Pauly Shore amazes everyone by declaring that he dated Kylie Minogue

Pauly Shore and Kylie Minogue dated for a short time after they met on the set of his 1997 movie, Biodome, which Minogue has called her “worst career move.” The two didn’t last once Minogue figured out who Shore was and went back to England, and Shore is still crying into his beer over it:

Shore says, “I fell in love with her… big time. I didn’t know who she was and she didn’t know who I was and we just had a great time together. I just fell in love with her personality. I’m like, ‘Oh my God, this girl’s adorable.’”

The couple spent a romantic holiday in the Bahamas together, and then Shore took the singer to Las Vegas for the first time. He adds, “She loved it because it was so cheesy. She was like laughing at the whole thing.”

The couple tried to maintain their love affair, but distance eventually drove them apart. Shore says, “She was over (in London) and I was over in Los Angeles and I guess she started dating some other guy and broke my heart.”

Even though it still breaks his heart, Pauly should be commended for being able to talk about it nine years later, just like Angelina Jolie’s ex, Jenny Shimizu.

Minogue is doing well as she recovers from breast cancer. She has written a comeback album called “Lessons” that should be out in 2007. She also plans to sing a duet with her boyfriend Olivier Martinez.

Shore had somewhat of a comeback with the indie flick “Pauly Shore is Dead” that came out in 2004, and a 2005 TBS reality show, Minding the Store that centered around Shore trying to run his family’s comedy club.

Here is Minogue vacationing in France. [via] The inset picture is a small screencap from Biodome in which Shore’s character grabs Minogue’s butt. Shore is kissing Joey Lauren Adams in other picture, but it’s so small that it’s hard to tell. Shore is playing his 90s typecast slacker role while Minogue is a foreign scientist on the film. We’re sorry for knowing this. Minogue was not in Son in Law, so obviously we just put her head on top of another actress’ body. Screencap [via]

Nick Lachey will not be seeking alimony and says he tried to win Jessica back

In a new interview in Rolling Stone Nick Lachey comes off as a real stand-up guy.

He says that he had trouble in his marriage with Jessica Simpson due to the way that they were typecast in their reality show “Newlyweds.” Lachey suggests that their roles as the ditzy blonde and the good guy influenced the way they interacted off screen.

He also reveals that Jessica’s decision to divorce was completely unexpeted and caught him off guard:

On November 22nd, 2005, Jessica Simpson informed her husband that she was leaving him, a move that shocked him not because he denied their marriage was foundering, but because he believed they were choosing to inch toward survival. “I never wanted to be a divorce,” he says wryly. “I wanted us to be happy. I guess we differed on strategy.”

The two had just come from having dinner after the American Music Awards.

“The meal was really nice, actually,” he says. “We had a good time.”

After dinner, they stopped by a friend’s house to pick up their dog, then headed for home. On the way, Simpson asked if Lachey was still coming back to Texas with her for the Thanksgiving holiday.

“We already had our plane tickets,” he says. “So I didn’t understand the question. I said, ‘Of course.’ And she said something about how we hadn’t really been getting along and then said, ‘I think I want a divorce.’

“That blindsided me,” he confesses. “I basically said, ‘Please, let’s sleep on it.’ But when we woke up the next day, Wednesday morning, she was still sure.”

Nick cries when he talks about his marriage, saying he would have done anything to make it work:

“It breaks my heart that I couldn’t make Jessica happy,” he mumbles, his chin pressed into his chest. “I wanted to be everything to my wife. I wanted her to look at me with love in her eyes, the way she did at the beginning, and have her feel like I was the most wonderful, awe-inspiring man on the planet. And when that stopped, it was the worst feeling in the world.”

He wipes his face, eyes to nose to chin.

“I’d marry her all over again,” he says softly. “Because I still love her. It would be a lot easier to walk away if I didn’t.”

And then the tears start again.

He also says that he doesn’t understand Joe Simpson, Jessica and Ashley’s controlling father and manager, but does not blame him for his divorce, simply stating that Jessica “is a grown woman.” He says that Joe never liked him and was “an influence” in his marriage, but that he did not cause their split.

