Kate Beckinsale in pink Alberta Ferretti at the Met Gala: too glam or just right?

Here we have Kate Beckinsale in tiered asymettric Alberta Ferretti, looking like she’s going to the Golden Globes. As I mentioned earlier, a few of the designers said last night that “pink is the color of punk.” No it isn’t. They may have tried to reinvent punk as some Avril Lavigne pink skull teenage angst, but that’s not true to the movement. This is in homage to nothing except Hollywood, although Kate looks flawless and somewhat too “done” as usual. I do like her earrings but they’re contemporary, not punk.

Elizabeth Banks mixed it up in a Atelier Versace gold chainmail jacket dress with studds. In the late 80s I used to hit up the Salvation Army for men’s jackets, which I would wear with dresses, t-shirts and jeans, and always with combat boots. This dress reminds me of that jacket trend. It’s kind of cool.

Dakota and Elle Fanning were cute sisters in Rodarte. I didn’t realize how much taller Elle, 15, was than her sister Dakota, 19, until I saw them on the red carpet interviewed together. They were super cute and giggly and Elle admitted she’s more adventurous with fashion than her sister. This dress with sequin angel wings on the back was very true to the theme and looked great on Dakota. Elle’s dress was more 60s hippie with the tie dye, but I like that she went experimental and that she’s covered up.

Hailee Steinfeld was styled so differently that I didn’t recognize her at first! She was in Donna Karan Atelier, and she was there with Teen Vogue editor Andrew Bevan. (not shown.) The dress isn’t that “punk,” but its whimsical and her hair and makeup make up for it.

Finally Julianne Moore was a big miss in this navy blue Balenciaga sack gown. I get the impression that Julianne is such a compliant person that she lets designers do whatever they want she doesn’t push back at all. This was a snooze and did not flatter her.

Dakota Fanning is excited about being ‘newly allowed’ to do nude scenes

Dakota Fanning

Here are some photos of Dakota Fanning touching down in Park City, Utah last week for the Sundance premiere of her new movie, Very Good Girls, which also stars Elizabeth Olsen. As we’ve seen over the years, Dakota grew up very gracefully, had a relatively normal high school experience (she was even crowned Homecoming queen), and is currently attending NYU without incident. She really seems to have her head on straight, and as hard as it is for me to see Dakota growing up and looking sexy in magazine spreads, I guess it’s time for me to realize that Little Dakota is now Grown-Up Dakota. Still, it seems slightly skeevy to me that she’s taken her clothes off for a movie at the very first opportunity (it’s now legal for her to do so at age 18-19). Here are the details:

Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning might be one of the Very Good Girls in her 2013 coming-of-age drama, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t get the chance to show off her bad self in the flick. The actress bares more than just her soul in the film, going nude for the first time on camera.

“Yeah, well, I’ve never done that before and I’m very newly allowed to do that,” she explained to MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival, where she was out promoting the movie. “I was newly 18, so yeah, it was, it’s kind of a sensitive thing, but it’s a part of life.”

Fanning grows up big time in the film, which follows her and her pal, played by Elizabeth Olsen, as they embark on their journey through adolescence, on a quest to lose their virginity, and all the repercussions that come along with it. It also means that Fanning had to capture that life-changing moment in the film. “No one’s ever comfortable [doing love scenes],” she explained, before Olsen had some advice on getting through them.

“No, you just have to go for it. Sorry, I didn’t do a sex scene in this movie so I should shut up,” she quipped.

The actor who got to mix it up with Fanning in the scene, Boyd Holbrook, notes that it’s the realism of the scene that will have fans connecting to what Fanning is going through in that instant. “As in life it’s not always so perfect and glossy and seamless,” he said. “It’s quite awkward sometimes especially with that. This film’s about its going into life, first sexual experience, so it’s all about the environment and not taking it too serious.”

[From MTV]

Does this make anyone else slightly uncomfortable? I think many of us have watched Dakota grow up on the big screen, so it almost feels like she’s a little sister. But I guess this had to happen eventually — I just wish she’d waited a few years. At the moment, it seems like Dakota was counting down the days until she turned 18 so she could get her kit off. I know, I know. That makes me sound so old.

Dakota Fanning on her banned perfume ad: ‘Why are you making it about [sex]?’

Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning covers the March issue of Glamour, and I think we’re supposed to look at this shoot and realize that she’s all grown up now that Dakota will turn nineteen years old next month. Still, it seems a little bit skeevy that this cover features a belly shirt with a Mickey Mouse figure emblazoned across the chest. So the message here is sexy but still very young, right?

