Anne Hathaway is engaged to her boyfriend of three years, Adam Shulman

Damn, I just had a conspiratorial side-eye in the Christian Bale post about Anne Hathaway, and now here she is, all princessy and engaged. Yes, People Magazine is confirming that Anne is engaged to her boyfriend of three years, Adam Shulman. Three things: one, Adam is Anne’s first relationship after her years-long relationship with imprisoned con artist Raffaello Follieri. Two, after the Follieri mess, Anne got the reputation as a very high-maintenance girlfriend, so good luck to Adam Shulman (who I think looks sort of like Ryan Gosling, right?). And three, I still kind of think Anne might have cheated on Adam with a costar. Mostly because of this Lainey blind item. But anyway… congrats to Anne and Adam!

Is the ultimate on-screen princess finally getting her fairy-tale ending?

Anne Hathaway is engaged to wed longtime boyfriend Adam Shulman, 30, whom she began dating in 2008, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.

On Sunday, the actress was photographed sporting a ring in a Brooklyn park along with Shulman.

“I am very much in love with him, [only] Adam totally ruined my plan,” Hathaway, 28, previously said of their three-year relationship. “I was really actually looking forward to a little alone time, and then I fell in love like a fool!”

Her relationship with the actor-jewelry designer followed a less happy ending with ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri in the summer of 2008, after he pled guilty to 14 counts of money laundering, conspiracy and wire fraud.

“I hate talking about the breakup because I don’t want it to define me, but as is to be expected, there were a lot of lingering trust issues,” she said last year of their highly publicized fall-out.

Over the summer, she gushed about Shulman at the premiere of her movie One Day.

“I’m a romantic at heart,” she told PEOPLE. “He’s the best!”

I used to find Anne rather cloying and annoying, but I’ve grown to like her a great deal over the past few years. She came out of the Follieri mess relatively unscathed, she started working really hard and turning in some good to great performances in film after film, plus I kind of like that she seems like an anal-retentive girly-girl. She seems organized, smart and yes, high maintenance. And if Adam wants to marry her… good for them.

Anne Hathaway’s new boyfriend might be a thief, just like the last one
Anne Hathaway and boyfriend Adam Shulman leave the opening party for La Vida restaurant in LA

Throughout the 2009 awards season, I was somewhat amazed at how well Anne Hathaway had rebounded after her disastrous relationship with her con artist, fraud and thief boyfriend Raffaello Follieri. Not only was she nominated for every major award last year, but after Follieri was charged and put in jail, no one really asked Anne about it. Anne certainly behaved with class during the situation, and at some point last year, she began dating a very low-key dude named Adam Shulman. Did I say “low-key”? I meant “art thief”. Yes, Anne’s new boyfriend might be as much of a criminal as Follieri. Except not really – Shulman is just being accused of stealing a part of an outdoor mural in NYC, not of bilking millions of dollars from some of the most influential people in the world. Here’s more:

Can’t Anne Hathaway — one of Hollywood’s most angelic and seemingly nice young actresses — just find a guy without some sort of criminal implications?

The ‘Alice in Wonderland’ starlet is stuck in the middle of more headlines thanks to a significant other, as her new boyfriend Adam Shulman allegedly took off with part of a painted mural. Unfortunately for Shulman, someone else claims the mural is his property, and is going to press charges unless it’s returned.

According to the New York Post, H&H Builders president Ken Hart claims the artwork painted by infamous New York City street artist Mr. Brainwash was taken from him by Mr. Shulman, but in true forgive-and-forget fashion, promises that “if he brings me back the art, it’s over … But if he doesn’t, I’m going to the police to report it stolen!”

For Hathaway, this must be a blatant reminder of her romantic woes past. She previously was in a long-term relationship with Raffaello Follieri, who is currently serving jail time after he pled guilty to fraud charges. Follieri was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison for bilking investors out of nearly $4 million in a real estate scam.

Just how did he scam all that money? Follieri told his investors that because he had ties to the Vatican, he could easily secure church property for well below market value.

Hathaway has kept mostly mum about Follieri since splitting with him months before his sentencing. She did reference him in an Independent interview, saying: “The worst thing that happens to you can be the best thing for you, if you don’t let it get the best of you.”

She even joked about her dating record while on ‘The Late Show With David Letterman.’ After being grilled by Dave about Follieri, Hathaway joked: “You do have to give me credit because as far as relationships crashing and burning goes, c’mon, I did pretty great. I mean, scorched that earth!”

Here’s wishing Miss Hathaway a happy and drama free future with whoever her man of choice is.

It sounds more like a prank or a shenanigan rather than an art heist. Although if it was taken from private property, I guess Adam should have known better? Anyway, Shulman should return the mural and all will be forgiven. Even if he doesn’t, he’s still got a way to go before he’s a Follieri-type con artist/criminal mastermind.

Anne Hathaway pays for everything with new boyfriend

saga 12 260109
Does anyone envy Anne Hthaway’s dating history? She spent four tumultuous years with con man Raffaello Follieri, her first real boyfriend, and now she’s dating a struggling-but-cute actor named Adam Shulman. Star is reporting that Shulman is really, really struggling, and that Anne has to pay his way.

I have to nitpick with Star, a tabloid that seems to think if they repeat the lie enough times it is somehow true. They report that Hathaway was paying for her extravagent lifestyle with Raffaello back when they were together, yet part of Raffaello’s “con” was stealing money to pay for his own private lifestyle. Not that Anne didn’t lose money in the relationship – it’s well-documented that she donated money to Follieri’s “charity”, but not that she paid for their apartment and lifestyle.

Anne Hathaway must be feeling a bit of déjà vu when it comes to her new beau, Adam Shulman!

The Bride Wars star spent big bucks on her con man ex, Raffaello Follieri, even shelling out $37,000 a month for his apartment in NYC’s Olympic Tower before finally dumping him in June. And though she’s been head over heels for struggling actor Adam since the two hooked up in the fall, Anne once again has to pay up for her man!

“Adam is not a swindler like Raffaello, but the truth is the truth: Adam is far from Mr. Moneybags, so Anne has to buy everything,” an insider tells Star. “She leads an extravagant lifestyle — she has to fly all over the globe and show up at black-tie events. The only way for Adam to fit into her life is if she foots the bill.”

Still, adds the source, “He feels bad that Anne has to pay, so he does little things for her, like buy her books, give her love notes and cook her meals — little things to make her feel special.”

From Star Magazine

Anne is probably a naturally generous person, and I’m sure this Shulman guy is nowhere near the epic douche Follieri was, but Anne might want to stop dating and regroup a little bit. It’s perfectly possible that Star is making a mountain out of a molehill – after all, Anne’s “dates” for most of her red carpet appearances the past few months have been her family members, her management people or she’s walked the carpet solo. It’s not as if she’s got a “kept man” in Shulman. Plus, I don’t see Hathaway staying with some guy who can’t keep up with her for very long – she seems very, very high-maintenance to me.
