Miss California now officially anti-gay marriage spokesperson

miss usa 140409

Move over Sarah Palin, the right wing has a new poster girl, and her name is Carrie “Miss California” Prejean. Carrie announced on the Today show (story via US Weekly) that she’ll be working with the National Organization for Marriage to formally oppose gay marriage. It seems Prejean no longer thinks it’s a “choice” (or, in her words, “opposite marriage”) because NOM is one of the most prominent political organizations opposed to gay marriage and gay rights in the country.

There are two wings of NOM: the non-profit wing that “works to develop political messaging, build its national grassroots email database of voters, and provide political intelligence and donor infrastructure on the state level, with a focus on developing new strategies for increasing influence in the Northeast and West Coast, where marriage is most under threat” and the NOM-PAC (political action committee) that “[raises] funds for direct involvement in targeted races of strategic importance across the country.” Many cable news watchers will recognize NOM from their recent “gay thunderstorm is a’ comin’” commercial.

Get ready for Miss California’s battle with the gay community to heat up.

On NBC’s Today show Thursday, Miss California Carrie Prejean announced that she’ll be working with the National Organization for Marriage on a campaign opposing gay marriage.

“I am just here to protect marriage,” said Prejean, 21. “The National Organization for Marriage basically just respects marriages and people who support it. I am here to protect traditional marriage.”

Of the outrage following her conservative stance, she said, “I never thought in a million years that this would be happening right now. I was attacked for giving my own opinion on stage. I am going to do whatever it takes to protect marriage.”

Marriage, she added, “is something that is very dear to my heart, and I am just here to protect it. That’s all I am here to do.”

Although it is an issue “people are passionate about,” Prejean said: “Regardless of our opinions, we need to respect each other, even when we disagree. It’s all about respect.”

She said she has gotten no physical threats because of her views. Instead, “I’ve actually had so may supporters and so many people say, ‘Thank you so much. It had to take a beauty pageant contestant to actually stand up for what she believes in.’”

Asked about some claims that she resembles Alaksa Gov. Sarah Palin, Prejean laughed. “I think that’s funny,” she said. “The only comparison is that we have both been in a beauty pageant.”

So no plan to run for political office?

“Definitely not anytime soon,” Prejean said. “That’s for sure.”

From US Weekly

Which is her right… as a citizen. But as a beauty queen, she’s basically telling gay Californians “I don’t give a crap about representing you, opposite-marriage losers.” There’s no doubt in my mind that Carrie is going to ride this controversy into some kind of political or politics-ish career. My first thought was “Fox News co-anchor” but Carrie may be aiming higher. Perhaps a highly paid spokesperson/lobbyist/poster girl for several right-wing organizations? All of this because Perez Hilton couldn’t keep his damn mouth shut. This is what Perez hath wrought.

Here’s a really funny parody of the “Gay Thunderstorm” ad that The Colbert Report did.

Shanna Moakler says Miss California pageant paid for Carrie Prejean’s fake boobs

miss usa arrivals 200409

Shanna Moakler, the co-director of the Miss California pageant and a former pageant queen herself, confirmed to Access Hollywood that the CA pageant paid for Carrie Prejean’s fake boobs. Carrie went under the knife only weeks before the Miss USA pageant, and Shanna says she supported Carrie’s decision on silicone, even if she disapproves of her views on gay marriage.

“Did you guys pay for it?” Billy [Bush of Access Hollywood] asked Shanna directly.

“Yes,” Shanna said. “We did.”

The organization paid for Carrie’s breast enhancement prior to her competing in the Miss USA pageant, which was held in Las Vegas, almost two weeks ago.

“It was something that we all spoke about together,” Shanna said referring to herself, Carrie and Keith Lewis, Shanna’s co-executive director. “It was an option and she wanted it. And we supported that decision.”

Shanna, a former Miss USA herself, defended the Miss California Organization’s decision to pay for the elective surgery.

“Breast implants in pageants is not a rarity. It’s definitely not taboo. It’s very common. Breast implants today among young women today is very common. I don’t personally have them, but you know — they are,” she added.

[from Yahoo!]

Shanna also comments that she and the other CA pageant directors haven’t been able to get a hold of Carrie since the Miss USA pageant in Las Vegas. Carrie keeps referring questions to her mother or to her PR person. And it sounds like she hasn’t been fulfilling her duties as Miss CA after the scandal.

