Michelle Obama stuns in aubergine at State of the Union

U.S. President Obama delivers his first State of the Union address on Capitol Hill in Washington

Since we are a celebrity gossip site, with an interest in all things celebrity-film-television-and-fashion related, we will not be covering the politics of Pres. Obama’s State of the Union address, which was last night. If you’d like to read the text of Obama’s speech, HuffPo has a decent transcript. Now…what I do care about, in the context of this site, is what First Lady Michelle Obama wore. It wasn’t even a year ago that Michelle Obama’s consistent sleeveless fashions (even at her husband’s address to a joint session of Congress) were snottily dismissed by fashion critics, and even compared to Madonna’s Gristle.

For Obama’s first State of the Union, Michelle did forgo the sleeveless look, her signature. Instead, Michelle donned a stunning outfit by Isaac Mizrahi in a lovely shade of aubergine/plum. Although we don’t have photos of the jacket, let me just say that the whole combination of long jacket, feminine, knee-length skirt and long-sleeved, crew-necked blouse was very, very beautiful. While sitting through the speech, Michelle didn’t wear the jacket though, opting for just the skirt and blouse, which was still a great outfit. Michelle also kept her signature pearls on, and showed off her cute bobbed haircut, which I think makes her look a lot younger.

P.S. This is slightly political, but mostly it’s just hilarious. Hardball’s Chris Matthews made a hilarious flub after Obama’s speech that is officially the clip of the week. Chris declared mightily: “I forgot he was black tonight for an hour.” Chris Matthews, jackass.

    She really did look beautiful.

  2. Wow says:

Yes, the dress was great but not “stunning” IMO. She looked nice and it wad an appropriate look for the occasion.

  3. bite me says:

her face reminds me of a gremlin

  4. Chicken Tetrazzini says:

I just don’t see how she’s supposed to be this fashion plate. I will say that she does a fantastic job of concealing her weird body shape, but all that high-waistedness makes her already short torso look even shorter. And I am not being a b*tch because I have the same problem of having a short torso and relatively long legs (and I’m only 5’2), which is why I don’t wear high-waisted stuff. If she fixed that, she’d look a lot better IMO. And don’t wear purple, it makes her look like Grimace, which is probably not a good thing.

  5. snowball says:

She looked lovely – I love that color on her and I really like her hair now.

I haven’t always liked some of the stuff she wears, especially when she cinches it all in with that shiny black belt, but every so often she surprises me with something really pretty.

Chicken Tetrazzini, one of us has an off monitor. Mine shows the dress as a reddish purple, not the grape purple that Grimace is (like the woman standing next to her).

  6. ! says:

Right ChickenTetrazzini, you’re not a bitch, comparing Michelle to Grimace. Not at all!

  7. mel says:

I think this is the best look for her.

  8. Praise St. Angie! says:

    like her outfit, too.

pretty, feminine, yet not too matronly. like her hair too…it’s SO shiny, wonder what products she uses.

    and MAN she’s tall!

  9. grisgris says:

I thought she was absolutely pitch perfect. Hair, make-up, clothes – she looked beautiful.

  10. lucy2 says:

I like it, the color is pretty. I’m seeing more red than purple too. I’ve loved a lot of stuff she’s worn, but not liked some others.

Oh Chris Matthews…seriously? That’s almost as embarrassing as keep %@#$ing that chicken!

  11. JohnnieR says:

Meh, she looked okay – nothing spectacular. The dress is kind of drab in my opinion, and I don’t dig the ‘old lady’ pearls, but the colour did suit her. Forgive me for my Canadian spelling of ‘color’ Heheheheh.

As for Chris Matthew’s comment re Obama, I’m afraid this ‘gaffe/flub’ is a frightening display of how much archaic racism still pervades in the U.S. (and here in Canada, for that matter) – a lot of it lies just below the surface. That said, I must say that it seems to be a worse situation south of the border. What a truly horrible thing to say.

