US Weekly is reporting that Naomi Watts is pregnant and that she’s in her second trimester. They just say she’s expecting but that her rep didn’t confirm it, and they don’t even mention a source. It’s possible they’re judging based on recent pictures, it’s hard to tell:
Naomi Watts, 39, has entered her second trimester with her second baby, Us Weekly reports in its newest issue, on newsstands now.
But don’t expect a huge announcement: When she was pregnant last year with her first child, her beau, Liev Schreiber, 40, didn’t confirm it until he casually told Conan O’Brien, “Yes, I’m going to be a dad.”
The couple — who met on the set of the 2006 drama The Painted Veil and have homes in NYC and L.A. — welcomed son Alexander in July 2007…
Watts’ rep tells Us she doesn’t comment on her client’s personal life.
Over the weekend Watts was photographed wearing what looked like an engagement ring. Right before her first child, Alexander, now one, was born, Her boyfriend Liev Schreiber told the press that they were engaged. He later claimed that he was joking and many people thought it was cruel that he said it in the first place. It sounded to me like he really wanted to be engaged but that they made a decision to either wait or keep it private.
If this is true, congratulations to Watts and Schreiber. They’ve very admirably tried to keep their personal life private. Naomi let the paparazzi take the first photos of Alexander and chose not to cash in with a valuable magazine spread. These two are sure to try and keep their wedding quiet if this is true and I wonder if they’re planning to marry before the maybe-baby arrives.
Naomi Watts is shown on 6/27/08 in the belted dress and on 6/25/08 out with Liev and Alexander. She is also shown with Alexander on 6/28/08, and you can clearly see her gorgeous ring. She does look like she’s pregnant but it’s hard to tell with what she’s wearing.
When Angelina’s doctor announced earlier that he was going to make an announcement, as xiaoecho phrased it, some were worried, some expectant (like Angelina) and others rolled their eyes. The news is anti-climatic is no doubt in response to the immense clamoring for information from the press. He said she’s still pregnant, gave vague information as to when she’s due, and said she’s fine and will be in the hospital for a while. Her health is absolutely normal, according to her doctor:
“Everything is normal,” the obstetrician said in French, as he also said in English, “She is very well, and she’s okay.”
“It is simply a visit of surveillance, no birth,” Sussmann said of his patient, who entered the hospital over the weekend. “Brad and Angie want everyone to know that everything is going well.”
Saying that Jolie’s “very, very nice,” the doctor added, “She will stay in the hospital until the birth. I will stay with her.”
What he was not specific about was the due date. “This is something you can’t program, you never know for sure,” he said.
US Weekly adds the detail that Angelina’s obstetrician Dr. Sussman said “in the weeks to come” when asked when she was due exactly. Her Kung Fu Panda co-star Dustin Hoffman said in an interview at Cannes that she was due August 19, but it is thought that may be a ruse to buy the actress some much needed privacy after the birth. She has said that she “plans to disappear for a month or so” after she gives birth. She’s disappeared for the past month, so she just might be able to manage it if she stays holed up in that immense villa. We’ll have to see when they announce the birth, because she may be planning to try and keep it a secret for as long as possible. Who can blame her? Show the love, Badettes.

Angelina Jolie arrived by helicopter last night to Lenval hospital on the French Riviera. She is said to be staying in the best room in their maternity ward to await the birth of her twins, thought to be boy and girl fraternal twins. Earlier reports had Angelina at the hospital for a scheduled rest period before the birth, but her doctor has announced a press conference for later this afternoon and outlets are buzzing that the babies may have already arrived. Angelina’s partner Brad Pitt was seen leaving the hospital earlier today with one of their children, perhaps for a quick visit to the nearby town for supplies:
Angelina Jolie’s obstetrician, Dr. Michel Sussmann, who is watching over the 33-year-old actress at a French Riviera hospital where she is expected to give birth, called a news conference for later Wednesday afternoon.
Would he announce that her twins had been born? That remained a mystery; the hospital wouldn’t say.
Jolie’s partner, Brad Pitt, was seen leaving the seafront Lenval hospital Wednesday morning with one of their four young children.
