Blake Lively & her publicist criticize People Mag for crashing Blake’s wedding

Everything about Blake Lively is “bold” these days. I mean that seriously. Blake and Ryan Reynolds were married in a secret ceremony in South Carolina eight days ago, and the tabloids are still playing catch-up, because in a bold move, Blake barely leaked anything about the wedding. Blake and Ryan didn’t sell or give away their wedding photos to People Mag or Us Weekly either. Instead, in a bold move, Blake had her wedding styled and organized by Martha Stewart’s people, and the wedding photos will appear exclusively in the December issue of Martha Stewart Weddings. So not only did Blake wedding-block the tabloids, she gave away her exclusive to a prestigious and well-read monthly magazine. And in another BOLD move, Blake and her publicist are taking PEOPLE MAG to task for their cover lie on last week’s cover.

While People magazine is viewed as the veritable bulletin board for publicists’ handouts, the celebrity weekly has drawn the ire of Blake Lively’s team for this week’s cover about her wedding to Ryan Reynolds, which gleefully blared, “People Was There!”

But a source in Blake’s camp sniped, “No, People was not there, unless you count an uninvited photographer sitting on a boat sneaking shots.”

We’re told Lively was concerned that the cover line gave the impression that she had sold her wedding pictures to the weekly, which has recently officially featured the wedding of Drew Barrymore and also Matthew McConaughey.

A Lively rep confirmed, “People was not there, no pictures were sold.”

[From Page Six]

So Blake and her publicist are basically picking a fight with PEOPLE MAG. I cannot emphasis enough how bold that move is. If you’re a celebrity and you don’t like something that People Mag does, you know what happens? Not much. It’s People – the most powerful gossip and celebrity news outlet out there. If you don’t like their coverage (and you’re a celebrity), you simply call your publicist and work something out with People’s editors, a tit for tat to get better coverage. If you’re a celebrity, you basically NEVER publicly call out People Mag for acting like a tabloid, for trying to crash your wedding. Maybe Blake thinks that she doesn’t need People. Maybe she’s just trying to flaunt how important she is now. I don’t know. It will be interesting to see if People’s editors address the issue somehow.

Blake Lively & Ryan wrote their own vows, served s’mores at their wedding

As we discussed yesterday, Blake Lively seems to have given away the first photos of her wedding to Martha Stewart Weddings, a monthly magazine. Martha’s wedding stylists came and styled Blake’s wedding, so it made sense, especially considering Blake’s insistence that she’s a perfect wifely homemaker type, the very essence of all things Martha Stewart. So it’s kind of surprising – given that the tabloids know Martha’s magazine has the exclusive – that both Us Weekly and People are running cover stories on the wedding with allegedly “new details.” Let’s break down some of the highlights:

*Blake and Ryan wrote their own vows. A source tells People, “They promised to support and love each other and to make each other laugh.” Ryan “said he would treasure Blake; she said she would adore him. The whole time they were beaming.”

*The wedding reception included “after-dinner s’mores and a paper-lantern send-off.” S’mores! That’s kind of awesome.

*Florence Welch performed “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Blake cried, as did many guests.

*The guest list amounted to about 60 people. Blake included her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants costars, America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, and Alexis Bledel.

*Blake and Ryan have visited Charleston several times before, including last Thanksgiving, where they stayed at a bed and breakfast. Apparently, it’s one of their “special places”.

*Blake chose a local chef for the reception – and his facial hair is kind of awesome.

[From Us Weekly and People Magazine]

I’d like to know who else Blake and Ryan invited? Leighton Meester? Penn Badgley? (I know she didn’t invite Penn.) What about any of Blake’s friends from The Town? Cough. What about Ryan’s friends? Was Sandra Bullock there? And I can’t WAIT to hear more about the food. You know it’s going to be much more interesting than Natalie Portman’s vegan, no-cake wedding.

Blake Lively wants a big family, says she’d “love” to have 30 children

I had a small preview of this last week –Blake Lively is the cover girl for the October issue of Allure. Which means that this cover interview was done a few months ago, before she was married to Ryan Reynolds. They were probably engaged, but she doesn’t even confirm that. What she does confirm? That she’s hellbent on becoming the most perfect 1950s housewife EVER! Which is par for the course when it comes to Blake and her recent interviews – all about not working out, eating, cooking, cleaning, being a happy homemaker. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, but for the love of God, I wish she would change up her talking points once in a while. Some highlights from the piece:

Premarital bliss: “Right now, I’m so peaceful. I’ve never been happier in my life,” she adds.

Making the choice to be happy: “It’s the choice that you have to wake up every day and say, ‘There’s no reason today can’t be the best day of my life.’”