  12. atticus says:

She looks lovely and appropriate in these pictures. Very Jackie Kennedy’esque. I don’t think it’s stunning but it’s lovely.

Her posture is really bad though. Her shoulders turn in and she’s slouching. This is how I look from bending over my computer keyboard all day long and I hate it.

I wasn’t a big fan of Michelle Obama in the early stages of the campaign – she came off as smug and elite and kind of bitchy. But I warmed to her towards the end of the campaign and even more so since she’s become First Lady. I think she works the role really well. I was so annoyed when the “critics” were ripping her for going sleeveless (now talk about a truly stunning picture, her official White House portrait is really gorgeous) and especially for coming off Air Force One in shorts and a t-shirt (it was summer, for the love of all that’s holy!).

  13. andrea says:

    she kicks so much ass

  14. ohcutemissa says:

    Really lovely.

  15. Chicken Tetrazzini says:

    !-

I didn’t say I WASN’T a b*tch (because I pretty much am and am OK with that), but that I wasn’t BEING one. Or maybe I was…it’s so hard to tell nowadays. I thought I was quite diplomatic since I am not a fan of her or her husband. LOL guess I was wrong…no career in politics for me!

  16. hatsumomo says:

I thought it was really pretty! Or to quote my man last night when warching the address, ‘Man, Mrs. Obama is SMOKING HOT!’

  17. TaylorB says:

She looks very nice, the dress is pretty and it seems very appropriate for the event. But she needs to stop slouching her shoulders. I notice lots of my tall (5ft10 and up) female friends do that as well, especially if they are taller or as tall as their S.O.

  18. busbus says:

Michelle Obama looked gorgeous. The outfit is a great look for her. Wish we could have seen the complete outfit with the jacket.

I do enjoy seeing Michelle Obama in her signature sleeveless dresses which are quite becoming to her. For the most part, I do like her wide belts with some of her outfits. Her cardigans are fabulous. All in all, I think that Michelle Obama’s eclectic choice of clothing, down to her shoes, complements who she is and her role as FLOTUS.

Keep on looking good, Michelle Obama … clothing choices, shoes, belts, jewelry and hairstyles!

  19. Just a Poster says:

I thought she looked pretty. This is a softer look for her. I have noticed that when she has a real smile, she looks softer, otherwise she looks like a total hard ass.

Why do they keep trying to shove her into some Jackie O mold I will never understand. She is clearly her own person with her own taste and why can’t they just let that be?

I am not a fan of most of the things she wears, and I may not be the most fashionable hippest person, but come on, let her be her own person. (directed to the “fashion world” and not anyone here)

  20. Sudini says:

I noticed her right away and thought how striking she looked. She just understands “tasteful and sophisticated” so well. I noticed that some people aren’t as familiar with the two concepts and therefore don’t recognize them, lol. But she just gets it. Love her.

  21. *Lee* says:

I really , really like this. It’s all put together so well, simple, clean, in a flattering color. The hair is shiny her skin is glowing, and I love pearls with almost anything. She looks great.

  22. okrafiddle says:

Who gives a F*%$ what she was wearing?
Especially that it’s a high end designer!
Her husband is killing the already dead economy and I’m one paycheck away from being homeless and you think she looks pretty in purple?
    What the F EVER!

  23. I didn’t see the jacket, but maybe it would have made the outfit better. I thought it made her look bottom heavy which she is not. Also, poor posture.

However, the color was gorgeous & her hair did look great.

  24. Sigh. says:

    okrafiddle — It’s a CELEBRITY GOSSIP WEBSITE.
Not a political or financial forum – unless it is related to CELEBRITY GOSSIP. Embrace it.
And that high-end designer has a TARGET line.

She has got some BEAUTIFUL hair on her head.
I flip-flop on her fashion choices for the most part, but this looks nice. She looks very well pulled-together. I didn’t see it with the jacket, so…

About Chris Matthews — He probably thought that was a “compliment.” I could say I am surprised, but sadly, I’m not. We have a longer way to go on race than we think.

