Christopher Knight finally files for divorce from wife Adrianne Curry

fp_983031_curry_adrinne_sam_06_03_06

A few months ago, CB reported upon the inevitable split of Adrianne “I Bagged a Brady” Curry and her husband, Christopher Knight, who is best known for playing Peter Brady on the long-running 1970s sitcom “The Brady Bunch.” At the time of their separation, the Knight and Curry had been married precisely five years, which is quite the accomplishment as far as two reality-show famewhores (who starred together on both “The Surreal Life” and “My Fair Brady”) are concerned. The fact that Curry and Knight lasted so long as a married couple is a veritable miracle. Now, TMZ is reporting that Knight has officially had enough, consulted a lawyer, and filed for divorce:

The “separation” is over … and now former “Brady Bunch” star Christopher Knight has finally filed for a divorce from his reality star wife Adrianne Curry … TMZ has learned.

Back in May, the two announced they were separating to rethink the marriage … but now, it appears Knight has reached a decision — and he wants out.

Knight filed divorce papers in L.A. County Superior Court on August 19 … according to court records obtained by TMZ.

Knight married the “Top Model” winner five years ago … after they co-starred on “The Surreal Life” together.

A rep for the couple tells us, “They are amicable and remain friends.”

[From TMZ]

Of course, this news is no surprise for those who have followed the couple to the degree of witnessing their mutual declarations earlier this year to TMZ on the subject of marriage:

Curry: “It’s my belief that men and and women weren’t really designed to be with each other, but since this is purgatory, we can’t live without them. It’s a lot work, dedication, and time. And don’t do it unless you’re willing to go the distance. That’s why a lot of people get divorced after a few years.”

Knight: “We’re from two different planets.”

Curry: “We are … especially when you’ve got a big age gap.”

In regards to the age difference, Knight is 53 and Curry is 28. This was probably the least of their concerns, and I have to admit (again, from personal experience) that a Mars-Venus difference truly exists between the sexes. The fact that Curry and Knight’s romance spawned through reality television was merely a complicating factor in regards to a very general problem within contemporary society; that is, it’s incredibly hard for a married couple to keep the dream alive after a few years, so to speak. After the so-called “honeymoon” period is over, marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world to maintain; and it certainly doesn’t help when the couple in question is spawned through a reality program, and after separation, the bride proceeds to show her (NSFW link) incredibly undressed rear end to the whole of Comic-Con San Diego. Really.

Adrianne Curry and Christopher Knight split up – what took so long?

Christopher Knight, Adrianne Curry
Adrianne Curry is the chick who won the first season of America’s Next Top Model. She met Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady on 70s sitcom staple The Brady Bunch, when they were co-starring on VH1 has-been reality show The Surreal Life in 2005. I watched that season of Surreal Life, and Curry really threw herself at Knight. She seemed incredibly immature and kept bragging about how she was going to land a Brady. She is 25 years younger than he is and is all of 28 now while he’s 53. Those two got a spin off series, My Fair Brady, documenting their relationship and marriage. I saw about two episodes of that and they were in couples’ therapy before they even got married and Adrienne kept threatening to break up with Chris.

The last I heard of them, Curry was papped out with Knight and went on a rant against marriage. A female paparazzo asked Curry for advice since she was just about to get married, and Curry said “It’s my belief that men and women aren’t really designed to be with each other, but since this is purgatory we can’t live without them. So this is our punishment for whatever it is we did… It’s a lot of work and dedication and time. So don’t do it unless you’re willing to go the distance. That’s why a lot of people get divorced after a few years.”

Then Knight chimed in and said “We’re from two different planets.”

Especially when you’ve got a big age gap,” Knight added.

These two are now kaput after five years of marriage, which just makes me wonder what took so long. They made the announcement to Hollyscoop on what would have been their fifth anniversary.

After five years of wedding bliss, Adrianne Curry and Christopher Knight have decided to end their marriage.

The couple announced their split to Hollyscoop exclusively on the five-year anniversary of their wedding.

In a statement released exclusively to Hollyscoop by the couple’s long-time friend and manager Phil Viardo – Christopher Knight and Adrianne Curry are calling it quits.

“Actor Christopher Knight and his wife, model and television star Adrianne Curry have announced today on their five-year wedding anniversary that they are separating,” Viardo confirmed to Hollyscoop.

“After starting a relationship with what seemed to be irreconcilable differences, the couple has reached a period where those differences are no longer appreciated. The decision was mutually reached after it became clear to both that some perspective was needed in order to assess their unique union. Not unlike all marriages, work must be put in.

“Obvious to both Knight and Curry was that their marriage would require more effort then a garden-variety relationship. They are taking time to see if they want to continue to put in that extraordinary effort. The couple has mutually determined that they are at a place where moving forward will require a step back. They still love one another but need some distance to consider their future.

“Both Knight and Curry decided to release this joint announcement today in order to preempt any potential rumors and gossip and ask that their fans and the media respect their privacy during this delicate period.”