The rest of the shoot doesn’t send as many mixed messages as the cover, but it’s still difficult to see Dakota looking so mature since we haven’t seen her onscreen since she was still technically a child. I don’t think Breaking Dawn Part 2 counts as an adult appearance since Dakota shot her scenes well over a year ago. Don’t get me wrong though — she does look lovely in this Glamour editorial, and I’m more comfortable with Dakota doing an “iffy” shoot with Glamour than when she covered Cosmo last year amidst sex-tip headlines.

In the Glamour interview, Dakota does make me scratch my head just a bit though. She talks about her Marc Jacobs “Oh, Lola!” perfume advert (the one where she held a flowery bottle between her legs) and how the United Kingdom banned the ad for being “sexually provocative.” Basically, Dakota thinks there’s something wrong with people’s minds who went there in the first place:

Dakota Fanning

On fame & fashion: “It’s really fun when you’re getting dressed for something. It’s not when you’re in the rain with an umbrella and trying to carry a case of water. Yep, that’s me, alone, coming from Duane Reade. I’m not wearing a bra. Deal with it.”

Was she surprised about her banned Marc Jacobs ad? “Yeah, I was! If you want to read something into a perfume bottle, then I guess you can. But it’s also like, Why are you making it about that, you creep? I love Marc and trust him, and we just laughed about it.”

Could she ever be a fashion designer? “I don’t think so. I mean, I won’t rule it out, because then one day I’ll be like, ‘I said that in Glamour in 2013, and here I am now [with my own line].’ But when you know designers and see the work that they put into making their collection, and how much passion they have for that–I think that’s so amazing. And I don’t have the passion to design clothes. It’s nice to be able to grow up and know what you want to do…. I’m reminded of that every time I make a film.”

On her little sister, Elle: “She’s very uninhibited and will try pretty much anything. Even the way she dresses– she dresses totally for herself. She risks being made fun of…by me, which I sometimes do, because I’m an older sister! But I totally admire her and think she’s very cool.”

[From Glamour]

Dakota’s really starting to come out of her shell, isn’t she? She recently defended Kristen Stewart by telling us all that we have no “authority to judge” her friend, and I get it. One wants to defend their girlfriends, so I’ll leave it at that. Now Dakota seems to lack perspective when she asserts that anyone who saw something pervy about a perfume bottle between her legs must be a “creep.” I mean, I still love Dakota. She’s a good girl, and she’s never been spotted drunkenly stumbling out of a nightclub or flashed her hoo-ha to the paparazzi, but still. That perfume ad was so gross.

Dakota Fanning looks strange & more photos from the ‘Breaking Dawn 2′ premiere

Here are some more photos from last night’s LA premiere of Breaking Dawn Part 2. We already covered the “important” people from the premiere, Kristen and Rob. This post is for the less important people, obviously. There was a lot of bad fashion at last night’s premiere. A lot of prom dresses and a lot of half-smug, half-worried expressions. Like, the Twilight franchise is going to be the absolute height of many of these actors’ careers. So… enjoy them while they last.

I don’t think Dakota Fanning is one of those people who will be defined by Twilight. She’s a talented actress in her own right, and I think she’ll continue to get work. Unfortunately, she seems to be going through a very awkward phase right now. Dakota wore Elie Saab Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2012 collection – it’s a pretty dress. But her styling is a mess. That brunette shade is not flattering, and her makeup is terrible.

Here’s Elizabeth Reaser in Carolina Herrera. Is she at the Oscars? Did she need to wear this full-on gown? Maybe I’m biased – I really dislike this woman. She’s a horrible actress. She was terrible in her guest role on The Good Wife.

Poor Taylor Lautner. Is he going to have a career beyond this franchise? Poor kid.

Saoirse Ronan in Simone Rocha. I love her. I love her dress. I love her shoes. I love how age-appropriate she is.

Here are your favorite people in the world, the real stars of Twilight! Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz and Nikki Reed. I don’t really have anything against Nikki, but I do wonder what she’s going to do beyond this franchise. Ashley is wearing Donna Karan (she’s the face of the label), and Nikki is wearing Versace. I like Nikki’s dress better. It suits her and flatters her. Kellan Lutz knows you enjoy his Kellan Lutzy purple lapels. KELLAN LUTZ!!!

Elle Fanning in head-to-toe Prada. Look at her shoes!!!

Stephenie Meyer looks pretty good here.