Family: “I’ve always wanted a big family. Oh, I’d love 30 [children] if I could.”

Imperfections, body image: “I obviously have plenty of imperfections on my body, but I’d rather have a little bit of cellulite and go do a food trip and try every ice cream place in the South.”

[Allure via Us Weekly]

She talks like a life coach. Right? Happiness is a choice, you have to wake up and say that this day will be the best day of your life, I’ve never been happier, I am at peace with the world and all things in the world and DEAR GOD ENOUGH. I appreciate that kind of “Zen” quality in people, but you have to admit… it makes for a pretty dull person.

Allure put up a slideshow using old photos of Blake (like, from her teenage years and her pre-nose job Hollywood years) and they got her to comment on the photos. You can see the slideshow here – she talks about being tall and how she was a “terrible, spastic dancer” in middle school how no one else at her middle school was doing the Kate Moss unbrushed hair thing. Funny. Blake also referenced Ben Affleck (COUGH!) and The Town while looking at one photo, saying: “[The Town] is one of my most proud pieces. That cast, I learned so much from each of them. They’re all such generous actors, and Ben was an incredible director. That was a big turning point for me in my life, in my career.” Fascinating.

Can you believe she’s cradling a lamb against her bolt-ons?

Blake Lively’s wedding was styled by Martha Stewart’s team. Of course.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds got married on Sunday, as we discussed yesterday. When I wrote about it yesterday, I said, “I would love to know the guest list. I would love to know if they’ll sell (or give away) any photos from the event – my guess is no, they won’t.” I was thinking about People Magazine or Us Weekly (never the lower-tier tabloids) when I wrote that – I didn’t even consider the idea that Blake could have organized a photo shoot with a monthly magazine. Not just any monthly either – Martha Stewart Weddings! OMG. Blake truly is a 1950s housewife throwback. Amazing.

Blake and Ryan’s wedding was a good thing. Martha Stewart’s team worked with Lively, 25, and Reynolds, 35, and planner Tara Guérard of Soiree in Charleston, S.C, to create an “intimate, personalized party” for immediate and extended family “in a rustic barn,” according to Martha Stewart Weddings.

“From the heartfelt ceremony to the fun-filled carnival hour and elegant reception, it was a truly enchanting celebration,” according to the magazine, which promises more details in its December issue.

The ceremony took place at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Sunday just outside of Charleston. “Ryan, who has been a long-time fan of Charleston, chose to mark this special occasion in one of his favorite towns,” according to the magazine.

Lively wore a one-of-a-kind Marchesa couture bridal ball gown with a hand-draped silk tulle bodice adorned with crystal and rose gold embroidery.

Her bridesmaids wore blush silk chiffon Marchesa gowns with crystal embroidered detail. The women all wore shoes from Christian Louboutin.

The groom and groomsmen donned Burberry suits with custom leather suspenders designed by Ryan’s friend Christopher Bailey. The couple exchanged rings by Lorraine Schwartz.

The wedding, first reported by PEOPLE, also had a reception held in a white tent at the plantation. Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine), a good friend of the Gossip Girl star, performed three songs live for guests.

[From People]

I am in physical PAIN over the fact that Blake wore Marchesa. She was the face of Chanel (purses). She’s the current face of a Gucci perfume. How is it that Blake “Baller” Lively had to saunter and mumble her way through her wedding in a GD Marchesa gown?!? You know she looked like an ice-skater MESS. You know it’s going to be tacky and budget. And Ryan managed to wrangle Christopher Bailey for his suit! Bailey is the head of Burberry – and you know Bailey was probably horrified to learn the bride was going to wear Marchesa. HOW GAUCHE. Seriously. Just to give you a taste, this is what Blake looks like in Marchesa:

OMG: Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds were quietly married in South Carolina

I told you so! Sort of. I predicted some parts of this, but not others. To be fair, many people predicted that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were definitely on the marriage path. But I thought that when they did become engaged, everyone would know about the engagement and the wedding would be a big deal, like… the build-up would be huge. But as it turns out, Ryan Reynolds’ dong has magical powers. It can magically turn a once hardcore-famewhore into a demure, 1950s housewife with no desire to famewhore her wedding. MAGIC!

It’s been nearly a year since they were first publicly linked – and now Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are husband and wife. A source confirms to PEOPLE that the couple tied the knot Sunday night at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., just outside of Charleston.

The reception took place in a white tent at the plantation on Sunday evening. Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine), a good friend of the Gossip Girl star, performed three songs live, and there was also a deejay who spun tunes. PEOPLE also confirmed that a cake was being driven down from Virginia for the event.

