Jennifer Aniston is relaxed and funny on Letterman, but her hair is a mess

Note: this video is cut short and the website they mention makes you fill out a survey to view the full video, which I cannot vouch for. It’s the best quality I could find. There’s another clip below.

Yesterday when I covered Jennifer Aniston’s interviews on Regis and Kelly and Good Morning America I mentioned that I was interested in seeing how she would do on tonight’s Late Show with David Letterman. The last time Aniston was on Letterman, in December 2008, she had an uncomfortable appearance in which she seemed flustered by Dave’s questions. Many of you pointed out that it’s Letterman’s job to make the guest feel comfortable, but I could counter that it’s the guest’s job to have prepared a story to tell and to have worked out the details with the host ahead of time.

Aniston was much better on last night’s show, and given Gawker’s coverage I was expecting it to be a disaster. Dave was a little silly with her, but she was really comfortable and funny and rolled with the punches. She even had a cute story to tell about how she got temporarily abandoned in the trunk of a car while filming Bounty Hunter.

On her inclusion in Architectural Digest
After some goofy banter with Dave, he brought out Aniston’s spread in Architectural Digest, which she also discussed on Regis & Kelly yesterday. She explained why her home was profiled, and it had nothing to do with inserting herself into ex husband Brad’s bathroom reading material. “My architect has been in this magazine many times and he has a relationship with them, and I felt like it was kind of an honor. And I also really wanted to celebrate the craftsmen that worked so unbelievably hard and created one of the most exquisite homes… I’ve never seen such beautiful work.” When Dave asked Aniston to explain her home in a sentence, she said simply “sexy, comfortable.” She also revealed that it’s 10,000 square feet and joked that she sometimes swims in the koi pond at the entrance to her home.

When Dave kept looking for more pictures in Architectural Digest, he thumbed to the back and showed a fake article on himself in which he a one small one story home was pictured with the subtitle “Dave’s suburban jewel.”

Dave also showed the sexy cover of W Magazine that Aniston did with Gerard Butler, and then they brought down the tie that she wore on the cover of GQ for that sexy spread. She gifted it to Dave on her last appearance, and he held it up, saing “Gerry eat your heart out.” Now I can’t wait to see Butler on The Late Show tomorrow night, but you know that Kaiser will be covering that! On a purely superficial level, I really don’t like Aniston’s hair all messy like that with a bobby pin in the side. It makes it look like she needs a haircut.

I thought the whole interview was painful! Letterman is such an old cruster- I got the impression he was trying to make her feel uncomfortable. I have to agree on the hair though….it was really distracting.

  2. k says:

I didn’t think she appeared relaxed at all last night

  3. Peach says:

She’s so relaxed and chill. I love how she actually has facial expressions that demonstrate her reaction. I know, I know, it seems quaint. But today that’s not always easy to find.

  4. Justalark says:

Funny, but I was just thinking how pretty Jen looks with softer and more natural-looking hair! Then again, I’m getting bored with the “flat” looks that require a straightening iron–the very look that Jen made popular on “Friends” so many years ago…

  5. truthSF says:

Girl looked like she was on something, I wanted to pass her a w-ed to calm her asss down.

And that face is just…..I have nothing nice to say about it, so I won’t say anything.

  6. N.D. says:

Interview was blah, neither of them was really into it, they seem unable to connect to each other.

The only memorable thing was her uncharacteristicly bad hair, some pics are scary tbh. (case in point http://imageupper.com/i/?S0700010090091D2687037942171779 ) Hope it’s because she had too much fun last night with someone special 🙂

  7. dude says:

I actually like the hair, its different from the usual sleek style she has. Jen really does not wrong in my eyes. Im obviously biased!

  8. ogechi says:

She looked stunning. She spices her styles- including her hair. Nice one!

  9. Melanie says:

Oh, the interview was fine. Letterman is a mean flirt to women he finds attractive. I think he is jealous that the only women who will sleep with him he has to have power over.

  10. Ursula says:

The hair is a mess but I actually enjoyed the interview. I think she was much more comfortable because there are not so many Bermuda triangle goings on at the moment, no asinine bitchy quotes from any member of the triangle for a while. For the first time since 2005, she is doing a press junket without an elephant with 6 kids in the room.

  11. Katalina76 says:

    LOVE THAT JACKET!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Melanie says:

An elephant with six kids! Ha,ha! Thanks Ursula!

  13. lucy2 says:

I don’t like the hair. I’ve seen her hair more wavy before and it was fine, but that just looks a little too messy, IMO. Can’t watch the interview at the moment, but I’ve always kind of gotten the impression that Dave doesn’t make actresses all that comfortable. Not sure why.

