Dennis Hopper is nearly broke, nearly dead

Dennis Hopper Diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer

A few months ago, a rash of stories about Dennis Hopper began coming out. Apparently, Dennis was not only on his deathbed, but he had had enough with his fifth wife Victoria, and had filed for divorce and ordered Victoria out of the house. Then we heard about how it might have been Dennis’s adult daughter probably instigated the whole thing because she wants more access to her dad’s estate. And now TMZ is reporting that Dennis doesn’t actually have much of an “estate” left – he’s broke! Yikes.

Dennis Hopper is extremely ill from his battle with cancer — he weighs a little over 100 pounds and is nearly broke, according to new court documents obtained by TMZ.

Attorney Joe Mannis in Hopper’s mega-divorce case, paints a grim picture of Hopper’s life. One of his doctors submitted a declaration, stating, “It is doubtful that Mr. Hopper will ever recover sufficiently to be subject to a deposition.”

Hopper says in the legal docs he is willing to pay estranged wife Victoria $5,000 a month in spousal support, and that’s all he can afford. Hopper’s CPA says Dennis’ liquid assets total $300,280 … plus another $10,900 in Hopper’s corporations.

The CPA says in recent years, “Hopper has basically lived on income derived from new acting services.” Because of his cancer, Hopper can’t work, and in 2009 he earned $57,000 in residuals. Mannis says that’s what Hopper will pull in this year as well.

Victoria has alleged Dennis is loaded because of art he has created and sold. Dennis counters in legal docs that in the last 9 years he’s sold art to the tune of $1,895,000, but his expenses to create and store the art totaled $1,850,000 — so he’s saying the net profit for 9 years is a measly $45,000.

According to the docs, Dennis has been living off a $450,000 line of credit, but there is “no further borrowing possible.”

Um… where are all of Dennis’s big Hollywood friends? Seriously, I would expect Jack Nicholson or Sean Penn to get his back and help him out financially, legally and whatever else he needs. Of course, I do have another theory: maybe Dennis’s daughter is restricting access to her dad, not just for Dennis’s estranged wife, but for everyone. In any case, it’s a sad situation, even if Dennis was once a son of a bitch.

He made $57,000 last year. That’s broke for an actor but that’s life for a lot of us real people.

Dennis Hopper: My Wife is Killing Me

Dennis Hopper has filed legal papers in his bitter divorce case … Dennis says he’s perfectly capable of making decisions, and his doctor claims the less Dennis has to do with his estranged wife, Victoria, the longer he will live.

Dennis filed for divorce against Victoria last month. She claims Dennis’ adult children are pulling his strings and want to cut her out of his will. In their declarations, Dennis and his doctor say the actor is of sound mind to make his own decisions.

Under the prenup between Dennis and Victoria, if they divorce she loses her 25% cut of Dennis’ estate.

In Dennis’ declaration, he says Victoria’s mother “…told me in November of 2009 that I should simply leave the bulk of my property to [Victoria] as I was going to die soon. I found this statement distressing, inappropriate, bizarre, and disturbing.”

Dennis also says last December, Victoria and her mother woke him up in the middle of the night and grilled him about how much money and property Victoria would get when Dennis died.

As for Victoria’s claims that Dennis smoked medical marijuana in front of their young girl, he says he has never smoked in front of the child. Dennis says Victoria’s demand that he not smoke within six hours of seeing their daughter is “an absurd request.” He says he would agree to not smoke pot within one hour of visitation.

Dennis is asking for daily visitation rights to 6-year-old Galen between 5 and 7 PM.

We’re told the prenup says Victoria must leave Dennis’ compound where she currently resides, 60 days after divorce papers were filed — so the move-out date would be March 11.

And Dennis wants Victoria to give him his stuff back, mainly artwork.

    and this one

Restraining Order in Dennis Hopper Case

TMZ was in court this morning in the Dennis Hopper/Victoria Hopper divorce case, where the judge just ruled Victoria must stay 10 feet away from Dennis, his adult son, Henry, his daughter, Marin and his assistant, Emily Davis.