Lively’s mother and sister were also spotted in town, and a source told PEOPLE that the two had dinner in Charleston with Bette Midler earlier in the weekend.

Reps for the two actors had no comment.

Lively and Reynolds have been in nesting mode since buying a home in Bedford, N.Y., earlier this year. They have subsequently been seen working out together at a local gym, as well as spending quality time with their families in New York and Vancouver, where Reynolds, PEOPLE’s 2010 Sexiest Man Alive, was born.

The two, who costarred together in 2011′s Green Lantern, have stayed relatively mum about their relationship, though Lively, 25, did tell Marie Claire this summer, “It’s definitely attractive when a man can dress well.”

Reynolds, 35, was previously married to Scarlett Johansson. The couple divorced in 2010 after two years of marriage. This is the first marriage for Lively, who previously dated her Gossip Girl costar Penn Badgley.

[From People]

It’s pretty amazing that they were able to get this done without “someone” leaking all of the details weeks in advance. As for the wedding… it sounds really nice. I would love to know the guest list. I would love to know if they’ll sell (or give away) any photos from the event – my guess is no, they won’t. I’ve already gotten some tweets about how they won’t last… seriously? Blake has been working this angle since the beginning – this was her goal all along. This is what she wanted, and she got Ryan Reynolds down the aisle within a YEAR of dumping Leonardo DiCaprio for Ryan. Face it, ladies and gentlemen: this one is going to last. Blake is really, really into it, and as for Ryan… he just loves a blonde with big boobs. He’s happy. I think Blake will probably get pregnant within a year too, you know.

Blake Lively covers Marie Claire UK: “I don’t drink. I’ve never tried a drug”

Blake Lively covers the October issue of Marie Claire UK, probably to promote Savages, which already came out a month ago in America. But she seems to be discussing the Oliver Stone film in the interview, which makes me think that the magazine cover story is more about Savages and less about Gossip Girl. Just FYI, Blake also covers the October issue of Allure, but that cover and photo shoot hasn’t been released yet. You can see MC UK’s slideshow here, and here are some highlights from her interview – note: I’m including some recent, random Blake quotes from other sources too (which we haven’t covered yet):

She was obsessed with the Spice Girls: “When I was a child I probably should have been medicated about my obsession with the Spice Girls. I had the Buffalo shoes, a customised Baby Spice necklace –when I say custom made it was made out of plastic from the local mall – and a union jack dress.”

She loves fashion: ‘I love fashion. It’s such an expression of self.’ Before adding: ‘There’s no designer I don’t have access to.’

She plays dark characters: ‘Time and again I play drug addicts with sexual issues. I never knew I had a dark side, but this is clearly where I get it out of my system.’

She’s totally sober: “I don’t drink. I’ve never tried a drug.”

Indulgences: “I’d rather have a bit of cellulite and go do a food trip and try every ice cream place in the South.”

She cooks: ‘I’m in a big cooking phase,’ she said. ‘If you went to my house you would not think it belonged to an actress. There’s no memorabilia from my career, no showbizzy pictures on the wall. You would think it was the house of a cooking obsessive.’

Styling herself: ”Styling is a lot of work! I guess I would consider [getting a stylist] in the future. ‘If I had a family and I was going on a press tour, I would not be spending my time [researching fashion] – I’d be getting my kids their Cheerios. ‘But I love it so much, it’s a good outlet for my creativity. If you make a mistake [when you don't have a stylist] at least it’s your own mistake.”

Fashion regrets: ”The only time I really felt a lot of regret is when it was something that I didn’t want to wear – something somebody had made for me and it didn’t turn out right. I never got to meet the designer and there was a lot Lost In Translation. ‘I just felt bad because it didn’t look right on me, but I wore it anyway as I didn’t want to hurt people’s feelings.”

[Via Hollywood Life, Marie Claire UK, Allure and Contact Music]

Can this girl talk about anything other than how she styles herself (like that’s so f—king epic) and how much she loves to cook? We get it, Blake. Maybe spend less time in the kitchen and more time with a book? Or picking up some other hobby? Sure, she loves to cook and that’s great and she’s SO DIFFERENT than all of the other starlets who just sit around, not eating and not even able to look at food. But there’s a bit of smugness to it too, a bit of bragging. “I can do it all, I can eat real food and style myself and I never have to work out and OMG I’M SO AWESOME.”

Oh, and I don’t think I buy the idea that she doesn’t drink. I don’t think she’s a boozehound or anything, but I find it hard to believe she doesn’t have a glass of wine when she sits down to eat her homemade beef bourguignon or whatever.

