Johnny Knoxville showed his catheter on the Jimmy Kimmel show and described the stunt that nearly cost him his balls. He was filming a tribute to Evil Knevil and was trying to backflip a motorcycle. Even though he was warned ahead of time not to let go of the bike, he did and the thing came down hard between his legs, the handlebar even breaking off into his crotch. He said he felt like he was peeing after the accident, but it was blood instead. Luckily there was a waiting ambulance there.

Given some of the stunts these guys pull I’m surprised that nothing worse has happened to them. I can’t really tolerate this show, but I happened to watch some of the Jackass movie on TV and Steve O was hanging on a rope over a crocodile pit with some raw meat stuffed into his underwear. The guy was laughing maniacally and he didn’t seem like he was all there. Johnny Knoxville, on the other hand, is oddly attractive to me. He told Kimmel that he got shit from his girlfriend after this stunt, and that he’s “much more scared of her than I am that motorcycle or the ramp.”

Thanks to commentor StellaPurdy for noting that the gross overdose of the blood thinner Heparin that could have killed or seriously injured Dennis Quaid’s 12-day-old twins is not the first time that premature babies have been put in severe life-threatening danger from that specific medical error. Apparently Heparin is packaged in such a way that makes it very difficult to distinguish between adult and infant doses of the medicine, which look almost identical.

This case is similar to a September, 2006 incident at an Indianapolis hospital in which three premature infants died after given gross overdoses of Heparin:

The baby girl, Thursday Dawn Jeffers, died late Tuesday at Riley Hospital for Children five days after she was born at Methodist Hospital. She had been transferred to Riley once her condition worsened from receiving an adult dose of heparin, a drug routinely given to premature babies…

Two other girls, D’myia Sabrina Nelson and Emmery Miller, both less than a week old, died Saturday at Methodist’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

They were given the drug, which is often used to prevent blood clots that could clog intravenous tubes, after a pharmacy technician accidentally stored adult doses in the neonatal unit’s drug cabinet. Three other babies who also received too-strong doses were still in critical condition because they are premature but were not considered in danger from the overdoses, said Methodist Hospital spokesman Jon Mills.

Unlike this sad case in Indiana, there have been no fatalities from this error at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA. Quaid’s twins are listed in stable condition, after being given medication to combat the effects of the heparin.

The Chief Medical Officer at Cedars-Sinai has issued a statement saying that seven patients were given the incorrect dose, and that only two patients, presumed to be Quaid’s twins, were adversely affected. They are said to be fine now:

Additional medical tests and clinical evaluation conducted on the two patients indicated no adverse effects from the higher concentration of heparin or from the temporary abnormal clotting function. Doctors continue to monitor the patients.

Medical errors in which mistaken doses are given and/or in which one package is confused with another that looks similar are common and can be deadly.

In 2005, Duke University hospital surgeons used tainted instruments that had been washed in used hydraulic fluid from the elevators instead of detergent for weeks. A technician had drained the fluid into empty detergent bottles and had placed them by the dumpster, where they were mistaken for detergent and returned to wash instruments. Dozens of patients suffered extreme lasting health problems from the error.

Dennis Quaid’s 12 day old newborn twins were the victims of an egregious hospital mistake. Little Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace were given one thousand times the regular dose of the blood thinner heparin not once but over two days in a gross oversight that could kill them. They are said to be in stable condition, so let’s hope they recover and suffer no long-term effects from this terrible case of hospital error:

TMZ has learned that Dennis Quaid’s newborn twins are fighting for their lives after being inadvertently overdosed at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Sources tell us the twins — Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace — were accidentally given a massive does of Heparin, an anti-coagulant. Babies typically get 10 units. Our sources says they were each mistakenly given 10,000 units. The drug is used to flush out IV lines and prevent blood clots. We’re told one dose was given on Sunday morning, another on Sunday evening.

We’re told late Sunday night, both babies started to “bleed out.” Both babies are now at Cedars in the neo-natal intensive care unit where we’re told they are stable.

