Britney Spears to shoot new music video

Britney Spears is working on a new music video for her upcoming single, “Radar.” She will be filming in England next week, and the NY Post reports that the video will feature Britney and her friends looking for a guy she met at a club. Britney is co-directing and “wants to make sure it’s exactly right,” according to her manager, Larry Rudolph.

Meanwhile Britney shot a cameo in the Pussycat Dolls video for the song “When I Grow Up” on Wednesday. She filmed a scene in which she’s driving a car and waving at the Dolls as they pass. The Dolls are singing in the car, which is a blue convertible Chevy Impala, and catch Britney’s eye. It’s described as a “very short sequence,” according to an insider quoted by US Weekly. Britney is said to have had “a lot of fun with it.”

It’s nice to hear stories about Britney getting back to work instead of learning every detail of her personal life. There haven’t even been many paparazzi photos of her recently. Maybe this is the time for her comeback and it will be one that seems gradual and natural for her.

Britney is shown at Christian Audigier’s 50th birthday party on 5/23/08, thanks to WENN.

K-Fed named “Father of the Year” by club

I could barely bring myself to write this article; and then I realized: if K-Fed can do this, Britney can too. Federline has been named Father of the Year by Prive Las Vegas. Is this a joke, you ask? Perhaps the club is hoping to get a discount in K-Fed’s hosting fees? Who knows, but either way the man’s going to have a new trophy… or maybe a plaque… or some sort of certificate… okay it’s likely just a “World’s Greatest Dad” mug, but it’ll be proudly displayed somewhere in the Federline mansion, I’m sure.

Kevin Federline is the new father of the year!

Just in time for Father’s Day, Prive Las Vegas will award the proud papa of four his “father of the year” status at a party he is slated to host there June 13.

Sources tell PEOPLE he will be awarded the title during a presentation at the club.

The unofficial honor is Federline’s second such recognition in a relatively short time. Last November, Details magazine also anointed him father of the year – an honor he shared with onetime Anna Nicole Smith boyfriend Larry Birkhead.

[From People]

While this seems like a great big giant joke, it’s pretty damn real. But there is some hope here: K-Fed has become a much better father. We can argue all day about why, but the point is by all accounts he’s been there for his kids lately. Two years ago, if someone had told me K-Fed would get an award for anything other than “Biggest Wife Beater Collection” I would have told them to give the crack pipe back to Tatum O’Neal and leave me alone. Which would have been quite prophetic of me, given that we’re talking two years in the past.

But anyway, if K-Fed can become father of the year, imagine what Britney can do. By this logic, she could easily be president or an astronaut within the next five years. See, there’s hope for us all…

Here’s K-Fed celebrating his 30th birthday at Pure nightclub in Las Vegas on March 21st. Images thanks to WENN.

Supernanny offers to help Britney

Apparently it is not May. I was wrong. Somehow I was thinking we’d moved forward, but it appears that it’s actually still February. Why? Because Supernanny Jo Frost has jumped on the bandwagon and offered to help Britney Spears. Unfortunately that bandwagon left the… wherever they keep bandwagons… back in February. Remember, when every celeb and their cousin was offering to help Britney Spears? Because why wouldn’t she want to move in with Heidi Klum? Or be tutored by Ellen DeGeneres? Or go on vacation with Mel Gibson? Alright that one actually happened.

But it was getting pretty darn annoying, all those random celebs saying they wanted to help her, but no one doing anything. Just looking for their friendly sound bite. Though she’s a little late with the offer, Frost is definitely not too late – and she’s someone who actually has something concrete and useful to offer Brit.

She’s no stranger to strangers’ homes – but now Supernanny Jo Frost has her eyes on a high profile family: the Spears clan. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Frost offers her childrearing expertise to Britney Spears. “I do believe she loves her children very much and I’d be more than happy to help her,” she says in an interview scheduled to air Friday.

“To be able to put her on the right track and feel more empowered as a parent.” Frost adds, “Importance in motherhood is about really relating to other mothers, being able to have support groups and it’s about Britney being in a place where she’s feeling secure and confident in herself, so that she is able to take care of her little ones and give them what they need from her, which is their mother around.”

Frost’s hit ABC show takes to her people’s homes across the country, where she helps parents deal with their children’s behavioral issues. Frost tells ET the key to her advice comes from imbuing parents with “the confidence to raise their baby in a healthy and content way.”

[From People]

That all sounds like it could actually be really useful for Brit. I’ve only caught the show once, but I was impressed. Though more than anything I was shocked at the family. Who could be that dumb? How could any parent behave that way? And I’ve definitely thought that about Britney Spears in the past. It could be the perfect fit. Hopefully Frost is offering out of the goodness of her heart, and not for an episode of her show. Because something tells me even Britney Spears is smart enough not to do that. Or at least her handlers are.

