I hope that title isn’t too much of a spoiler, but since everyone else is reporting it like this there’s almost no point of trying to skirt around it. If you’re a Grey’s fan and would rather not know the details you can return to the main page and skip this story.
The story is that Heigl was supposed to return to the set of Grey’s on March 1, which was when her maternity leave was scheduled to end. (Heigl took time off when she adopted a special needs baby, Naleigh, from South Korea.) Heigl didn’t come back for whatever reason, probably because she’s an entitled twit and didn’t think she should show up if no one was throwing her a party. Some brief background: last July she complained bitterly about her first day on set to Letterman, which the president of ABC called “unfortunate,” and later took a five week leave of absence. (There’s more, but I’m not going to get all that.) When she came back briefly after adopting Naleigh, the cast and crew supposedly found her tolerable, but that doesn’t seem to have been enough for her to work out her differences with producers. Sources say that Heigl is off Grey’s for good and probably won’t even shoot additional episodes:

Citing sources, Entertainment Weekly reports that the ABC show’s creator, Shonda Rimes, has agreed to release Heigl from her contract; a final exit agreement still needs to be worked out.
Heigl had been on leave from the hit show while she tended to her film career as well as her newly- adopted daughter, Naleigh, but was scheduled to resume shooting episodes March 1.
EW.com reports the actress never appeared at the studio on or after that date , and she may end up not shooting any additional episodes. An ABC rep declined to comment.
The rising star’s relationship with the series has been increasingly bumpy over the years. In 2008, Heigl pulled herself out of the running for the Emmys, complaining that that she wasn’t given any “material…to warrant a nomination.”

For your Grey’s fans that made it this far – will this dramatically change your favorite show? Were you expecting Heigl’s character Izzy to be written off anyway? From what I understand the character had a brain tumor so it’s like they were just preparing to get rid of her. I bet a lot of people are relieved. Now Heigl can concentrate on making terrible romcoms, as if we don’t have enough of those already.

Sheesh, just go already! What is it, 2 or 3 years of will she stay or go rumors?
I bet she’ll have steady film work, but I’d be surprised if it’s anything extraordinary. Probably just more romcoms and ensembles.
Don’t know the details of the baby’s special needs, but for some reason I’m thinking it’s more a developmental issue than a physical issue. Could be wrong on that.

I did read she adopted a baby with special needs. I only read that once, and then there was never any other mention of it…
Is it just me, or does her new brown do make her look so boring and average? Not that I think she was all that attractive before (really, I don’t like her as an actress). I am just shocked at how changing her hair color, changed her whole appeal..

I wish everyone would stop referring to the baby as “special needs.” I recognize that Katherine Heigl is the one who released that information, but it doesn’t need to be mentioned in every story that is written about her. I’m sure she would have taken the time off if she had adopted a baby without special needs.
Sorry if that sounds petty, I’m just getting really sick of hearing it.

Oh I will definitely stop watching if Katherine Heigl goes. I love Heigl and think that all of the “princess” stories about her are crap. She seems extremely sweet and loyal to her friends.

Good. She has just always seemed like such a bitch. I got so tired of hearing her complain about the show that made her a household name that I quit reading articles about her. I did read, however, that she adopted a child from another country with special needs. Supposedly she was moved to adopt by her parents’ adoption of her sister, and the baby’s name is a combination of her mother’s and sister’s names. Hopefully she adopted a special needs child because she has the means and the love it takes to raise one, and not for selfish reasons.

sadly, izzie was once one of my favorites but then shonda and team decimated her character with the infamous “gizzie” storyline….
i am happy to say that i dont miss her, wont miss her and am glad that the alex line will continue on without her, bc i just love my karev!!!

Honestly, this sucks. I started watching Grey’s again this season. I liked Alex and Izzie as a married couple and was waiting for her to come back.
I can’t stand Katherine Heigl, but the girl can act! Lexie and the other newcomers are terrible.

Icecat, right. She’s average looking without the blond hair. She can’t pull it off. It’s amazing how people fall for the ol’ dye job routine. You know those guys who will think anyone is gorgeous with blond hair even if it so obviously not in their natural color range.

It’s not like she was all that happy on Grey’s so it shouldn’t be all that surprising. Plus with a baby now, I seriously doubt she wants to head back to a job where she has been very vocal about her dislike.

Other sites are reporting that Katherine’s final episode has already aired a few weeks ago. Alex ended the marriage and Izzy was going to work at another hospital. She was hardly in any episodes this season so I doubt she will be missed.

I lost interest in Grey’s way back when they had Izzie and married George hook up. So NOT who their characters were. Really, the show started going downhill way back when Isaiah Washington left after that drama.
I think she has not been very PR smart but I doubt she’s as horrible as people portray her. I kinda like her.

She became famous because of the show and she began talking trash about it after the third year (I think) then she talked trash about Knocked Up which made her more famous. I don’t understand why she thinks her crap don’t stink it’s not like she’s Oscar or Emmy worthy.

Good riddance from Grey’s. Her career will tank in two years tops. She has pissed off and offended too many people in the industry to last too much longer at her current level. Her level of entitlement is what irks me. She is an actor living in a town full of actors but she somehow thinks she is super special. She lucked a successful show. She lucked a successful movie. Then she bad-mouths all of them. Her upcoming film, her co-star is Ashton Kutcher. When did he last have a hit? When he was on that TV show that he arrogantly left to become a film star. Film star my arse. All he is known for know is Twitter and who he is married to. Have a good look at your co-star Katherine – your career is headed the same way.

i watch grey’s and always have. i used to think i would care if she left, but now i don’t. they have a lot of other good storylines going right now and i honestly haven’t really noticed that she never came back. whatever.