The hospital announced Tuesday that Jolie had checked into its Santa Maria maternity clinic to be kept under doctors’ watch and rest before she gives birth.
A hospital spokeswoman said the births were “not for right away,” but spokeswoman Nadine Bauer said Jolie would almost certainly stay in the clinic until then.
Nice Matin, the local newspaper, reported that Jolie has the best room in the hospital, on the fifth floor, with an “unobstructed view” over the Bay of Angels. It said she arrived by helicopter, landing Sunday afternoon on the hospital’s roof. The newspaper said the actress reserved four rooms on the maternity ward, with a bodyguard keeping watch.
We’ll have to wait and see what Angelina’s doctor says, but why else would he hold a press conference - to ask for privacy? Giving birth is one situation where I definitely wouldn’t be ashamed to take advantage of preferential treatment if I was rich and famous. You have enough stress to go through having to give birth or get major surgery if you’re having a c-section, every woman should be pampered and attended to while they’re in labor. It sound like things are all set up for Angelina at the hospital and maybe we’ll soon hear that her babies have arrived.

Ashlee Simpson is out and proud with her baby bump, which seems rather large for someone only four months along. She’s less than half way through her pregnancy, she’s either giving into her junk food cravings, expecting twins, or one of the very unfortunate women who get huge during pregnancy. She looks good though.
It seems that however many babies are inside that belly, she’s having a boy. A Fall Out Boy, since I just can’t resist the pun.
The couple, who married in May, filled out a registry for their baby in June and our source says, “almost everything is blue.”
A salesperson who helped the couple said, “They [Simpson and Wentz] made it very clear that it was a boy.”
On June 30, the rocker couple bought a few T-shirts and bibs from Plain Mary with the words, “Hunk,” “Loved” and “Yummy” emblazoned on the front. The shirts retail for $28 and the bibs for $18.
Simpson and Wentz will visit the baby boutique next week to discuss the nursery, our source confirms.
Petit Tresor is the same shop that got slapped with a lawsuit for leaking details of Tom and Katie’s shopping habits, so I wonder if Pete and Ash have gone shopping for clothes in there knowing that what they buy is going to get leaked. Next they’ll order some pink items to throw us off the scent, or make us think it is twins.
Isn’t $18 rather expensive for a bib? A bib is used to wipe snot and food off of a baby’s face, it doesn’t really need to be anything special.
Ashlee’s new husband Pete Wentz said this week that he used to make out with guys, but it was ’sexual rebellion’. I’m not sure exactly what Pete Wentz is rebelling against sexually, but I’m guessing it was against those girls who weren’t really into the guyliner.

Another day, another “Angelina had the babies rumor,” except this time it’s a little closer to her due date and might actually be true. A French gossip magazine called Closer, which doesn’t look much different from US Magazine Star, has a super brief mention that Angelina had the babies. Even though I can’t understand French and have to rely on a translator, it’s easy to tell that it’s short on details and asks people to credit them with the news.
Here’s the rough translation from an online translator:

So she delivered, but there are no details on if she had a boy and girl as expected, where she was even in general, or if was scheduled or unexpected. Just Jared says that it claims she went into labor on Monday night (I think that’s what the “work room” translation is referring to) and gave birth this morning.
It could be true, but it seems like they’d have a little something more to report if it was, and wouldn’t be so quick to insist that they’re credited with this vague exclusive. The website for Closer magazine features some of their other stories about celebrities, including the familiar “beach bodies” and “scary skinny” pictorials. The gossip press isn’t that much different in France it seems, including the penchant to invent stories in order to get publicity. We’ll have to see, but this sounds this total bs to me or they would have a general location of the hospital and/or the sex of the babies.
Update Thanks to commenters Gena and Elisha below for pointing me to this AP article which confirms that Angelina is in a hospital in Nice. There is no news as to whether she’s given birth yet and it’s phrased as if she’s waiting to give birth and her admittance was planned. She is thought to have been on bed rest for a few weeks up until this point.
PARIS - Angelina Jolie has gone into a hospital in the south of France where she expects to give birth to twins.
Nadine Bauer, a spokeswoman for the Lenval Hospital in Nice, says Jolie is fine and that everything is going well. She said the actress’ admittance to the hospital’s maternity wing had been planned for some time.