  14. Guest says:

The interview was fine – she was cute, funny and relaxed. If you have seen all of her interviews with Letterman over the years you will notice that he has a huge crush on her (check out her appearance in 1998 on youtube where he actually sucks on a piece of her hair). A sign of his love of a female guest is how he handles their intro; people he likes he comes down off the set to meet, usually whispers to, and holds onto until they are nearly seated. If there is ever any awkwardness it is entirely due to Letterman’s crush and awkward questioning. The one exception I would note is the first interview she did with him post divorce in fall 2005. It was still fine and funny, but she was clearly uncomfortable as she seemed in many interviews at that time, probably because of that elephant with six children in the room. People see what they want to see when it comes to her IMHO.

I loved the hair too and agree with those who said it was nice to see a softer, more natural look. I think she looked gorgeous. And I am definitely now interested in seeing what Letterman says to Gerry on wednesday. Check out this video of Gerard from the weekend junket – he’s positively gushing about her in it:

  15. alex says:

ahh Ursula, stop talking about yourself like that.

  16. Melanie says:

Ahh Alex, quite dogging Ursula, that was golden and you know it!

  17. hstl1 says:

Hey, Chris McMillan shook it up, I liked it. And let’s be real, Michael Canale can do no wrong in the hair color department. Loved it!

  18. Jackson says:

I will never get the attraction of this woman. I guess if I was into Friends, maybe? She does have pretty eyes though and her haircolor is generally great. The rest? I just don’t get it. That being said, I do like a bit of a fluffier hairstyle on her – the superstraight, flat hair she usually wears just accentuates her face.

  19. JohnnieR says:

AAAAAAH! My guy brain is once again assaulted by my Horsey-Face “friend” – shit-haired, Huvane A listed, D talented listed Jennifer Assiston!

Will someone PLEASE pull the plug on this broad’s ‘career’? Please? For me?

My testosterone spoke to me today, and thinks Jennifer should start to cover up and dress more age appropriately; her bod is not as hot as she or others think it is.

Ohhh…can’t wait to see her latest, award winning rom-com! I’m so excited!
And I just can’t hide it! I’m about to lose control and I don’t think I like it!

  20. Melanie says:

It is really an odd feeling I get reading the above post, but I think that is not really a MAN baby~ Most men don’t talk about testosterone and complain about too much skin. Nice try though. Very cute.

  21. The Queen Bee says:

I really don’t find her the least bit charming or attractive. Her face is hard, even with the multiple rhinoplasties. She has a good body that she works hard for but it LOOKS like she works hard for it. It takes an extremely superficial person to spend all their time working out and dieting, getting their hair and makeup done, rather than building a family or giving back to charitable causes.

Oh wait, I forgot, the Mexican people benefit from her drunken birthday parties. What a generous woman! Not.

  22. Hannah says:

    Love the hair!!

  23. Heaven-bound says:

    @ JohnnieR

Really? you don’t think she has a great body?
I wonder what you consider a great body then.

She has awesome skin and I love the dress and the hair. Im just waiting for Cheyenne to start the bashing in … 3..2.. 1

  24. snapdragon says:

she should wear her hair pulled back more often, just to mix it up.

  25. Dawn says:

    needs comb and brush

  26. JohnnieR says:

Melanie, I can assure you, honey-pie, that I indeed entered this world with my male jewels intact. And believe me, sweetheart, more guys than you know DO in fact like a woman to dress like a lady, not an age-inappropriate attention whore. You’d be surprised.

Now run along and set your hair. 😉

  27. frankie says:

Her hair looked bad, like she stood in front of a huge fan a few seconds before she went on. Normally her hair is arranged to subdue her
cheeky/horse-ish but cute face. It also looked a tad greasy. I dont dislike her at all but the hair was remarkably unkempt

  28. alex says:

@Melanie: Sweetie, that is not golden that is sad and pathetic but then again what do you expect for bitter Ursula. The girl get off on hating on Angie

  29. skibunny says:

#19 You give the impression that perhaps you are a jealous female?
I think she looks gorgeous. Love her hair!

  30. Praise St. Angie! says:

to the Queen Bee…you’re certainly entitled to your opinion of this woman’s looks, body, or whatever. Beauty is in the eye and all that…

but, it may interest you to know that Aniston does donate a lot of money and time to charities. I know this goes against the impression that the haters’ like to portray, but she does give. she just doesn’t make a big deal out of it, as some do.

    http://www.looktothestars.org/celebrity/92-jennifer-aniston

she also does major fund-raising and is a spokesperson for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. so, apparently, her hair and make-up isn’t all she does.

as for her not having a family, I find it incredibly narrow-minded and judgmental for you to insinuate that “building a family” is necessary to not be deemed “superficial”.

for some, their circle of friends is their family. just because she’s not married and popping out or adopting kids does not make her superficial.

