Sandra Bullock sent Meryl Streep liquor, saying “toast to white trash”

Predictably, the Oscar race for Best Actress is likely going to come down to Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock. They are the two women who have picked up all of the awards thus far – even tying at the Critics Choice Awards, where they first had a big public play-fight, then kissed and made up on the stage. I’ll admit that I don’t know the true feelings Sandra and Meryl have for or about each other, but I’ll admit that their play-fighting is cracking me up. I get the impression that they really do like each other, and neither would be hurt, offended or angry if the other won the Oscar. Thankfully, Sandra has a big mouth, and she told Us Weekly about the war of attrition she and Meryl are waging:

Expect the playful competition between Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep to heat up now that the two both nabbed Best Actress Oscar nods.

They’ve been facing off at nearly every awards show and even smooched when they tied for best actress at the Critics’ Choice Awards last month.

“With Meryl, when this whole thing started, I left her a voice mail going, ‘You’ve got to watch your back. I’m gonna cut you. I’m gonna take you down,'” Bullock tells the Associated Press. “And then she sent me dead orchids and told me to die, so I sent her a case of liquor and told her to toast to white trash.”

Kidding aside, Bullock, 45, said she has no ill will against the other nominees. (She is up against Julie & Julia’s Streep; An Education’s Carey Mulligan; The Last Station’s Helen Mirren and Precious’ Gabourey Sidibe.)

“You have to enjoy being with these women that you admire or love or like or have had friendships with or are just getting to know because you’ve got to take care of each other,” Bullock told the AP.

“No one, at least the people that I’ve met, no one cares about the end result or the statue,” she added. “It’s being able to sit in close proximity with these ladies … and we have to go through this whole rigamarole and we just all look at each other and we get to know each other and you laugh at the absurdity of it all and how they pit women up against each other.”

How did she feel about also being nominated as worst actress of the year for All About Steve from the Golden Raspberry Foundation, host of the annual Razzies. She is honored.

“If I win, I am so showing up,” she told USA Today. “I have to enjoy that as much as getting an Oscar nomination. It is the great balance in our business.”

Okay, the part about “I sent her a case of liquor and told her to toast to white trash” is hilarious. I’ve never heard that before, and I’m totally going to steal it. I love, love, love that Meryl and Sandra are having fun with their “war” and I also love that Sandra doesn’t take herself so seriously that she’s offended by the Razzie nomination. To be fair to Sandra, I don’t think it’s her year at the Razzies. That bitch belongs to Megan Fox.

In other Bullock-related news, she told People Magazine that she found out she had been nominated for her first Oscar when her publicist called and woke her up. Do I believe this? Not really. I can’t imagine being nominated for an Oscar, but if I knew there was a possibility, you know my ass would be getting up and watching the program.

Jesus, Meryl Streep has a big ass…

  2. Rosalee says:

Their mock war is hilarious and endearing, I love them both. Sandra Bollock was always under-rated. Watch Practical Magic with Bollock and Nicole Kidman – when Bollock is looking for the cricket under the floorboards, her desperation is heartbreaking.

  3. JLM says:

I think it’s cute too…and it’s nice to see 2 women actually having some fun, playful competition instead of being all catty and nasty.

  4. Dorothy says:

Is it weird that the picture of them kissing is making me hot?

  5. lucy2 says:

It’s cute and funny, I like them both so much. Glad neither takes it too seriously.
I have to think that SOME people care about the statue though. Just a few.

  6. beadlady says:

@Dolkite – You read that whole article and that’s what you came away with?

  7. Dolkite says:

bead – I’m very sorry…I forgot that on Celebitchy, nobody makes rude comments about a celebrity’s appearance. 🙂

  8. meme says:

i thought it was funny Dolkite. she does have a big ass. their phony war is funny too. but sandra bullock better not win – she doesn’t even deserve the nom.

  9. Dolkite says:

meme – Yeah, I wasn’t impressed with “The Blind Side”…they made the black kid seem like he was retarded and that annoying little boy (whom the audience loved) got on my nerves, too. I only saw it because my mom wanted to, so I got a little enjoyment out of it because it made her happy.

Anyway, my comment was meant to be humorous…the idea of dismissing a great actress like Streep as nothing more than some broad with a big ass.

  10. Kate says:

I have nothing bad to say about either of these women. I guess my problem is that Sandra Bullock was nominated for Blind Side and might actually win (and that Blind Side was nominated for best picture — seriously, did any of you see it? It is an entertaining little movie (the book is much better) but oscar worthy?????)

  11. Obvious says:

I loved the Blind Side, one of the better movies to come out recently especially compared to all the garbage that relies on CGI. Blind Side shattered records for movies helmed by women. That is why it is up for an Oscar, because it shattered records worldwide, it deserves it. And Sandy was amazing in it.

I will say though I hope Meryl wins, I love her and no matter what a movie asks her to do she brings it. All of it. And she kicks it’s ass.

Besides dead orchids make me giggle.

  12. Dolkite says:

Obvious – You’re partially right. It’s nominated because it made a lot of money and it featured a beloved actress playing a somewhat serious role.

  13. Beth says:

I like Sandra but she’s getting annoying with her speeches and comments.

  14. Cyrano De Bergerac says:

This fake war is actually funny. If only I were a fly on a wall. 😀

But seriously, I hope none of them win the actual award. Gabby Sidibe for the win.

  15. archiepelago says:

Gabourey deserves this win more than anyone – she put her heart and soul into that role and that movie still affects me months later. Meryl was great as Julia and as a true life character study, deserves the nod but (and as a huge Meryl fan it pains me to say this) she doesn’t deserve to win. IMO, while Sandra was entertaining and good in the part, that role doesn’t deserve an Oscar nom. The Blind Side is a good movie but over rated in Oscar standards – it felt like a Lifetime Original movie to me.

Gabourey deserves it and I hope she doesn’t get robbed.

  16. Dolkite says:

I doubt Gabourey will get it…they’ll figure she’s a newcomer and will have plenty more chances in the future. However, if she were nominated for Best Supporting Actress, it would be a different story…that award always goes to a dark horse pick. I think Mo’Nique has a good shot.

  17. juiceinla says:

OMG I love these two, and think their silliness is infectious.

  18. shorty30 says:

There is absolutely no way I believe this Gabourey girl should get it. Yes, she may have poured her little heart and soul into it, but come on! Meryl and Sandy are FAR more deserving. It’s just the generational changing I suppose that even has the Gabourey movie recognized.

  19. lolo says:

love it love it love it

  20. Ruffian9 says:

Christ, if Julia can win for Erin Brockovich then Sandy can win for Blind Side.

    Dolkite (#12) – Precisely.

  21. Seer says:

Meryl Streep has to be one of the best actresses of all time. What an amazingly talented woman. It’s a joy to watch her, because she looks so convincing in every role she plays. She was amazing in Out of Africa. I think both of these ladies come accross as witty, talented, smart, and down-to-earth. I like them alot.

  22. buzzaroo says:

Kaiser, you sound like you are trying to be Michael K – your not.

  23. CB Rawks says:

Buzzaroo, what does bitter snide resentment taste like?
Seems like it should taste like baby poo.

  24. archiepelago says:

What makes Meryl and Sandra more deserving? They are all actresses who said words and who emoted. Gabourey took on an incredibly difficult role that had they been physically right for it, I am sure plenty of A List actresses would have died for the opportunity to play. It has Oscar written all over and she nailed it. Just because she is a newcomer doesn’t take away the fact that she gave an incredible performance and just because it’s Sandy and Meryl doesn’t negate that.