A recent study suggests that nearly 200,000 people die each year in US hospitals from “preventable medical errors,” which is more than the number of people who die from breast and lung cancer combined . If those are the number that died, just think of how many countless more people must be seriously injured due to common errors like the one that happened to Dennis Quaid’s babies twice.

Ironically Quaid does work with the charity “International Hospital for Children in New Orleans” in which he helps build medical clinics in Central America, bringing some children back to the U.S. for treatment they cannot get at home.

Brad Pitt and Matt Damon are said to have send their Ocean’s co-star George Clooney a “get well soon” present after his motorcycle mishap in New Jersey late last month. The pair didn’t send a bouquet of flowers or a sappy card, they sent over a gag gift that made fun of his accident. Since neither Clooney or his girlfriend of the moment, Sarah Larson, were seriously injured, it doesn’t sound that tasteless and I could see it happening:

Sympathetic buddies Brad Pitt and Matt Damon sent over a care package [to Clooney] containing a yellow plastic crash helmet topped by a flashing red light - and a beat-up leather jacket festooned with rips and skid marks. With all the pranks that Clooney likes to pull, and the way these three banter on The Oceans movies, I’m inclined to believe this story. Still, it would require a certain amount of coordination between Damon and Pitt to both sign the card within a short period of time. While Pitt was in NY at the time working on the same movie as Clooney, the last I heard of Damon he was back in Miami. It would be a more likely story if just one of them sent the gift.

Meanwhile Clooney and Pitt weren’t able to attend the American Cinematheque Awards on Friday, where their Oceans costar Julia Roberts was honored, but they did send over a funny video to add to the tribute.

In the clip, Clooney and Pitt run into each other in the bathroom, and Pitt’s foot is shown tapping in Clooney’s stall. This sounds pretty funny and I hope it “leaks” online:

In Clooney’s video, Roberts’ “Ocean’s Twelve” co-star was shown “hiding from fans” in a public bathroom stall. He suddenly feels a foot tapping his, a la Idaho Sen. Larry Craig. When he jumps out to see who’s in the next stall, he finds Pitt, who cries, “I have a wide stance!”

Hopefully someone will come up with a better venue for this team than the Oceans movies. They were slick and fun, but they lacked a certain substance and the plots were hard to follow. Still, I would pay to see Clooney, Pitt and Damon read the phone book. They would have to be shirtless, though, with some homo-eroticism thrown in for good measure.

TMZ has a video that they promise to post shortly of Orlando Bloom getting out of his car after he crashed into a parked Porsche and trying to leave the scene. He walked down the street looking like he was about to ditch the two women who were injured in the car he was driving, and the paparazzi who were filming the incident advised him to go back and “deal with it.” He turned around and returned to the accident. It is unknown whether any of the women were sent to the hospital and the details are still sketchy.

One of the two female passengers in Bloom’s car had a fractured neck as a result of the early morning smash up, and the other woman was cut by her seat belt, according to TMZ.

It doesn’t sound like the accident was Bloom’s fault, as it is reported that another car cut him off and prompted him to swerve and crash into the parked car. It also looks like a fender bender as opposed to a major accident. The picture of the car he hit just shows some dents and not a lot of body damage.

Cops claim Bloom wasn’t under the influence of drugs or alcohol but no one is saying if they administered a breathalyser or field sobriety test. A video on TMZ of Bloom just before the accident has him fighting with a guy in a car before he leaves to head to the vehicle he crashed 15 minutes later.

Orlando Bloom has had an eventful few days. Earlier in the week he was declared an item with Australian model Miranda Kerr after they were said to be “house hunting” together. Kerr denied a relationship with Bloom, saying “We’re just friends. We actually ran into each other by coincidence and then someone took a photo, turning a molehill into a mountain.”

Then Bloom was said to be Jessica Simpson’s latest conquest when the two tried to keep a low profile at an event on Wednesday night, showing up and leaving together.

Now Bloom’s romance-filled week has been tempered by a minor car accident. The details are not fully known yet, but TMZ reports that he was in a collision at 2:15 AM this morning in LA. He was driving a black Toyota Matrix owned by a friend that collided with a Porsche Cayenne. The accident seems to be minor as both cars are said to be in ok shape. They report that “at least one person suffered minor injuries” and that a bloody rag was seen near the crash.

