Maggie Gyllenhaal is playing Katie Holmes’ old character on the latest Batman sequel, The Dark Knight, which is filming now. Hair-challenged Heath Ledger (not that there’s anything wrong with that, shave it off though and work The Bruce instead of The Donald) is playing villian Joker, but he was a hero on set when he saved Maggie when her clothes accidentally caught fire.

There were pyrotechnics as part of a scene they were filming, and the machine creating the fire fell over and Maggie’s skirt caught on fire. Heath jumped on top of her to put out the fire. This story sounds somewhat plausible except for the ending, which is cheesy to say the least:

Heath Ledger… jumped in to save the day when co-star Maggie Gyllenhaal’s clothes caught fire on the set of the Batman sequel, “The Dark Knight!” The scary accident occurred during a scene where The Joker confronts Maggie’s dishy district attorney character - and a pyrotechnics display suddenly explodes behind him, sending fireworks rocketing high into the air. Instead, the special effects generator toppled over - and balls of flame jetted at Maggie, who screamed as sparks set her skirt ablaze!

Quicker than you can say: “Holy fireworks, Batmant,” Heath threw himself on top of Maggie and pushed her down, smothering the flames with his body. Crewmembers raced to the rescue, but Heath was already helping shaken Maggie up, checking her charred skirt for stray sparks. “I’m fine,” she reassured everyone - then thanked Heath with a peck on the cheek. Snarked the macho star: “I got a better kiss from your brother!”

There seems to be a hero story every week in that guy Mike Walker’s column in The Enquirer, so I’m not entirely convinced this is true. There are two famous people involved and it happened on a crowded set, so it seems more likely in that it’s a verifiable incident.

If so, it’s a damn good story, especially with the bit about Heath telling Maggie that her brother was a better kisser! That’s priceless.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has said that she’s going to play Holmes’ former character as herself and that ““I’m not walking into Katie Holmes’ performance. I’m thinking of it as an opportunity to play somebody who’s alive and smart. Chris (Nolan the director) asked me to do this because he wanted me, not because he wants some generic lady in a dress.” It sounds like a dig at Katie Holmes to me. I wonder what would have happened if her skirt caught on fire. One of her Scientology minders would have probably been there with a hose and then given her some vitamins to cure the burn.

Prison Break star Lane Garrison has been sentenced to 90 days in state prison for evaluation by state officials and experts to see if he can be put on probation rather than face extended jail time for a DUI crash last December, in which a 17 year-old boy he had just met died after Garrison’s car hit a tree. Garrison’s blood alcohol level was .20 that night and he tested positive for cocaine. Garrison was doing 40 in a 25 mph zone before the accident.

In May, Garrison entered a guilty plea for DUI and vehicular manslaughter. The judge has delayed official sentencing, and says he must have 90 days of “diagnostic” evaluation.

Depending on the outcome of the evaluation, Garrison could get up to six years and eight months in jail.

While Garrison says the teens approached him at a grocery store to buy them alcohol, two of the surviving witnesses in the car, 15 year-old Michelle Ohana and Chen Sagi, testified he was the one who offered to buy them booze first.

The teens then took Garrison to a party, where he was said to reveal a bottle of Grey Goose vodka “with a flourish.” According to witnesses, Garrison did several shots at the party, and went out with the two girls he met at the grocery store to get more alcohol. They are said to have been concerned that he was too drunk to drive, and to have asked their friend, 17 year-old Vahagn Setian, to accompany them. It was during that drive that Garrison lost control of his 2001 Range Rover, killing Setian and seriously injuring the two other passengers.

At the trial, Garrison made a public apology to the family of the young man he killed, looking right at them and saying “No family should have to sit where you are sitting…. I just want to apologize to you guys and the court, and to every young person that’s here.” [Most details from LA Times.]

Garrison also recorded a tearful Public Service announcement, in which he appeared truly sorry and upset over the death he caused.

