Jane Fonda admits to new round of plastic surgery

janefondabeforeafter
Actress Jane Fonda, 72, most likely had a face lift prior to her recent round of plastic surgery. Her neck was tight and her face looked very fresh and young, although she did have lines around her eyes. I would guess that she had surgery a few years ago and let it settle without getting excessive botox or fillers that would give her a waxy look. Jane had even more work done recently. She blogged that she had surgery to remove the bags under her eyes and have her chin lifted. It’s hard to tell how much different she looks as the photos she’s posting are small, but from what I’ve seen she doesn’t look like herself. Good for her for admitting it, though, and for saying that it wasn’t the first time. I’m guessing that the 2000 procedure she mentions was either her first or second face lift.

Bob Evans complimented me on my new, short haircut and I said, “Thanks. I just had some ‘work’ done on my chin and neck and had the bags taken away from under my eyes so I decided it would be good to get a new hair cut so people will think it’s my new hair.” He thought that was so funny he actually toasted me for doing what he said he’d never heard anyone do before: admit they’d had work done. I was planning on blogging about it anyway so who cares? I’m writing a book about aging so I couldn’t very well NOT talk about it. It’s been 2 weeks. I was in front of the camera all day yesterday and was photographed at Eve Ensler’s luncheon 9 days after the procedure so, obviously, it went well. I swore in 2000 I’d never have anything done again but this year I got tired of not looking like how I feel and I wanted a more refined chin line like I used to have so I changed my mind. I’m still a little swollen but not much and what pleases me is that I won’t looked pulled or weird…or tired all the time. And my crows feet are still alive and well. I wish I’d been brave enough to not do anything but, instead, I chose to be a somewhat more glamorous grandma.

It’s kind of refreshing to hear a celebrity admit to getting work done without using it for PR like Heidi Montag. Fonda was a Loreal representative, though, so how is this going to jibe with the cosmetics giant? She advertises for anti-aging cream and surely they don’t want her admitting to going under the knife. I checked Loreal’s website and Fonda isn’t shown. She had a contract in 2006, but might not be working for them at this point.

I really think she looked better before, but again these photos are far away and maybe her face is still swollen. I’ve said this before, but I’m all for face lifts as long as you keep the procedures to a minimum and don’t end up looking like a puppet face. Just let it settle and then resist the urge to get maintenance work done. That never ends well.

In 2006, Fonda vowed off additional plastic surgery, saying “I’m not going to do it, somebody’s got to give a face to getting old.” It just won’t be her I guess.

I think she looks great-she hasnt been pulled as tight as a drum and good for her for admitting it…
shes very youthful looking and THAT comes from inside…

  2. Maritza says:

I like her haircut and it looks like she whitened her teeth as well.

  3. Me says:

I really like her. It’s refreshing when people are honest in Hollywood.

2006, Fonda on plastic surgery: “I’m not going to do it, somebody’s got to give a face to getting old.”

    2010:
“I wish I’d been brave enough to not do anything but, instead, I chose to be a somewhat more glamorous grandma.”

    Nice spin, grandma.

Insert “vain and insecure” instead of “glamorous” and you’re at least being honest with your grandchildren and your fans.

  5. Judy says:

Haircut is really cute…she looks great!

  6. canadianchick says:

I liked her better before, she now looks like John Fonda.

  7. Alarmjaguar says:

I don’t know, now she just looks sharp, as in her chin could hurt you. I like the before pic.

  8. B says:

Softfocus makes everyone look better. HD makes every flaw show in extreme detail. I see no difference between the two photos other than one is glaringly HD and the other is in softfocus.

  9. Beth says:

She looked better in the January picture. Jane looks odd in the after photo.

  10. ccoop says:

    She looks like Anne Murray.

  11. MymaJane says:

Her nose, cheeks, and upper lip area look really tight to me. I think her face looked better before, but the haircut is great!

  12. LolaBella says:

Yikes! She’s buying her ticket for the Joan Rivers express!

  13. EMV says:

She just looks fuffy to me.

  14. Ana says:

    I think she looks good.

  15. Lenore says:

Well, bless her heart for being honest about it, I guess.

It’s a real shame she can’t be the “face of getting old”. Who’s going to be the Amazon who fills that role? Is there anyone who HASN’T had surgery? Susan Sarandon? Isabella Rossellini? Betty White? Anyone?

  16. Cinderella says:

The look is an improvement. She looks healthy and not chiseled. The haircut is a bit Anne Murray-like, but it works for her.

