It's about being at a different place in your lives; you end up with different goals and different ideas of what is fun. Sitting around the house because the baby is sleeping is just not that much fun and not that interesting unless it's your kid. Single and having fun wants to go to a club; parent wants to rent a movie and stay in. Growing apart is perfectly natural. Lots of those friendships re-establish themselves once the single person has their kids and all of a sudden they have everything in common again.