Britney’s judge says her “medical condition remains the same”

Britney’s father’s conservatorship lasts until July 31 of this year. In a hearing yesterday, in which she was not present, her court-appointed attorney said that it’s best if she doesn’t get involved in the legal decisions regarding her affairs and implied that it could be detrimental to her mental health. The judge agreed and said that “her medical condition remains the same,” whatever that means:

Neither Brit nor her father Jamie Spears were present at Thursday’s hearing, although commissioner Goetz approved a request for Jamie to receive more money per week in order to continue caring for Britney.

The singer’s court-appointed attorney Sam Ingham told the court today he believed it was better that Britney not participate in the legal affairs of her person and estate, adding it “in fact could be harmful to her to participate.”

After reviewing her medical status, the commissioner agreed, saying, “Her medical condition remains the same. Though there have been changes in her medication, I think in terms of her diagnosis, it’s not complete.”

The commissioner will review Brit’s condition again on June 17. In the meantime, a trial is set for July 31 to determine whether to dissolve or extend the conservatorship.

[From OK! Magazine]

Is it in Britney’s best interest that these details be given to the press? I don’t understand all the legal implications in her case, and maybe a special ruling needs to be made to seal each hearing or something, but it seems like this is information that the public should not be privy to. It’s also just some lawyer and judge’s opinion and it’s not like they’re doctors. I just find it annoying that this information is out there and that it might somehow interfere with the progress she seems to be making. It seems like this type of news being published is could be just as detrimental to her mental health as having her get involved in the legal progress.

What a bummer it must be to start feeling better and then to have some lawyer you didn’t even hire say you’re still having trouble. She does need her dad’s guidance and control, but she could do without having the court’s decisions broadcast.

Britney Spears rumored for role of Sandy in ‘Grease’

I have a theory that if Ashlee Simpson can do it, anyone can. If Ashlee can scale a mountain, anyone can. If she can marry Pete Wentz, anyone can. Mind you, that doesn’t mean anyone should. And if Ashlee can take on Broadway, anyone can. And with that in mind, Britney Spears is reportedly being considered for the role of Sandy in the West End’s production of Grease.

Britney Spears has been tipped for a role on Broadway - playing Sandy in the stage version of Grease.
The singer proved her acting credentials with a highly successful stint in U.S. sitcom How I Met Your Mother and was recently linked with a move to the London stage.
Spears was reportedly in talks to star in a West End production of Tennessee Williams’ play A Streetcar Named Desire - playing the lead role of Blanche DuBois.
And now the Toxic hitmaker is once again rumoured to be considering a turn on stage - this time in hit musical Grease.
A source tells British newspaper Metro, “The producers were bouncing around the idea of casting Britney in the role of Sandy.
“They’re recasting the roles in July and they thought that Britney looked like a Sandy. She would be terrific.”

[From PR-Inside]

Britney might actually do better on the stage than she did on the small screen. I thought her acting was pretty uncomfortable and her delivery pretty stilted when she guest starred on How I Met Your Mother. But Britney is used to performing live on stage, and with some strong coaching she might be a pretty good fit for Grease.

This isn’t the first time Brit’s been rumored to be considering the stage. Last week she had dinner with George Maloof, Jr. the owner of the Palms hotel and casino in Las Vegas. The National Enquirer thinks she’s planning on making her comeback with a Vegas stage show.

Apparently Brit’s not sold yet - the couple good reviews she got for How I Met Your Mother have led her to consider her own television show. PLEASE DON’T DO IT!!

Coming this fall … Britney Spears, the sitcom?

The troubled pop star is reportedly interested in capitalizing on her “How I Met Your Mother” guest-starring success with a TV show of her own.

Spears had a meeting Wednesday with a big time producer about possible TV projects, TMZ.com reports. Brit would star in and possibly produce a show.

Sources told the site that the singer and her posse had a “serious” meeting with Roy Bank, President of Merv Griffin Entertainment, to discuss a move to the small screen. Among other ideas, the concept of a music show was thrown around.

[From the New York Daily News]

I think of the two options, the stage would be a much better fit for Britney. She’ll get to do the same performance over and over again, which seems to be a good idea for her. Practice makes perfect and all that. And if she doesn’t get it quite right every now and then, the entire country isn’t watching her, and it probably won’t end up on YouTube.

I’m still rather shocked that she got decent reviews for her television acting. I assumed people were just trying to encourage her to keep moving forward and such. Apparently it opened some doors for her. Which is great. But I still think a return to live performing would be her best bet.