  17. Scout says:

She looks great! The celebs should all use her surgeon! I also love the fact that she does not lie about what she is having done!

  18. Seer says:

I think her new look (at least in this photo) makes her look like Olympia Dukakis. For 72, she looks wonderful.

I can’t help but think that toying with plastic surgery is playing Russian roulette, because you never know how it’s going to turn out. Look at those celebrities who paid a fortune on plastic and ruined their faces.

A plastic surgeon once said that if a person has too much plastic surgery they end up looking odd or unusual.

There are some celebrities whose facelifts are so tight they can’t even smile anymore or even TALK properly -as if they are slurring their words. They can’t move their mouths! It’s uncomfortable to watch.

Jane Fonda, on the other hand, hasn’t gone that route yet, thank goodness!

once a lying, traitor communist dirtball always a lying traitor communist dirtball

  20. Anastasia says:

Oh Lord, BEEBEEC, get over it already, LOL. What the heck?

I think she looks great for her age, but I also wish these actresses would leave the scalpel alone. Just age, what’s the big whoop?

  21. Emily says:

BEEBEEC: actually, I think plastic surgery’s more a capitalist thing, not communist. Airbrushing someone out of a photo, now that’s communism.

I think she looks good. I much prefer the old hairstyle though, there’s something about this new one I very much dislike.

  22. remote says:

Is she lying now? Was she lying before?
Who knows? In any event, she is a liar… just don’t know when!

  23. JM says:

LMAO, she DOES look like Anne Murray now!

She was always beautiful until the first time she started messing with her face. She just didn’t need it and admitting it doesn’t make her any cooler – we could all tell whether or not she admitted it.

  24. Mary Stevens says:

She talked freely some years ago about her breast implants: no secret then, no secret now.

  25. Mike says:

I don’t get it….I always loved Jane even when the public called her a traitor..I separated her politics from her acting…and always thought she was great looking….I hate plastic surgery….she looked terrific before..now she looks like a smooth old person….old is as old does….look your age.

  26. She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named says:

@Emily: BEEBEEC: actually, I think plastic surgery’s more a capitalist thing, not communist. Airbrushing someone out of a photo, now that’s communism.”

    Ha, awesome!

  27. Fatima says:

I don’t mind celebrities having surgery to enhance their looks, but I prefer if they didn’t.
My favourites Susan Sarandon and Meryl Streep are still untouched by the surgeon’s knife, but Helen Mirren recently told a magazine that she is “sick of being a poster girl for ageing”, so she’s defintely going to get some work done on her face, neck and body.

  28. Kay says:

    She looks like Felicity Huffman…

  29. I don’t care if celebs have plastic surgery, but I do care when they lie about it. Kudos to Jane for being honest!

  30. Late Night Wigs says:

    Emily-

Then that makes her a hypocrite AND a traitor! If she thought communism was so great then she should have moved to Vietnam, renounced her US citizenship, and lived like the proletariat, instead of running her ignorant mouth while living in the lap of luxury. If you are going to preach, then you should practice what you’re preaching, but no, she’s just another chanpagne communist and therefore deserves my scorn and hatred.

Personally, if I ever see Hanoi Jane, I will spit on her because it was my deceased stepfather’s greatest wish to do so and I will do it for him. If I had MY way, scaphism would be the punishment. I hate elitist faux-revolutionaries and I hate this b*tch.

  31. hijole says:

Why would go through all that pain just to look like Carol Burnett?

  32. janine says:

she looked better before…….authentic and the face we loved for its sparkle, plastic surgery removes the “sparkle” because you’ve succumbed and youre sad about it…..

  33. aboonie says:

I saw her on Larry King and didn’t know who it was until they put her name on the screen. So, I went online to see if she had done something to her face.

  34. I saw her on Lerry King as well, she looked horrible.

  35. she still looks great. She is as good-looking as before.

  36. she looks very nice.

  37. MidgeWillson says:

I like Betty Whites look. Its time when your past 60 you look your age these remakes all look alike. Jane Fonda is gone now and we have another old women looking artificial. Won’t be long and there will be no classie looking lady to play the part of a mature lady. please women grown old in style, Jane don’t have such a negativite feeling about getting old. A lot of us don’t have money but there is so many places money can go beside the face and self.

  38. greg says:

It’s strange… when she was young, she was against plastic surgery ! with her ex-husband (CNN boss T.Turner) she had a first complete face-lift and now some work done as a refreshment !!! You look great but don’t continue …
