Jamie Foxx: I’m not gay because I can eat pizza in the men’s shower

Vanity Fair Oscar Party 2010 - Los Angeles

A few weeks ago, Howard Stern and Jamie Foxx got into a heated war of words. I think it may have actually started with Stern’s comments about Gaby Sidibe, actually. But it didn’t take long for the war to become less about Sidibe’s honor and more about two douches whipping out their wangs and trying to prove who was bigger. Jamie and his friends got on Jamie’s radio show (The Foxxhole) and bashed Howard and Howard’s sidekick Robyn. Then Stern said something, something, blah, blah, Jamie Foxx is GAY. And then Jamie responded about the gay thing. But Jamie might have given us more questions than answers.

Here’s the audio clip of Jamie answering Stern’s gay jibes, but basically it boils down to this quote from Jamie: “I’m not gay…A lot of people say that I’m gay and that doesn’t bother me, because I could eat a pizza in a male shower and not feel anything because I’m secure with myself.” What the pizza shower what? I think the pizza shower thing must be on the cusp of the current gay culture, because I’ve never heard of it until now, and I really can’t wait to have this explained to me. What sex act is “pepperoni”? How about “extra cheese”? Do I not want to know?

Honestly, though, I think I understand what Jamie is trying to say, maybe. I think he’s saying that he could stand around eating pizza as he watched a lot of hot dudes get all sudsy and clean and lathered up and wet and bending over to pick over the soap… just thinking about it makes Jamie hungry. Hungry for pizza. Meat lovers pizza. And dick.

    Sausage? Pupperoni?

It has to be Meat Lover’s or something. Needless to say, he should have let that one go, because now he has everyone speculating about him and gay showers.

  2. I totally agree with your interpretation of Jamie’s remarks – however, let’s say the guy is gay, or bi, or whatever. WTF is wrong with Stern? People who listen to him are supporting a homophobic, media-culture driven asshole who thinks his opinions are valid. Calling Gaby fat? Wow, you’re so observant Howard! You’re so innovative, and, and, edgy!
Enough of this guy – his insults are not entertainment, they are hatred.

  3. Rianna says:

This is without a doubt the most crazy headline I have seen in a while. What has pizza and a men’s shower got to do with being gay? Thats like saying I’m not gay because I wear men’s pants while eating duck. The things are not connected lol!

  4. Kim says:

i know for certain that jamie is gay. a close friend of mine works for a major airline and few years ago, he and his friend were walking through lax. mind you, both of these men are quite obviously gay as well. while they were walking, they passed by jamie. after passing him, they felt a pair of eyes on them. they turned around and it was jamie. they walked back to jamie, exchanged numbers, and met up that night. the rest, let’s just say, is history.
now here is my point, if he is not willing to come out, he should just not even touch the subject. it’s offensive to those who are gay. it makes it as if he is ashamed. maybe it’s just the “pressure” in hollywood but still keep silent.
    just my thoughts…

LMFAO at the last paragraph, Kaiser!!! Thanks for getting me in a great mood to start the day! 🙂

  6. ogechi says:

    This guy is hot

  7. canadianchick says:

He’s hot and so talented. Don’t care if he’s on the down low or not. My guess is he’s bi. Mmm…now I want pizza and a shower.

  8. Roma says:

@Kim: I think there are a lot of those stories floating around, because I heard the same from a gay production assistant that worked on one of Jamie’s films.

I agree, gay/straight/bi it doesn’t matter – but if you are on the DL don’t go on record saying you aren’t gay as it’s disrespectful to those who are proud of their lifestyle.

Though I know a friend or two who truly believes it’s not actually gay if you’re the one receiving the mouth hug or pitching the game.

  9. Cinderella says:

C’mon Jamie. Ain’t no shame in it.

  10. Tia C says:

One of your funniest posts ever, Kaiser!!

I’ve always had mixed feelings about Jamie Foxx, and I’ve never been able to figure out why. I think he’s very talented – acting, singing, comedy – he’s very good at all of that. But there’s always been something about him that just irks me. It must be the closet. I agree with those that say it’s kind of disrespectful to the LGBT community to publicly lie and say you’re not gay or bi if you really are, and you KNOW you are. I mean, of course it’s personal choice if he wants to reveal it, but there’s something just kind of sleazy about hiding it. A man as successful as he is should have no shame in his game, lol!

  11. canadianchick says:

@roma rotfl re mouth hug and pitching the game, I learned something new today.

  12. Emily says:

Pizza showers aren’t a gay thing… Although there’s a chain of gay saunas in Melbourne (possibly elsewhere?) called Subway.

  13. Liz says:

I could care less whether Jamie is gay or not……….when did it become so impotant for us to know what someones sexual preference is?

  14. stephiespoons says:

Howard Stern never actually said that Jamie Foxx is gay. He said they weren’t “on the same team,” that’s all, the word “gay” never even came out of his mouth. Howard did say that he knew things about Jamie that he didn’t want to know, but, he didn’t say what exactly. It could be be anything. The media jumped on it and twisted it up to make it sound like Howard was inferring that Foxx is gay.

  15. Beck says:

He came to our local comedy club back when he was on In Living Color. There were stories about him trolling for guys after his shows. I don’t know if the stories were true but I always figured in was in the closet.

I hate hearing gay people lie about being gay. Or, pretend that they are straight when around other straight people. It irks me. I don’t care if they are straight or gay.

I don’t like Jamie Foxx, and I don’t find him attractive. I think it may be the arrogance.