Teresa Palmer has a great body. I’m not sure this dress highlights it appropriately.

And I’ll end it on a high note – Michael Sheen in velvet! He just does this crap for the money, you know? I love him.

Dakota Fanning on Kristen Stewart’s affair: ‘You think you are the authority to judge?’

Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning covers the December issue of InStyle UK to promote her role as creepy Jane in Breaking Dawn: Part 2, and the cover shot itself features a white jacquard Chanel dress. Dakota looks very beautiful, youthful, and sweet here. I have mixed feelings about the other photo, which shows Dakota in a Dolce & Gabanna corset, a Roberto Cavalli skirt (which is gorge), and cat ears. I really think we could have done without the cat ears, but I get that the stylists wanted her to look youthful (she’s still just 18 years old) even though she’s going semi-risque with the corset. The interview isn’t very heady but does include a question about Kristen Stewart’s affair with Rupert Sanders and the resultant crumpled heart of Sparkles. Here are some excerpts:

Dakota Fanning

On the Twihard meltdown: “Everyone thinks they have the right to, you know, publicise the struggles and sadness and heartbreak and all of that. It’s like, ‘Why do you think you are the authority to judge people’s experiences?’”

Why she hasn’t lost it yet: “Why have I been able to stay sane in a sometimes insane world? The pure love of what I do. Making movies.”

On the Hounddog rape scene: “I’ve always been drawn to material that’s more kind of heavy, you know? Whether it be dark or dramatic or sometimes disturbing. And that can be hard to do when people think you’re still a kid.”

She’s only had 1 boyfriend & is currently single: “You know, I’m not the kind of girl or person who really wants boyfriends in my life. I’m also the kind of person… I’m very black and white in what I feel and I don’t wanna be with someone that I don’t foresee spending a long time with.”

[From InStyle UK]

I totally understand Dakota’s perspective on the situation because she and Kristen are very good friends and have not only worked together on The Twilight Saga but also grew very close on the set of The Runaways. Dakota only sees the good in Kristen, and she wants to defend her pal. However, I don’t really think the bulk of the criticism over the Kristen’s affair with Rupert has anything to do with “judg[ing] people’s experiences” in general. Instead, Kristen’s caught a lot of heat (from the non-Twihards, anyway) for pretending to be above all of the Hollywood clichés, and then she got caught behaving like a Hollywood cliché. Or rather, she got caught banging her married director like a so-called “typical” starlet.

As for Dakota, I hope she carrys on just as she’s been doing as an NYU student who somehow manages to squeeze in a bit of time for films on occasion. She’ll be just fine in life.

Dakota Fanning, Camilla Belle & Lily Collins in pale tones at the Met Gala: all so pretty?

Dakota Fanning
Here’s kind of a final post for the Met Gala with some of the younger fashion ladies, all in lighter color dresses and all looking so pretty. I just couldn’t resist talking about them. It seems like with these big events, the more we look the more photos and celebrities we see that we want to cover. I’m especially taken with how lovely these younger girls look, and it gets me a little wistful for my youth. I know they’re all celebrities and are used to getting dressed up and dolled up, but it still must have been special for them.

Dakota Fanning

First off is Dakota Fanning in a very pale lavender chiffon Louis Vuitton. Unlike poor Jessica Chastain, LV did right by Dakota. I love the structural elements of this dress along with the off the shoulder v-neck and fitted bodice. It’s very suitable for an 18 year-old girl and it looks young yet sophisticated. I like this look a lot, along with her simple styling. Check out the pretty matching flower brooches in her hair. They’re a nice touch.

Dakota Fanning

Leighton Messter of Gossip Girl also went for a pale color. She’s in champagne color Marchesa, of course. I should have known this ice skater dress was Marchesa. It’s so ugly and the busy embroidered skirt is even partially see-through. Have you heard that Marchesa is going to be doing casual clothes now? I hope that never comes to fruition. Meester is a lovely thing, but this dress makes her look too princessy and much younger than her 26 years. I don’t pay a lot of attention to Leighton and I honestly assumed she was about 22. A lack of makeup is also making her look like a teenager. Also, Leighton reminds me that Blake Lively wasn’t there! She was probably too busy feathering her nest with Ryan Reynolds upstate.