Say what you want about Shanna Moakler, but she’s got a pretty good head on her shoulders. She makes sure that everyone knows her views, but she’s also not condemning (at least in public) of people who have differing opinions.

“We’ve tried really hard [to get in contact] and she keeps referring us to her mother and her PR person,” Shanna claimed. “That’s also sad for me… because, you know, there’s no hate here. I don’t hate Carrie Prejean. I supported her and I still stand behind her.”

When asked if stripping Carrie of her crown was a possibility, Shanna said they need to see how things work out.

“I don’t want to fire her! I think she’s a great, young girl, and I got into pageants, because I want to help young girls. I want to guide young girls. I know what pageants [did] for me and I know what it can do for young women and also working within the community,” Shanna said.

“I don’t want to fire Carrie. I want her to use her platform, because this is her platform, I didn’t know she was this passionate about it… I’m glad I know now and I support and will help her, but…” she trailed off.

“Since you can’t communicate, when do you say, ‘Alright, come back and follow the Miss California itinerary and get on board or we’re going to fire you?’” Billy asked.

“I guess we’re all going to have to wait and see how that plays out because I don’t have the answers for that,” Shanna said.

[from Yahoo!]

Everyone’s thinking it, so I’m just going to come out and say it: she wasn’t happy with the body God gave her?

I had suspected that Carrie had fake boobs, but didn’t want to jump to any conclusions. But this confirms that she is just as fake and vapid as I thought she was. The surprising part is that she decided to get implants so close before the Miss USA pageant. You’d think that she would want to look consistent throughout the season – right? It saddens me when these girls prance around on stage looking so unnatural. I went through all fifty contestants on the Miss USA website, and the girls that I thought were the most beautiful were the ones with real breasts, real intelligence, and real smiles. Carrie has none of these. It’s a little disappointing.

Miss California doesn’t think people are born gay, thinks it’s a choice

Miss Californias show off their beauty

Miss California is still relishing her fifteen minutes of fame. To celebrate her Miss USA runner-up status, and to promote her pride in being anti-gay marriage, she sat down for a radio interview with Rex Wockner. I had never heard of Wockner, but I looked him up and he’s some big-time gay journalist with a blog and a radio show and he has “reported news for gay media for 25 years in 300+ publications in 38 countries.” He’s also been called “the one-man gay Associated Press”, which is a pretty great compliment.

It’s actually a pretty long interview, so I edited it down a little. If you want to read what Miss California said about California’s Proposition 8 or President Obama (not much), you should read the whole thing. I actually went searching for the entire interview because I thought there was a chance Carrie Prejean’s quotes were being taken out of context on other blogs, but as it turns out, she actually said some moronic stuff:

Rex Wockner: Clearly, nobody would ever get up there (at the Miss USA pageant) and say, “I don’t think black people should be able to marry white people” or something like that. Or nobody would get up there and say something sexist. And people are wondering if maybe we’ve gotten to a moment in American culture where you can’t really say something that’s interpreted as anti-gay anymore, like you might have been able to five years ago. Do you think maybe that’s what could have happened, or, if not, what do you think happened in Vegas that led to all this media stuff?

Carrie Prejean: I think the key thing is tolerance, and I think Perez Hilton had, obviously, a hidden agenda, because of the reaction immediately after the pageant. He didn’t agree with what I said, therefore he wanted to go out there and bash me and say things that were very hurtful. So, I think that this wouldn’t be happening right now had he not have done that. So, it would have just been me saying my own opinions, which I’m entitled to, just as you are, and I think it would have been over with. But the fact that he went out there and attacked me, you know, verbally, that’s why this is all happening right now.

Rex: Do you think that same-sex marriage is just a matter of time, that clearly society is evolving in that direction, and that we’re going to look back on these days as the way we look back on days when white and black people couldn’t get married to each other, or do you think it’s going to be a very long fight to try to get Americans to accept that?

Carrie: I definitely think it’s going to be a very long fight. As you can see in California, you know, we had already ruled that, you know, with Proposition 8, that was already discussed that marriage is between a man and a woman. We voted on it. Um, so, I think that it maybe will be a matter of time, but I don’t see that coming anytime soon.

Rex: And, I guess, last question: What would be so wrong with two women who love each other getting married?

Carrie: What would be so wrong with two women that love each other?

Rex: What would be so wrong with that? Yeah.

