Personally I found him a little obnoxious on the show, but he gave TV debuts to The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Living Colour and many more not-yet-signed, barely-getting-club-gigs bands that went on to stardom. He's very savvy and introduced bands which might have disappeared had they not appeared on his show. If he has advice for Paula Abdul, she should take it. She's probably had a substantial raise from Simon Cowell, who realized American Idol started to tank after she left.