Bauer said Jolie will almost certainly remain in the hospital until she gives birth. She said Jolie was admitted so she could be kept under surveillance and not to give birth immediately.
So how many paparazzi and amateur photographers are going to be crowded around that hospital now? Why would they confirm that she’s there, though? It seems like they would refuse to comment out of respect for her privacy. Maybe Angelina should have rented all the equipment to set up a temporary hospital at that villa where she’s staying.
Update 2: In Touch is reporting that Angelina has checked into the hospital, but is “just resting” dyring a pre-planned visit and has not given birth yet. Her doctor us said to be flying in “later this week”
In Touch has learned that the Wanted star did check into the Hospital Lenval’s Santa Maria clinic in Nice, France, on June 30. “Ms. Jolie came to the hospital last night as part of a pre-planned rest period, before she gives birth,” Nadine Bauer, spokeswoman for the hospital tells In Touch. “The visit has been planned for a long time; there are no complications. She is just resting.” Angelina’s babies are expected to be delivered by French doctor Michele Sussmann and her regular ob/gyn Jason Rothbart, who is due to fly to Europe later this week.
About three months ago we received so much comment spam for the now-failed E! reality shows “Pop Fiction” that I was compelled to write a story about it. In that case the spam was coming from a public relations firm that thought that a good way to generate interest in their client’s shows was to make obnoxious comments full of grammatical errors and spelling mistakes on celebrity blogs. (Neither the public relations firm or E! responded to our multiple requests for comment.)
People for “Baby Borrowers” left over five spam comments here. They were under different names and all from the same IP address, which was easily traced to NBC Universal. The comments weren’t that obnoxious and there weren’t that many of them so I just sent a warning message to the person’s listed e-mail and asked them to cut it out. We got a few more but not many, and they were on the “always send to moderation” list at that point. NBC is a big advertiser of ours, which also influenced my decision not to call them on it.

Given that people for this show spammed the blog, which creates unnecessary cleanup and generally just pisses me off, I’m more apt to report a negative story about it. A child welfare group says new reality show Baby Borrowers is unnecessarily stressful for babies. Infants as young as six months are separated from their parents for long stretches at a time and presumably overnight in order to teach teens that gee, it’s hard to raise a child. Sounds like a fun concept except maybe they should go easy on the babies and only start with a few hours here and there and give them a warming up period to get to know the teens. But no, they have to stay with strangers for long periods of time or else it won’t make for good television:
The show installs five young volunteer couples in different houses in Boise, Idaho, where they’re stuck minding an infant, from six months to a year old, who’s been dropped off at their door. Three days later, the couple swaps a baby for a toddler. They soon swap the toddler for a teen and then have to take care of a senior citizen.
NBC.com describes the show: “When a real baby appears . . . the nervous, fumbling teens are in for three long, arduous days that make chilling out a distant memory. They must stick to rigid routines, handle the feeding chores, diaper duty and crying jags.”
But nonprofit group Zero to Three claims it’s a horrible idea and is now protesting the show, which premiered last week.
“We’re concerned about the fact that these babies are being separated from their parents and placed with strangers,” the group’s spokesperson, Tom Salyers, told Page Six. “A large body of research says the attachments that are formed between the people who care for them are very important.
“On the first episode, the babies were separated for about 12 hours and were clearly in distress. Typically they will cry and cling and search for their parents, which they were doing. They should be with someone they’ve had the opportunity to get to know.”
NBC has provided 24-hour nanny supervision for the families, and the babies’ real parents are stationed next door with a video monitor. They are able to intervene and help out at any time.
An NBC rep said: “The producers of the show took all the necessary precautions to ensure the safety and welfare of the children participating in the series. The environment was carefully controlled, and the children were properly cared for at all times.”
It’s unclear from that story whether the babies stay with the teens for three full days with just small breaks seeing their parents or whether they stay 12 hours one day, 12 hours another day, etc. This group isn’t saying that babies shouldn’t be cared by people other than their parents, just that it’s important they get to know the people who care for them and have a long term relationship with them if possible. Of course babies are going to be upset when they go to a new daycare or get a new babysitter but you want to make the transition easy for them and not stress them out just to get a good scene.