[From Hollyscoop]

That’s probably the longest split announcement I’ve ever read, and it’s obviously timed for headlines. The article concludes that there’s no scandal there, but we’ll see. I doubt a lot of people will care. It looks like Mrs. Brady was right, for what it’s worth. Not much, considering that just about everyone saw this coming. I guess we should congratulate them for lasting this long.

These are the most recent photos I can find of these two. They’re practically making out on the red carpet on 4/11/11. What a difference six weeks makes, or not. Credit: PRPhotos

Christopher Knight & Adrianne Curry respond to Mrs. Brady’s accusations

This past week Florence Henderson – aka Mrs. Brady – told a bunch of reporters that she told Christopher Knight – aka Peter Brady – not to marry his wife, original America’s Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry. It seemed pretty odd and out of place, given that she was being interviewed about her upcoming TV movie. Henderson also said that while she declined to counsel them before their marriage, she’d consider counseling their divorce. Snap!

It took a few days, but both Christopher and Adrianne have responded. Christopher released the expected adult, mature response – albeit on his MySpace blog. Adrianne released a similarly mature response via her PR rep – but got a little more pissy on her MySpace blog.

I forgive Florence…

She may not be asking for it, but I am going to give it to her. My anger is released. I am sorry she is acting this way, and am a little embarrassed for her. I was nothing but nice to her when we met, and she had it out for me before I said a word. I even hope her tv movie does well, since she is so desperate to generate attention for it. I pray she has the right mind to at least give my husband a call and apologize to HIM. She disrespected him and hurt him in her attempt for attention. If she loves him as much as she says, I know she will do the right thing. I wish this could have worked out better. Lord knows I tried to connect with “this person”, but it is obvious that it was never meant to be. I just wish she could be more professional about this. It’s weird to have someone on the level of Mr Rogers and Barney hate you. I must be the bad child ; )

[From Adrianne Curry’s MySpace Blog]

I’m embarrassed to say that the little bit of reality television I’ve ever watched was pretty much all about this couple. I saw them once or twice on the Surreal Life and just found the whole relationship so odd that I had to keep watching. They also spent a little time chilling on Dr. Phil’s couch last year. I’ve always found Adrianne to be pretty immature, but in this case I think her feelings are totally warranted.

Florence Henderson’s little TV movie wouldn’t have garnered the even the tiniest bit of attention were it not for her comments about their marriage. And it had nothing to do with anything, and seems like a huge betrayal of her supposedly close relationship with Knight. I always thought she was reasonably classy. The day you make Adrianne Curry look mature and intelligent is the day you should seriously consider reexamining your behavior.

Florence Henderson: I told Christopher Knight not to marry Adrianne Curry

Former Brady Bunch child star Christopher Knight still has a friendly relationship with the actress who played his mother on the 70s sitcom staple, Florence Henderson, 74. Henderson is a certified hypnotherapist and reminds us that she advised Knight, 50, not to marry his third wife, model Adrianne Curry, 25, but said he obviously didn’t take her advice. Knight and Curry met on the VH1 reality show The Surreal Life in 2005 and later chronicled their courtship and wedding on the follow-up show My Fair Brady.

Henderson says she didn’t want to do reality television, but that didn’t stop her from making a guest appearance on My Fair Brady. She says she told Knight and Curry not to get married, but that they went and did it anyway and adds “Maybe I will counsel the divorce.” What I find telling about Henderson’s comments is that she doesn’t refer to Curry by name and simply calls her “this person.”

Florence Henderson says that while her former TV son Christopher Knight has lived his life in front of the cameras the past few years, “reality [TV] is not for me.”

“It’s a double-edged sword,” Henderson said of shedding an iconic role. Henderson, 74, spoke to reporters on Tuesday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles, where she was promoting her upcoming Hallmark Channel film Ladies of the House.

“It can be difficult to move on,” said the former Brady Brunch mom. “Christopher Knight is like my son and he was very involved with this person on The Surreal Life,” she says referring to model Adrianne Curry. “He asked me to counsel them – I am a certified hypnotherapist – but I didn’t really want to do reality TV.”

Henderson appeared on the couple’s VH1 show My Fair Brady, which she says seemed to steer the couple into an engagement. “They didn’t take my advice at all! And as you may have seen, they did get engaged and they did get married,” she says. “Maybe I will counsel the divorce.”

From People

I only saw snippets of My Fair Brady, but Curry and Knight’s relationship really seemed doomed to me. Maybe they edit it down to the worst parts, although those two didn’t seem to fight fair or to really be suited for each other. Unfortunately I have to admit that I watched that entire season of The Surreal Life. (I have the excuse that I was laid up in bed most of the time.) Curry really threw herself at Knight, saying stupid crap like “I’m going to nab Peter Brady.” When he eventually started dating her, I was very surprised because she came off as desperate to me. She’s an attractive woman and was the first America’s Next Top Model winner and all, but she seems goofy.

Curry and Knight have been married two years and they haven’t separated or divorced yet, so they must be doing something that works. They’re also getting some much-needed publicity with Henderson’s comment that she might counsel their divorce.