  25. Mairead says:

Her hair is gorgeous. And the outfit is very tasteful and appropriate.

I do want, quite badly, to pull her shoulders back though

  26. Linda says:

    Oh, that dress was beautiful!!

  27. Sela says:

hey okra fiddle – fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi isn’t necessarily a high end designer. He had a line at Target as well ….
Obama is working his ASS off to straighten out the unfathomable MESS the former imbecile president created. It isn’t as simple as playing Monopoly. He can’t just say “oh here are some jobs” and hand them over, he is trying to create a whole new environment for jobs and job sustainability while facing incredible obstacles. He is trying to create an environment that will ultimately help the finances of the average citizen instead of lining the pockets of the exploitive, wealthy. This change from the former mode of operation will take time!!! It is complex !!!! Not an easy job Okra. Why don’t you do something useful instead of wasting your time on this gossip blog if you are so worried about your paycheck. Our President does not stop working to help YOU and me.

  28. annie says:

Sela, why does,he cut taxes for small business? That would be a damn good place to start to create the right “environment” Big government has to get the hell out of the way! Yep, Bush made a mess and Obama’s making an even bigger one in a much shorther span of time!

  29. tinat says:

Ok, all you complaining about her posture….ah, isn’t she up in a balcony looking down on the people below? Might this be a reason for her body posture?

I thought, as usual, she looked great. But it wasn’t the dress, it’s the confidence she brings to anything she wears. Love or hate the outfit, she always owns it!

  30. Goosie says:

I really really like that dress! She looked great.

Mostly, I was coveting Nancy Pelosi’s pearls!

  31. lucy2 says:

I wonder if her posture is do to her being tall. I had a growth spurt when I was taller than most classmates for a bit and I know I would slouch a little.

  32. amanda says:

    okrafiddle-
If you are one paycheck away from being homeless- truly- then what a miracle that you still have internet access! And the idle time in your day to be commenting on a celebrity gossip website. I certainly hope you aren’t exaggerating your future homeless status- there are many in this country facing TRUE homelessness.

  33. No BO for Me says:

Why was my comment removed? Because I didn’t fall down at MO’s feet?

And Sela; BO’s had a full YEAR to get started on turning things around. The grace period to blame Bush is long over. What other new president was allowed to keep blaming the former administration for their lack of being able to handle the job? NONE. I’m not a Bush, Palin or McCain fan, I’m a fan of the US and it’s very quickly going to pot with this “leader” at the helm.

  34. atticus says:

@just a poster – not trying to put her in any mold, Jackie set the standard and so just mentioned it as a comparison. meant it as a compliment, not trying to compartmentalize her. (though you are right, you do hear the comparison all the time)

@tinat – she seems slouchy in most pictures but ITA that her confidence makes her outfit always spot on

  35. ItsComeToThis says:

Philosophical question of the day. I am genuinely interested in knowing. By no means am I attempting to be inflammatory.

But riddle me this. Can a caucasian who has been trained by her culture, society, media and family to attribute long lean limbs, almost flat tush and good size boobs to be beautiful ever really see the beauty in someone not built like the prior mentioned?

I am asking because here I see this woman with just the right sized breasts, slim torso, toned arms, long lower legs, sufficiently curved and toned upper thighs, with a nice sized butt; and still the comments are “bottom heavy, short torso etc.

    Seriously, I mean seriously!

Mrs. O, ten points for hair, makeup and dress. STUN-NING. Articulate, humble, brilliant and beautiful woman. I do not know on what occasion you came across as smug and elitist (really amazed at that one), but it must have been on a day that you did not dress yourself and the kids in Target and J. Crew. It must have been on a day that your hand was not clasped in its signature respectful manner against the front of your skirts. It must have been on the day that you hid your hard-working mother in the closet, for shame that the public would see your middle class beginnings. No wait, it must have been on the day that you waved your ivy league creds in front of us. Yep, that’s it.

