Dakota Fanning, age 17, covers Cosmo: Too young or no big deal?

Dakota Fanning covers two prominent fashion magazines for February, and I couldn’t figure out exactly what she’d be promoting because none of her upcoming projects are due out for at least a few more months. Not that I’m complaining because I adore Dakota, who largely seems unaffected by her lengthy resumé (with 45 acting credits to date on IMDb) and who has still managed to have the full high school experience. She’s even quietly gone onto NYU as well.

But alas, Cosmopolitan has made Dakota its cover girl along with naming her “Fun Fearless Female of the Year.” For certain, this is a dubious honor because it requires that Dakota pose alongside headlines such as “His Best Sex Ever” and “Um, Vagina, Are You Okay Down There?” even though she’s still just seventeen years old. Here are a few obligatory interview excerpts:

Dakota on her superhuman aura: “Since I was young, I’ve always known who I was. I never really had to go through finding who I am. I’ve always felt really secure.”

Kristen Stewart on Dakota’s determination while filming The Runaways: “We had a few scenes that were crazy intimidating, and maybe once or twice, she was like ‘Okay, I have a butterfly in my stomach.’ Meanwhile, I’m hyperventilating! Sometimes I give her sh-t for being so on the ball.”

[From Cosmopolitan]

Surely, there’s much more to the interview than those few scant excerpts, but the quality of Cosmo means that we won’t be learning anything new from the experience. While I understand Dakota accepting the “Fun Fearless” honor, I wonder how appropriate it is for her to appear on the cover before she’s even 18. Certainly, photographers like Terry Richardson have had far too much fun with Dakota in the past, and a certain perfume ad featuring Dakota was also banned in the UK. These incidents are at odds with what we’ve come to expect from Dakota in terms of her actual behavior. Luckily, this Elle UK cover and photoshoot will set things straight, the interview within is much more gratifying from a Dakota-centered standpoint:

On Normalcy: Dakota herself is at pains to insist that she is the most normal, balanced, regular girl with a regular life you could ever hope to meet. She went to a “competely normal high school,” her friends are “still the core group I met when I was 14,” there is absolutely no power imbalance, even though she is a globe-trotting superstar and they are not. “My friends are like, ‘Oh wow, I just forget that you do movies’,” she instists. When I ask her if, from film sets around the world, she feels any sense of longing, looking at the regular teenage lives led by her peers, Dakota looks me in the eye and says firmly: “But I’m definitely part of that, too. I just want to be an actress. I don’t really do anything attention-grabbing,” she says. She avoids anything that might grab the headlines for the “wrong” reason.

“It’s inevitable,” she says, levelly, when I ask if everyone was staring at her. “But it’s only as weird as you make it. You can kind of walk in and be like, “God this is weird,” Or, you know, you just walk in like, “I’m going to school like everyone else and it’s going to be great.”

Her Mom Is Not On The Payroll: “Does not happen, has never happened, will never happen,” insists Dakota, “I would never … She would never want that, so that’s never even entered into any kind of plan.” She likes the fact that she can pop out to a premiere then come home and get “fussed at” for not cleaning her room and says, with almost heartbreaking earnestness, that “at the end of the day, my mom’ opinion is the only opinion that matters to me in the word. In the whole world.”

On Manners: “I’ve always been taught that the greatest trait ina person is to put other people before yourself,” says Dakota solemnly. And it’s true — she is courteous, kind and incredibly eager to please throughout the 10 hours I spend with her. She is never late, she says, because, “I feel absolutely terrible. I have a real anxiety about people waiting for me.” If anyone gets her name wrong, she won’t correct them because she has a fear of embarrassing them. “I will never send food back at a restaurant, even if it’s not right.”

On Fame: If [Dakota's mother] notices busloads of tourists looking at her daughter, she makes Dakota wave and smile because to ignore them would be rude. Dakota finds it mortifying — but she does it. Indeed, she seems truly terrified of fame, hence her refusal to enjoy its rewards. In fact, she refuses to even use the word “famous”; at any time my line of questioning forces her there, she simply refers to herself as a “well-known person.” When I try, meanly, to make her say: “My name is Dakota and I am famous,” she visibly cringes and says, “Famous just sounds so pretentious. Who am I to call myself that word?”

