Stunning news! Well, it surprised me, in any case. Us Weekly is reporting that Leo DiCaprio and Blake Lively are done. Blake has been working in LA and NYC for a few months, while Leo has been in Australia, filming The Great Gatsby. Is it a distance thing? A work schedule thing? Or is it something else? LaineyGossip just reported yesterday that Blake was spotted having dinner with Ryan Reynolds, who she allegedly might have gotten close to when they filmed The Green Lantern. But Us Weekly just makes it sound like it was the distance thing:

After five months together, Blake Lively and Leonardo DiCaprio have parted ways, reps for both stars confirm exclusively to Us Weekly.. The pair “remain friends,” Lively and DiCaprio’s reps added.

First spotted getting cozy while aboard Steven Spielberg’s yacht in Monte Carlo on May 17 during the Cannes Film Festival, the couple embarked on a whirlwind, super-luxe summer romance that spanned the globe. During their time together, the Gossip Girl actress, 24, and Inception star, 36, took their PDA parade to romantic locales ranging from Venice, Italy to Anaheim, Calif. to NYC. In late August, Lively even flew thousands of miles from the U.S. to Sydney, Australia — for a quick weekend — where her beau was filming The Great Gatsby.

Weeks before he and Lively became an item, DiCaprio and model Bar Rafaeli called it quits on their on-and-off, five-year relationship. Back in October 2010, Lively and Gossip Girl costar Penn Badgley ended their three-year romance.

The pair’s recent split is sure to come as a surprise to some DiCaprio pals, one of whom told Us they’d “never seen him like this with a girl.” Back in June, the couple were ensconced in DiCaprio’s L.A. home, where Lively “spent the whole time baking….Leo’s never dated a girl who can cook. And he’s smitten!” The duo also bonded with one another’s parents.

Echoed another insider this summer: “I bet they get engaged in six months.”

As for Lively, she’s long said she never lets public opinion affect her relationships.

“I have a strong sense of myself. That gives me a sense of security, you know? Every relationship you have, you’re learning and growing and taking something from that,” the actress recently told Glamour magazine. “So for me, it’s never been too dramatic of a thing when something ends.”

It’s interesting that both of their reps confirmed it to Us Weekly, right? How do you think it went down? Leo dumped her over the phone and Blake wanted to be the one to announce it, but Leo was like, “No, we’ll both confirm it”? I don’t know. I’m disappointed, though. I think very highly of Blake’s game, and I hoped that she and Leo would make it through the awards season.

Well, he’s 36. Allegedly, he already bought her a Prius, and there were reports that he dropped $70,000 on gifts for Blake while they were in Italy earlier this summer. So what did Leo do for her birthday? He shelled out some cash for a nice piece of jewelry. Not a ring, but it’s good enough.

Blake is a Virgo (like me) – our birthstone is sapphire. It helps that sapphires are one of the prettiest gems (IMO), so I tend to love any story involving the purchase of some kind of sapphire. I really hope that Leo gave her a sapphire something-something, just because I want to imagine him in the jewelry store, telling the salesman about his girlfriend’s birthday. I think Lainey had the exclusive on this a few days ago – Blake Lively flew to Australia just to spend a little time with her boyfriend Leonardo DiCaprio, who is Down Under to film The Great Gatsby. It doesn’t sound like much, but keep in mind several things: one, Blake is a Rules Girl, and traveling thousands of miles for dong has to be against one of the “rules”; two, I don’t think Leo is used to having such demonstrative girlfriends, is he? The kind of girls who fly for eight hours for a booty call? And three, it was Blake’s birthday! All she wanted for her birthday was (Leo’s) dong. I guess she probably wanted to keep an eye on him too, make sure he wasn’t off, boning some Australian randoms.

The manager of the park said: “They both loved the koalas and spent quite a bit of time with Austin, one of our younger koalas. Both Leo and Blake were friendly and inquisitive about the animals. We took them into the dingo enclosure where they met one of our dingo pups called Nala. They weren’t at all afraid of the animals including the young saltwater crocodile and diamond python Cuddles, who we brought out for them to meet. The pair seemed really happy in each other’s company and there was no diva-like behavior from either of them I think Blake especially enjoyed meeting the dingoes, and the baby wombat was a big hit, too. [Leo] asked about our endangered animals, and we made sure to feed the Tasmanian devil while they were there.”