Mrs. O, if smug and elitist behaves like you, then sign me up for a course, I want to be you when I grow up.

  36. ItsComeToThis says:

Plus, if you are bitchy Mrs. O, I identify with your struggle. I know how hard it is to be a female black attorney in this country. Makes law school seem like a walk in the park.

Give them hell Mrs.O, give them hell.

  37. pd says:

    I think she looks great.

  38. No BO for Me says:

ItsComeToTi – here’s a napkin, wipe your chin.

  39. Praise St. Angie! says:

“BO’s had a full YEAR to get started on turning things around.”

wow, ONE full year after 8 years of the previous admin’s F ups? give BO 8 years and see what he does, OK? if the country is still F-ed up then, you might actually have a point.

“What other new president was allowed to keep blaming the former administration for their lack of being able to handle the job? NONE.”

actually, I heard republicans blaming Clinton for literally years after he left office.

  40. Sela says:

Annie – I am assuming your question was why “doesn’t” he cut taxes for small business?
I am not an expert on how to ultimately fix the economy and stimulate jobs. As I stated, it is COMPLEX and far beyond what you or I can comprehend, and simply cutting taxes may not be the only thing that needs to occur (ie. lowering health insurance provisional costs of small businesses for employees). At any rate, I found the following from a Google search and if anything, it underscores the need for realizing what has been done by Obama and how hard he is working (which was my point).
    http://www.tellingthoughts.com/asides/obamas-90-accomplishments-email-list

  41. No BO for Me says:

HA – this country will be long gone if Barack Obama is elected for a second term. If you can tell me one thing, ONE good thing this man has done, I might concede something to you but everything’s all about him, even though he said it’s not, the 132 times he said it was in a recent speech contradicts that. And proof that the repubs blamed Clinton for years, please.

  42. Sela says:

    No BO for Me:
    WHAT?
Please rephrase your last post. I’m not sure what point you were trying to get across … “everything’s all about him …. etc” ?

  43. Praise St. Angie! says:

oh, I don’t know, actually setting a fixed timetable for our troops to exit Iraq is pretty good.

abolishing “enhanced interrogation techniques” (TORTURE) is pretty good too.

as for the republicans blaming Clinton, I must assume that you’ve been living under a rock for the past several years if you haven’t heard that.

however, if you really want some examples, just google “bush blaming clinton” and see what you find.

(economy, North Korea’s nukes, 9/11, etc)

And Sela, thanks for that link.

  44. EMV says:

I will not talk about politics, promise…I thought she looked nice for the occasion, however I think the dress would have been better if it had been long sleeve not 3/4 sleeve. The color was pretty. I am kinda tired of the phemon of Michelle Obama, b/c Laura Bush had some pretty nice outfits that no one spoke of.

  45. Sudini says:

@NoBO for Me: you’re an internet troll, and a moron to boot (pardon the redundancy). Stop embarrassing yourself and go take your medication.

  46. Praise St. Angie! says:

“Laura Bush had some pretty nice outfits that no one spoke of.”

don’t know if that’s entirely true…I remember the press talking about Laura Bush’s dresses here and there. and you’re right, she was a smart (and elegant) dresser.

I think there’s so much talk about what MO wears because (like it or not) this WAS a ground-breaking election, and therefore there’s always going to be more attention paid to them as the first couple.

  47. No BO for Me says:

Fine – no more from me on this. I hope when all of the BO worshippers take off their rose-colored glasses, they still like the view in front of them.

  48. Sela says:

    @Praise St. Angie

    You’re welcome.

  49. annie says:

Telling thoughts? It sounds like he has alot of “intentions”. Intentions are’nt accomplishments, hell, I’ve got all kinds of intentions. As for some of the others, I noticed alot had to do with federal spending, my point exactly, we don’t need more we need less of this. He has increased spending more in one year than Bush did in eight years, and they’re BOTH WRONG for doing so. I did’nt vote for Bush either time, because I’m not a neocon. He stated in his State of the Union speech he would give a longer time for people to pay them back, and after 20 years they would not need to, so I cause it would’nt be a loan,it would be a hand out. He’s an ideologue who’s ignoring the American people. And you know what? It really is’nt that complex, all’s you need is common sense which he does’nt have. I don’t care if he went to Ivy league schools, he does’nt have any common sense.