She admits to being aware of the growing interest in her looks and her body shape — she is an actress after all — but claims it doesn’t upset her. “You can’t worry about what other people think, especially if you’re a known person or sometimes you won’t be able to get out of bed.” Come on, I push her, you’re young, you’re beautiful, you’re now a woman, you have to feel it coming for you …. “I’m not stupid,” she says, almost kindly. “People are always talking about tis person and that person who has an amazing body and this person who looks great and that person who doesn’t. It’s there, if you let it in. And I let it in to an extent. I just don’t let it affect the choices I make.”

She Doesn’t Do Casual Relationships: “I feel like peole, a lot of girls, take things with guys very loosely, and I’m not like that. I mean, my parents have known each other since second grade and they’ve been married 22 years. I don’t need to be courted, but sometimes it’s nice, a little bit of that.” Nonetheless, when Dakota completed a scene recently, Emma Thompson tells me she was moved to “grasp her tiny little wrist and say, ‘You know, you’re the real thing and it’s very rare.’” I tend to agree. Both on- and off-screen, Dakota Fanning, actress, is the real thing.

[From Elle UK]

The Elle article also claims that Dakota really is all BFF with Kristen Stewart, which seems entirely odd since the two young actresses appear so different from each other. Kristen is sullen, pouty, and certainly doesn’t place value upon education. In contrast, Dakota is sunny, humble, and really does seem committed to getting through college. In other words, she’s not deferring after one semester like Emma Roberts just did. Maybe an actress who’s as levelheaded like Dakota doesn’t give us as much to talk about, but I can at least appreciate knowing that she’d rather be studying than OD’ing at a party.

Now what of this Elle UK shoot? Beyond the sketchy cover, the editorial photos are absolutely gorgeous. Mature but still covered up. Very appropriate.

Dakota and Elle Fanning cover W Mag: too mature, or just precocious?

w1

Elle and Dakota Fanning cover the new December issue of W Magazine. Elle is 13 years old, Dakota is 17 years old, and they blonde hair, big blue eyes and an otherworldly precocity in common. In their separate interviews with W Mag (which you can read here at W), Elle talks about her dreams of working in Paris and how she knows the names of all of the major models, while Dakota talks about real estate and improvising with Sean Penn when she was 6 years old. It’s weird, basically, especially in Elle’s case. Dakota has grown up in the spotlight, and she’s managed to balance fame and work with a normal childhood experience, but Elle seems like she’s already a little adult. Plus, these photos seem way too mature for a pair of sisters who only have 30 years between them. Here are some highlights from the piece:

Elle on Dakota, her big sister: “She is a nice older sister. But it’s not like we always get along. Now that she’s going to college, it’s different. I went into her room at home in California, and all her clothes were gone! Her closet was empty! I don’t get to go in there and steal clothes anymore. It’s really strange. It’s sort of like she’s off making a movie, but this time she’s not coming back.”

Elle on playing the young Cate Blanchett in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: “I was 9 years old during Benjamin Button. I had to wear a long red wig because [Cate] had red hair in the movie. I remember that. I had a great time on set. The director did a lot of takes, and he would say, “Take 50,” and I would just go do it again. I was only 9, so I thought that was fun.”

Elle on ballet: “Yes, ]I still do it] five days a week. That’s something I always try to keep on my schedule. I would love to do a musical! Dakota did The Runaways, so she got to sing in that one.”

Elle’s favorite television shows: “We watch a lot of reality TV. My sister and I record Big Brother. We’re obsessed! And we love old game shows like Password and the original Family Feud. Also, me and my sister watch Criminal Minds. We record every episode, and we watch it every single night… My sister likes psychology, and they really get into the mind of the killers. I’ve been on Criminal Minds twice! On the first show, a boy brought kids out to the woods and was beating them with a baseball bat, but I got away. Then they brought Tracy, my character, back—as a kidnapped girl. They saved me two times! Tracy lived!”

Elle is little fashionista: “Oh, yes! When I found out that I was invited to the Chanel show—that was the loudest I’ve ever screamed in my life. That was the best day of my life. It was my first fashion show, and I know every model by name. I go on Style.com and look at all the shows. It was just the best experience ever! And, of course, we did some sightseeing. We went to the Eiffel Tower at night. It was sparkling. I would be the happiest you would ever see me if I got to film a movie in Paris. That would be everything!”