Carrie: What don’t you see wrong with that?

Rex: I don’t see anything wrong with it.

Carrie: Why?

Rex: Uh, why don’t — oh, this is fun — why don’t I see anything wrong with it? Uh, because they’re in love with each other, and they want to spend their lives together, and marriage is kind of the way that our society recognizes that two people love each other and want to spend their lives together and make commitment and be financially intertwined and be faithful and, you know, permanent. So, why should that be something that gay people can’t do? There’s gay people all around us all the time.

Carrie: Exactly, and this is nothing against gay people. I have a lot of friends that are gay. This is not a verbal attack on gay people. It’s just a matter of opinion, and the way that I was raised, the way that I was brought up, that was not an option. I knew I was going to marry a man growing up. And so, for me, it’s a biblical thing, it’s something that I was raised believing, um, that a marriage, you know, is between a man and a woman. Barack Obama even supports that. The majority of the people in our nation support that. The secretary of state supports that. So, I don’t see anything wrong with it.

Rex: I understand that you were raised to believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, and I understand that you grew up knowing that you were always going to marry a guy, but you’re heterosexual. Um, some people are born gay, maybe, you think?

Carrie: No, I don’t think so.

Rex: OK, so now we’re getting somewhere.

Carrie: I think it’s a behavior that develops over time.

Rex: Why would someone choose it, given that if you choose that, you get discriminated against?

Carrie: Um, because obviously Perez Hilton doesn’t think that there’s anything wrong with it.

Rex: No, but if being gay is a choice, rather than something you’re born with, why would you choose something that’s going to lead to your being discriminated against? What would be the motivation?

Carrie: I’m not sure what the motivation would be.

Rex: OK. Me either.

[Transcript from Rex Wockner’s Blog]

Ah, yes. Being gay is a choice. Everybody knows that, Gay Journalist! Here’s my question: Even though Miss California doesn’t want the gays to get married, and she thinks it’s their own fault for choosing to be gay, is she really homophobic? Does she really hate gay people, or does she only subscribe to anti-gay politics? Because US Weekly has a story up about how Carrie was partying with famous transsexual and “gay icon” Amanda Lepore. Apparently, the gays are good enough to get drunk with.

In added twist, Keith Lewis, one of the state directors of the Miss California pageant has blasted Carrie. Lewis released this statement: “Given the fact that Carrie Prejean’s first act upon returning to California was to headline five services at a church that promotes homosexuality as both unnatural and abnormal, we stand by our concern for her individual image and look forward to a time in the near future when she can put down her personal agenda and assume the responsibilities associated with being MISS CALIFORNIA USA, including promoting our official platform, ‘The Beauty of California,’ which sole purpose (sic) is to embrace diversity.” Ouch.

Michael Phelps confirms he is not dating Miss California

michael phelps omega 230409

Michael Phelps would rather suck on a bong than make out with Miss California. Phelps is denying Carrie Prejean’s non-denial denial that she and the Olympian are an item. Phelps confirms that he’s single, and that’s all – he wants to maintain a modicum of privacy, so I’ll respect that. He also doesn’t confirm or deny his support of Miss California’s anti-gay marriage stance.

Michael Phelps is denying rumors that he is romancing controversial Miss California contestant Carrie Prejean.

“I’m not dating anybody,” he told Usmagazine.com Wednesday at the opening of the Omega flagship boutique in NYC. “I’m single. My private life stays private.”

(Prejean, 21, was coy earlier this week when asked about rumors they’re an item. “He is a great man. Wouldn’t you like to know?” she said on The Billy Bush Show Monday.)

As for Prejean’s anti-gay marriage answer during the Miss USA competition, Phelps tells Us, “That’s the cool thing about America – everybody has their opinion.”

“I’m not saying I support her,” Phelps then added. “I’m not saying I don’t support her.”

[From US Magazine]

That sucks for Miss California – Michael Phelps shot down that rumor pretty hard. Chuckle. I’m sure everybody has already said this, but why would Michael Phelps want a Miss USA runner-up? The boy could get a Miss USA. Or even better, a girl with beauty-pageant looks and an education. I know Phelps has been seen with multiple strippers and random party girls, but I’d like to think that’s just a phase. He’ll settle down with someone nice, I know it! Someone he could bring home to his mom Debbie!