Aw… so Leo took his girl to visit the baby koalas for her birthday, and then he took her to a nice dinner? That’s so… sweet. I’m really starting to believe that Leo is seriously loved up. We’ll see how well this Australian film shoot goes – it could go on forever, and Blake might get stuck in NYC and LA, and then their relationship could falter. We’ll see!

Many people think that Blake Lively and Ben Affleck had something going on while they filmed The Town together two years ago. The rumors about an on-set affair persisted to the point where during The Town’s promotion last year, Blake and Ben were never positioned together, in the same space and time, and I feel like Blake was asked not to participate in a large part of the promotional tour. Then there was this interview that Ben did with Blake for Interview Magazine. That piece kind of sealed it for me – they had sex, IMO. And it was torrid.

What do The Rules say about your boyfriend of four months buying you a hybrid? Is there a “rule” for large gifts that don’t come from Tiffany’s? The Mail reports that Leonardo DiCaprio has given Blake the ultimate token of his affection: a Prius! It’s like an environmental sonnet! Seriously, though, I would love it if a guy gave me a hybrid. I hope Blake is excited about this. I hope she jumped up and down and clapped and squealed. Of course, Leo might have only given Blake a Prius because her old ride was clunky and dated. And she had an SUV too! (Ha, Penn Badgley joke!) Bad, bad Blake!

Leonardo DiCaprio has sealed his love for Blake Lively – by buying her an eco-friendly Prius car. The Inception star was said to be horrified that the actress was driving around Los Angeles in a gas guzzling Range Rover.

DiCaprio, who runs his own foundation promoting environmental issues, is said to have bought Lively a black Prius costing over $40,000. The eco friendly hybrid car gets up to 50 miles to the gallon compared to an average of 20 for the Range Rover.

DiCaprio is well known in Hollywood for pushing green causes. At the Oscars two years ago, the 36 year old arrived in a Prius as part of a campaign organised by Global Green USA to highlight the problem of global warming.

He was one of the first Hollywood stars to buy a Prius calling it a ‘step in the right direction’

The actor added in an interview: ‘It’s a gasoline-electric midsize car that gets about 50 miles per gallon. We have the technology to make every car produced in America today just as clean, cheap and efficient.’

Last week it was revealed he had taken delivery of a $100,000 hybrid supercar – the 2012 Fisker Karma.

The hybrid car can go from 0-60 miles per hour in under six seconds with a top speed of 125 miles per hour – yet still return 100 miles to the gallon.

DiCaprio and 23 year old Lively, star of Gossip Girl and The Town, have been dating for several months following the actor’s split with model Bar Rafaeli.

I looked into this a bit further (I googled), and I found out that Leo is sort of known for giving hybrids as gifts. A few years ago, he allegedly bought hybrids for all of his immediate family, and his assistant, and his then-girlfriend…? Bar got a hybrid? Ruh-roh. THAT is not a good sign. That lessens the specialness of the gift if Leo also gave his ex the same car. Maybe he let Blake pick out the color…?

As I was reading this story in Star Magazine, I was struck by a weird thought: “What happens if Blake Lively is the one to get Leonardo DiCaprio down the aisle?” Wouldn’t that be crazy? People mocked them, people created elaborate conspiracy theories about them, but what if – in the end – Blake and Leo are actually happy together. Happy enough to get married? Happy enough for Blake to have his baby? Considering Blake is allegedly a Rules Girl, she might actually be pushing for marriage. That’s one of the “Rules” right? If a man doesn’t propose after a year (I think it’s a year), then you’ve got to dump him. So if Leo doesn’t propose by next May, will Blake sack up and dump him? I don’t know. I still don’t know how to read this couple. I hope they make it through the fall and on to the awards season, just because I want to see them on some red carpets together. The thought of it is making me giddy. Anyway, Star Magazine claims that Blake’s magical biscuits have already convinced Leonardo to go apartment-hunting together in NYC:

My guess is that Blake’s not pushing the “let’s get an apartment together” issue this soon, but you never know. I was glancing through The Daily Mail’s headlines last night, and I came upon a header that made me LMAO: “Blake Lively likes to play by The Rules: Actress ‘snared Leo di Caprio using cult dating manual’”. Do you remember The Rules? It was a book published in the 1990s, and it was billed as a “guide” for women to get their man by basically playing hard to get. “The Rules” included stuff like “Possess a sense of confidence and radiance that permeates your being from head to toe” and “If he never asks you out, he’s not interested.” What else? “Men should always pursue women first” and “If he does not call, he is not interested.” There are also rules about when (and how) to put out, how you should always be mysterious and I’m not sure if you’re ever allowed to call a guy, ever. I’m sure there are those ladies who swear by it, but so many of the “rules” feel archaic, and they put women in the position of never acting on their own desires or needs, but to always focus on the game. Anyway, The Mail claims that Blake dusted off an old copy and used it on Leonardo DiCaprio – and IT WORKED.