The family of the man whose life was so carelessly cut short were understandably unimpressed. Setian’s father said “There can be no doubt … he is reckless, he is careless, and above all, he is selfish.” He also said that Garrison could have apologized right away, but he took his time about it and did not do it in person.

Setian also said that Garrison is an actor, and that the public service announcement pissed him off. “He is an actor. He is acting. He killed a human being and he killed our son.” [Details from TMZ]

There were about 12 friends and relatives of slain 17 year-old Vahagn Setian at Garrison’s court hearing yesterday wearing T-shirts with Vahagn’s picture on them. The shirts had a James Dean quote on the back “Dream as if you’ll live forever, live as if you’ll die today”

It is possible that the judge was persuaded to take his time in sentencing by the impassioned letters written to him by Garrison and his younger sister, Amelia. Amelia described a horrific childhood with Lane, in which their father was either drunk and abusive or absent, and their mother was usually in the hospital. Both of their parents are now deceased, and Garrison’s sister says she would not be where she is today were it not for her caring brother. She now works for a producer at Walt Disney studios.

Amelia begged the judge not to send him away for a long time and said that Garrison was “despondent” and “near suicidal” after the accident.

Garrison’s letter to the judge is similarly moving. He said that he takes full responsibility for the accident and that he is “ashamed” and “enternally sorry.” He said “My heart breaks for the suffering they [the Setians] are forced to endure because of my atrocious actions.”

In his concluding paragraph he says he prays all the time and hopes that somehow he can ease the Setian’s pain. He also prays that the judge “can see my true character, heart and who I really am, not the character I portrayed on tv or who the media has deemed I am.” He says he is “extremely remorseful and grieving” and that he realizes “what horrible, inexcusable mistakes he made that night.” [Details from PDF files available on TMZ]

The guy really does sound devastated by what happened, but he killed someone while driving drunk with young passengers in his car. Jail time seems necessary and warranted in this case. It’s a sad story all around and a real lesson that there’s never a reason to drive after you’ve been drinking.

I was really hoping to ignore Britney, Lohan and Paris for as long as possible, but when their hectic lives are filled with such gossip-worthy tidbits it’s hard to resist. You’ll forgive me for indulging today, and we’ll have to see where the site heads in terms of paying attention to the three disgraces in the future.

Britney was staying at a Las Vegas resort with her two boys and was asked to leave after her bodyguard got into a fight with a photographer. It sounds like the photographer is claiming that the bodyguard beat him up and accidentally hit little Sean Preston, while Britney is claiming that another photographer hit her bodyguard and is the one who hit the boy. Whatever happened, there was a fight and Sean Preston was injured.

Britney’s bodyguard, a guy curiously named Julio Camera, ironically seems to hate paparazzi and probably pulled a Mickey Brett on one of the photographers who constantly follow Britney. Like moths are attracted to light, the paparazzi follow those nip, crotch and ass slips and you can hardly blame them for tailing Britney all day. According to the partner of the photographer, who witnessed the incident, the photographer got too close to Britney’s older child, Sean Preston, and “Camera” shoved the guy, accidentally hitting Sean Preston. (I’ll include quotation marks around Camera’s name from now on as it’s confusing when there’s also a photographer involved.)

Then the bodyguard, “Camera,” got really incensed and starting beating up the photographer, even though he was the one who started it. It’s nice to know Britney surrounds herself with reasonable people to balance out her craziness.

The way that US Weekly describes it is confusing, but after this happened Britney filed a police report against a different photographer, claiming he assaulted her bodyguard and battered her child (it was not stated that it was SP). “Camera,” Britney’s bodyguard, was the one who was charged with battery by the police. It sounds like there was a fight and that Sean Preston was injured.

A photographer who was shooting Spears vacationing with her two children at the resort claims that earlier today, Camera shoved his partner in the chest and accidentally hit toddler Sean Preston in the process.

