Kate Hudson’s co-star jokes that Kate needs a paternity test – funny or inappropriate?

When Kate Hudson was filming her latest POS romcom with Colin Egglesfield last spring there were definite rumors that the two were hitting it. Those stories seemed to be based on how cozy they looked while filming scenes showing their characters’ romance, so we didn’t put a lot of stock in it at the time.

Egglesfield recently “joked” that Kate got pregnant right around the time they were working together, so she should get a paternity test for the baby. At first he sounded like a complete jackass to me for saying that, like if he f*cked her, he shouldn’t say it, if he didn’t f*ck her, he shouldn’t say it because it will spark rumors that he did. Then he recovered by saying that Kate’s boyfriend was around and they weren’t really hanging out off set. He was probably just making an offhand comment in response to a question about how Kate got pregnant around that time and it sounds bad when taken out of context. I’ll try to give him the benefit of the doubt because he was such fine mancandy on that terrible Melrose Place reboot and he very gamely endured a romance with Ashlee Simpson’s character. That must have taken true fortitude.

Though the 31-year-old actress is currently 17 weeks along with Muse rocker Matthew Bellamy’s baby, her Something Borrowed costar Colin Egglesfield joked that he may actually be the child’s father.

“[She got pregnant] right around the time when we were working together, so they might want to do a DNA test when that baby comes out,” he joked at Wednesday’s Children Awaiting Parents bash in Hollywood.

Kidding aside, the 37-year-old actor tells UsMagazine.com he had a blast playing Hudson’s fiance in the upcoming flick — even if they didn’t exactly become BFFs when cameras stopped rolling.

“We had a lot of fun on the set, but at the end of the working day it’s not like we were hanging out as friends,” he explained. “John [Krasinski] had his fiancee, Ginny [Goodwin] had her fiance, Kate’s got her baby-daddy. After spending 14 hours a day with each other, it’s like, ‘I love you ,but get out of my face!’”

The guy probably didn’t mean it that way, but it was a dumb thing to say and smacks of a douche move even if he was trying to make a joke.

This film “Something Borrowed” is out on May 6 in the US. There’s no trailer available yet that I could find, but the movie poster looks really bad.

Kate Hudson was seen out in London last night with her boyfriend, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy. He looks annoyed by the paparazzi, but I have to say she’s gorgeous! I love her coat and those shoes are so cute. She must have been cold, though. She won’t be wearing heels for long.

Is Kate Hudson boning her costar Colin Egglesfield?

fp_5040597_something_borrowed_aar_052010

Kate Hudson may be f-cking her Something Borrowed costar, Colin Egglesfield, You may remember Colin as… well, you probably don’t know him. On the off-chance you watch the new Melrose Place, he’s on that. And a while back, there were rumors that he and Ashlee Simpson were having an affair – and that story came from Star Magazine too, so Star probably just likes to run photos of Colin. CB thinks he’s hot – I think he looks like a budget Eddie Cibrian, right? And Cibrian is already pretty budget, so I don’t know what’s going on. This is a typical non-story almost solely based on two things:

1. Most tabloids and sites have access to a series of photos of Kate and Colin filming a love scene on a beach, and the photos are pretty good, and make the story better.
2. Kate is a slut (bless her heart), and saying that she’s boning her costar isn’t that much of a stretch.

So, with that in mind, let’s see what Star has to say:

Kate Hudson has found love – or, at the very least, lust – on the set of the upcoming film Something Borrowed with her on-screen fiancée, former Melrose Place star Colin Egglesfield.

“He’s her summer fling,” a pal of the actress tells Star. “Cameron Diaz can have Alex Rodriguez – Kate has Colin!”

The new twosome sparked the moment they met in preproduction for the romantic comedy based on the best-selling book, says another insider. And when they showed up on set in the Hamptons in New York for the first day of filming May 18, it didn’t take long for Kate, 31, and equally single Colin, 37, to heat up.

“They kissed for a scene their very first day of working together – and they loved it,” says the insider. “When the director yelled cut, they were still kissing. They couldn’t get enough of each other. They’re having an absolute blast.”

“They’ve been taking long strolls along the shore after sunset. Right now it’s totally fresh and new and they’re both really crushing on each other. This is just what Kate needed to lift her spirits.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition]

Eh. It could be on. Especially if they’re both single. I think it was last month that Kate was allegedly juggling three or four men, none of whom I can even remember. But I could see her settling on Colin for the whole summer – she seems to like having a boyfriend when it’s warm. Pretty soon Kate will be posing in her bikini and her new boobs and everyone will be writing about how much she wants to settle down with Colin because after one month together, she knows he’s “the one”.

