Amanda Peet welcomes her second daughter, Molly June

Berlinale 2010 - Please Give Screening

This is nice news today, although I’m sure everyone has already heard it: Amanda Peet gave birth on Tuesday, to her second daughter. Amanda and her husband David Benioff named their little girl Molly June Benioff. I like the name! Normal, yet not boring, with a touch of whimsy. Their 3-year old daughter’s names is Frances, but apparently everyone calls her Franny. Sidenote: When I was younger, I wanted to name my eventual daughter Franny because of the J.D. Salinger book. Amanda gave birth a little earlier than expected, and was scheduled to appear on David Letterman when she went into labor:

Amanda Peet ditched David Letterman on Tuesday for a good reason: She went into labor early and delivered daughter Molly June Benioff in New York.

The actress, 38, had been scheduled to appear on the Late Show with David Letterman to promote her upcoming film, Please Give, but instead welcomed her second child with screenwriter husband David Benioff late Monday, April 19.

“Mother and daughter are doing great,” Peet’s rep tells PEOPLE.

Peet and Benioff also have a 3-year-old daughter, Frances.

The star recently told PEOPLE she was excited to meet the family’s newest addition. “But there’s been a lot of fighting going on in my household over names,” she said. “Frankie is very excited. She just wants to call the baby Turtle.”

Peet’s film, Please Give, costarring Catherine Keener, opens in theaters April 30.

That’s good that she and the baby are fine. Honestly, I barely remembered that she was pregnant, though. Amanda’s been keeping a much lower profile lately, when I really had her tagged as one of the better actresses of her generation. And yet, somewhere along the line, I think Amanda kind of tagged as the poor man’s Jennifer Garner. They do look sort of similar, and they have a similar sort of wholesome, girl-next-door vibe. Anyway, congratulations to the happy family – and thanks for not actually naming the baby “Turtle”. You know Gwyneth is going to steal that name.

I find her husband very hot, in that slightly smarmy way that I like:

Deepest apologies to anyone with this name, but I HATE the name Molly. How boring. Oh well, at least she didn’t name her Pilot Inspektor or Apple.

I’ve always thought she was very pretty. I liked her on Studio 60 too, also canceled too soon.

My cat’s name is Molly! I think it’s a cute name.

Her husband kind of reminds me of Ralph Fiennes, but I’m not sure why.

  8. anon says:

I’ve always loved Amanda Peete (she’s gorgeous too!), and you’re so wrong for likening her to Jennifer Garner, Kaiser. And the budget version no less?!! Tccch. She’s a way better actress. I agree, her husband is hot, too!

  9. Ashley says:

Peet is a waaayyy better actress than Garner or should I say Vanilla. And much prettier. She has those amazing blue eyes.

  10. c says:

amanda peet is a lot prettier and more stylish than jen garner. i don’t really understand the comparison. movie-wise they don’t really do similar work either, other than romcoms, but even peet’s romcoms have a different vibe than jen’s- more indie, less hollywood.

if anything, she looks kind of like courteney cox.

“Her husband kind of reminds me of Ralph Fiennes, but I’m not sure why.”

It’s the eyes, very hooded and heavy.

My cat is a Molly too, but I love the name!

  12. Jeri says:

I’m another Amanda fan. Love her and she has beautiful babies. I don’t think of her as any type but I guess in Hollyweird you have to be classified.

  13. Boss says:

I don’t think Jennifer Gardner is at all attractive so I would never say anyone is a poor man’s JG. Amanda Peet looks great. There’s something very likable about her.

  14. terry says:

I’d like to father her next one if she and her hubby ever get divorced

  15. Zelda says:

Way to win at life this week, Amanda Peet.

I love the name Molly–in fact my daughter’s name is Molly Josephine and she is just an amazing girl–I think the name is whimsical and cute and has a sort of old fashioned energy to it

  24. tess says:

David Benioff is a fantastic writer. His latest book, City of Thieves was gripping. The 25th Hour was also rather compulsive reading.

  25. Camille says:

Didn’t even know she was preggers haha, but congrats to the family 🙂 .

  26. TG says:

@Tia C – I agree with many other posters on here. I think the name Molly is so cute and adorable and even good for grownups. But, you are entitled to your opinion and that is fine. But, we can all be grateful she didn’t pick some stupid hollweird name like Honor, Apple, and SJP’s twins, forgot their hideous names, and the list goes on and on.

  27. ceenitall says:

This is who should play Stephanie Plum!

  28. N says:

Obviously, I do not know her but she seems infinitely more real and hence, more appealing, than Jennifer Garner. I do not know why she has been keeping a lower profile, but I hope she finds her way back to shows/movies soon – she’s great in the roles she chooses…