Here’s Michael Phelps opening the new OMEGA Flagship Boutique in New York City yesterday. Images thanks to WENN.com .

Miss California Carrie Prejean is dating Michael Phelps

phelpsprejean
By now you’ve undoubtedly heard about the controversy over Miss California Carrie Prejean’s comments against gay marriage at the Miss USA pageant over the weekend. Prejean answered a loaded question from judge Perez Hilton about whether she thought states should legalize same sex marriage. She said, that for her and her family, she thought marriage “should be between a man and a woman.” Prejean stumbled a little at the beginning, saying that you can chose “same sex marriage or opposite” in our country, but it wasn’t that bad and considering some of the incredibly stupid and muddled things pageant contestants have said in the past it was adequately stated and to the point.

At least Prejean answered the question
Prejean ultimately was declared runner up, and believes she lost the crown because of her politically polarizing answer to that question. It probably did cost her the crown, and pageant owner Donald Trump confirmed that low scores in the question and answer phase affected the outcome. Meanwhile second runner up Miss Arizona gave a memorized nonsensical answer to a question about universal healthcare. She said “I think this is an issue of integrity regardless of what I think and what end of the political spectrum I stand on. I was raised in a family to know right from wrong and politics, whether you fall in the middle or the left or the right. It’s an issue of integrity whatever your opinion is, and I say that with the utmost conviction.” That makes absolutely no sense. [Thanks to Michael Buck of great YouTube show What the Buck for that quote]

Prejean: 1, Perez: 0
In an appearance on the Today Show yesterday, Miss California defended her statements on gay marriage, saying they were “biblically correct.” Perez Hilton spewed venom in his Skyped interview with Matt Lauer, making Prejean seem like much more of a sympathetic character despite her exclusionary politics. While I don’t agree with her at all on this issue, I feel she had the right to state her opinion when asked. It doesn’t matter if I disagree, she was asked a question and she answered it. She calmly and rationally defended herself to Lauer and she was thoughtful about it. At least she answered the damn question and tried to think about it instead of giving some BS answer. She should have been judged on the quality of her answer, not whether the judges agreed with her politics or not. There are all sorts of opinions in this world and we don’t get anywhere when we can’t talk through our disagreements.

People are pointing out that Prejean is getting a lot more mileage out of her controversial answer than the pageant winner and this is ultimately working out well for her. She seems to be aware of the publicity, and told Lauer that she wouldn’t change a thing, that winning wasn’t what God wanted for her, and that “I wouldn’t be here with you if I was Miss USA.”

After this controversy dies down we may still be hearing about Prejean. According to RadarOnline, who spoke with her grandmother, she’s been dating record-setting Olympian Michael Phelps:

Miss USA runner-up Carrie Prejean is set to make headlines with something other than her anti-gay marriage comments. Her grandmother Jeanette Coppolla confirmed to RadarOnline.com exclusively that the beauty queen has been casually dating Olympian Michael Phelps.

“Carrie and Michael have been out to baseball games and lunch,” Coppolla said. “He always calls her when he is in town and they go out.”

Not just a pretty blonde, Prejean is fully aware of Phelps’ lothario reputation and is taking the flirtation with the swimmer in stride.

“Carrie knows that he has dated a lot of girls but she enjoys going out with him and isn’t serious about being in a relationship with him,” she added. “He’s a nice guy and she likes him.”

Earlier in the week, she played it coy when first asked to address the rumors of a relationship with Phelps, dodging Miss USA host Billy Bush’s questioning by saying, “That’s not appropriate to answer right now. He’s a great man…You can call me on a later day and we can talk about that.”

[From Radar Online]

Prejean is not Michael Phelps’ style, she’s a co-ed at San Diego Christian college and she’s obviously very devoted to her Christian beliefs. He’s been linked to multiple girls recently including a Vegas cocktail waitress and I bet that Prejean is frustratingly unattainable to him.

I don’t agree that marriage is only between a man and a woman and I find it baffling that same sex marriage is still an issue in 2009. Why don’t all couples have the same basic rights? It seems ridiculous that this is something we’re still talking about as somehow controversial. It must be incredibly difficult and disheartening for the couples who have struggled to have their unions recognized for years. That said, I’d rather hear someone say they disagree with me respectfully than yell at me or call me stupid or a bitch for having a different opinion. Prejean told Matt Lauer that she was asked her opinion and she gave it. Integrity and graciousness are what we look for in a pageant winner and Prejean has those qualities, even if a lot of us don’t agree with her politics at all. She’s not enough of a skank for Michael Phelps, though.