The photographer then alleges that Spears started yelling while Camera tackled his partner to the ground and began punching. He claims that after Wynn security asked all parties involved to leave, the Las Vegas police were called to take statements.

Sgt. Loretto of the Las Vegas Police Department tells Usmagazine.com that Camera has been issued a citation for misdemeanor battery. Meanwhile, Loretto says that Spears has filed an allegation of battery on behalf of Sean Preston against photographer Kyle Henderson.

Spears’ battery allegation remains under investigation, with Vegas police issuing the following statement: “A second Incident Crime Report was also filed by Ms. Spears on behalf of her minor child. In that report it was alleged that prior to the above incident a second photographer, identified as Kyle Henderson, battered both Mr. Camera and Ms. Spears’ child , who was at that time being held by the security officer.”

Britney was kicked out of that resort in Vegas after being there for less than a day, and is probably not welcome back.

Meanwhile Britney’s Vegas trip might have been the last straw in her custody battle. K-Fed was said to have visited a lawyer to see if her recent antics on the OK! Magazine photo shoot could be used against her in the divorce proceedings. Now that she jetted off to Vegas, violating her custody agreement, Life and Style reports that his lawyer ordered her to return to LA immediately and that her custody could be in jeopardy.

If it was just Britney involved, it would be laughable and more of the same for this messed-up woman, but the sad thing is that her kids are being affected all too seriously by this. Even though the tendency is to find her at fault somehow, you can’t blame her though I guess if it was someone else fighting. I hope Sean Preston wasn’t hurt too badly. There was no mention of medical attention or a hospital, so hopefully his injuries were minor.

TMZ is at the forefront of investigative journalism yet again and is featuring interviews with the three guys who were unwilling passengers in the car with Lohan the night she was arrested for DUI. The three witnesses detail the night in question, and it’s apparent that not only did Lohan drive drunk in a car that wasn’t hers, she put countless people’s lives at risk and ignored repeated pleas to get her to slow down, let out the passengers, and/or listen to reason. Several times she repeated the claim that she was a celebrity and above the law. She ran stop signs and stop lights, did circles around the car she was chasing on the Pacific Coast Highway, and could have killed herself, any or all of the passengers in her car as well as multiple other drivers and/or pedestrians. Given the way she was driving recklessly and how wasted she was it’s a wonder that the worst injury was a hurt foot. This woman needs to go to jail for at least a month for this stunt, the second time she was busted for DUI in less than three months.

Here is the whole sordid tale, as told by the three passengers in the car in the interview videos available on TMZ.

Lohan lures her prey
On the night in question Dante Nigro, a friend of the boyfriend of Linday’s assistant, was texted by the assistant that Lindsay wanted to invite him to a party in Malibu. (It does not seem as if the party was at Lindsay’s house, as was previously reported, and sounds like it was somewhere else from the statements given.) Dante’s friends Jakon Sutter and Robbie Blake came with him to the party, but were not allowed in so they waited outside in Dante’s car.

Dante said Lohan was drinking at the party and that he did a shot with her. He said “every time I saw her she had a drink in her hand.”

Lohan’s assistant fights with her boyfriend then quits her job when Lohan yells at her
He said there was “a confrontation outside between [Lindsay’s] assistant and [the assistant’s] boyfriend… They get into some sort of, like a verbal argument, I don’t know, basically he’s our friend and he wants to leave, and so there’s this whole big mess and Lindsay comes out of the house and she starts yelling at her assistant saying ‘You know, you need to be quiet, blah blah blah’ and that’s when her assistant is like ‘You what know, I quit, I’m done, I don’t even care, I’m over working for you’… everyone heard her.”

Dante and his friend Ronnie Blake answered the interviewer’s question about how drunk Lohan was and said she looked really inebriated. Ronnie says “I don’t know what kind of drugs she was on, but she was raging and seemed real crazy like she lost her mind.”