Dakota on why she decided to go to college: “For the same reasons I wanted to go to a high school: You hear people say, “Oh, when I was in high school” or “When I was in college.” That defines a lot of who people are, and I didn’t want to miss out on that.”

Dakota’s 17 and she lives on her own with her mom? “No roommates. Because I’m only 17, my mom is staying with me in my apartment for a little bit. She’s teaching me how to wash clothes and such. But I’m so excited to be on my own. In my house in L.A., we all feel that everything is everybody’s, and so doors are never really closed. My sister and I share a bathroom, and when you have a sibling, nothing is actually your own. I’ve never really had anything or any place that was just mine.”

Dakota on improvising with Sean Penn when she was 6: “And I thought, Okay, that’s what it’s going to be like. There was no other choice. I think he said, “Knock, knock,” which was not in the script. I said, “Uh…who’s there?” [Laughs.] And, yeah, that’s what it was like. It definitely prepared me for the future. At other times, in other movies, actors would go off script and kind of test me like, Ah—maybe she’s not going to be able to reply. And I already knew how to be ready for anything.”

Dakota on auditioning as a child actor: “It didn’t bother me, but I usually wouldn’t get things because of my hair. I had really short, wispy hair, and the girls with perfect long, straight hair with bangs and a butterfly clip would always get picked. Finally, I got some more hair and started getting roles.”

[From W Magazine]

They mention that their mom was some kind of fashion buyer before she started “managing” her girls’ careers – and I’m using “managing” loosely because it doesn’t seem like Mother Fanning is some Dina Lohan or Kris Jenner-style momager. I think Mother Fanning is just very involved in her girls’ lives, and she gives career advice, especially about clothes and ad campaigns. Which makes that Marc Jacobs ad with Dakota even creepier, because the mom used to a professional in the fashion industry, and she knew what Dakota was getting into.

So here’s the question: Are the Fanning girls simply smart and precocious, or does their momager need to take a step back and pull the girls away from the limelight a bit?

Dakota Fanning’s suggestive Marc Jacobs ad banned in the UK for sexualizing a child

dakota2
Do you remember this really obnoxious, offensive Dakota Fanning for Marc Jacobs’ Lola perfume ad, above? Kaiser covered it back in June when it came out, and she mentioned back then Dakota’s parents should oversee their daughters’ photoshoots more closely, especially when it comes to their up-and-coming 13 year-old daughter, Elle. At least Dakota was all of 17 when she shot this ad, which is still underage but isn’t 13, you know? Well the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK has banned that ad, saying that while Dakota may be over 16 she’s styled to look like a much younger girl and that the photo appears to be sexualizing a child.

A provocative ad campaign for Marc Jacobs perfume featuring 17-year-old Dakota Fanning, the US actor who has starred in films including War of the Worlds and Charlotte’s Web, has been banned following accusations that it sexualised children.

The magazine campaign, which featured in the London Evening Standard’s ES Magazine and Sunday Times Style magazine, featured Fanning wearing a short skirt and holding a bottle of Marc Jacobs perfume in what the advertising regulator deemed a “sexually provocative” position between her legs.

The Advertising Standards Authority received four complaints from that the ad was offensive and irresponsible because it portrayed the young model in a “sexualised manner”.

The press ad ran with the strapline “Oh, Lola!”, the name of the perfume, which is produced and distributed by Coty UK.

Coty UK, ES Magazine and the Sunday Times Style magazine said they had not received any complaints about the campaign.

Coty said that most readers of the titles would be over 25 years of age – the target age for the perfume – and the type of picture was “similar to many other edgy images in those magazines”.

The ASA said that the way the perfume bottle rested in Fanning’s lap was “sexually provocative” and considered that the actress actually looked to be under the age of 16.

“We considered that the length of her dress, her leg and position of the perfume bottle drew attention to her sexuality,” the ASA said.

“Because of that, along with her appearance, we considered the ad could be seen to sexualise a child. We therefore concluded that the ad was irresponsible and was likely to cause serious offence.”