Michael Jackson parties with Britney; disappoints crowd

Michael Jackson briefly came out of the woodwork this weekend to celebrate friend Christian Audigier’s 50th birthday in Los Angeles. The party was attended by some major showbiz heavyweights, including Britney Spears. That’s right, Britney and Michael were in the same room, and the universe did NOT implode. That’s a lot of potential crazy within 100 yards, easily enough to knock the earth off its axis.

Despite the potential hazards to humanity, the party went off without a hitch, with celebrities like Fergie, Pam Anderson, and Snoop Dogg also in attendance. However everyone was disappointed in the King of Pop, who failed to perform at the event – choosing to mutter a few words into a microphone and then exit hastily.

The crowd went wild as Michael Jackson strode purposefully on stage and picked up a microphone. Was this the moment he was going to break into song and end his years of silence? Er, no. The fallen star just muttered a few words… then slunk back into his self-imposed obscurity.

The huge anti-climax came at an exclusive showbiz party in Los Angeles to mark fashion designer Christian Audigier’s 50th birthday. A-list guests - including Britney Spears and Pamela Anderson - went into a frenzy as Audigier introduced the “King of Pop”. But all they got as Jacko, 49, stepped onto the platform was a whispered, “Hello”. He added politely: “Christian is the King of Fashion” before turning on his heels and trouping off.

An insider said: “Everyone went mad when he grabbed the microphone. The mood was electric. But sadly there was no impromptu gig. It was a shame because he looked in pretty good shape. He was obviously just putting in an appearance for his old pal Christian.”

[From the Mirror]

The Daily Mail notes that Britney was at the party, escorted by her father Jaime Spears and agent Jason Trawick. Fergie performed and Pamela Anderson gave a speech… which I’m guessing was super inspiring. But she did manage to flash the crowd – and nothing inspires like Pam Anderson’s ladybits. I didn’t realize that Britney’s dad was monitoring her so closely that he was actually her date to events. Hopefully he doesn’t go all Joe Simpson on her.

Michael Jackson disappointing isn’t really anything exciting, in and of itself. He’s not exactly the sort to surprise everyone and whip out a performance. Though apparently he did whip off his face mask for a while – and really, that’s about all we can hope for from the guy.

Here’s Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush, Christian Audigier and family, Fergie, Alessandra Ambrosio, Pamela Anderson at Audigier’s birthday party at the Petersen Automotive museum in Los Angeles on Friday. Images thanks to WENN.

Is there a Britney Spears sex tape coming? Plus Adnan is back with his wife

I know we’ve heard this one before, on multiple occasions and involving at least three different guys. (Not at the same time, just to clarify.) But this week’s National Enquirer, my favorite trashy gossip rag, says that paparazzo Adnan Ghalib indeed has a sex tape he made with Britney, and is just waiting for the most lucrative moment to release it. And they have enough specific details about the date the tape was made, where it was shot, and what it contains that this comes off as plausible:

The source, who talked exclusively to the Enquirer, claims that the videtape was made in a $235-a-night junior suite at the Rosarito Beach Hotel. [during their Mexican vacation in January]

“Word is that the video starts with Britney undressing,” said an insider. “She was wearing some cheap clothes that she bought down there in Rosarito.”

The sex wasn’t “particularly kinky,” says the insider, but Britney allegedly wears a pink wig throughout the video.

“Adnan tells her to take it off at one point, and she says coyly, ‘Take what off? There’s nothing left to take off.’”

According to the insider, Adnan, 35 had no intention of keeping the tape locked away, and someone is willing to pay millions for it.

The insider adds they may be waiting for the perfect time before releasing the tape.

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, May 26, 2008]

For Britney’s sake I hope this isn’t true, because if it does exist you known Adnan is trying to get paid for it. They say that the best moment to release the tape may be when Britney is back on top again, if that happens, and when her long-anticipated comeback is in full force.

According to Mike Walker’s column in the same edition of the National Enquirer, Adnan has gone crawling back to his wife after two all-too-public affairs, one with Britney and another with a 20 year-old model who had a boyfriend at the time.

Britney is now on vacation in Costa Rica with her neighbor Mel Gibson and her dad, Jamie. She is also rumored to be pregnant for the third time.

Britney and Adnan are shown on 1/30/08 and 1/28/08, thanks to WENN.

Another awkward performance from Britney Spears on HIMYM

I really don’t want to lay into Britney Spears. I feel like there is this unacknowledged agreement in the media that we all treat her with kid gloves right now, because she’s not falling apart as badly as she was. In fact you could almost say that she’s pulling her life together. And I am nothing if not a big supporter of the underdog. I love hearing about the girl with the drug problem who ended up going to Yale. And for Britney Spears, getting to be on How I Met Your Mother TWICE is pretty much her equivalent. However to be honest, I think she got into college because of her money or her name, or maybe slept with the dean or something. Because she was not competing with the rest of the students.