The judge also ruled Victoria may not enter the main Dennis Hopper residence in Venice, CA or any other portion of the property other than the unit where Victoria is currently living. The judge ruled Victoria can stay in the unit until the agreed date in the prenup. As we first reported, under the prenup, Victoria must leave the unit on March 11 — 60 days after the divorce petition was filed.

The judge also gave Dennis visitation rights to their daughter, Galen, every day between 5 and 7 PM.

She will also get the exclusive use of their 2002 Jaguar.

    and the most interesting one

Dennis Hopper Prenup — He Gets Everything

The judge in Dennis Hopper divorce case just unsealed a copy of the prenuptial agreement Dennis had with estranged wife Victoria, and unless she gets the prenup invalidated … she’s screwed.

    Prenup Hightlights:

-Dennis keeps all his property — which includes a house and a condo in Venice, a building in New Mexico on 320 acres, land in Arizona and a number of other properties.

-Dennis keeps his “separate property pension and retirement benefits.”

-Dennis keeps his huge collection of fine arts worth over $2.5 million — including a $350,000 painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat.

-Victoria has to move out of his house within 30 days of either party filing for divorce … but it’s bumped up to 60 days if they have a child together, which they do.

And here’s the kicker: Victoria was guaranteed a $250,000 life insurance policy
and 25% of everything in his will … but only if they’re married and living together at the time of his death. So, here’s the deal — they no longer live together, so it would appear even if Dennis were to die before the divorce is final, she gets zilch.

But there’s something in the prenup for Victoria, too. She gets to keep her separate property — including two computers, two bookcases full of books, a 1973 VW Karmann Ghia, and her grandma’s furniture.

  10. N.D. says:

And he isn’t all but forgotten by Hollywood

Ailing movie legend DENNIS HOPPER has finally got something to smile about as he battles divorce and cancer – the EASY RIDER star is to be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The actor will unveil the 2,403rd star in front of the Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard on 26 March (10).

Viggo Mortensen will be on hand to induct Hopper into the Walk of Fame.

  11. oxa says:

There is no way he is near broke, that compound in Venice is worth millions and I feel his greedy grownkids are behind this .

  12. Majosha says:

They all sound like assholes. I feel terrible for the little girl, who has to endure this mess without reprieve.

  13. nice blog post about this topic. this makes me ask a question though, so i dont really understand the relation of this topic and your entire blog. it just doesnt go together. But nontheless i found it very readable. Cheers, Rizwan

  14. lucy2 says:

What a mess. I bet the courts end up having to get involved and it takes a long time and costs a lot of money to sort it all out. I think they need a neutral 3rd party to take over.
If there is any money left from his estate when it’s all said and done, I hope his youngest daughter gets her fair share. His older kids are adults capable of supporting themselves, but a young kid can’t.

    Yay marriage

  17. Aitch says:

    I love Dennis Hopper…

  18. Robert Spezzano says:

This is so very disgusting Although Dennis Hopper was not saint
He Dose not deserve this kind of Mess in his Current condition
And There are few who could follow his footsteps,
I just thing its sickening his wife stealing his possessions out the back door
And his daughter waiting for his money, do we not have ant dignity left
I sure hope some long trusted friend comes to his side
And I think if his has anything left when he passes on
    They should go to charity
and let those greedy gold diggers earn there own Money

    Take care of Dennis Hopper

  19. LadyBlue says:

It’s sad to see a person deteriorating like that, but it’s actually sort of miracle to see Dennis dying of natural causes. With his sort of lifestyle (partying, drinking and doing an obscene amount of drugs), I wonder how he didn’t die back in the early 70s.
Nicholson is famously a very loyal friend…I heard he did everything he could to help Robert Evans to keep his mansion when times got rough and stuff…I wonder why he’s not doing anything for Dennis. Perhaps because things are way too ugly for him to intrude?
And Penn…well, though he completely loves both Dennis and Nicholson (he named his son Hopper Jack!), he’s too much of a nutcase to care about anyone else.

  20. Best wishes Dennis and may you get well soon,

  23. I purchsed my futon on January 2011, I love it, it looks great with extra pillows. The only thing is the cushion tends to side. I purchased a piece of carpet pad and placed it between frame and cushion and it worked.