  50. annie says:

Ooops, I was talking about student loans above.

  51. Goosie says:

I don’t think I ever took notice of what Laura Bush wore, except for @ the convention when she was next to Cindy McCain who was dressed in couture. Laura looked kinda dowdy, which pained me, because I actually like her!

  52. okrafiddle says:

You guys are right. Got me there.
I was waiting on my gf to get out of the shower so I could shower and go to work and saw this and it just pissed me off.
Gossip site yes. Political site no.
    My bad

  53. lucy2 says:

Thanks for the link, Sela, it was interesting. I think it’s a very complex and difficult situation, and somethings are working and some aren’t, unfortunately as to be expected. I think most of his general ideas are fairly good though, and certainly hope things improve soon.

I never noticed much about Laura’s fashion either, other than hearing about her inauguration gown and stuff. I think she always dressed well, but in a more old fashioned (not sure that’s the right word) way. Plus MO is a bit younger and has a lot more media attention than Laura ever did, and a lot of her fashion choices are fairly accessible and affordable to most people.

  54. Ron says:

    Ok a couple of things:

    1. Michelle needs to drop her waistline a bit. She looks great in shift dresses etc, but this cuts her at a weird spot.

2.The difference between Michelle and Laura, is Michelle has style. IMHO style is something that you have or you don’t, no big deal. Laura always wore a basic nice suit and that was pretty much it. I never thought she looked bad, but there was no real style there much like Hillary and Barbara Bush. The last first lady with style prior to Michelle was Nancy Reagan.

3.Why do people expect Obama to be magic? He inherits the worst economy since the depression yet we’re supposed to be back to healthy growth in 12 months? I’m not a huge Obama fan, but give the guy a break here. Also if you haven’t noticed, the republicans will not agree with anything he puts forward. He could put forward a bill to offer 100,000 in tax breaks to every family on earth and it would be a bad idea. An Nancy Pelosi trying to shove things through congress…yuck. I have all but given up on watching politics anymore. It’s like watching petualant children on the playground. It seems that civil discourse and comprimise no longer exist. And both sides of politics are polarized extremists now.

  55. Sincerity says:

Mrs. Obama is a very classy lady and she wears the title of “First Lady” very well.

Considering the enormous weight of her duties and the constant pummeling her husband is exposed to, she has performed well beyond expectations during her husband’s first year in office. May GOD continue to cover her and her family which extends to each and every American citizen! The Obamas simply rock!!!

  56. JohnnieR says:

Look, ladies, lay off the political talk. If there’s one area where dames should NOT dwell in, it’s a MAN’S world of political intrigue and opinion. Stick to the fashion, and leave the country to the MEN to run.

    Heheheheh……just kidding!

  57. meme says:

    STAND UP STRAIGHT WOMAN

  58. Jules says:

This is not a good outfit. This looks like a grown up version of the dress a 5 year old would wear at Christmas. And no matter how many times people try to say she is stunning, you are really not fooling most people with eyeballs of their own. Not everyone can or has to be beautiful.

  59. Jules says:

And I might add..no one ever tried to pretend Laura Bush or Hillary Clinton were stunning. Why do we have to pretend with Michelle?

  60. Rory says:

I think Michelle looks stunning.Becoming the 1st lady does not mean you have to stand up straight. Michelle is one of the few 1st ladies to be extremely smart and intelligent and a Guru in her field and all some of you talk about is her outward attractiveness. Some of you should be inspired to get an education. Some of you are taking this very personal. Another thing is maybe her body lang shows how worried she is for the country and for her husband. She has to sit there and hope that everyone understands what her husband wants to achieve without trying to defend him. Did you see the military seating down and not clapping when Obama made the speech about Gays in the Military.