The ASA banned the ad in its first ruling since a Downing Street summit in early October attended by senior executives from from the media and retail industry – including broadcasters, magazine editors, trade bodies and advertisers – who updated the prime minister about cracking down on the “sexualisation” of TV programmes, advertising and products that may be inappropriate for children.

I appreciate how the Advertising Standards Authority tries to keep ads in the UK in check, particularly cosmetic ads. They’ve banned some overly photoshopped ads and required mascara ads using falsies to include disclaimers informing consumers. (They haven’t been as aggressive towards ads for hair products that use models with hair extensions, however.)

This ad just goes beyond what should be acceptable for a young girl, though. I like that they’re pointing out that Dakota was styled to look younger, not more mature, while holding a perfume bottle between her legs that looks like a phallic Georgia O’Keefe painting blooming from her crotch.

Getting back to Dakota and her little sister, Elle – they just did a photoshoot for notorious perv creeper Terry Richardson. I like that when you google his name this article on Jezebel is the fourth result. He doesn’t care at all. Sexually abusing young models hasn’t hurt his career one bit. I hope that the Fanning sisters had an entire entourage with them when they did this shoot.

Dakota Fanning’s NYU enrollment & email leaked by curious, stalking students

fp_7258989_fanning_sisters_lax_grl_00_07

Back in June, we reported that Dakota Fanning had graduated high school and was, in all likelihood, planning to attend NYU for the upcoming fall semester. Well, thanks to a loophole in NYU’s email system, the students who run the NYULocal website have confirmed Dakota’s status as an enrolled student. Further, the publication has revealed to anyone with access to the NYU email system just how easy it is to locate Dakota’s student email address. If I were Dakota, I’d be more than a little creeped out by this over-enthusiastic, warm welcome:

Dakota Fanning has been found out by her fellow students.

The 17-year-old star of “The Runaways” will be attending New York University beginning this fall — and a loophole in the university’s email system confirmed it.

Student-run website nyulocal.com followed up on the actress’ visit to the school last spring by using NYU’s email system, which allows students to search for one another by name.

Typing in “Dakota Fanning” revealed the star’s new @nyu.com email address and made it clear that she’ll be landing in New York City for the coming school year.

Fanning won’t be the only famous face on campus. Currently, “The Sixth Sense” star Haley Joel Osment attends the university as do former Disney stars Dylan and Cole Sprouse.

And there are plenty of famous alumni as well: James Franco attended, Alec Baldwin once studied there and comedian Aziz Ansari graduated in 2004.

Welcome to New York, Dakota! And if you like school, just remember that it’s easy enough for celebrity students to stick around and teach.

[From NYDailyNews]

In this day and age, the hunting and gathering of a celebrity’s email address isn’t entirely unexpected, but this still reminds me of that time when Emma Watson was stalked by Harvard jackasses after she first arrived at Brown University. However, I think once the initial rush of having Dakota at NYU will soon wear off, and it should be easier for her to blend in at NYU (which doesn’t have a traditional campus layout and is spread out in various locations throughout Manhattan) than it would be at most other universities. The positive thing here, of course, is that Dakota’s starting college; and she’ll hopefully do as well for herself there as she did in high school. Also, there is apparently an option for NYU students to “opt out” of the email directory, so Dakota needs to do so, like, yesterday.

Dakota Fanning’s latest “Lolita-styled” Marc Jacobs ad: gross or meh?

dakota2

This is the new ad for Marc Jacobs’ perfume Lola, starring 17-year-old Dakota Fanning. What’s up with the Fanning girls lately, huh? I guess it’s not really their fault that stylists, designers and photographers keep putting them in these “Lolita” photo shoots, but at some point, maybe their parents should say something? In Elle’s case – with the Blackbook and Marie Claire photo shoots, which I considered much too adult for a 13 year old – I expressed my hope that the “Lolita” styling was just about how easily Elle’s “look” can easily go to that retro Jean Shrimpton/Twiggy vibe. As for Dakota, who just graduated high school but isn’t yet legally an adult, I feel like she signed on to this Marc Jacobs campaign with her eyes wide open. I mean, did they have to pose her with the “flower bottler” right on her crotch?