Is this photo shoot a repeat or are all of Blake’s shoots really boring? Let me check… ah, I see. Some of these shots ARE repeats from Blake’s June cover shoot with the American MC edition.

Blake Lively talks nonsense, claims she’ll never take off her clothes in a movie

I mentioned part of this new Blake Lively interview in yesterday’s links, but it’s worth discussing the entire piece in full right now. Blake gave an interview to something called “Style Magazine” which I’m assuming is a UK publication. In the interview, Blake reiterates her favorite Q&A chestnut, which is that she never, ever works out and she just has that body normally without any exercise at all. She also discusses how you’ll never see her do a nude scene on film. I guess we’re supposed to forget about seeing her bits and pieces in those hacked (“hacked”?) photos then. And although I haven’t seen Savages yet, I’m sure I heard something about a graphic sex scene? Yes, yes, I did. And didn’t she has sex scenes in The Private Lives of Pippa Lee? I never saw that either. But this is probably just Blake trying to prove how she’s a super-modest 1950s housewife, I guess.

Blake Lively has ruled out ever doing nude scenes. The Gossip Girl star said she is not a fan of stripping off for acting roles and said she found nudity in movies ‘distracting’ to the plot.

The 24-year-old said: ‘When I see nudity in movies, I am always distracted by it. I know that if I am watching a scene and someone has their b00bs out, then that’s all I’m looking at – I can’t help it. I just don’t think that will ever be right for me.’

Lively, who is dating Ryan Reynolds, is one of Hollywood’s most sought after young actresses. She was recently seen in the Oliver Stone thriller Savages and is known to have an enviable body. But insists she does virtually no exercise to maintain her slim figure.

She told Style magazine: ‘I am terrible; I don’t do any exercise – I’m going to have to learn the hard way. I love food too much, and my family is from the South, so the food I like is not necessarily the best for you. There are days when I will be like, “Oh my goodness, I am not happy with the way I look because I cannot fit into any of my clothes”. So I eat quinoa that week, and then I feel good.’

Lively said she realises how fickle Hollywood can be and relies on her family and close friends to keep her grounded. The star remains grounded by surrounding herself with friends and family who are always truthful with her.

‘The same people who love you to death one day will hate you to death the next, so who do you give the keys to your self-worth to?,’ she said. ‘You have to have those keys for yourself. And you have to surround yourself with people who are honest with you. I need honesty. I need good friends who can say, “I love you to death, but you look terrible in that and you need to change right now.”‘

[From The Mail]

I don’t have a raging hate-on OR love-on for Blake either way. Sometimes she’s very interesting, sometimes she’s super-annoying. I’m finding this current version of Blake to be pretty annoying. She’s trying to convince us of too many things all at once – like, we’re supposed to think that she’s a super-glamorous fashionista who loves clothes and has a natural “style eye” AND that she doesn’t care about how she looks insomuch as she doesn’t feel like going to the gym ever AND that she’s a perfect Betty Crocker housewife and super-loyal girlfriend to her barely four boyfriends (total, over her lifetime). Maybe she truly is all of those things. But I suspect that she’s just an ambitious hustler who works incredibly hard to project a certain kind of image.

Ryan Lochte’s choice for a desert island date: Blake Lively, “she is gorgeous”

I’ve come full circle this time around during the Olympics. I had a somewhat brief flirtation with Ryan Lochte, but I had to come back to Michael Phelps. Phelps is… The Man. Lochte is Not The Man. Lochte is super-cute, of course, but his personality is so lacking, I just can’t get hot for him at this point. I do kind of love how, within the span of a week, America kind of collectively got over Lochte, though. It was like all Americans just realized, “Oh, wow. He’s not as good as Phelps. And he’s kind of a fratty d-bag.”

So… I’m not sure if this is evidence of Lochte’s personality or if it just seems like lots of dudes are really into one specific blonde. But Lochte told Piers Morgan that his ideal woman (in a “desert island”-type situation) is Blake Lively. Piers asked, “If I could take you to a desert island it would be perfect for you, because you could swim all day long. A desert island and you could choose one famous woman to spend the rest of your life with, who would you take right now?” Ryan replies, “Right now, Blake Lively. Yeah, she is gorgeous.” Ryan’s potential pickup line: “I would be like, ‘Hi.’ I’d be like, ‘You want to go to an island with me?’”

I mean… I’m sure a lot of guys would choose Blake. I know many of you think she’s not cute, but I do think she’s a pretty girl, and her body is incredible (especially since she “doesn’t exercise”). My problem with Blake is that she seems to think, and others seem to think that her “look” is somehow high-fashion or some kind of revolutionary, iconic look… when really she’s just an attractive blonde with a “Mall Girl” vibe. So… what does this choice say about Ryan Lochte? That he probably likes the same big-boobed blondes that Ryan Reynolds goes for. I bet Lochte loves Reynolds’ ex-wife Scarlett Johansson too.