For those who have lost their job or might be out of a job soon. I hope God helps you to secure a position as soon as possible. This problem is not only in the States, its in UK,Germany and Canada. The whole world is effected by the Recession. Maybe if we stop the several wars we will have some extra money to support the unemployed and get them new jobs.

  61. meme says:

    God runs an employment agency?

  62. filthycute says:

    Stunned? Really?

    No.

  63. Jojo says:

No BO for me — YOU are what’s wrong with this country, NOT our president. Do us all a favor and go back and read what all the economic journals said about how long it would take to turn around the economy that BUSH ran into the ground for 8 years! Anyone who thinks our economy is going to be turned around in a year is a FREAKIN’ IDIOT.

  64. viper says:

What a load of crap. Nobody cares what she wears, she’s not freakin princess diana. She no way a looker and in no position to try and pull it off. The so called agent of change has done nothing of the sort. Bloody hands that he hides and golden words that are spewed from a venom filled mouth. A balless pawn who still answers to the white man. But hey lets pose in all the magazine with our smiles and pretend the world is as great as our lives are IN THE WHITE HOUSE. The man didn’t change anything nor is he a change bringer, oh but he’s blackISH so we’ll be less critical by default. Give him a chance right? Its only been a year, then it’ll be two then three so FTShitty excuse. BUSH had 9-11 in his first year and while he had this own agenda and used it as a means to an end he certainly changed things in the span of a year. So Obama has no excuse at all.

  65. california angel says:

I will be interested to see what she plans on wearing for the apocalypse. Seriously though; if this isn’t an important time to be integrating an active interest in politics into our daily lives, then I’m in the wrong country. Especially considering the unraveling of society, the death of the economy/dollar and the disregard of human rights as we know them. Per the basis of our constitution, it’s our responsibility as citizens to not sit idly by whilst our government royally screws us over.

  66. Tru says:

she looks great, NO ONE can down her about this simple elegant outfit.

    she catches sooo much flack.
she is who she is a very highly educated woman–not born to be a fashion plate.

no comment on what that idiot said, I go pass his news stations so fast, its a waste of my time.

  67. fizXgirl314 says:

    damn it… as I was saying…

WHO FREAKIN CARES?!?! some jackass made a dress for her and she slipped her arms through it… I don’t get the fascination with what people wear… not on political figures… the woman has a PhD and we’re worried about her fucking dress??!?! wow PRIORITIES PEOPLE…

  68. Aspie says:

    BEAUTIFUL….

  71. Kathie says:

Whatever your politics and however much you may agree/disagree with Obama’s policies this woman is our First Lady! I thought she looked lovely albeit her posture could use improvement. I thought her hair looked beautiful as well. Pray do tell me why people don’t think they can complement someone without comparing them to others or slamming someone else? Laura Bush had a sweet somewhat Matronly style but she always looked pretty. As for Chris Matthews, haven’t had anything for him since he savaged Hilary Clinton. It does remind me of the time I was talking to a friend and really wanted her to know that I couldn’t set a value on our friendship and wound up calling her valueless..HAHAHA thank God she understood my intentions…we still laugh about that one. Much as I do not wish to defend CM he probably meant Obama transcended skin color and was just our President whatever color. People use racist quite liberally these days and I hope it stops before it loses its power to point out really racist behavior and speech.

  72. Kathie says:

Really Rory? How about hmmm Eleanor Roosevelt (humanist statesman, UN delegate,) Hilary Clinton (attorney US Senator), Lou Hoover (degree in Engineering from Stanford) Abagail Adams (writer, contributor to the Declaration of Independance) I could go on for about another 6 paragraphs but you see where I am going here.

  73. yae says:

She looks like she’s constipated….scared to move and stiff as a board.

She came out swinging like a strong woman with a PhD and now she’s a barbie doll to dress up.

    Ok.