Meanwhile Prejean’s grandmother had some barbs for Perez Hilton. She told Radar Online “I don’t know why that gay guy Perez was even judging a contest with a bunch of girls. That doesn’t make any sense. He should be judging a Chippendale’s contest.” At least Prejean’s sister is a gay rights activist, although her grandmother claims “Her sister Christy is not gay, she just has her own mindset. But she’s not gay, we just feel sorry for them.” A lot of us feel sorry for ignorant people too. That doesn’t mean we should get in a fight with them though, that doesn’t solve anything.

Shanna Moakler on why Miss California shouldn’t be Miss USA

miss usa arrivals 200409
When you start agreeing with Shanna Moakler, is it time to take a break? Because I’m there. Shanna Moakler, wife of Travis Barker, the slut who was all over Gerard Butler, and former Miss USA has spoken out about Miss California’s anti-gay marriage stance. Her written blog statement is actually one of the most nuanced, articulate, passionate opinions I’ve read about this whole “scandal”.

First, some background. Shanna had a part in this year’s ceremony. As a former Miss USA and resident of California, Shanna was the pageant director for the Miss California competition. As such, Shanna had promoted Carrie Prejean extensively before the Miss USA pageant. Shanna and Carrie have spent time together, and Shanna says she knows and likes her, despite their difference of opinion regarding gay marriage. Shanna says unequivocally that she “will not abandon our reigning Miss California.”

However, Shanna goes on to give one of the best explanations for why Miss California lost the Miss USA crown, and why she should have lost it. Shanna writes: “[Miss USA] is a ambassador, a role model and needs to be able to show diplomacy on all issues. sadly for California THIS is where we lost the crown. Not for her answer or even her beliefs, [but] because she wasn’t able to convey compassion for ALL the people that as MISS USA she would be representing. and if YOU like it or not, gays and lesbians make up this country as well. THIS is why we have judges so they can find the RIGHT woman who obtains these qualities. The panel of judges was qualified and did their job, they represented all of us, men, woman, black, white, gay and straight.” Jesus, I think I have something in my eye. Shanna Moakler just made me believe in the honor of the Miss USA pageant.

This weekend, Miss California, Carrie Prejean, started a whirlwind of controversy by her response in the interview portion of the Miss USA pageant, when she said marriage should only be between a man and a woman. Perez Hilton had asked whether more states should allow gay marriage, and why or why not.

While news pundits and experts are busy debating and interviewing Prejean, a tried and true pageant expert, former Miss USA Shanna Moakler, is also weighing in on her blog.

As the pageant director the Miss California competition, Shanna had been promoting Prejean in Las Vegas leading up to the event, and now she feels the need to clear things up from her perspective.

“Well, I just got back from a interview at CBS, and I can say after not sleeping for about 2 days and trying to sum up emotions in a 30 second interview wasn’t easy, I wanted to take to my blog so I can put into words my thoughts and feelings, I find writing is best for me anyway,” she writes on her official blog.

“First, I want to be clear on the fact, that I have NOT and will not abandon our reigning Miss California, thou I have a STRONG difference of opinion, I do NOT hate her, nor do I have any issue with her stating her opinion, she is not the first conservative christian titleholder to be in pageants. I agree with the majority that this IS what makes our country great and that is of course freedom of speech. She was asked a questioned and she answered it.”

“But I want to explain to the masses, what the TITLE of Miss USA stands for to me, and being a former Miss USA, I feel I have a pretty good sense of it. Miss USA travels the world and she competes at the Miss UNIVERSE pageant as a representation of her country. She is a ambassador, a role model and needs to be able to show diplomacy on all issues. sadly for California THIS is where we lost the crown. Not for her answer or even her beliefs, because again, sadly IN California her beliefs at this point in time are the majority. But she lost the crown because she wasn’t able to convey compassion for ALL the people that as MISS USA she would be representing. and if YOU like it or not, gays and lesbians make up this country as well. THIS is why we have judges so they can find the RIGHT woman who obtains these qualities. they are crucial in my eyes when holding a honor and title as big as being Miss USA. The panel of judges was qualified and did their job, they represented all of us, men, woman, black, white, gay and straight.”