All three guys agree that she was acting wild and aggressive. Then Dante explains how they ended up passengers in Lohan’s crazy mobile. He says that the three of him were in his car, and that he was riding shotgun and their friend, the boyfriend of Lohan’s assistant, was about to drive. The assistant Tarin pulled him out though and ran to her car to drive away.

Lohan grabs the keys to the guy’s car and drives away with three people in it. One guy escapes and Lohan runs over his foot
Lindsay then reached over Dante in the passenger seat and pulled the key out of his ignition. She jumped into the drivers seat and started to chase after Tarin’s car. Ronnie was in the back and he jumped out of the moving car. Lindsay ran over his foot with the car, and didn’t even stop! He shows a bandaged foot and says he doesn’t know if Lindsay knew she ran over him, although he was screaming at the car. He then got help from the assistant’s boyfriend, who was there with him at the side of the road.

Lohan chases her assistant recklessly, resists repeated attempts to get her to stop or slow down, keeps insisting she’s a celebrity and can do whatever she wants
Dante grabbed the wheel and put his hand on the parking brake to try and get Lindsay to stop driving and she said “if you touch me, I’ll sue you!” The other guy left in the car, Jakon, says they were pleading with her to pull over and that she was going 100 MPH on the Pacific Coast Highway. He said Lindsay was doing circles around the assistant’s car on the PCH! They said Lohan did three circles around the assistant’s car and was running red lights.

Dante said he told her “you’re going to kill us,” and she said “I can’t get in trouble, I’m a celebrity, I can do whatever the fuck I want.”

Assistant loses Lohan, so she goes to the assistant’s mother’s house and chases the mother’s car
The assistant eventually lost them in Santa Monica. Lindsay decided the assistant was going to her mother’s house, and she started running stop signs in an attempt to get there as quick as possible and almost got in a head-on collision. Right when they pulled up to the assistant’s mother’s house, another car, a black Escalade, was pulling into the driveway. It was the assistant’s mother’s car. Dante ran out of the car and said he wanted to tell Tarin to get out of her car and not drive anymore.

Dante ran back to the car, with the intent of throwing it into park to protect his friend in the back. At that point the Escalade driven by the assistant’s mother was driving backwards down the street to escape Lindsay, and Dante was back in the car.

The Escalade got away and Lohan sped down the street going 80 chasing after it in a residential zone. She ran every red light possible, crossing four way intersections. The two guys kept pleading with her and she said “I can do whatever I want, you want to see?”

Assistant’s mother leads Lindsay’s car to the police station
Then Dante realized that the assistant’s mother’s car was leading them to the police station in Santa Monica, and he told her about it. She said “I don’t care I’m a celebrity, I can get away with whatever, I’m not going to get in trouble.” Dante swears she said this when the interviewer questioned him about it.

And Dante says she threatened them earlier, saying if they came forward with any of this information something would happen to them, like she would sue them.

Lohan says “I wasn’t driving, the black guy was driving,” but was found out and taken in after failing the field sobriety test
They ended up at the parking lot at the police station, and Lindsay got out of the car, ignored the cops that were there specifically to apprehend her, acted like nothing was wrong and went up to the Escalade. The cops arrested her, and she said “I wasn’t driving, the black guy was driving.” They say she was yelling at them saying “Tell them I wasn’t driving. Tell them I didn’t do anything.”

The cops then question Jakon and he maintained that he wasn’t driving. They gave Lohan the field sobriety test and she failed. The two guys that could have easily been killed on that long and scary car chase were only allowed to leave after the Escalade got a police escort out, as the assistant’s mother was scared that she will still be chased despite the fact that Lindsay had been apprehended.

They then went back to pick up their friend Ronnie, who was still nursing his hurt foot at the side of the road on the Pacific Coast Highway. The assistant’s boyfriend was also still with him.

Conclusion: Lock her up
The guys said they feared for their life, that this was the craziest ride they’ve ever been on, and that Lohan was unrepentant and acted as if she didn’t do anything wrong. They said “definitely if that was us, we would be in jail right now, we definitely wouldn’t get bail.”

