I am not an Ellen Pompeo hater. Of course, I don’t watch Grey’s Anatomy, so that might have something to do with it? But I find her tolerable. I think she used to be just gorgeous, pre-Grey’s, but something about that show made her lose a lot of weight (which was sad) and begin thinking she was some kind of fashion girl (which she isn’t). So basically my current opinion of her is something like “meh”. But that was before I read these interview excerpts from her cover profile in Self Magazine.
Ellen Pompeo, who gave birth to daughter Stella Luna in September, covers the April issue of Self magazine. In the interview, Ellen, 40, talks about how motherhood has changed her body.
On her pregnancy weight gain:
“I went up a pants size during my pregnancy. I was in size 25 jeans and went to 26. I gained 26 pounds. I weigh 10 pounds more than I ever have. I love it.”On criticism for being too thin:
“Everyone always told me I was too skinny before, and I thought, Oh, God, what if there are 14-year-olds who think I’m not eating, and then they don’t eat? Do I have a responsibility? Really, I don’t care if people think I’m too skinny. This is my body. If they don’t like it, screw it.”On healthy eating:
“Take a few hours and prepare lunch for the week. On Sundays, I premake everything for salads. I boil a dozen eggs and parboil beets. I chop lettuce, cilantro, scallions and parsley and put it all in Ziploc bags. During the week, I just grab handfuls, add dressing, dump in a can of beans, some goat cheese, and I’m ready to go.”On taking just four weeks maternity leave before returning to the Grey’s set:
“A lot of people couldn’t understand why I wouldn’t take my maternity leave. I make a good living, but I won’t always make this kind of money. I felt I needed to work while I had this opportunity.”
[From Huffington Post]
So she’s thrilled that she weighs ten pound more than she used to? And I’m guessing she’s still drastically underweight, although she looks very healthy and pretty in these photos, so maybe not. Sure, I generally agree with her “It’s my body” sentiments, but if you really feel that way, why go on the cover of Self and talk about how you went up one size while pregnant and try to convince us of how “healthy” you are? I feel like Ellen has Renee Zellweger Syndrome.

Er…isn’t that physically impossible, to only gain 1″ around your waist while pregnant?
I stopped watching Grey’s eons ago, and always found her character way too whiny.
She does look good on the magazine cover, that 10 pounds does wonders for her. She always looked a little unhealthy/skinny before.

I watch Grey’s (although it has been lacking without George) She doesn’t really look anything like that cover shot. Nor is she that svelt(in the episodes yet)
RuPaul is yelling in my head “airbrush for your Life.”
it’s her ally McBeal acting that bothers me. Oh, and that she named her poor baby after a BAT
..
weight gain/loss big deal. first baby. girl. if she were younger we probably wouldn’t have even noticed she was pregnant. That tiny girl who plays her sister has a trio of children. She stayed smaller then Ellen throughout…

Pregnant or not, I find it hard to believe that a person could gain 26lbs and only go up one pants size.

Gisele Bunchen was sort of the same. Even at 8 months, you could barely tell she was pregnant at all. Wasn’t Nicole Kidman the same? I don’t think I buy the 1″ bigger thing either, I don’t know where she was measuring herself.
Is the producer of Grey’s Anatomy the same as Ally McBeal? David Foster? Michele Pfeiffer’s husband. For whatever reason, all the women on his shows seem to develop eating disorders or else he picks women that are ridiculously skinny to begin with. Sandra Oh is freaky skinny, worse than Ellen.
She’s been airbrushed to hell. She doesn’t look like that at all, her face is unrecognizable. If you didn’t say that was Ellen Pompeo, I wouldn’t know who it was.

she looks like Elizabeth Edwards.

@snowball – MP’s husband is David E Kelly, who did produced Ally McBeal and a number of other legal shows, and there have been several actresses on his shows that had eating disorders.
Shonda Rimes produces Grey’s. There seem to be varying sizes among the actresses there, but Ellen was really thin for a while. Sandra Oh is too, but I think she’s always been that way.

She is full of it….like the others above have said there is no way she could gain 26lbs and only go up one pants size. None. She’s delusional.
Don’t these people know how saying this kinda malarky will sound?? I did a total eyeroll when I read the title of this post.
Oh and nice airbrushing.

I don’t really think it’s physically possible to gain 26 lbs and only go up one size. I mean, I could believe she only gained an inch on her hips, but not at her waist! There is a baby in there!

LIAR. We have seen the photos, and she was up way more than one size. Maybe she means she’s up one size now- that would actually make sense.

WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT !!
it’s possible!
I’ve got no reason to lie to you. I gained no weight to speak of with my first girl. Didn’t “show” until I was 7.5 months.
didn’t need bigger clothes until 8.5 months. Then it was all straight out in front, like I swallowed a giant ball. Wore my skinny jeans home from the hospital 6 hours after giving birth. (with slight muffin top
Now, with my first son, I gained 10 lbs instantly whilst looking in the mirror and *thinking I might be pregnant* Well over 100lbs when said and done and took a year to get it off.

Especially when you’re that skinny to begin with. If she were 400 lbs, 26 lbs wouldn’t make much difference. But when you’re probably barely breaking 100, 26 is a lot to add to it.
I don’t know why actresses say stuff like that either.

Thanks, lucy2! I was having a senior moment and couldn’t remember if he was involved with this one too or what his name was.
He just seems to turn up wherever there are skinny women.