“I think Miss California’s willingness to stand by her convictions and (in my eyes, simply made the question more personal then it needed to be), has in essence made a great positive impact cause it has brought a issue important to me to the for front of the media and that is civil rights. I have blogged and petitioned for gay rights in the past and if anything positive can come out of this, It’s that it has people talking and we need to have people talking and we need MANY conversations on this topic to take place, especially in the state of California and with Prop 8.”

“I do however want to apologize to the men and woman who have continually supported the Miss California USA pageant. I know some were hurt and felt a sense of betrayal, but I thank you for your understanding, communication, love and continued support. shannaxoxo Health, Wealth and equality for all.”

From OK! Magazine

Shanna is making some of the same points that Perez Hilton made on Tuesday’s Today show, basically saying that there was a way to answer the question without personalizing it, and without coming across as inarticulate and a little sanctimonious.

When I first heard about the “controversy” Monday morning, my first thought was “she said that in front of all of those gay men?” My second thought was “this will last maybe three days tops”. So, here’s hoping that sometime today or tomorrow we collectively figure out that we were getting pissed at Miss California, a ditzy blond who will most likely end up a daytime co-anchor at Fox News.

Miss California thinks she lost crown because she’s anti-gay marriage

carrieprejean2
Yesterday, we had a big juicy fight over Miss California’s answer to a question posed by judge Perez Hilton at the Miss USA pageant. Perez asked Carrie Prejean if she believed in gay marriage. Carrie’s answer was, “We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised.”

Personally, I was amused at the extremely bad timing of Miss California’s anti-gay marriage stance. True, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But her lack of a well-thought-out, articulate response during a nationally-televised audience of women and gay men struck me as unintentionally hilarious. It’s not like she made some off-hand remark to a magazine, she said it front all of the gay men who were already peeved by the girl’s roots! Miss California went on to be the first runner-up at the Miss USA pageant, and she isn’t laughing now.

Carrie blames the gays and the people with a gay agenda for her loss of the crown. She thinks her answer to Perez’s question cost her the crown, but never fear, she’s sticking to her beliefs! Carrie says, “I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that’s all I can do… I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything.” US Magazine has more:

Miss California Carrie Prejean says she believes her anti-same sex marriage stance hurt her chances of winning Sunday’s Miss USA competition.

At the Las Vegas pageant, Prejean, 21, was asked by judge Perez Hilton how she felt about legalizing gay marriage. “In my country, and in my family, I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman,” she replied. She later lost out to Miss North Carolina, Kristen Dalton.

“It did cost me my crown,” Prejean said of her response on Monday’s Billy Bush Show. “I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that’s all I can do.”

“It is a very touchy subject and [Hilton] is a homosexual and I see where he was coming from and I see the audience would’ve wanted me to be more politically correct,” she added. “But I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything.”

In an interesting twist, Prejean revealed that her sister supports same sex marriage.

“My sister is a second lieutenant in the Air Force and she is a gay rights activist,” she said of her sib, who is not gay. “She supports gay people, she supports gay marriage. My beliefs have nothing to do with my sister or my mom, or whatever.”

Her sister wasn’t offended by her remarks at the pageant.

“She was just in my hotel room and she said, ‘Sis, I’m not offended by anything that you said. We have two different opinions and I love you because of it. I love you because you stood up for what was right, and it’s not a matter of being gay or not gay, it’s a matter of you competing for Miss USA and getting a question and answering it to the best of your ability,”” she said.

Added Prejean, “That’s what’s so great about being an American – we’re able to have our own opinions.”

Despite all the controversy, “I feel like I won. I feel like I’m the winner. I really do,” Prejean said, adding that she had 1,000 messages on Facebook and 2,000 friend requests.

Asked about rumors that she is dating Michael Phelps, she said, “He is a great man. Wouldn’t you like to know, Billy Bush? We can talk about that a different day.”

From US Magazine

So, her sister is a gay rights advocate. So much for “I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman.” It seems that even in her family, there’s a difference of opinion. And as far as her sister being proud of Carrie for standing up “for what was right” – um, what? What was right? Having an anti-gay-marriage opinion, or stating your opinion in an inarticulate way? I really hope her sister releases a statement and clears some things up.

So, did Miss California lose the crown because she’s anti-gay marriage? Or was it the way she worded her answer? Or was it all about the hair? Or the dress? Or was Miss North Carolina just better in every way, shape and form?