As I mentioned in the introduction, this is outrageous and Lohan needs to go away for quite a while. Two stints in rehab didn’t help this self-centered and careless woman, and I don’t know if jail will either, but at least she’ll pay for her actions.

Hollyscoop has an exclusive that Lindsay is broke, having wasted all her money on drugs. Well now she’ll have some huge lawyer bills and hopefully she won’t be employed for a very long time. While her career prospects seemed better to me before hearing this story, now I hope she’s burned all of her chances at any kind of music or movie career. Sound harsh? So is killing people. Everyone knows you’re not supposed to get behind the wheel when you’ve been drinking, and no matter how much your judgment is impaired there’s no excuse. She took these guys hostage and told them to suck it when they told her she could end up killing them. She needs to go to jail.

Radar has an article detailing the way that Lohan’s alcohol-detecting ankle bracelet worked, and it was functioning on the night that she was pulled over for DUI. The thing is, it only transmits information back to the monitoring company when she’s in range of the transmitting device - which was in her home. If she’s out, or if she stays somewhere else for days, it will just look like she’s not home and no data will be sent about her level of drunkenness or sobriety. What’s more is that as a voluntary wearer of the device Lohan can state who gets sent the reports from the company, if anyone, and she’s not required to send back data with any level of frequency. In other words, the thing was just for show:

But Radar has learned that the device registered Lindsay’s drinking exactly as it was supposed to. “We’re very confident that it was working properly,” says SCRAM spokesperson Kathleen Brown. “In fact there are a number of diagnostics that ensure it.” But even though the bracelet registered the actress’s drinking, it isn’t designed to transmit that information on the spot. Instead it works in tandem with a modem, which is placed in Lohan’s home. Meaning Linds could have attend the binge drinking party of the century, but as long as she stayed far enough away from the modem, the proper authorities would be none the wiser until (and if) she stumbled home.

Who are these proper authorities? They’re whoever Lindsay and her representatives wanted them to be. Brown notes that Lohan chose to wear the bracelet voluntarily, a gesture adopted by many people arrested for DUI in order to show good faith to the court. Maybe when Lohan returned home and her lawyer or mom was notified that she had been drinking, action would have been taken. Or maybe not. As it turns out, there’s no guarantee of accountability when someone voluntarily wears a SCRAM, there’s only good PR.

She seems even more devious to me now, and I bet there was more than just Coke and Red Bull in those drinks she had constantly in hand while she was out partying after rehab. It’s possible she wasn’t drinking until that night, though. TMZ reports that her lawyer was notified by the device that Lohan was drunk, but she wasn’t able to get to her in time.

Meanwhile more details have come out about the night of Lindsay’s arrest if you’re interested. As has been already reported, she either fired her assistant Tarin or the woman quit. Lindsay followed her in her car after they had an argument, and there were two other people in the car with Lindsay. Tarin’s mother called the cops and said someone was chasing her. It sounds to me like Lindsay was chasing the assistant and the paparazzi were chasing Lindsay, but that is unclear.

The cops came and there were a bunch of people in the parking lot. They focused on Lindsay. As for the cocaine found on Lindsay, her friends claim she was wearing someone else’s pants!

Lindsay’s mom Dina didn’t rush to be by her side right away as she has to appear in court on Friday and Monday for the ongoing custody battle with her ex. She was in constant contact with Lindsay after her arrest.

It is thought that Lindsay will join her mother in NY at some point. People were seen piling boxes of stuff into an SUV outside of Lindsay’s place. She is said to be in rehab at an undisclosed location.

As much as it pains me, there’s too much Lohan news today after her big arrest to ignore. I’ll attempt to cram as much of it as possible into one post, and spare you the bullshit updates that are sure to come later in the day.