  16. meme says:

another one who needs to give the Oscar back. one hit wonder

  17. Lux78 says:

Howard Stern is def not a homophobe, never has been never will be. I am a woman and have been listening to his show for over 10-years, and he is pro-gay rights, and has gay actors come in all the time. George Takei, from Star Trek is openly gay and on the Stern show co-hosting a few times a year. As for the Gaby Sidibe comments, he was just pointing out what we all know, there is no acceptance of non-Jessica Biel stick figures, that can count on ‘non-character’ roles in Hollywood. period. Look at this years cover of the Vanity Fair Hollywood issue. They put a Gossip Girl on 2-years in a row but they placed Gabby half way into the mag, when she showed more range and feeling than any one of those girls on that cover. This isn’t Howard talking he is just pointing out the obvious. We are the ones buying these movie tickets…this morning it was pointed out that in that awful Valentine’s Day movie Jessica Biel played a chocoholic girl that couldn’t get a date….riiiiiiggght.Even the ‘rejected’ have to be beautiful in Hollywood.

  18. Sarah says:

Although I can understand people finding it disrespectful for Foxx to deny it if he actually IS gay, I can understand — as a black man in the comic industry, coming out of the closet is something that could virtually destroy his career. Face facts, people — “coming out” drastically changes the roles you are offered, the people who support you, etc. When was the last time you saw Ellen in a role where she loved a man? When a celebrity stays in the closet, it’s not always just because they’re embarassed — it’s also to protect their ability to have a career.

  19. lucy2 says:

He’s not obligated to make his private life public in any way, so if he is gay and wants to stay closeted, that’s up to him. I don’t like people being forced into something they personally don’t want to do.
However, if he is closeted, I find it weird and/or foolish that he would be engaging Stern in this nonsense and drawing even more attention to it.

  20. Diva says:

I think Jamie Foxx just loves us all, lol, female, male, either/or, it’s all good to him.

And I think he’s pretty yummy.

I also think he’s far from a one hit wonder. While he may not have had some blockbuster movie again, yet, he’s a hell of an actor and has acted his pants off in more than just Ray.

  21. Milan says:

Meme. you’re just as daft as Jamie is, if not more. By your logic,Charlize, Halle, Catherine Zeta Jones, Renee Zelwegger should give back their oscars, they are all oscar one hit wonders. Please, talk sense next time, you’ve made me defend this pompous douchebag and i hate his guts. Thanks alot!

He was inferring Foxx is gay! How many other connotations does saying someone isn’t “on the same team” refer to???! I’ve only heard this term being used to imply homosexuality.

I happen to think Howard’s probably right. But more so, I think Howard is smart not to actually say the words. He’s avoiding a libel suit…

  23. ROXNOTFOX says:

    @ LUX78
I 100% agree! I too am female and have been listening to Howard since 2001. I’m sure dontevengot has never listened to Howard’s show a day in his or her life, which is true for most people who don’t like him. Most go by hearsay, not actual first hand knowledge

  24. eggy weggs says:

Kaiser, you are getting meaner day by day. I love it.

Howard Stern is not anti-gay. That said, he perpetuates that sort of “teehee, homos!” attitude in his listeners — many of whom do not know it’s a joke. I defend his right to say what he says, even though I’d sooner watch “The View” than listen to his moronic bitchiness.

  25. Sincerity says:

    @Sarah:

I couldn’t agree with you more! Whether Jamie Foxx is gay or not shouldn’t be an issue; however, public disclosure of being a homosexual would adversely affect his career and personal relationships. It’s no secret that homosexuality is frowned upon by many in the African American community. African Americans are more than likely the bulk of Jamie’s fan base and why should he jeopardize his livelihood. As long as he’s with another consenting adult, how he chooses “to get down” in the privacy of his own home is strictly his business. Jamie Foxx is an incredibly talented performer and I will pay to see his performances regardless of his sexuality. I’m an African American and who he sleeps with is not an issue with me.

  26. JuiceinLA says:

@Kim- you are dead wrong- and since your story is hearsay no one should give it any regard. Its not my style to address people negatively on this site, but the reason I am addressing you personally is that I hate people who claim to know some one who knows someone and then tell a story about it.

Unless you actually know Jamie Foxx and have had occasion to watch him date or have sex with a man, you have no idea what you are talking about.

  27. Mistral says:

I don’t think it is cool to expose people’s sexuality like that. I think Howard was out of line in this. While it is getting easier for GLBT people to be open with who they are, the industry is still not very open to them. They like their gays best when they are caricatures.

And never mind the industry (entertainment) that the man is trying to earn his livelihood in–society still isn’t completely accepting of homosexuality. Not every place in this world is New York City or San Francisco. It is pretty dangerous to be GLBT in many places in this world.

This time, I’ve got to say: Not cool, Howard, not cool…

  28. anon says:

So, the sixth grade teacher in me needs to point out that the speaker implies and the listener infers.

Sorry, I’ll stop being the grammar police now.

    Also, straight/gay/bi, he’s still hot.

  29. Emily says:

@Sarah: Neil Patrick Harris in HIMYM. Gay man playing the biggest womaniser ever. And I think Portia de Rossi was on Arrested Development after she came out. I could be wrong, I can’t be bothered checking it.

  30. stephiespoons says:

    @ Iggles,

Howard is a pretty moral guy (all things considering) and I don’t think he would out someone like that.

  31. abby says:

I believe that jamie said how “we’re all on the same team” or something like that, meaning they both work for xm/sirius. howard then said how he didn’t know what team he played for, that they didn’t play for the same team. you could interpret that in many different ways, and not just sexually.
