Chad Lowe married his longtime girlfriend, producer Kim Painter, in Los Angeles over the weekend. The couple’s 15 month old daughter, Mabel, was their ring bearer. It is the second marriage for Lowe, 42, who was married to actress Hilary Swank for nine years until their divorce in 2006. Lowe has been acting steadily on television, most recently with a recurring role on ABC Family hit Pretty Little Liars. Here’s more on his wedding:

It was a pretty little wedding for Pretty Little Liars actor Chad Lowe and his longtime girlfriend.

Lowe, 42, and film producer Kim Painter, were married Saturday in front of family and a small group of friends in an oceanside ceremony at Terranea Resort in Los Angeles.

Chad’s brother Rob Lowe was best man. The couple’s 15-month old daughter Mabel served as ring bearer.

Lowe and Painter began dating in January 2007. They welcomed Mabel in May 2009 – the first girl born into the Lowe family in nearly four generations.

I will admit that I’ve seen most of season one of Pretty Little Liars. It’s really cheesy and over the top and is like I Know What You Did Last Summer with texting and more unbelievable plot twists, but I enjoy how trashy it is. Lowe is a very good actor, and there’s something quietly sad about him. It’s like his talents are wasted on that show, but at least he’s getting steady work.

I remember well how Swank threw Lowe under the bus with that tell-all Vanity Fair interview after their divorce four years ago. She claimed he was a drug addict and that it put a rift in their marriage, but that he was sober at that point. It was mean and she should have kept it to herself, but a lot of people wondered if that story was a smokescreen for some other issues they didn’t want to get out. Whatever happened back then, it seems like Chad is doing much better now and is hanging in there. I wonder if his career took a big hit from Hilary’s interview. He didn’t get much work after that and kind of stuck to television, but it’s not like he was known for his work in film, either.

Congratulations to Lowe and Painter! Their wedding sounds lovely and it’s nice that their daughter was a little older and could participate. You can see how happy they look in photos and I bet they’re overjoyed.

The couple named their daughter Mabel Painter Lowe, because Kim apparently gave birth to an old-timey phone operator: “Mabel, I need Butterfield 7-0-2!” Chad and producer Kim have been together since the beginning of 2007. Before that, Chad was married to Hillary Swank from 1997 to 2006. Hillary famously outed Chad as a drug user and abuser in a 2006 Vanity Fair interview, but I’ve always assumed that Chad got help and has been clean for several years now. Daughter Mabel Painter Lowe made her debut on Saturday in Los Angeles. “Everybody is healthy and happy,” says the rep.

The couple announced the pregnancy in January, with Lowe explaining that Painter revealed the baby news to him with a grin. “She woke up with a very big smile on her face and I knew exactly what that meant,” the Emmy-winning actor, 41, told Access Hollywood.

Lowe and Kim began dating in January 2007. Mabel is the first child for the couple.

I always end up feeling badly for Chad, and I’m not sure why. He’s a pretty good actor, and he’s built a resume of solid character work. I suppose I feel sorry for him because I, like so many, tend to compare him to Hillary Swank. Like, where are your two Oscars, Chad? And that’s not fair to him at all.

Chad and Kim have been together for a few years, and I hope they’re settled in their relationship. I bet Mabel is a total cutie, even if she does grow up to be a 1940s sweater girl. Congratulations to the happy family!

It looks like Vanity Fair’s strategy of denying stars the cover unless they dish lots of dirt has worked, because Hilary Swank blabs in an upcoming interview with the magazine that her ex, Chad Lowe, is an addict! She says he’s been sober for three years, but that his battle with substance abuse caused a serious rift in the relationship that they couldn’t repair.

It sounds like once Chad beat whatever drugs he was on things were never the same between them and it was impossible to overcome.

For an actress with two Oscars Hilary Swank doesn’t get a lot of attention in the press. This revelation will make people interested in her for a week or two. She’s sporty, down to earth, and normal and people don’t think that’s particularly exciting. She should follow this up by going shopping on Rodeo Drive and having dinner at The Ivy with a hot new guy.

In the upcoming interview, Hilary addresses the problems between her high=profile Hollywood career and her soon-to-be ex-husband’s lack of prospects, saying, “I think that any frustration for him stemmed from the lack of opportunities in his own career.”

Swank, 32, says she’s wary of the dating scene, “I thought of it – of that whole world – I can’t imagine it! I can’t imagine going out right now and trying to find someone else to be with.”

Relationship guru John Gray recommends that men and women do the opposite of their natural instincts when trying to recover from a breakup. Women should start dating right away while men should take time to nurse their wounds instead of jumping into another relationship. Maybe Hilary should take a page from Charlie Sheen and start looking online.

That’s kind of sweet, and it may work out for them this time. Swank seemed committed to trying to make it work, and it must be hard to maintain a relationship in Hollywood.
