NCIS’s Mark Harmon is a silver fox

ncis_paleyfest_13_wenn2759626

It seems like the past few days, I’ve been consumed with imaginary boyfriends. Clive Owen, Jeremy Renner, Gerard Butler, all great choices for my boyfriends. But I forgot about my great love: Mark Harmon. I loved this man since I was a little girl. I fell for him when he and Marlee Matlin did that cop-and-lawyer show. And I’ve loved him ever since. So it’s a little surprising that this is the inaugural Mark Harmon post on Celebitchy, but I have to start somewhere. Now, I love NCIS. It’s one of my favorite shows. My sentimental, patriotic side loves the story lines about war, honor, sacrifice, and the brotherhood (and sisterhood) of the armed forces. My feminist side loves the well-drawn women of the show. And my CNN-watching side loves the story lines about terrorism and international intrigue. And, basically, I just love me some LeRoy Jethro Gibbs. Gibbs 4 Eva.

So this is Mark and the cast of NCIS (minus Pauley Perrette, there only in cutout) at the PaleyFest in LA. Considering NCIS is consistently one of the best-rated shows on television – often number one in the ratings for primetime, hour-long dramas – it’s surprising how little press the cast actually does. I can’t remember ever reading a Mark Harmon red carpet interview before today. Basically, none of this piece will mean anything to people who don’t watch or care about NCIS, so just be warned:

Now going on seven years strong, the cast of the hit CBS show NCIS talked to RadarOnline.com at PaleyFest in Los Angeles Monday night about the secret to their success, a possible girl power storyline, and their thoughts on NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles teaming up to kick some criminal butt.

“The hair!” joked Michael Weatherly of his Robert Pattinson-inspired locks, and his reason for the longevity of the show, which hit the CBS primetime lineup in 2003.

“His hair, maybe” agreed Mark Harmon, aka Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs who leads the NCIS team. “I think it’s usually been a talented group of people and I’m not just talking about people in front of the camera… I’ve been on a lot of sets and it’s a rare mix where professionals are asked to do their job and do it well and do what they do without looking over their shoulder and that’s what we do.”

“I think it’s the fact that it’s a prodecural, but there’s comedy in it,” said Cote de Pablo, who plays Mossad agent Ziva David. “I think there’s a little bit of everything in it for everyone that’s watching it, and I think there’s a dynamic between these characters that people really appreciate.”

But die-hard NCIS followers, don’t look for romance anytime soon between Special Agent DiNozzi (played by Weatherly) and Agent David — a seven-year storyline full of flirtatious tension fans have been able to cut with a knife — and what they tune in to watch each week in eager anticipation.

“I think the idea of unfulfilled sexual tension is good. I like to keep a little bit of mystery. But it is a blast working with Michael. You never know what’s going to come. He’s a ham,” said de Pablo.

A description that was definitely in full effect during PaleyFest, as Weatherly toted around a lifesized cardboard cut-out of co-star Pauley Perrette, who couldn’t make it to the panel discussion. But Weatherly’s co-stars took his loving gesture in stride.

“It’s Michael!” said Rocky Carroll, who plays the director of NCIS. “To say that his character is a stretch from [Agent] Tony, I’d be lying… we have a lot of fun on the show.”

Besides romance, other storylines that look more likely to make it on-screen include one that de Pablo has already pitched to executives and implores fans to get behind.

“We’ve pitched a lot of things and one of the big things we’d love to do is Pauley and I would love to do an Abby/Ziva undercover episode. That would be so much fun,” she said. “We’re crossing our fingers, we’re hoping it happens, we’ve pitched it to the writers a thousand times. They have it in the backburner and I hope they do it. Hopefully the fans will write in a say, ‘We want that episode!’”

Others hope for an NCIS showdown between the DC and Los Angeles agents (look out Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J!)

“It could happen,” Carroll said of a possible future episode. “What I’m hoping is that because I’m the director of NCIS on the show I’m hoping for another spinoff in a much more tropical setting say NCIS Bermuda.”

“I think we should have a paintball wars, but you could also have a really fierce game of checkers for the nerdier guys,” said Weatherly.

But you gotta go with what the boss wants — and Harmon agreed that ditching the DC snow for sunnier skies would be a welcome change.

“I just know that when they do NCIS Bermuda,” he said with a smile, “that’s the one me and the crew are going on.”