We’ll have to wait and see what news comes out in this case today. Hopefully Orlando wasn’t driving drunk and no one suffered more than superficial injuries. Orlando was seen arguing with a man outside a restaurant earlier in the night, but that may be unrelated.

More details have come out about George Clooney’s motorcycle accident in New Jersey a week and a half ago. Clooney and his girlfriend of the moment, Sarah Larson, a 28 year-old former cocktail waitress were thrown from his Harley Davidson after a collision with a car.

A witness tells The National Enquirer that Clooney kept his cool and was careful to tell Larson not to move after the accident. This is key in the case of a potential spinal injury and if their injuries were worse Clooney’s advice could have saved her from being paralyzed:

“I saw the bike hit the curb, and then Clooney and girl hit the ground. If they hadn’t been wearing helmets, they would have been killed instantly,” eyewitness David Sciumbata told The Enquirer.

“They were pinned under the bike, and it looked like her leg had been crushed.”

David, a guitarist, watched the mishap from his front proch in Weehawken, N.J., around 3 p.m. on Sept. 21. He called an ambulance and then rushed to aid the couple.

“Clooney was clearly in pain, but he kept asking the girl about her spine,” David said. “He was afraid she might have been paralyzed.

“He tried to keep her clam. I heard him say ‘Please don’t move. You are going to be fine. I don’t want you to move your leg or your back.”

Clooney did absolutely the right thing. Medline says that “If you are in doubt about whether a person has a spinal injury, assume that he or she DOES have one” and that you should not move a person after an accident unless it is absolutely necessary as in the case of getting them out of a burning vehicle.

Both Clooney and Larson escaped from the accident with minor injuries after being treated at a nearby hospital. Larson suffered a broken toe while Clooney fractured a rib and had road rash.

Clooney was quite level-headed and smart to tell Larson not to move and to stay calm after the accident. As much as I like to rip on Clooney for being an incurable womanizer, he gets points for this one. There was a report in a NJ paper that claims he also told he loved her in the moments after the accident.

Clooney and Larson are still together, and she was seen hobbling outside of his hotel in NY on crutches for a night out on the town last night. In one picture he’s shown smoothing her hair or picking something off her face. Her eyes are closed and she’s clearly relishing the attention. Thanks to Splash News for those pictures.

Man, the gavel of justice is really coming down hard on celebrities lately. Not that that’s a bad thing – it’s a good thing that they’re being held accountable for their actions like the rest of us. Well, that they’re at least increasingly being held accountable. It’s not great that celebrities, young and old, seem to be getting into a lot of trouble lately. But let’s be honest – we hope they live and all, but it’s all right when they add a little drama to our lives. Better they end up in rehab than us, am I right? Is that silence? Okay it’s just me then. Carrying on. George Clooney might be joining the ranks of Britney, Paris, and Lindsay. Yes, it’s the long, bleached blond hair, but he also might see himself in a criminal court of law soon. As Celebitchy reported, Clooney crashed his motorcycle on Friday in Weehaweken, New Jersey. He said that a car cut him off by making a right turn from the left lane, but the other driver said it was Clooney who was driving erratically.

“Lucky to be alive, Hollywood actor George Clooney could face dangerous driving charges in connection with the motorcycle crash he and his girlfriend were involved in on Friday. According to Weehawken Police Sergeant Sean Kelly, Clooney might have caused his New Jersey accident by attempting to pass a car which tried to take a right hand turn from the left lane. ‘It’s a he-said, she-said right now, but you can’t pass on the right in Weehawken or anywhere in Jersey,’ Kelly said. ‘If he was passing on the right, that’s a moving violation,’ Hudson County Prosecutor Ed Defazio said yesterday.

“While the Mazda driver, identified as Sciancaledore, 27, insists it was Clooney’s fault, the actor’s publicist said ‘The car signaled left. George was riding to the right. The driver decided to make an abrupt right turn and clipped George.’ Sciancalepore was fined for not having his registration with him at the time of the accident, Weehawken Public Safety Director Jeff Welz said.”