  31. canadianchick says:

I’d be umcomfortable too if I was being hit on by a dirty old man who is a known philanderer. If Brad cheated with Angie as many of us suspect, if not sexually, then he emotionally cheated with Angie on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith, JA might not want to have coiffed hair and may have needed to take a Xanax to get through that particular interview with Dave Slutterman.

  32. JohnnieR says:

Ladies, ladies, and I use that term rather loosely in THIS joint…

Be rest assured that JohnnieR IS ALL-BRAN…er…All-MAN!

You dang crazy dames…ya think ya’s so smart, eh?

  33. snowball says:

Guest, that’s an awesome clip. Just to hear Gerry swearing was cute enough, but he was so sweet about JA.

Gah, she looked FINE on Letterman. Wasn’t the pic of her in that gold dress with her hair all ratty and fuzzy back in the Brad days supposed to be one of her best looks? I don’t like the bobby pin choice, a nice barrette would have been better, but c’mon.

JohnnyR = that nutterball AJ person that got kicked off of DL

What exactly is dressing age-appropriately at 40? Just because your mom is 40 and wears sweat pants and a stained t-shirt all day doesn’t make it age-appropriate.

If you don’t think JA’s got a hot body, you’re most definitely a woman, blind, jealous or as I said, the loonie who got booted from DL.

Even the haters say she’s got a decent body, whatever they think she does to get it. You’ve got issues.

  34. Liz says:

Well of course the AD article had NOTHING to do with her billy goat ex! The JP loons are the ones keeeping that story alive and well.

Jen did an awesome job on Letterman and she is one gorgeous woman!

  35. kim says:

Hey Ursula what about the elephant in the room ‘the John Mayer Playboy interview’. Dave discussed it with Jessica”sexual napalm” Simpson. Well I guess JA instructed him not to bring up the guy who dumped her twice in this interview.I guess that’s best even though she just mentioned she is willing to go back to an ex. SO maybe JM 3 times the charm.

  36. JohnnieR says:

    SnowBALLS,

If you think I’m of the female persuasion and was once on DL (which I was not) then whatever floats your Octomommy uterus, honey.

And, yes, I DO think there is a thing as dressing age appropriately, I also think MEN (which I am proudly one) have a far better perception of how a woman should dress than most broads do. And NO, I do not think Jennifer’s body is all that at ALL. Her arms are too stringy, and her legs are overrated and ‘pumped’ up by the CFM shoes she’s sporting.

    Just my Canadian toonie.

  37. Maritza says:

She is so nice and relaxed. She should curl her hair more often, it looks good. What a fabulous life she has… traveling the world just to promote her movies, working with great looking men, living in a beautiful mansion, and partying with her best friends.

  38. Izzie says:

Well, I’m with JohnnieR – whether he/she is a man OR woman! 😉

To me, Aniston has that Jack-O-Lantern face thing going on. She has never struck me as an attractive woman, and I agree – totally overrated, and BORING as hell in interviews.

  39. michellllle says:

Appears to have a good sense of humor & more than handled herself esp considering Letterman tends to be an ass. I so agree w/ Peach, natural facial movements are becoming more & more rare. Loved her hair, nice change. She looked great, what’s new?

  40. N.D. says:

2Praise St. Angie!: Well, I’ve seen this list before, but if you dig deeper you’ll see that her involvement with these charities is limited to giving her old clothes for auction or hosting a party or making an appearance. In most cases it’s a one time involvement. I think the first time ever there were news about her giving an actual money was after Haiti benefit.

Her biggest involvement is with St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital for whom she narrated a book along with her father and was featured in fundraising videos.

I’m not saying there’s something wrong with it. It’s great that she’s involved in whatever form (And she seems to be more into it recently then ever before) Just don’t exaggerate it as it was and is such a big part of her life.

Totally agree on “not having a family” part though. It’s not just an outdated idea that woman should get a man and bear him a child to be complete and happy what’s wrong with it. It’s also really unfair to blame her of all people for not having a traditional family. You can’t start a family all by yourself, and meeting the right people at the right time depends on luck more than on one’s determination and efforts. It’s not like she haven’t tried after all.

  41. The Queen Bee says:

    Praise!

I clicked on your link. The very first item proves her involvement in charities is SUPERFICIAL at best!

It’s that sham puff piece where she attempts to write off her birthday party as charitable giving to benefit the people of Mexico.