Oh, and Lochte pees in the pool too.

Blake Lively mumbles and model-struts in her Gucci commercial: awful or hot?

A month ago, we saw the first print ad for Blake Lively’s latest campaign – she’s the face of Gucci’s new perfume, Premiere. The ad (above) is nothing special. It’s not a particularly eye-catching shot, but it’s not horrible either. It should have been in color, and I dislike the way Blake is being sold as some kind of “classic Hollywood blonde”. Also: photographing Blake in profile is always a strange endeavor considering some of us remember her old nose, and it’s jarring to see her nose job put front and center in an ad campaign. Anyway, as I said in the previous post, Gucci contracted Blake for a commercial as well as a print campaign. Blake “demanded” Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn for the commercial, and she got him. And now that I see the commercial… Michael Bay could have directed this junk. Why did they need Refn? I’ll do the real-time, second-by-second analysis below:

*Blake is in a glass cage. She knows why the glassed-in bird suffocates.

*We get it, honey. You can model strut better than any of Leonardo’s other girls.

*God, her body really is crazy. That dress does look really awesome on her.

*CLOSE YOUR MOUTH.

*I’m meh on her hair. It seems kind of flat.

*For the love of God, CLOSE YOUR MOUTH. Open mouth does not equal “sexy”. You look like a vapid mouth-breather.

*Oh, now she’s model-strutting in the desert. This is the part where I was like, “Huh, why couldn’t Michael Bay do this again?” Because I actually think Bay might have done this better.

*We get it, darling. Gucci Premiere = spontaneous orgasm. That’s the message of the commercial: “Wear Gucci Premiere and you will have an orgasm as you look out of your window and fantasize about model-strutting in the desert.”

*The last shot, where she’s facing and walking toward the camera? Unflattering! All of a sudden, her fabulous body looks really boxy, right?

*WORST VOICEOVER EVER. Good God, this mumbling Valley Girl should never be hired to do voice work. This is what it sounds like phonetically: “Ghuh-chi-premer tha Nuessince forwomn.”

As a palate cleanser, here are some photos of Ed Westwick rocking a onesie, filming Gossip Girl yesterday. Ed Westwick is totally the highlight of this post. That sleazy furball could sell me perfume any day of the week! PS… I have no idea if the onesie is a costume or if that’s just how Ed shows up to work in the morning.

Blake Lively allegedly has put on 10 pounds of “pre-pregnancy” weight

Over the Forth of July holiday, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were (surprise!) photographed together looking very cozy and affectionate and sun-kissed, like they were a J.Crew ad or something. We didn’t have access to those pics – you can see them there. Some people have a theory that Blake arranges certain photo-ops with a particular paparazzo and/or exclusive photo agency – all I know is that we rarely have access to these super-exclusive photos of Blake and Ryan being all kissy and lovey-dovey. Anyway, I brought up that photo set because some people looked at Blake in her retro one-piece swimsuit and thought “Preggo.” The alternate theory, I suppose, is that Blake never works out and it’s starting to catch up to her thighs and hips a little bit (no disrespect – she does seem to have put on a little weight, but she’s still got an incredible figure). Now Star Magazine has another theory – Blake isn’t pregnant… YET. But she will be soon, and she’s already begun to put on weight in anticipation of the conception…?

Blake Lively, 24, has told friends that she purposely put on 10 pounds so she could have a baby as soon as possible with her sexy squeeze, Ryan Reynolds, 35.

“She and Ryan are ready to go for it, even without a wedding,” an insider says. “Ryan has been aching to start a family, so this is his dream come true.”

In fact, one of the reasons he and Scarlett Johansson got divorced was because she wasn’t at all interested in having children. Now he has a partner who’s on the same page.

“They told friends they want lots of children and are ready to get started,” the spy says. “She’s even given up alcohol already.”

Their families are also on board – “Everyone sees a wedding and kids in their near future. Blake wants to be a mom by next year.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition]

When I gave up drinking, I began to lose weight, so I don’t know what’s going on with Blake and her “I gave up alcohol and put on 10 pounds” thing. I think it’s more likely that Ryan and Blake spend their days eating and cooking and boning, and Blake has put on a few “I’m in a good relationship” pounds. Blake is so retro – would she get pregnant without the ring? Isn’t she too old-fashioned for that? Or would she use a pregnancy to get Ryan to give her a ring?