Lachey refuses to address the rumors that Simpson cheated on him while they were married. He says that Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, whom Jessica dated up until a short while ago, approached him in a club to say that nothing happened between him and Jessica while they were married. Lachey says he believes him.

Despite reports to the contrary, he has refused to file for spousal support and says that he will not be suing Jessica for alimony!

“I haven’t requested alimony at all,” Lachey says adamantly. “I have no intention of filing for spousal support. And I’ve been clear with Jessica about not wanting it.”

And even more touching, he says he visited Jessica at her parents house and tried to win her back:

“On the day she filed for divorce, I drove to her parents’ house and tried to change her mind. I had done the research and I had the number of the best marriage counselor in town. I thought we owed it to ourselves to try with a third party. You get to a point where there is so much animosity you can’t hear each other. But she didn’t want to go.”

Lachey still has awkward conversations with Simpson on the phone every few days.

Lachey seems thoughful, gracious and introspective in the interview, refusing to blame Simpson for the divorce and never admitting her infidelity. Given his side of the story, it sounds to us like Simpson was too immature to deal with the normal problems in a long term relationship.

He is filming a new reality series for MTV that will focus on the making of his new album. After the responsible way he’s dealing with his divorce in the press, his career is sure to benefit.

Here are pictures from a 2005 photoshoot in happier times. [via]

James Blunt breaks up with his gullible girlfriend over the phone

At the end of last month, James Blunt was said to have cheated on his girlfriend, Camilla Boler, with British socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson. Boer initially believed Blunt’s account that the rumor was untrue, but now that Palmer-Tomkinson has admitted the affair, Boler realizes she was taken for a fool and that Blunt really did cheat. In typical passive aggressive fashion, Blunt didn’t break up with Boler until he absolutely had to, and he did it over the phone:

James Blunt’s ex-girlfriend Camilla Boler has confirmed reports their two-year relationship has come to an end after the singer admitted having an affair with British socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson.

The Back To Bedlam phenomenon split with blonde singer Boler during a trans-Atlantic phonecall last week - after Palmer-Tomkinson openly admitted the fling.

Blunt has also been romantically linked to Czech supermodel Petra Nemcova and The Pussycat Dolls singer Jessica Sutta since embarking on a nine-month world tour, but Boler insisted their relationship was still strong.

Boler, who has now fled to Spain to escape the pain of the split, has labelled the singer a selfish “egomaniac” and admits it “breaks her heart” to hear his hit song You’re Beautiful.

It breaks everyone else’s heart to have to hear You’re Beautiful too.

Here’s Blunt performing in Sydney on April 13th.

Why Celebritiy Marriages are Doomed

Cindy Adams has the highlights of an upcoming Glamour magazine article she wrote that unveils the reasons behind most celebrity breakups. They’re typical but interesting:

  • The “X” factor. As in excess. Too much of everything. Twenty mil a movie, plus points plus a hunk of the marketing, overseas rights, video rights, DVDs, Oscar goody bags, etc.
  • Second “X” factor: sex. Too many gorgeous bodies. A preacher says, “Do you take this woman?” whereupon Brad Pitt tells Jennifer Aniston, “On second thought, I’ll take that one.”
  • On a set, they’re serviced like racing cars. At home, tough for any spouse to compete with wardrobe, makeup person, hairdresser, assistant, script girl, gopher, director.
  • Playing assassins and action heros, living, breathing and working in drama and fantasy, they need that same breakneck excitement in their personal lives.
  • The ego factor. When one’s career eclipses the other, you’re talking “Danger - TNT.”
  • Adams says that New York-based celebrity couples fare better, and cites examples like Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker, and Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins. Based on some of Parker’s recent statements, we’re not so sure.

In “The Evolution of Desire: Strategies of Human Mating” evolutionary psychologist Richard Buss outlines the reasons why people stray: men need to spread their seed and woman want a well-off man to provide for them. These are prototypical gender-based strategies that people use to increase their chances of passing on their genes to offspring.

Jennifer Aniston had yet to bear biological children for Brad Pitt after four years of marriage so he moved on. According to anthropologists, four years is the average amount of time that a childless relationship lasts.