Major characters off Melrose Place (spoilers, interesting even if you don’t watch it)

melrose1
I’ve been keeping up with the new “Melrose Place” on The CW since the premiere, and while it can be kind of cheesy I do enjoy the glamor and the intrigue. My favorite character is bitchy but vulnerable Ella Simms, played to a T by Katie Cassidy. Cassidy is a talented actress and she really makes you root for Ella despite her character’s opportunistic personality.

Ashley Simpson’s character is the obvious weak point of the show, because she just can’t act. Her character Violet is emerging as the prime murder suspect and she’s supposed to be conniving, but all she does is over-emote and I’ve found myself rolling my eyes during her scenes. It’s hard to see Ashlee as anything but a mediocre singer trying too hard to act.

Yesterday it was reported that “Melrose Place” had been half renewed by The CW, which ordered another five episodes for next season. The show is just treading water in the ratings, as opposed to the blockbuster “Vampire Diaries,” which has been renewed for a full season with 10 episodes.

Spoilers for future episodes start here, do not read on if you want to be surprised
EW’s Michael Ausiello has a new interview with producers of the show, who reveal that both Ashlee Simpson and Colin Egglesfield (who plays hot chef Auggie) are off the show next year starting in January. He also reports that the mystery of Sydney’s murder will be solved in December. (I suspect that Auggie was involved, because he was shown burning bloody clothes at the end of the first episode, but it’s hard to tell.) Heather Locklear is coming back in November as we’ve already heard, and more new characters will be introduced.

I’m looking forward to seeing what happens with the show and am kind of relieved that Ashlee’s character will be leaving. Auggie is such delectable eye candy but I’m not that attached to that character either. The producers claim that it was planned all along that Violet and Auggie would leave this season, but Colin Egglesfield tells E! it was a complete surprise and that he had a multi-year contract. You can kind of tell it wasn’t set it stone by the way the producers phrase their answers too.

Two months into its run, The CW’s ratings-challenged (but creatively-smokin’) Melrose Place reboot is about to undergo a major renovation. For starters, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Colin Egglesfield have been let go (they’ll last air in January), and the “Who Killed Sydney?” mystery is being wrapped up in December. Then, in addition to Heather Locklear’s Amanda, several new characters will be introduced and the show will take on a lighter, more fun vibe. Here, in an exclusive interview, exec producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer explain why they’re fixing a series that many (myself included) felt wasn’t broken and tease what’s ahead for Melrose 2.0 3.0.

What was behind the decision to let Ashlee and Colin go?
TODD SLAVKIN: Well, we always knew that this murder mystery would end in episode 12. And we always knew that [Ashlee's] character of Violet would be instrumental in that as a suspect, and [Colin's character of] Augie as well. And once that murder mystery was solved, she would go on her way. That was the original plan going into the development of the show.

So it was always the plan for Ashlee to leave after episode 12?
SLAVKIN: Yes. Because we felt that once the murder mystery was resolved, the tone of the show was going to shift into a much more fun, romantic, sexy upbeat kind of show, and [her] character would move on.

Same thing with Colin?
SLAVKIN: Colin was always meant to be the ultimate suspect. And his brooding alcoholic [character] tonally didn’t fit the paradigm moving into post-murder mystery Melrose Place.

Is it fair to say that if either of those characters clicked you would’ve found a way to keep them?
SLAVKIN: Well, you never know when you go along. But in the end, we felt like it was right [decision].
DARREN SWIMMER: The nature of soaps is that as things progress along, the story takes on a life of its own and the characters come and go in relation to that.

How did Ashlee and Colin take the news?
SLAVKIN: They’re total professionals and they took it like professionals. When you go into a show you never know what’s going to evolve and what the possibilities are. But because they knew ahead of time [that leaving was a possibility], it wasn’t a complete shock.

[From EW.com]

The interview then covers the new fun direction that show will take. Although the producers deny that they’ve been influenced by the ratings, you can bet that was a large part of it. The trashy and superficial parts of the show are much more appealing than the murder mystery and I’m glad they’ll be switching gears. We’ll have to see how Heather Locklear mixes things up as Amanda too. She’s going to be a large part of the new show, and you can bet there will be a mini-war between Amanda and Ella. Bring it on!