She’s a Hollywood actress with her own career and millions in the bank. But when it comes to love, it seems Blake Lively prefers the old-fashioned approached. The Gossip Girl star is rumored to have turned to cult dating manual ‘The Rules’ to hook Leonardo di Caprio.

Is it possible? Sure, why not? I think it’s more likely that Blake is just playing her own hard-too-get game and she isn’t flipping through a copy of The Rules. I definitely think Blake slept with Leonardo before he and Bar were officially over – but I’d be willing to bet that she parceled out her biscuits sparsely, encouraging him to end it with Bar and then “rewarding” him once he ended it. Or maybe I’m just projecting – my own set of “rules” involves treating men like dogs, a reward-and-punishment-based system based on their behavior. GOOD DOG.

I do buy that Blake is playing the “woman of mystery” thing now that she’s got Leo – and I think she’s playing it really, really well. She’s being elusive enough that he chases her, but not so off the radar that he forgets about her and loses interest. It even seems like Leo is (gasp) following Blake around, according to HER schedule. Once again, like a broken record: this girl has got hustle.

By the way, one of my favorite pieces of dating advice is still the one from Samantha Jones on Sex & the City, and it always belongs in the Leo-Blake stories: “Don’t play hard to get with a man who is hard to get.”

What is with the leather-as-summerwear trend lately? It’s so hot, the last thing I would want to do is wear anything made of heavy leather. Last week, it was Kelly Brook’s unfortunate high-waisted leather shorts, and now it’s Blake Lively in an orange Gucci Resort 2012 dress at the Teen Choice Awards. Her hustle might be one of the best in the business, but you know the girl is sweating her ass off underneath that dress. You know it’s not pretty, no matter how much powder she’s using (ick, the powder probably turned into a paste when it mixed with leather-sweat).

As for the color… it’s kind of the same problem Cameron Diaz had in her beige dress. Camy’s dress was beige and her skin was kind of orange. Here, Blake only has a light tan, but the dress is orange. Camy and Blake are both orange and beige blobs, just in different ways. That being said, I think Blake comes close to pulling off orange. I wouldn’t think she could do it, but then again, why would you want to?

Leonardo wasn’t at the Teen Choice Awards, by the way. But before Blake powdered up to shimmy into the leather dress, she spent the day with Leo in LA. They were photographed hanging out and going to lunch – you can see the photos here.

Oh, and the shoes are Louboutin, and the jewelry is Lorraine Schwartz. Too many diamonds for the Teen Choice Awards, and the earrings are fug.

I keep seeing photos of the cast of Gossip Girl back at work in NYC, so it’s interesting to me that Blake is in LA filming this movie. I’m sure she cleared everything with Gossip Girl producers and they made allowances for her in the schedule and everything, I’m not saying that. I’m saying that the next move for Blake is for her to find an excuse to leave Gossip Girl for some reason. She won’t go the Dame Katherine Heigl route, which is to bitch and whine and act unprofessional until the writers and producers are simply fed up – but I do think Blake is looking for a reason to leave her “TV Girl” career behind and become a big-time movie star.

Meanwhile, Blake is enjoying her time in LA. According to Page Six, she and Leonardo DiCaprio had another quiet date, this time with tacos:

“They shared a plate of tacos and sat in a booth side by side,” a spy said. “They were whispering very quietly. No one bothered them.”

Nice. Quiet. Low-key. (Cheap?) Interesting. I still don’t know if this is going to last for much longer – I’m not getting a sixth-gossip-sense feeling about them, like I am with a couple like Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston. I feel strongly that Theroniston will make it into 2012 – but with DiLively? Will there be a Blanardo in 2012? I hope Blake’s hustle is as good as I think it is. I really, really want to see them on a red carpet together.