People are talking about Lohan’s dysfunctional family, including the reactions of her estranged parents, what possible jail time Lohan faces on this her second DUI arrest in under three months, and how this will affect her ailing film career. There are also all these details to clarify about what actually happened that night in terms of the car chase and the assistant who either quit or was fired. I’ll cover all these points while rolling my eyes and shaking my head.

The reaction of Lohan’s family
Lohan’s father, who got out of jail on multiple assault and his own DUI charges this March after serving less than two years out of a four year sentence, is taking advantage of this opportunity to get paid for interviews.

As part of the court ruling during his custody battle for Lohan’s mom over their two younger kids he is not allowed to have any contact with Lindsay. He certainly can talk about her though. He told TMZ that he wanted to put aside differences with Lindsay’s mother so that they could work together to help their troubled eldest child:

“I want to withdraw everything — court wise — sit down with Dina as Lindsay’s parents and figure out how to help her. Lindsay can’t do this on her own … when we were together, none of this was happening.”

He also told People Magazine he was “heartbroken” and “devastated” and said “It’s killing me, it’s ripping me apart.”

Meanwhile White Oprah has been criticized for not flying to be by Lindsay’s side immediately on learning about her latest DUI bust. She’s also predictably talking to the news outlets, and gave The Insider an exclusive interview that probably earned her a few designer outfits:

“We are doing everything in our power in support of Lindsay and I won’t give up – this is my daughter and we love her,” Dina Lohan tells The Insider.

The actress was arrested early Tuesday morning on suspicion of drunken driving – her second drinking-related arrest in three months. She was booked for DUI, possession of cocaine, transporting a narcotic into a custody facility and driving on a suspended license, according to police.

“I am sick over this,” Dina says. “My children, my family, we are like prisoners in our own home because paparazzi [are stalking us] outside [our] home. Lindsay is in a safe place, and we are trying to strategically work out our next step.”

It looks like Dina had some recent work done on her face, so maybe she was recovering and that explains why she couldn’t jet out to help Lindsay right away.

Possible jail time for Lindsay
Lindsay has both court appearances for her separate DUIs scheduled for August 24. It is unknown if this was deliberate or not on the part of the judge setting the date for her second arraignment. If convicted of both DUI offenses, she faces a mandatory 48 hours in jail out of a minimum 10 day sentence. She could face up to a year in jail if she’s found guilty of both DUIs.

She could get up to five years in jail for possessing cocaine, but since she had small amounts in her car and on her person when she was arrested the second time she can claim the drugs were for personal use and get drug counseling under something called Prop 36 in California law:

Prop 36 would mean no jail time and require that she participate in a year long drug diversion treatment program. At the successful completion of the program, the drug charges are removed from your record. Lindsay would have to agree to this program before trial.

Whatever happens, I bet Lohan spends at least some time in jail. Lohan was arrested for her DUIs in Beverly Hills and in Santa Monica, which are both in Los Angeles county. If convicted and sentenced to jail, she’ll be doing time in Paris’ old haunt, the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood.

Lohan’s career
The producers of Lindsay’s upcoming movie with Shirley Maclaine, Poor Things, denied an earlier report that the film was scrapped due to Lohan’s antics in Vegas immediately following her rehab stint. Now that she’s been arrested on another DUI and drug possession charge, the status of the movie is understandably up in the air. They say the film is moving forward soon, and that they’re optimistic about it. No word on whether they’re going to dump Lohan.

Lohan’s new thriller I Know Who Killed Me is out this Friday! As Lohan is currently in an undisclosed rehab, she will hopefully hide her freckled mug for a while and resist going to the premiere, but it’s got to kill her to not attend.

US Weekly reports that if the film tanks at the box office it could be the end of Lohan’s movie career. She’s still got her singing to fall back on, and was blabbing just last week that she planned to make another album and launch a tour like Madonnas.

Lohan was said to be trying to sell pictures of herself to x17 for $30k in the days before her arrest. It’s possible she’s fighting for liquidity, as Ken Lay’s wife once put it so eloquently.