[From Radar]

Sigh… Michael Weatherly actually seems like a really good guy, unlike his character Tony. It’s not that Tony is horrible – he’s a great cop, and he’s really funny, but he’s horrible with women. After Gibbs, my favorites are Ziva and Abby – I love how strong the women are on that show, and for my money, Ziva is the most kick-ass woman on television right now. I would love a Ziva-and-Abby based episode… that would be amazing!

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SHOW!!!! And it’s true how very little you ever see about it’s stars in tabloids(I’ve never seen anything, to be honest). Good for them for handling it all so well.

  2. Feebee says:

I love Tony even the horrible way he is with women! (Michael Wetherley rocks). There’s not really any character to dislike, though Abby gets on my nerves a little and they all work so well as an ensemble. Great to see a smile from the Director, something I don’t think I’ve even seen on the show.

  3. H says:

I love Gibbs and I love Tony too. Tony may be bad with women but you know he take a bullet for Ziva or Abs. This is by far my fav show on TV. It has a great ensemble lead by Mark Harmon. Criminal Minds is another fav for the same reason great ensemble.
Kaiser where is a Ziva pic?

  4. dread pirate cuervo says:

Ooooh, silver fox! Love love love grey on a man. Had a crush on Mark Harmon from Summer School. He’s like the good looking Tom Cruise.

  5. bellaluna says:

Ditto, Katalina76. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS SHOW!!!! Which is very difficult, since I work at night and it’s not available “On Demand” so I’m relegated to reruns on USA – not that I’m complaining. Also, my hubby cannot stand NCIS except for in limited doses, so I’m sorta screwed. Any tips on how to see the current episodes, fellow fans?

  6. Kaiser says:

H – the first pic in the thumbnails is Ziva/Cote de whatever her name is. She didn’t look that great in the photos, but I still love her.

  7. Leslye says:

We watch this show all the time. My husband insists on it on while we’re eating dinner. Mark Harmon is absolutely gorgeous and he seems like he is just the nicest guy. You never hear anything bad about any of the cast members. Michael Weatherly is adorable as well. I love his character. This whole cast rocks.

  8. Maddie says:

    Caf-Pow All the way !!!!!

Never miss a show and love and the cast. Tony is bad with women, but like said he take a bullet for any of them even the Elf Lord.

@bellaluna go to IMDB.com and punch in NCIS and they will have some of the recent eppys to view/

  9. lilred says:

I love this show. I was Abbey last year for halloween. Crazy boots and all. lol

  10. Roma says:

Kaiser, I have been waiting for a bonafide Gibbs post! I honestly can’t watch that show without reaching for a glass of scotch or bourbon. And other than hearing about Mark Harmon saving people in real life, there is never gossip surrounding these actors.

One day, I hope to have my very own Mark Harmon.

  11. canadianchick says:

He’s yummy-I better start watching this show, thanks for the tip.

  12. DoMaJoReMc says:

3 years ago, I named my brand new puppy:

    GIBBS!

  13. bellaluna says:

@Maddie – thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

  14. Judy says:

IMO Mark Harmon is the sexiest man alive and, like Roma, I just pray that one day I will find my own Mark Harmon. I admire him for the person he is, as well as being so great-looking, and also admire his dedication to his wife and family.

  15. Obvious says:

best show on tv. i’m convinced of it!

so excited for tonight’s episodes-i even watch all the reruns, i think i’ve seen every episode at least 3 times.

and as crushed as i was when they killed of kate, ziva is a more than ample replacement-the chemistry on the show really took off after ziva joined ranks. so sad she is now a proby. =(

*it’s not a spoiled if it happened 6 season ago!*

  16. Alarmjaguar says:

Yep, ditto on all the above. Love the show, love all the characters, esp Ziva! Woot!

  17. SeVen says:

I love this show. I also love Mark Harmon but I’ve always had a thing for McGee too.. Dunno what it is about a smart man! woosha!

  18. H says:

Sorry Kaiser I guess I just glanced and assumed the first three were Mark. You are right not her best photo but still love her. An Abby/Ziva episode would be awesome. Abby’s so smart and Ziva kicks ass.

  19. nj says:

Love that Mark Harmon, who is a real life hero. Was there anyone who didn’t fall for him after watching SummerSchool? There is no resisting that smile!
If I was in acting, I’d rather have a career like his and be a stand-up, normal person with a nice life, rather than a huge star in that cutthroat industry, living only to grab more fame and wealth for myself.