If she wears her pants low, under the belly, then it is very plausable she only went up one pants size.
Of course her belly circumference would grow more than an inch, I saw a pic of her in her final stages of pregnancy, and she had a big ol belly. 26 lbs is a healthy pregnancy weight gain.
I have been pregnant twice, and if you wear low non-maternity pants, you just need to buy one or two sizes bigger to fit your hips and a$$

i’m pretty sure she meant she went up one dress size after she had her baby…you know since she says she 10 lbs heavier now…read between the lines peole

When she aid she only went up 1 size I assumed she meant wearing very low rise jeans. That the pants fit under her belly not over it.

I’m with tar – if she wears lowriders, it’s totally possible. And I seem to remember only seeing pictures of her either coming from or going to the gym throughout her pregnancy. She practically lived there for all nine months.

Okay…so her acting kills me. I always think to myself “damn I could do a better job…she’s so scripted…how in the hell did she get this part?!” I also hoped when they brought “Little Grey” onto the show that they would kill her off. No luck yet.
Anyway, regarding the weight..26lbs is perfect weight gain for a baby. I’m 5 months pregnant now and I actually haven’t even went up a size and have gained 12lbs so far…they make a thing called a belly band where you don’t have to do up your jeans it goes over them and makes them bump friendly. Mine are starting to get a little tight on my hips/butt, so I might go up a size… as much as I dislike her, it’s possible. It’s so unhealthy when people gain 50lbs+ while pregnant! My doctor went on extensively about it when I went in the first time. He said you only need 300 extra calories a day. If you are exercising you add, obviously, since you don’t want to lose weight. He said you should never gain over 35lbs because it isn’t healthy and really, really hard to take off after.
I really do hope she gets killed off the show…she’s so whiney and scripted. Annoying as anything. Ugh.

where did those 26lbs go if she only gained an inch? how does that make any sense? she must have been wearing her jeans under her bump.

i really think she meant that she NOW wears a size 26 and is 10lbs heavier.
i am pretty sure she is not talking about her belly size when she was pregnant.

I don’t think she’s a zellweger. She’s always looked too thin, and I think her sentiments came off fine.
Now I don’t know anything about pregnancy, so maybe she is not telling the truth about the size or whatever. But I hate when everyone’s all “I know for a fact that’s impossible based on the statistic that it was impossible for me”. That’s not enough evidence. i DO believe Pompeo likes her extra 10 pounds though. I think she’s the type that has trouble gaining weight (regardless of whether she used to have it or not), and probably loves the natural change of curves/healthy glow pregnancy gave her.

My 2 cents….
I had many people lecture me during my pregnancy b/c they didn’t think I gained enough weight. I was pregnant with twins and monitored by an OBGYN and perinatologist. My doctors thought I was gaining the perfect amount of weight. I worked out and ate healthy. My girls were born full-term for twins and didn’t spend one night in the nicu.
I gained 29 lbs total. That’s just how my body gestates. I was able to wear my size zero lucky jeans the entire pregnancy. The jeans were low-rise.
I delivered naturally and my belly diappeared after the 2nd twin came out.
My point is, I believe it is possible to go up only one pant size during a pregnancy.

Where the heck is she shopping for pants? The sizes are always even numbers for women, right? I’m plus-size, and am a size 20. Next size up is 22, then 24, 26, 28, etc. 25? Can someone clear this up for me?
Report this comment as spam or abuse
@gatsby: These are sizes which go by waist measurement: a 25 would be probably similar to a 0 or 2, a 26 would be like a 2 or 4. It can be confusing, because these sizes are applied to low rise jeans as well, that don’t even go to the waist.

Her body has been hidden on the show – baggy clothes & shooting angles, but she does look heavier. I have been wondering if she got the cheek implants that are such a rage now (even though I think they made everyone look like Cat Woman)- in some angles her face looks funny but maybe it’s bad angles.
I thought she was so cute when the show began but she looks totally different now, not just the baby weight, before that also.

I really liked her in the beginning, but it seems that pregnancy has finally allowed her body to catch up. She is pretty much unrecognizable from the first couple seasons of Grey.
I wish she had started on Grey younger, because she now looks just way too haggard and slightly chubby to play her schtick as a neurotic cutie. Looks way too old and matronly to play cute.
Thank god for that girl who plays Lexie, or else there would be no more cutie on the show, now that Ellen’s age has caught up and Katherine “diva” Heigl is adios. (The blonde lesbian acts too cute for her age and it annoys the hell out of me.)

Ellen Pompeo character on GA is central when she had taken time off to have her baby/only appeared in a few framed shots, I noticed that the quality of the show dipped.
Ellen is that kind of actress that you might not like her but when she’s gone you realize that she was the center, where it all revolved around her.
I like her and I like her unusual speaking pattern it’s unique.

her hair is SO not that thick and lustrous. no way.

Well maybe she wore her jeans under her belly. Her belly obviously got larger, but I always like the maternity pants that went under the belly instead of completely over it. She did gain some weight in her face.
I think she looks great now and very vibrant on the cover.
Am I the only one that thinks she isn’t eating enough? I mean, that description is only for one of her meals and I’m not saying she has to eat a cheeseburger or anything. It just seems like a very strict diet.

Why is ANYONE talking about their body this way, FFS?
Are we really this demented? Can you imagine tolerating questions about your waistline and caloric intake etc? WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE????????
When you start talking about your pregnancy waist measurement to complete strangers for money, you need to check yourself into a psych ward or maybe someplace where you can buy that soul back.
We are out of our tiny minds.

She’s talking about her weight because that’s what the reporter asked her. Interviewees don’t usually just get to go on and on about any topic that comes to mind. Obviously, readers have strong opinions about her (and everyone else’s) weight, so it was probably a question.