Though Brit seemed to get some decent reviews for her first performance, I thought she ranged from stilted and awkward to cheesy and overdone. This time around more reviewers seemed to be honest about her performance - it was sub par at best. the writers gave her a few more lines and made her more integral to the story – definitely a big mistake. To be fair to Britney, How I Met Your Mother seems to be suffering from some strike-induced stress, because it hasn’t been quite up to par lately. If you just started watching it for the first time because of Britney, it’d be fair to think it was mediocre at best. But it actually is one of only three great sitcoms left on the air in this pathetic age of reality crapivision. The other two being the illustrious Office and 30 Rock.

Bringing Britney back onto the show reeked of a desperation that How I Met Your Mother should not have bowed to. They clearly shoehorned her in at the last minute. Several reviews noted that she and Neil Patrick Harris had absolutely no chemistry. Harris told the Associated Press that the show shouldn’t employ Britney again, and should steer away from Will & Grace-esq stunt casting. Even though he later retracted his comments (in a manner you could tell was forced), I’m sure it made things awkward between him and Britney – and the result was flat, even in Harris’ usually brilliant performance.

Overall it led to a lackluster night. Britney should stick to what she used to be good at – performing songs. She clearly knew how to put on a great show, and that’s where her fans probably want to see her. While it’s nice to try to stretch your wings a little, acting is not her forte. My cat and I gave a more convincing performance of infatuation last night when we wrestled over the last bit of a ham sandwich. Brit, we’re routing for you. Keep up the good work, do great things from here on out – just stay away from television.

Here are some clips from Brit’s performance last night.

Is Britney Spears pregnant again?

This photo is from yesterday, thanks to Splash. The pregnant-looking photo is on X17’s website
Despite hitting the gym near-constantly, Britney has a little belly, which from some angles looks suspiciously like a pregnancy. The Daily Mail reported this earlier in the week, and I was hoping it was another one of those false alarms caused by a smidgeon of bloat. X17 has some new photos of Brit though and they’re pretty worrying. Britney does look pregnant. I hope she’s not, though, for multiple obvious reasons along with the fact that she’s smoking a cigarette in those pictures.

Some commentors on X17’s site accuse the agency of photoshopping the pictures in order to increase traffic, and it’s possible. Others say that the psychiatric medication Britney is on can cause bloating, which may be what we’re seeing here. You hope that just when she’s getting her life together she won’t go and have another baby, but you also kind of know that she’s not one to take precautions or think much beyond the moment. We’ll just have to wait and see. It wouldn’t be the first false pregnancy alarm for Britney.

We’ll have the clips of Britney’s appearance on “How I Met Your Mother” last night coming up shortly.

Clip of Britney Spears’ second appearance on “How I Met Your Mother”

Britney Spears is back for a second time on the CBS show How I Met Your Mother. Her first appearance on March 24 in a cameo as the secretary to a dermatologist earned the show its highest ratings ever, so it makes sense that they would ask her back. Her episode will air Monday May 12.

Neil Patrick Harris, who plays Barney on the show, hinted at a potential conflict on set about whether to bring Britney on again. He said in April that “I’m in the minority that our show does not need stunt casting in order to succeed… I just am a real fan of our content. I think we have a great show going, and I hope it’s not screwed up by the desire for 700,000 more viewers.” He later clarified and retracted that statement, most likely after a tense conversation with his employers:

Britney did a great job on the show. She really did. In fact, we are all hoping that she returns rather soon to reprise her role as Abby. Look, that episode garnered our highest ratings of the season — I would never ignore or disrespect that fact. I am just very protective of our show, and its content. I have a high standard of quality, and hope to maintain it on every level. Television is big business, I understand that. I have great faith in our casting department, as well as [Twentieth Century Fox Television] and CBS, to find the appropriate person for every role on our show. I was remiss in speculating otherwise. My job description is to act, and I should really do just that. Britney Spears fits into our make-believe world very well — if she chose to return I can only imagine that Carter [Bays], Craig [Thomas], and the rest of the writers would create a humdinger of a storyline for her. We should be so lucky.

[via Hecklerspray]

Someone got in trouble with some bigwigs at CBS for speaking his mind. The Associated Press originally stood by their article and said “Harris told us unequivocally that he did not believe that Britney should be on the show,” but then they issued a “clarification” and said “Harris did not say that he opposed a return engagement for Spears, and our lead said that he did.”

Either way, Britney is back and looking normal. She’s an adequate comedy actress and it’s not bad stunt casting. In his original anti-stunt casting statement, Harris said “I worry that if they start `Will and Grace-ing’ us too much, that the show will suffer.” Or maybe it will get more attention than it ever has, but all attention is not necessarily good as Harris is likely to argue, especially when Britney is involved.