I am lucky enough to work from home and was able to spend the first year with my son, with help from babysitters and neighbors, but now he goes to daycare. He’s been to two different daycares as we recently moved and both recommend a warming-up period for younger kids where you only leave them an hour or two the first day and gradually go away for longer periods of time until they’re used to the place and the new people.
It seems like with small infants they should have their well being in mind and to have given them time to get used to the new people. That would cost time and money, though, and these shows are all about exploiting even small babies for good television. It’s a decent concept, but since they spammed us and are separating infants from their parents in order to create a TV show, I can’t say I hope it’s a big success. The pictures sure are cute and harmless-looking, though, but it’s not like they’re going to put up photos of crying babies on their website. Damn I fell for that spam, didn’t I? NBC pays us, I should have left it up.

Nicole Kidman is allegedly due to give birth in July, I say allegedly because she still doesn’t have a very large baby belly. Although she is quite tall, so maybe that has something to do with it, or perhaps she’s just got abs of steel.
At any rate, details of her birth plan are starting to leak out, and Nic is planning on playing soothing music during her labor.
The 41-year-old actress, who married country singer Keith Urban in 2006, has naturally included some of her husband’s songs. But top of her labour list are the soothing strains of Irish flautist Sir James Galway.
A source said: ‘Nicole has been putting together CDs of music to listen to during labour. She has always loved James Galway, particularly his classical albums.
‘Whenever you go to her house, she has Galway on. There is one Prokofiev sonata that is her favourite.’
Sir James, 68, is considered the finest flautist of his generation. Knighted in 2001, he has recorded more than 60 albums. His most famous hit was the instrumental version of John Denver’s hit Annie’s Song in 1978.
It also seems that the baby will be born in Nashville, despite prior speculation that she would have the baby in Australia. If she is due in July it is getting too late for her to fly, particularly such a long distance, so I guess she’ll be having that baby at her adopted home of Tennessee. The suggestion that she plans to listen to music suggests that Nicole is not too posh to push, and this will be a natural birth.
I’ve always liked Nicole Kidman, and even more now her Ice Queen exterior is defrosting. She even delivered a salad to radio DJ Gerry House who was interviewing Keith Urban this week.
Urban, who was an in-studio guest on the show, was attempting to play down his role in Lamaze classes when Kidman called in and introduced herself as, “This is Keith’s wife!”
She said, “Keith has been doing Lamaze lessons, he is selling himself short. … He has been very good at it.”
Kidman added she was on her way to the radio station to pick her husband up but she was stuck in traffic, prompting cheeky House to serve up his lunch order.
The actress burst into the studio 30 minutes later with the DJ’s salad, prompting the stunned host to insist he’ll never be able to eat it.
He stammered, “I have no intention of eating this. Are you kidding? Lunch delivered by Nicole Kidman? I’m having it bronzed!”
Nicole’s new film Australia premieres on November 13, and tourist operators hope this film does for Oz what Lord of the Rings did for New Zealand. The Telegraph newspaper is calling it the ‘Nicole Kidman factor’ but frankly I’d much rather go looking for her co-star Hugh Jackman.

Star Magazine has a cover story this week titled “Jamoe Lynn: Delivery Room Drama!” OMG! Jossip offers invaluable analysis of this probably half bullshit, half embellished story. They say that by having an exclusive deal with OK! Magazine for photos and stories about her baby, Jamie Lynn incurred the tabloid editor’s wrath more so than your average celebrity.
Here are the supposed details of Jamie Lynn’s “Delivery Room Drama!” Star claims Casey passed out, Britney pled with Jamie Lynn to have a cesarean, and mother hen Lynn insisted on being in the room when Jamie Lynn gave birth, cursing her out like a movie cliché of a delivery room scene:
In the new issue of Star, on newsstands now, we have all the details about Jamie Lynn’s delivery room drama — including her life-threatening decision, emergency surgery to save the baby, Britney’s jealous episode, Lynne Spears fighting with everyone and the brouhaha over a paternity test.
“The baby’s heart rate dropped every time she tried to push,” a family insider tells Star. “They did an ultrasound and quickly discovered that the umbilical cord was too short.” But despite the doctors’ dire warnings, the 17-year-old “was adamant about having a natural delivery.”