What really happened that night
Was Lohan chasing her assistant who just quit and called police on her or was she being chansed by paparazzi?

Lohan sent a text message to Billy Bush of Access Hollywood claiming:

Yes. I am innocent… did not do drugs they’re not mine. I was almost hit by my assistant Tarin’s mom. I appreciate everyone giving me my privacy.

TNZ reports that Lindsay and the mother of her old assistant (who she is still supposedly on good terms with) were being chased by at least one other car at the time:

Sources connected to Lindsay tell TMZ both Lindsay, who was driving a Denali, and the Escalade in front of her, driven by the mother of Lindsay’s former assistant, were both being chased in a “unsafe and threatening” manner.

We’re told there may have been more than one vehicle chasing the duo, though we do not know the identities of those drivers. We could not confirm if paparazzi were chasing the cars. One thing we do know: there are no known photos of the incidents.

So whatever happened, Lohan was driving drunk while either chasing someone or being chased. It’s a good thing she got taken in that night.

The future for Lohan and for the rest of us hapless bystanders
The media storm hasn’t even begun in this case. TMZ was all over it yesterday, but the mainstream news is just starting to smell blood in the water. This shit is going to be all over the place, and I’ll cover it while trying not to go overboard as you’re sure to hear all about it on CNN, Fox, MSNBC, and any print or Internet source you care to read.

As for what’s going to happen to Lindsay I can’t help but think she’ll love the attention. She won’t enjoy going to jail, but this is only going to make her more famous. This is one of the girls who started the crotch-flashing trend. She doesn’t care what kind of attention she gets, and a little stint in jail is not going to change her. Yes, she’s troubled and addiction is a hard disease to conquer, but there’s something to be said for personal responsibility and for not putting other people’s lives at risk by driving drunk.

She’s f’ed up, but not as clueless as Britney. She’ll still make money somehow, and I bet she’ll go back to behaving badly while launching a halfway decent music career after this.

During the opening pyrotechnics-infused number of Beyonce Knowles’s St. Louis concert on Sunday night, one of the fireworks fell into the first row of the audience, injuring two concertgoers. The victims were rushed to the hospital, and luckily their injuries were fairly minor, and they’re both expected to make a full recovery.

After the concert was over, Beyonce jetted to the ER at Barnes-Jewish Hospital to visit the injured. She spent about 45 minutes talking to the two people.

Soon after the concert, Knowles arrived at the hospital, said head nurse Darryl Williams. “She was just very concerned about the people injured in the audience,” Williams said. “It was unannounced and we kept it very low-key so that she could spend time with them.” Knowles, 25, met with the fans for about 45 minutes. “I just thought it was a great thing for someone of her stature to do,” Williams said.

I’m sure the visit was out of the goodness of her heart, and had nothing to do with avoiding negative publicity or a lawsuit or anything. It really did seem to turn the publicity around; all of the headlines are positive, like “Beyoncé visits two fans hurt by fireworks,” “Beyonce Visits Injured Fans In Hospital,” “Beyonce Treats Injured Fans to a Hospital Visit in St. Louis.” All make her sound so charitable for taking time out of her busy schedule. I’m sure it really was just to check on them. Somehow, considering a lot of the things written about Beyonce (ie Beyonce only looks out for Beyonce) I seriously doubt the visits were anything but a PR move.

Blogger abuser and moody rocker Jared Leto broke his nose when fans rushed him at a concert in El Paso, Texas. He went on with the show, but got checked out by a doctor afterwards. Leto sustained other minor injuries to his face and body:

True chaos ensued Thursday at the Taste of Chaos tour stop in El Paso, Texas, resulting in 30 Seconds to Mars singer Jared Leto sustaining a broken nose and other injuries.

According to a spokesperson for the band’s record label, Leto was injured when he ran into the crowd during “The Kill” and thousands of fans overpowered security and rushed toward him on the floor of County Coliseum.