  74. Eileen Yover says:

No BO: It truly makes me sad to read comments from American citizens like you. Its almost like you WANT the US to fail so your vote will be proven right. Your statements are the most closeminded thing I’ve read in a looooong time. I registered as a Dem., but I don’t believe in Political Parties what so ever. I vote for who I believe in, not for a red or blue dominancy. Its governement officials like you who make sure any President in office hasn’t a chance because the other Party will always do everything they can to make their 4 years are bad.

I thought MO looked STUNNING as always-very Jackie-O!

  75. Eileen Yover says:

Holy. Crap. Scratch that. VIPER’S comments are the most close-minded I’ve seen in a loooooong time. But don’t worry No BO…you are a close second.
Hey Viper, so because Ombama hasn’t been faced with a catastrphe 9/11 style he’s no good? Are you KIDDING me? You scare me.

  76. Feebee says:

I’m unsure about the dress but she looks as put together as she usually does.

And because I can’t help myself…. Yes it’s been a year of Mr Obama in office and maybe we can’t point to some huge success but the mess the country’s in cannot be fixed by the President alone. 40 (soon to be 41) Senators are sitting on their hands over anything the President wants to accomplish for no reason except partisanship (except they moan about bi-partisanship they refuse to take part in unless they get their way). The red party keep saying “jobs jobs jobs” like if Obama worked 24/7 on that they would materialise like magic. He’s a new type of president, he can work on several issues at a time.

Thats what I’ve always said. She is in no way stunning no matter what she wears. When I think stunning I think Queen Rania, princess Diana, hell even the queen herself was stunning during her younger years.

  81. kermit says:

Although stunning may describe someone being very attractive, it can also mean someone, particularly a woman, who commands attention and has presence. Beauty is rather subjective, I personally don’t see the big deal with Gisele Bunchen but she’s considered to be exceptionally “beautiful” by many. I find Michelle “attractive”. Michelle is also different in stills than in motion, I feel in motion she truly radiates a certain “something” that borders on exquisite.

  82. UrbanRube says:

She looked elegant, her hair was pretty, and the color and style of the dress were gorgeous.

  83. Jules says:

Come on people, get real. She is a very average looking woman. Stop trying to make her beautiful because you sound like looney kool-aid drinkers. She is fine. She is normal looking. There is nothing wrong with how she looks. She is, however, no great beauty so just stop it.

  84. TaylorB says:

    Jules,

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. While you may find her average to others she may be stunning for reasons other than her husbands politics or hers.

  85. Jules says:

So, TaylorB, you are saying that if she was a total unknown, people would be stopping on the streets to stare at her because she is so beautiful? Not in a million years. But you are certainly allowed your own thoughts. Gwyneth Paltrow is another one that bothers me. Hollywood can try to sell her beauty all they want..I’m not buying it. She is a plain, plain, plain looking girl.

  86. me says:

for those wondering about her hair its a wig

  87. TaylorB says:

    Jules,

You must admit as first ladies go she is certainly a step up from the last several, no offense intended to Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton, Barbara Bush or Nancy Reagan, and I am not saying that because I am ‘drinking the KoolAid’… which I have to say is the most worn out saying in the current political lexicon, I don’t mean that as a slam against you it is just one of those sayings that needs to go away sort of like Bart Simpsons ‘don’t have a cow man’ or ‘where’s the beef’.

  88. The Bobster says:

Rue Paul would look better in that outfit.

  89. sneezy says:

Michelle Obama is considered beautiful and fashionable because people are obsessed with proving that they like and voted for Obama.

I like him, but I am not bound and determined to prove it to anyone.

We only pay attention to the appearance of first ladies, and not the role they necessarily play in politics. Its annoying.

  90. Anna says:

The dress was appropriate but far from beautiful. She slouches too. I don’t understand the fuss. She is just average, plain and simple. Average, nothing special.

  91. Michelle Obama looks very nice in that outfit. Thanks for the pictures.