Everyone in the room at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb, Miss., pleaded with Jamie Lynn to listen to the doctors — including big sister Britney. Brit had already been with Jamie Lynn for hours, massaging her back as she endured painful contractions. “But she got mad,” says the insider. She told Jamie Lynn to “just have a damn Caesarian,” as she did. “Britney then ran out in tears because she couldn’t bear to see what was happening.”
The girls mother, Lynne, only added to the tension. “Lynne was already angry because her daughter didn’t want her in the delivery room at all,” says the source. “But she had insisted on being there, along with Casey Aldridge, Jamie Lynn’s boyfriend. Jamie Lynn cussed and yelled at her mom, and told her to get out. She cursed Lynne for bringing her into the world to bear such pain.”
How poetic of Star: “She cursed Lynne for bringing her into the world to bear such pain.” I love that line. I’ve never heard of an umbilical cord being too short, but I Googled it and it does happen and can result in increased infant mortality.
Jossip notes that the article also claims that “Lynn Spears, Maddie’s grandma, wants a DNA test right away because she doesn’t believe Aldridge is the father.” Their explanation of how so many things went wrong with the birth is a lesson in a tabloid scorned:
You know what you get when you’re a celebrity and you sign an exclusive deal with a tabloid? Bad karma from the rest of the magazines.
Jamie Lynn Spears, who signed a $1 million exclusive deal with OK! for her pregnancy story and pics, is getting stabbed by Star with a dramatic cover story exclaiming, “Delivery Room Drama!” Since Spears is prohibited from playing ball with the other celeb weeklies, there’s only one thing Star can do: deliver one piece of bad news after another. If only Spears hadn’t signed with OK!, she could’ve scored some protection.
Star spreads a lot of fake news about celebrities but it’s particularly malicious when they’re blocked from a coveted story. On the remote chance that all of this is true, you could also say that Jamie Lynn had an unremarkable natural birth despite some minor complications and pressure from her doctors and family to have a c-section.
Tori Spelling and her new baby are on the cover of this week’s OK! Magazine. Inside the mag are photos of Tori and her stolen husband, Dean McDermott, along with their son Liam, who started out a little iffy in the looks department but is now a bona fide cutie pants. In the interview, Tori admits that she and Dean were not planning for a second child- in fact, she had been on birth control pills.
She’s a miracle,” Spelling tells OK!. “I was on one pill and wasn’t feeling well, so I went off of it. Two days later, the doctor put me on another, and on that one day, we conceived. It was meant to be!”
“My first thought was, ‘My god, she’s so beautiful,’” Tori gushes. “My second thought was, ‘Oh my god, she has black hair! Where did that come from?’ [laughs] Liam has blonde hair and is very fair. She was born with black hair, very tan.”
Tori continues, “I never thought I’d have a daughter. Dean’s first child [Jack] is a boy and then we had Liam and I thought, ‘Because I’m so girly-girly, I’ll have all boys.’ ”
Dean agrees, adding, “When I saw Stella for the first time, I just bawled my face off out of pure joy. I’ve always heard that there’s nothing like that bond between father and daughter. There is nothing like it — you feel it that moment. It hit me like a ton of bricks. Little boys are awesome. They’re just like a little you. But having a little girl is something else. As a man, you just lose it.”
Uh, Tori? We all know you are NOT a natural blond, so who do you think you are kidding with this “Where’d Stella get the dark hair from” bit? Puh-lease. Stella is a very cute baby, but I’m not totally sold on the name. “Stella Doreen.” That sounds rather trailer park-ish. I just picture a girl in cutoff shorts with huge mall bangs. But maybe it’ll grow on me, like “Honor” did.

I don’t know how I’d feel about this if I were Nicole. On one hand, Katie had nothing to do with her split from Tommy Boy. On the other, this is the woman who has pretty much stepped in and become a de facto parent to her adopted children with Cruise–you know, the ones we never see because they’re in some creepy Scientology school. But for all we know, Nicole and Keith Urban and Tom and Katie are all one big happy family who wish each other the best and all see the same plastic surgeon.