When looked at from an evolutionary perspective, it’s not surprising that Hollywood marriages don’t last. There’s a lot of temptation around and not much of a stigma attached to divorce.

    Mischa and Cisco: finally over?

Mischa Barton has stopped smoking up long enough to realize that she’s out of Cisco Adler’s league. Adler was said to be unhappy with Barton’s partying, which led the actress to break up with the Whitestarr frontman:

The actress, who plays Marissa Cooper in popular teen drama ‘The O.C.’, has allegedly called time on the pair’s romance after the Whitestarr rocker complained she was partying too much.

According to Britain’s Daily Star newspaper, Barton, 20, was less than impressed when Adler, 26, told her he was unhappy with the amount of time she was spending with close friend Nicole Richie and dumped him.

The two were said to be engaged last fall, but that seems to have been short lived. Page Six, hardly known for its accuracy, reported that they first split on February 26. They were spotted together since, suggesting they had reconciled.

This time Barton seems to have wised up. She’s hardly as foolish as most other actresses, and Adler must have had some redeeming qualities, but she’s likely to move on to better fare now that she’s single.

Barton is also said to want to leave “The O.C.” now that the show is not doing as well in the ratings.

Here is Mischa in New York on March 31st, and in California last week. And a glimpse at what she’s missing in these pictures of Cisco Adler performing at the Celebrity Rock and Bowl on April 6th.

Jessica Simpson has no identity of her own

Jessica Simpson needs to work on getting her own identity. First she admits that she apes Angelina Jolie in everything she does - and poorly, we might add - and now she’s copying her estranged husband, Nick Lachey, by chronicling her breakup pain in her new album:

The singer’s long-delayed album, And the Band Played On, was originally due in November but was pushed back shortly before he news of her split from husband Nick Lachey was announced (see “It’s Official: Jessica Simpson And Nick Lachey Split”). Up to that point, Simpson planned on making the album a country-club combo (see “Jessica Simpson Mixes Country Flavor With Club Tracks On Upcoming LP”). But now that she’s gone through so much, she’s reconsidered what kind of statement she wants to make.

“I think that with my music, you can’t help but tell people a story about your life,” Simpson said. “I believe that every artist, that’s their artistry — it comes out of them naturally, through lyrics, through music, through instrumentation. So with this next record, you will see and hear a lot of things I’ve been going through. And if that can offer any inspiration to anybody else going through the same situations, so be it. That’s why I’m here.”

It makes sense that she would want to sing about her pain, but it’s more likely that she heard what Nick’s new album was all about and thought it sounded like a good idea.

Here’s Jessica Simpson on April 30th at a grocery store in Sana Fe, NM, where’s she was filming “Employee of the Month.” She seems to be back in NY at this point.

Eminem’s wife says he’s back on drugs

Eminem’s estranged wife, Kim Mathers, spoke to a Detroit radio station yesterday morning about the couples second divorce. Eminem filed for divorce from Mathers after just three months. Mathers said she hadn’t spoken to him in over six weeks, but that the divorce was unexpected. She also claimed that he is addicted to pills again:

He’s having problems with, you know, his problem that he had,” she said, an apparent reference to the sleep-medication dependency for which Eminem was hospitalized last summer. “I was hoping we could get counseling and work it out, you know? …

“Right after he came home from his rehab, we started to have a few problems, and I thought it was going to be in our best interest to delay the wedding,” said Mathers, who was remarried Jan. 14 to her high school sweetheart.

“But he really pushed it and I thought it was really going to be something that worked this time,” she said.

Eminem, however, has not spoken with her in about six weeks, she said, and surprised her by having her served with divorce papers.

“I don’t really necessarily want to get divorced,” said Mathers, whose first marriage to Eminem lasted from 1999 to 2001. “I was hoping he was going to come home and say, `I got us a counselor, let’s go.’ But you know it didn’t work out that way. I got an attorney at the door instead.”