Along with his nose, which was unintentionally broken, Leto suffered a foot injury and superficial injuries to his face and body.

Leto finished the show and even declared it one of the best of the tour, but eventually checked into a hospital to ensure that none of his injuries would require surgery. 30 Seconds to Mars are scheduled to perform Friday (March 2) in Dallas.

No fans were reportedly injured.

It looks like someone reads Best Week Ever and jumped on the opportunity to punch Jared Leto in the face when it presented itself. There are many stories of this guy generally acting like an asshole and threatening people. He also really hates blogs because they point out how shitty his music is and occasionally pay attention to all the arrogant abuse he heaps on others.

Brandy didn’t have drugs or alcohol in her system the day she caused a fatal car accident, but she may have been heartbroken and distraught. The National Enquirer claims that she was dumped for good that morning by her on-off boyfriend and onetime fiance, Knicks forward guard Quentin Richardson, and that she was seen crying when she left his hotel:

The morning of the accident Brandy had been visiting her on-again off-again fiance, New York Knicks basketball star Quentin Richardson, who was in town for a game.

“The tried to reconcile one more time when Quentin finally told Brandy it just wasn’t going to work. She left his hotel in tears,” said the source.

Later that morning Brandy was going 65 mph when she slammed her 2007 Land Rover in a 2005 Toyota driven by 38-year0old Awatef Aboudihaj, who was married with one child… Aboudihaj’s car hit another vehicle then slid sideways before striking the center divider. Brandy was not injured, but witnesses at the scene claim she was hysterical.

Brandy and Quentin announced their engagement in June, 2004, with Brandy sporting a $1 million custom-designed engagement ring. Right around that time the news came out that Brandy was never really married to the father of her daughter, producer Robert Smith. She claimed Smith was her husband when the two starred in a short MTV reality show about the birth of her child in mid 2002.

Brandy was so crazy about Quentin that she had his face tattooed on her left shoulder blade. She changed the tattoo of Quentin’s face to a cat when they ended their engagement in October, 2005.

I have been in one of those relationships where you love the person but it’s never going to work no matter how hard you try. It drives you crazy, but you have to just end it and move on. It was probably eating at Brandy for a while, and if this is true she must have been incredibly upset that morning.

Brandy is being sued for $50 million by the family of the woman killed in the accident she caused. The California Highway Patrol is recommending that she be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, but she has not been officiallly charged yet. The case is under review by the city’s attorney’s office.

There’s plenty of news lately about celebrities causing fatal car accidents. Prison Break star Lane Garrison went with some teen fans to a party in December and attempted to drive them home. He then rammed his SUV into a tree, killing a 17 year-old boy he just met that night. He was driving drunk, and now there’s evidence that he was doing cocaine before the crash:

Blood tests have revealed that Lane Garrison had “more than twice the legal limit” of alcohol in his system and was under the influence of cocaine during the fatal crash that killed a 17-year-old boy in December, this according to police.

A spokesman for the Beverly Hills Police Department announced today that his department has recommend that the L.A. County District Attorney file a felony charge of gross vehicular manslaughter against the “Prison Break” star….

TMZ spoke exclusively with several witnesses who claim they watched Lane Garrison snort lines of cocaine just before the fatal crash.

According to our sources, Garrison looked “very high” and his “eyes were glazed” at the the party, which was attended mostly by teenagers.

According to our sources, Garrison obtained the coke from another attendee in an upstairs bedroom of the Beverly Hills home where seven or eight people were partying. They report that Garrison also had six or seven shots of Grey Goose vodka at the same time.

This is Garrison’s second known accident. He rear-ended a car at a light after leaving LA celebrity club Hyde in October of last year.

Garrison could get up to ten years in jail if he’s convicted on the charge of gross vehicular manslaughter. It’s doubtful his role as the now-deceased Tweener on Prison Break has prepared him for the real experience.