  20. ashley says:

I heart this show, although I cannot seem to get into the new one set in LA.

  21. Praise St. Angie! says:

wow…lots of fans of this show.

I gotta ask…is it any better than the one set in LA with LL and O’Donnell?

I watched that ONCE, because a band I like was going to have one of their songs featured, and it was the of the biggest CRAPFESTS I’ve ever seen.

horrible dialogue, poor delivery and too many trying-to-be-clever quips. The “comraderie” between the two leads was very forced and not at all believable.

I’ve loved Mark Harmon since St. Elsewhere (and yes, Summer School ROCKS!), but if his show is anything like the LA one, I’ll pass.

  22. Gwen says:

I LOVE Marc Harmon and NCIS. As good as it is that they stay out of the tabloids, it’s nice to see some news and photos – so thank you Kaiser 😀

  23. Raven says:

CBS seems to be doing this show right. It keeps it at the same time so people know where to find it. Lots of good shows have lost the ratings war after being moved from slot to slot to slot. I started watching the show after seeing episodes on USA and it is one of my few regulars.

  24. Roma says:

The LA one is slowly getting better… I think they’re having a hard time getting everything to jell. It’s also very case heavy, as opposed to NCIS which sometimes doesn’t care if how they wrap up the case even makes sense. I think it just needs to time find itself.

  25. jzhz says:

I like the show, but Mark Harmon looks…his age. Not attractive to me, anyway…

  26. bella mama says:

i LOVE gibbs. i’d take pam dawber out in a heartbeat for him. *swoon*

and yes, SO much better than NCIS LA

  27. I loved this man since I was a little girl. –> Me too! I like that his eyes are always smiling. Haha

  28. Uzi says:

Mark Harmon is just about one of the only People Magazine “Sexiest Man Alive” that has consistently lived up to that title. He just gets better and better with age!

NCIS is my favorite show, and I love the entire cast, a truly wonderful ensemble. I’m old enough to remember David McCallum from his “Man From U.N.C.L.E” days; he’s another hottie that’s grown old gracefully! And Pauly Perrette has the best wardrobe on TV!

Ashley, I’m with you, I can’t get into NCIS Los Angeles either. It’s OK, but nowhere near as good as the original.

  29. Lady Mystery says:

I love Mark Harmon too. Law and Order all the way.

I found your site at Technorati and must let you know that I like the writing skills of the authors of Celebitchy.com. Ha Ha I love the site name and your stories do reflect the name. I look forward to reading your posts daily. I have subscribed to your RSS to get daily reports. Keep up the good work.

  30. angel says:

bellaluna, go to the cbs.com web site…they will have most recent shows.

    And hulu.com has even more….

I am so happy for tv on the computer!

  31. Laura says:

If you listen to the DVD commentaries, you’ll see that not only does Michael come off as a great and nice guy, but a really smart one too!

McGee’s lost some weight this season, and he’s character seems more confident.

  32. Liz says:

I’m seriously addicted to NCIS! Gibbs, DiNozzo (love!), Ziva, McGee, Abby, Duckie..everyone, i love to pieces!

Please feature more of these guys. NCIS!!!

  33. Liz says:

DiNozzo is love love love!! And Ziva…? I can go lesbian for that girl. hahahaha.

  34. sue says:

FINALLY a Mark Harmon/NCIS post! I LOVE every character on this show, have loved Mark Harmon for years. Watch way too many of the reruns.

For a real high, watch Harmon’s guest cameo on West Wing. Soooo sexy.

Actually, I’m kind of glad that there haven’t been a lot of Mark Harmon posts. People who get posted about a lot here are usually doing awful/stupid/scary things.

  35. debbie says:

I absolutely love Mark Harmon and NCIS. The show is the best. Does any one else think something has changed on the feel of the show? I can usually tell when they have new writers by the dialogue. Just wondering.Mark Harmon is still the sexiest man alive to me!!

  36. Peggy says:

If you happened to watch Oprah TV Show today 6/25/10 @ 4PM Central, Tom Cruise was interviewed by Oprah & Tom Cruise resembled Mark Harmon so much, he could pass for Harmon’s younger brother. Both men are handsome!