I’m guessing no matter what happens, Clooney will end up in court on the business end of a lawsuit. I’m sure while that other guy was being rammed, he had little dollar signs floating out of his ears. Probably dreaming about Clooney’s famed Lake Como estate, which will now be the guy’s summer home.

The only happy thing about this story? This sentence: “The 46-year-old star suffered a fractured rib while his 28-year-old girlfriend, a former reality TV contestant and cocktail waitress, broke at least two tows.” Yes that’s right, poor George Clooney’s girlfriend broke her tows. Now I don’t know how big her feet would have to be two support at least two tows. She might have more than two, we only know for sure that two were broken. All five of her toes might actually be tows, for all we know. But can you imagine the snowshoe-sized footwear this woman must have to lug around to hide her two tows? That’s probably what really caused the accident. George Clooney’s girlfriend’s tows threw off the motorcycle’s center of gravity.

George Clooney, 46, and his new girlfriend Sarah Larson, a 28 year-old cocktail waitress and former Fear Factor winner that he met in Vegas, were in an accident on Friday when a car hit the motorcycle they were on. Clooney had a small fracture on one of his ribs and road rash while his girlfriend’s foot was broken. She also had some cuts on her face.

Clooney and his girlfriend were in Weehawken, NJ for some reason, and a car in the left lane is said to have tried to make a right turn and to have cut them off, causing the accident.
While Clooney says the other driver, a 27 year-old guy in a 1999 Mazda Millenia, sped up and tried to pass him before making a right turn, the other guy says that Clooney was trying to pass cars in the right lane and that’s what caused the accident.

Clooney’s girlfriend was taken to the hospital by ambulance while he followed on his bike. Both were treated in North Bergen, NJ at Palisades Medical Center.

People Magazine reports that Clooney is in NY filming a new movie, Burn After Reading. It is not known exactly what they were doing in Jersey.

Now that Clooney and his girl had a near-death encounter, maybe he’ll change his ways and actually commit to her longer than his three month cut off period. It’s possible he realizes that time is short and that he’s getting old.

I’m glad that they’re both ok and that they didn’t suffer more serious injuries. Motorcycles are a lot of fun and there’s a definite feeling of freedom that you get while riding, but they’re also incredibly dangerous and need to be handled with care.

Britney Spears has been formally charged for the August 6th fender bender she caused in a parking lot. Multiple paparazzi filmed and photographed the incident, in which Britney rammed her car into the side of a parked Mercedes station wagon. She got out afterwards and looked at her own car to assess the damage, but didn’t think twice about the other person’s car or look at it and she definitely didn’t leave a note. Here’s the video of the hit and run if you didn’t see it the first time.

The woman whose car that was even told the press that she was never contacted by Britney or her people. Now, at the worst time for Britney, although pretty much any time in the last 6-8 months could have been considered the worst time for her, she’s being charged with a hit and run causing property damanage for that fender bender. No one was hurt or anything, but she was incredibly careless and self-centered, and as JayBird wrote at the time she should have realized she wouldn’t get away with it.

Well, she didn’t, and she also didn’t get away with driving without a license on top of that. She doesn’t have a license to drive in the state of California, where she’s lived for years. It is unknown if she has a license in Louisiana, but if she did have one at some point it’s surely expired by now.

Both the hit and run and driving without a license charges are misdemeanors, and she could get up to six months in jail for each. It’s doubtful she’ll see the inside of a prison no matter how much we’re praying for it, though.

Spears was seen in tears entering her latest lawyer’s office Friday afternoon after she learned of the charges. She will be arraigned on October 10th.

Britney may as well just order up a few pitchers of frozen margaritas, pop a couple Xanax (thanks Diva) and settle in. She’s got a lot of things weighing on her and probably just wants to be comfortable and oblivious in that giant hole she’s dug for herself. There’s a rumor that she’s being urged to go back to rehab, but given her attitude about the last time she was in I doubt that’s going to happen.