  42. Melanie says:

Oh, ga, here we go. Not everyone publishes how much money they give to charity. It is just not done. It is a private matter between you and the IRS. Don’t blame people who do not make public the amount of their donations. It is not even LEGAL for charities to list donation amounts of individuals! Charities must have consent to publish the amount of donations.

  43. Praise St. Angie! says:

Queen Bee, pick out one story if you like, so that you can continue your (false) assessment of her. Go ahead, ignore the many other charities she gives to. if you want to keep that view of her charitable giving, however wrong it may be, no one can stop you.

however, my point stands – she DOES contribute, she DOES give money and time. And as Melanie stated, those are just the charities that Aniston’s camp has made public. there may be more that the public doesn’t know about.

(seeing as how I’m not married and I don’t have kids, I’m assuming you’ll dismiss my information since I must be one of them superficial people.)

  44. Mihaela says:

I think she looked great, hair included..

  45. justathought says:

Shame on these two for making fun of a middle class American home…”a place to store rakes”…what a shallow interview! Do they think everyone lives in 10 thousand sq ft multi million dollar abodes?

  46. Guest says:

While this is off topic, I am going to respond re the chartiies issue. Besides Haiti, she also gave $500k to Hurricane Katrina efforts as I recall (so no, Haiti was not her first time giving). But, as Praise St. Angie points out she does not normally publicize her specific monetary donations (and even spoke of her dislike of such publicity in an interview in London in fall 2004). Now before anyone jumps on that, she does support publicly a number of charities: St. Jude’s being the most obvious example. Others include Feeding America, Friends of El Faro, Clothes Off Our Backs, Omni Peace and Hope for Haiti. There is a difference in trumpeting charities in an effort to draw attention and support to them, and in trumpeting your own donation to said charities.

I can’t prove she gives monetary donations to charities, just as others here can’t prove she does not. However, I will note an example of her undercover giving that makes me a believer this is her norm. Billy Bush stated on his radio program after conducting the Mexico interview that he knew she had been responsible personally for saving the orphanage from financial brink many times over the years. He added that she had recently given $500k to Casa Hogar Sion – a fact that she did not allow publicized in the interview. How did he know – not from Jennifer (he said how she herself had not been the one to tell him this), but from the couple who runs the orphanage who he had met at the party during her birthday weekend where she launched the Farita doll for the charity.

  47. Kaye says:

I can’t help myself, I just like her. I think Dave has become a terrible interviewer. He just babbles inanely without really asking any questions. She seemed fairly comfortable considering he’s an idiot. What was all that nonsense about being American and how she’s doing exactly what she’s supposed to be doing and just throwing out names of past movies she’s done. Really poorly done.

Oh and I totally agree with you “justathought.” It’s like, f-you, most people don’t have a hundred million dollars in the bank.

  48. Guest says:

A couple of things. I don’t think that Jennifer ever is really relaxed when doing interviews. She always seems a bit nervous to me. CB was right when she says she doesn’t always bring her A game. She never seems quite comfortable, sometimes I wonder if it is because she is worried about the questions she will be asked – who knows. this interview was Ok though.

So agree about the whole thing that if you do not have children you are shallow. I am amazed that women actually think this way anymore. Our life as women is not to have babies to make men happy. Is it?

About the charity. What I find interesting is that somehow in some people’s minds giving to a charity makes you a better person. Really? Almost like if you are a person with some character flaws it is OK since you give to charity. So weird. It is like someone is keeping score and the more money to charity the better the person is. Not really so. Mel Gibson gives millions – not a better person as far as I am concerned. There is always endless talk about Jen and charities. She does give – example 500,000 to Haiti. But that aside why always Jen. Does Johnny Depp give to charity much. What about Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, etc. Never hear about these guys giving and yet never on their posts do I see them being talked about and how they don’t help charities. I believe all these guys give including Jennifer. They just don’t put out news release when they do. I think that however you want to give is fine and we should not compare what celebrities give because we really have no idea how much they are giving.

  49. Harper says:

Jennifer is funny and cute. I really like her and enjoy her films. No, she’s not the “sex kitten” type of look – but she’s charming and down to earth and I find that refreshing about her.

  50. Melanie says:

Guest at #48. I am in total agreement about all your points. I think she is shy for one, and afraid of the 6 kid “elephant” (tee hee Ursula)questions. Also, it IS so bizarre to say that a man is within his rights to cheat if a woman has fertility problems. Have we not evolved at all? That is prehistoric! What about love and feelings? Why get married in the first place? Also everytime that AJ donates to charity Jennifer is supposed to “match that”. What a stupid set of double standards that Jennifer detractors adhere to. I think Jennifer fans just have higher IQ’s.