Leighton Meester

Leighton Meester

Camille Belle is the star of this group for me. She’s a knockout in silver beaded Ralph Lauren with a deep v-neck. I love the contemporary look of the transparent netting holding up the dress. The flapper style of her hair and makeup compliment the look perfectly. Her makeup is a little severe, but that’s a very minor complaint. Look at the back of that dress, it’s amazing. Like Leighton, Camille is in her mid 20s at 25. I assumed she was younger since I remember her dating one of the Jonas Brothers. Those kids have grown up too.

Camilla Belle

And finally here’s Lily Collins, 23, in tulle and lace Valentino couture. I find this dress very fussy with the lace on top of the flowery underlay and the frou frou bow at the waist, but somehow it works on Lily. Maybe I’m just feeling generous today. On another woman I might really dislike it, but I think she’s working it well. Look at how it’s kind of flowing away from her in this pose.

Viola Davis nearly pops out, Rosario Dawson has extreme cleavage at Corres. Dinner

We have just a few more photos from the White House Correspondents Dinner this weekend. We’ve already covered many of the ladies at the event, here are links to our earlier stories. We’re actually only doing the celebrities with the highest name recognition, there were quite a few people who seemed like they had no business being there. (Other than Lohan and Kim K of course.) I’m talking about Glee’s Matthew Morrison and Darren Criss, Elle MacPherson (in a ball gown of course), a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model named Irina Shayk, and an American Idol finalist from last year named Colton Dixon. I should get over it, though, as Kaiser and others are pointing out, that’s the point of this event. It’s not some stodgy insider event, it’s where politics and celebrity meet, and reality stars serve as punch lines. Next year there will probably be some Real Housewives in attendance, and they won’t be crashing it. The White House doesn’t invite these people, the press and media outlets have them as guests, and they want to bring people who will get coverage.

First off is Viola Davis in asymmetric Amsale. It looks like her left boob is about to make an appearance. Viola often has issues containing her girls on the red carpet, so this isn’t as cleavage-heavy as we’ve seen from her her in the past. I actually would love this look if it weren’t for how low it goes on the one side, and that could be a tailoring issue. It’s such a striking gown. Viola went with a wavy wig instead of her natural hair, which she was rocking at the end of this years awards season. Overall it’s a very elegant look. (Just Jared has more photos here.)

Rosario Dawson didn’t have any qualms about bringing out the big guns. Her boobs were pushed up to her neck and barely contained in shiny, very tight green Armani Privé. This is not appropriate for an event at the White House! This is something you wear to an action movie premiere when you want to get the attention of tween boys. So wrong and such a fug, unflattering dress. Even Lohan didn’t try to show this much cleavage.

Compare Rosario to the very lovely and appropriately-dressed Dakota Fanning, 18. There are elements of sexiness to Dakota’s full length sparking Prada dress in that it’s low cut and even has a keyhole cutout above the stomach. Still, it looks demure on her. I think it’s her overall styling as well. Also, we have a photo of Dakota at the event with Steven Spielberg and she just looks thrilled to be there.

Martha Stewart worked some kind of caftan-looking white and gold beaded shirt. It wasn’t cute and it looked like one of her craft projects, but it’s Martha and she can wear whatever she wants. Kim Kardashian enthused about meeting Martha at the event, and told US WeeklyThe highlight of my night was meeting Martha Stewart. She is such an inspiration to me!” Why is Martha an inspiration to Kim? Is it because she actually has marketable skills and contributes something to society? I wouldn’t know how to properly fold sheets without Martha’s step-by-step instructions.

Diane Keaton was in one of her trademark suits, this time a pinstriped fancy-looking one. From far away it didn’t look bad to me, but up close I see that it’s more like a zoot suit. It’s loose and her pants are dragging on the floor. Her look reminds me of this Tom and Jerry episode.

Finally Elizabeth Banks was in red too. The Fashion Patrol notes that she was in Antonio Berardi, and they describe the fabric as “peplum.” I love the clean lines of this dress, which really works on Banks. I wouldn’t dare to wear a dress that flared at the hips like that, but on her it’s gorgeous.

Dakota Fanning: “I’m not going to school for a career, I’m going for my own interest”

Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning covers the May issue of C Magazine (alson known as “California Style Magazine”) to promote her role in the upcoming Effie, in which she plays the teenage bride (Effie Gray) of Victorian art critic John Ruskin. It’s an indie flick that probably won’t get much play but just premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last week, so maybe it’ll get picked up by a distributor. Anyway, I can appreciate that Dakota’s nearly finished with her first year of college at NYU (she’s still only 18) and has put her film career largely on the back burner with the exception of little indie movies like this one plus her continuing (small) role in The Twilight Saga. In her C interview, Dakota makes it clear that she’s committed to finishing college even though she knows that she’ll keep on acting once she graduates. Dakota’s a smart girl, and she’s got enough talent that Hollywood will still be waiting for her when she’s through. Here are some more excerpts:

Dakota Fanning

On college: “I’m not going to school for a career. I’m going for my own interest, for myself. I already know what I want to do forever.”