For his part, Eminem has released a statement saying that Kim’s claim that he’s back on drugs is not true and that she knew he was divorcing her ahead of time:

“First, her allegations regarding my status post-rehab are both untrue and unfortunate. Second, she was aware that I was filing for divorce. We both tried to give our marriage another chance and quickly realized that a wedding doesn’t fix the underlying problems.”

Mathers has had her own problems with drug addiction and has a lengthy arrest record that includes allegations of assault, cocaine possession, and drunk driving.

Everyone knows that you can’t get back together with your ex and expect it to work unless you both get serious therapy. The same problems come up again in different painful ways. His wife realized that they needed counseling, but Eminem was unwilling to do it. It sounds like he was just stubborn, and thought he could get back with Mathers for the sake of his daughter without doing any of the emotional work required. It’s ironic that he can tell the world his most intimate problems through his lyrics but is too much of a pussy to talk to a shrink.

Eminem and Kim file for divorce after 3 months

Eminem has filed for divorce from Kim Mathers after a mere three months of marriage. It was his second marriage to the mother of his 10 year-old daughter, Hallie. Eminem should have studied his own lyrics, because he revealed much about his private life and his dysfunctional relationship with Mathers in his music:

You really fucked me Kim, you really did a number on me…

I hate you, i hate you, i swear to god i hate you…

No one can hear you, now shut the FUCK up and get what’s coming to you.
You were supposed to love me.
    Now bleed bitch, bleed!

Eminem may have also revealed the reason why he reunited with Kim - fear of mortality and a feeling of responsibility for his daughter - in the lyrics to his single “When I’m gone”:

“Daddy it’s me! Help mummy her wrists are bleedin’”

But baby we’re in Sweden, how did you get to Sweden?!

“I followed you daddy, you told me that you wern’t leavin

You lied to me dad, and now you make mummy sad

And I bought you this coin

It says ‘number 1 dad’, that’s all I wanted

I just wanna give you this coin

I get the point, fine, me and mummy are goin”

    But baby wait-

“its too late dad, you made the choice. Now go out there and show ‘em you love ‘em more than us.”

Hopefully Eminem’s daughter is cushioned from the blow of her parents’ second divorce and this is not too hard on her.

Eminem and Mathers were married for the first time in 1999 and split up in 2001. Eminem received two years probation for pistol whipping a man he saw kissing Mathers outside a club after their first breakup in 2001.

Teri Hatcher: I’m not with Ryan Seacrest and it was a publicity stunt

In a move we never saw coming, Teri Hatcher has said that she’s not with Ryan Seacrest. I made up the part about her admitting that it was a publicity stunt. Hatcher was at the Comedy for a Cure benefit for Tuberous Sclerosis on April 2nd and found a business card for a singles dating service in one of the purses she donated for auction. She joked about its meaning, saying it signifies that she’s still single:

Everyone clearly knows about my pathetic, single, dating life right?!”

In response to recent photos that were captured of Hatcher and the American Idol host kissing and reportedly dating, she said, “Well, I guess what’s caught on film is caught on film and it would be hard for me to stand here and say that it wasn’t me. I’m not a liar and I wouldn’t do that, but I could say that I could still use the business card!” When asked if she was attached to Seacrest, she added, “I’m not.”

She skirted the question by saying “she’s not a liar” and wouldn’t “say that it wasn’t me” but still maintained that she’s single. That’s a strange way to deny that you’re with someone. If it didn’t work out between the two of them, wouldn’t she say “We were looking for different things?” In fact, she could have used that excuse anyway!

Seacrest was seen on Saturday taking in a basketball game with Hatcher’s costar, Eva Longoria. The two cheered on Longoria’s boyfriend, at the Spurs game in San Antonio, TX.

Matt LeBlanc and his wife, Melissa McNight, have split up after three years of marriage. LeBlanc filed divorce papers in LA this week, and LeBlanc’s reps confirmed the news.

The couple has a daughter, Marina, 2, who is said to have a neurological disorder that causes her to suffer from seizures. LeBlanc has two stepchildren from a previous marriage.

LeBlanc’s sitcom, Joey, has not been officially cancelled, but is expected to be let go by NBC as it has suffered from poor ratings.