  51. Beth says:

I thought Jennifer’s hair looked a mess because of the wind. I’m shocked that she and her hairdresser wanted it that way. It doesn’t look cute.

  52. Praise St. Angie! says:

Guest, I appreciate your additions to the discussion. you make some excellent points.

but, to quote one of the resident Brangelina specialists, “haters gon’ hate”.

  53. Cheyenne says:

She’s worth #110 million and she can’t spend 99 cents on a comb?

  54. Jules says:

Jennifer looks darling in these pics and the weird thing is she looks at least 5 years younger than Angie. Funny, I thought Angie was about 7 years younger than Jen??? Hmmmmmm.

#42 Melanie — I agree completely, the people like Angie who constantly publish their charitable donations are doing it for one reason only – themselves.

  55. Melanie says:

Jules, not only that but is strange timing, no? Kinda like ” I have nothing coming out right now, but LOOK AT ME!” And they say JenHens are paranoid! (heehaw!)

  56. Camille says:

I know I’m among the few here who don’t idolise this woman, but I don’t think she looks good here at all. And she doesn’t look in her 30s at all either, but a well preserved woman of her own age (nothing wrong with that).
I like the coat she has on though. There, I said something nice. lol

  57. Cheyenne says:

@melanie: No man has a right to cheat on his wife if she is fertility problems, but where did you read that Aniston has fertility problems? I’m talking about a reputable source now, not a tabloid.

There was never a hint of any fertility problems in the five years of their marriage. If Aniston didn’t want children, she had a right not to have any. But in that case, she should have come correct and spared everyone the bullshit about I-will-and-I-am-and-I-do. She knew Brad wanted a large family and if she didn’t want kids she should have told him that from the get-go. If he had known that from the beginning he might never have married her, but that is a risk she should have been willing to take.

  58. Heaven-bound says:

    Aha!!!

I told you Cheyenne was going to come out of the woodwork to criticize, she is the number one hater of JA. It seems to be her priority in life, so sad.

  59. Spanxx says:

How do you people know what was going on in that relationship? Maybe she really wanted kids but wised up when she realized she didn’t want to bring kids into a sh-tty situation? You know, that would be the responsible thing to do! Jeez… such a bunch of authorities about something you know nothing about.

  60. whatever says:

Oh, gosh here we go. I really can’t stand her. She’s trying SO HARD to be a cutesy little girl. It just comes off as pathetic, like those Housewives on Bravo who act their shoe size and not their age. As for charity, I remember an E! interview where she had to be told that girl she did that St. Jude’s commercial with had survived cancer. She didn’t know. Way to go Jen!

  61. N.D. says:

2 Guest: I’d realy like to see a link where it states she donated 500K to Hurricane Katrina efforts because I’m unable to find any.

About 500K for the ophranage – you’ve missed an important bit from Billy Bush praises – that wasn’t her money (well, at least not all of them), she asked her guests not to give her birthday presents, but to donate to that orphanage in Tijuana. Which again is a very nice thing to do, but it’s not the same as giving herself.

And “you can’t prove that she isn’t donating privately” is a very week one, because I also can’t prove she isn’t a KKK member, and you know, not everyone wants to make their political creed public etc. Don’t think I’m allowed making statements about how you all just don’t know her well enough but she’s totally doing it.

And about her being against donating publicly – hard to belive that when you learn she did just that while on Oprah show. Couldn’t be more public imho 🙂 Anyways even if she ever was shy about donating money publicly she seems to be growing out of it fast, in the last 2 month she annonced it twice – in an indirect form with an ophranage (you don’t invite journos to your private charity parties for nothing) and directly for Haiti.

  62. Celebitchy says:

Izzie and JohnnieR are the same person. Banned for multiple nicknames.

  63. nnn says:

I don’t like the hairstyle, it makes me think of a variation that she had on the Oscars last years wih Mayer. But i like the flufiness in them.

She should really try to add volume in her hair and find the best style for them.

  64. Melanie says:

I knew JohnnieR wasn’t a man! What man breaks into show tunes when talking about how ugly a woman is? That is funny!

  65. Kevin says:

Way to clean up the forum CB baby! What’s wrong with show tunes?

  66. Melanie says:

    Not a thing Kevin. 🙂

  67. Kevin says:

    Cool Mel, was just wonderin!

  68. kandy says:

I agree with you, ND. Well said.

  69. alexandra says:

She is so insecure. She just comes across so desperate to fit in with Gerry. COOKING for him that does not work with bad boys. Bad boys need to be treated indifferently and then they come to you.

  70. saywat says:

Not a good look!!! But then again, her face’s not that pretty. I want her body though.