On turning 18: “I feel like this new chapter as an adult is almost like starting over. That’s the interesting part about getting older in this business. I’m excited to present myself differently.”

Has she ever been in love? “Ahh, not really. No. I would have to say no … but Effie wasn’t really in love with her husband, either, which made [filming the movie of the same name] easier.”

[From C Magazine]

Does anyone else find it strange that the journalist actually asked Dakota if she’d ever before been in love? That seems like such an odd question but then again, we’re only seeing the excerpts of the interview without the larger context. I can’t imagine ever being in love at such a young age, and in fact, I wish I’d never fallen in love until my late 20s. Romance is too distracting! Just last week, my daughter’s dentist told her to stay away from boys because they don’t really grow up until they hit age 40. Honestly, I could’ve kissed the guy for saying that.

Now onto this photoshoot, which is quite lovely even if the cover itself is sort of “meh.” Here, Dakota wears many pieces of the latest Chanel Haute Couture collection. The styling is sophisticated enough without looking too mature. After all, Dakota has only recently become an official adult, and I think most of us aren’t quite comfortable with her going for sexier looks just yet.

Catherine Zeta Jones in grey Michael Kors: lovely and suspiciously busty?

These are some photos from last night’s Vanity Fair party at (or for?) the Tribeca Film Festival. I’m starting with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, considering that yesterday’s Zeta post was such a hit. I much prefer Zeta’ look here – this Michael Kors dress is gorgeous, and Zeta wears it well. I have to ask, though – are those new boobs? I was on Boob Job Watch last year with Zeta too – it really looked like Catherine got some implants around the time she was being treated for her bipolar condition. Maybe it’s just a good dress – or maybe Michael bought her some new boobs. I’m guessing the latter.

Next: Demian Bichir and his wife. Bichir is really hot, isn’t he? He’s not really my type – I don’t go for “dark and mysterious,” I go for “fair-skinned, talkative, drunk and horny.” Still, I would hit it.

Leelee Sobieski in Jil Sander. I know this is probably cotton, but it still has a “ball gown” silhouette, and I just don’t think you should wear a ball gown to a Vanity Fair party held for the Tribeca Film Festival. It’s overkill. Also, I hate her hair. She’s certainly got “the young Helen Hunt” thing going, doesn’t she?

Dakota Fanning in perfect pink Lanvin, perfect for her age, and it looks pretty on her too. I don’t care for the gold headpiece, though. That’s just… bad. The dress is simple, sure, but the dress makes a better statement without the headpiece.

Dakota Fanning, age 17, covers Cosmo: Too young or no big deal?

Dakota Fanning covers two prominent fashion magazines for February, and I couldn’t figure out exactly what she’d be promoting because none of her upcoming projects are due out for at least a few more months. Not that I’m complaining because I adore Dakota, who largely seems unaffected by her lengthy resumé (with 45 acting credits to date on IMDb) and who has still managed to have the full high school experience. She’s even quietly gone onto NYU as well.

But alas, Cosmopolitan has made Dakota its cover girl along with naming her “Fun Fearless Female of the Year.” For certain, this is a dubious honor because it requires that Dakota pose alongside headlines such as “His Best Sex Ever” and “Um, Vagina, Are You Okay Down There?” even though she’s still just seventeen years old. Here are a few obligatory interview excerpts:

Dakota on her superhuman aura: “Since I was young, I’ve always known who I was. I never really had to go through finding who I am. I’ve always felt really secure.”

Kristen Stewart on Dakota’s determination while filming The Runaways: “We had a few scenes that were crazy intimidating, and maybe once or twice, she was like ‘Okay, I have a butterfly in my stomach.’ Meanwhile, I’m hyperventilating! Sometimes I give her sh-t for being so on the ball.”

[From Cosmopolitan]

Surely, there’s much more to the interview than those few scant excerpts, but the quality of Cosmo means that we won’t be learning anything new from the experience. While I understand Dakota accepting the “Fun Fearless” honor, I wonder how appropriate it is for her to appear on the cover before she’s even 18. Certainly, photographers like Terry Richardson have had far too much fun with Dakota in the past, and a certain perfume ad featuring Dakota was also banned in the UK. These incidents are at odds with what we’ve come to expect from Dakota in terms of her actual behavior. Luckily, this Elle UK cover and photoshoot will set things straight, the interview within is much more gratifying from a Dakota-centered standpoint:

On Normalcy: Dakota herself is at pains to insist that she is the most normal, balanced, regular girl with a regular life you could ever hope to meet. She went to a “competely normal high school,” her friends are “still the core group I met when I was 14,” there is absolutely no power imbalance, even though she is a globe-trotting superstar and they are not. “My friends are like, ‘Oh wow, I just forget that you do movies’,” she instists. When I ask her if, from film sets around the world, she feels any sense of longing, looking at the regular teenage lives led by her peers, Dakota looks me in the eye and says firmly: “But I’m definitely part of that, too. I just want to be an actress. I don’t really do anything attention-grabbing,” she says. She avoids anything that might grab the headlines for the “wrong” reason.

“It’s inevitable,” she says, levelly, when I ask if everyone was staring at her. “But it’s only as weird as you make it. You can kind of walk in and be like, “God this is weird,” Or, you know, you just walk in like, “I’m going to school like everyone else and it’s going to be great.”

Her Mom Is Not On The Payroll: “Does not happen, has never happened, will never happen,” insists Dakota, “I would never … She would never want that, so that’s never even entered into any kind of plan.” She likes the fact that she can pop out to a premiere then come home and get “fussed at” for not cleaning her room and says, with almost heartbreaking earnestness, that “at the end of the day, my mom’ opinion is the only opinion that matters to me in the word. In the whole world.”

On Manners: “I’ve always been taught that the greatest trait ina person is to put other people before yourself,” says Dakota solemnly. And it’s true — she is courteous, kind and incredibly eager to please throughout the 10 hours I spend with her. She is never late, she says, because, “I feel absolutely terrible. I have a real anxiety about people waiting for me.” If anyone gets her name wrong, she won’t correct them because she has a fear of embarrassing them. “I will never send food back at a restaurant, even if it’s not right.”

On Fame: If [Dakota's mother] notices busloads of tourists looking at her daughter, she makes Dakota wave and smile because to ignore them would be rude. Dakota finds it mortifying — but she does it. Indeed, she seems truly terrified of fame, hence her refusal to enjoy its rewards. In fact, she refuses to even use the word “famous”; at any time my line of questioning forces her there, she simply refers to herself as a “well-known person.” When I try, meanly, to make her say: “My name is Dakota and I am famous,” she visibly cringes and says, “Famous just sounds so pretentious. Who am I to call myself that word?”

She admits to being aware of the growing interest in her looks and her body shape — she is an actress after all — but claims it doesn’t upset her. “You can’t worry about what other people think, especially if you’re a known person or sometimes you won’t be able to get out of bed.” Come on, I push her, you’re young, you’re beautiful, you’re now a woman, you have to feel it coming for you …. “I’m not stupid,” she says, almost kindly. “People are always talking about tis person and that person who has an amazing body and this person who looks great and that person who doesn’t. It’s there, if you let it in. And I let it in to an extent. I just don’t let it affect the choices I make.”

She Doesn’t Do Casual Relationships: “I feel like peole, a lot of girls, take things with guys very loosely, and I’m not like that. I mean, my parents have known each other since second grade and they’ve been married 22 years. I don’t need to be courted, but sometimes it’s nice, a little bit of that.” Nonetheless, when Dakota completed a scene recently, Emma Thompson tells me she was moved to “grasp her tiny little wrist and say, ‘You know, you’re the real thing and it’s very rare.’” I tend to agree. Both on- and off-screen, Dakota Fanning, actress, is the real thing.

[From Elle UK]

The Elle article also claims that Dakota really is all BFF with Kristen Stewart, which seems entirely odd since the two young actresses appear so different from each other. Kristen is sullen, pouty, and certainly doesn’t place value upon education. In contrast, Dakota is sunny, humble, and really does seem committed to getting through college. In other words, she’s not deferring after one semester like Emma Roberts just did. Maybe an actress who’s as levelheaded like Dakota doesn’t give us as much to talk about, but I can at least appreciate knowing that she’d rather be studying than OD’ing at a party.

Now what of this Elle UK shoot? Beyond the sketchy cover, the editorial photos are absolutely gorgeous. Mature but still covered up. Very appropriate.