At just 17, Dakota Fanning is still a year under the legal age of consent in her home state of California, but this trifling fact doesn’t seem to concern Marc Jacobs. The 48-year-old designer chose to place the teenager in a provocative pose – in homage to a 1950s novel about sex with an under age girl – to sell his new perfume, Oh, Lola!

Jacobs’ long-term collaborator Juergen Teller shot the Twilight star in Los Angeles wearing a girlish, pink scalloped polka dot dress. The background, is similarly juvenile – it’s monotone pastel pink compounding the innocence of the composition. But then a large bottle of the scent, featuring it’s signature rose-top has been placed provocatively in between the young starlet’s legs. The teenager clutches it as she tilts back lasciviously and stares intently into the camera.

New Yorker Jacobs admits that his intention was to portray the young woman as a re-boot of the tragic character in Vladimir Nabokov’s 1955 novel, Lolita, which tells the story of young girl’s sexual relationship with a much older man, who becomes her step-father.

He told Women’s Wear Daily: ‘When we were speaking about who to use in the ads, I had recently seen The Runaways…I knew she could be this contemporary Lolita, seductive yet sweet.’

The iconic novel tells the story of sexual predator Humbert Humbert and his exploitation of his ‘Lolita’ from the age of 12.

Ironically, this is the age at which Dakota first posed for the successful designer.

The pull of Jacobs is so strong that Fanning admitted she was: ‘humbled by the offer and said yes immediately.’ Dakota recently graduated from high school and joined her peers to receive her diploma. She attended classes at the $30,000 a year private school in North Hollywood and last year was crowned Homecoming Queen. But despite her Hollywood career Dakota insists that she is a down-to-earth normal teenager.

She said: ‘I have such a normal life when I’m not working… It’s just nice to be around people you care about and who know you best.’

[From The Mail]

So, Marc Jacobs wanted to create this creepy, sexualized image of a 17-year-old girl who looks 13. Gross. Of course, Jacobs also sexualized himself for the ads for his men’s cologne Bang:

bang1

So… he doesn’t have the best judgment. By the way, CB wanted me mention that Justin Bieber (of all people) is in trouble because his perfume Someday blatantly rips off the Lola flower bottle. You can see photos of the two bottles here, at E!.

Dakota Fanning graduates from high school, enrolls in college for fall

fp_7250240_metgala_ram_163_256

Occasionally, it’s nice to read about a truly down-to-earth actor or actress who isn’t just faking it while simultaneously stomping upon their resting laurels. Such is the case with Dakota Fanning, who is probably the most unaffected young starlet in all of Hollywood and who will most likely make a smooth transition from child star to adult actress. First things first though, for Dakota and her family have placed a great emphasis on the importance of education and living as much of a “normal” life as is humanly possible; that is, for a 17-year-old whose IMDb profile lists an impressive acting 45 credits to her name. Even more amazing is the fact that Dakota also participated in extracurricular activities too, particularly as a cheerleader as well as being voted both Homecoming Princess and Queen of her high school. Now, she’s graduated from high school (here’s a cap-and-gown photo that we don’t have access to), and she’s already made plans for college, so it’s time for a celebration:

Dakota Fanning donned a blue cap and gown at downtown L.A.’s Walt Disney Concert Hall on Monday — but this was no film shoot! The veteran child actress, now 17, attended her high school graduation ceremony with her classmates from North Hollywood private school Campbell Hall.

Despite her constant stream of film work (Hollywood took notice of her talent when she was just 6 years old in 2001′s I Am Sam) the Twilight Saga star and her family have endeavored to maintain a somewhat “normal” childhood. She was part of the varsity cheerleading squad, and was named homecoming queen two years in a row at Campbell Hall.

“I think it was really important to have the high school experience,” she said on the Today Show last fall. “I just think everyone always looks back on that time in their life. Who was homecoming princess and [did] the cheerleading … and all the things that go along with high school? And I wanted to have that. I’m really lucky that I found a school that allows me to do both.”

Next up, Fanning plans to enroll in New York University this fall.

[From Us Magazine]

See? I don’t think we’ll need to worry about Dakota pulling an Emma Watson after a year or two of undergrad either. Dakota will take things seriously and graduate because she’s used to the discipline of study (and the experience of school itself) instead of just dealing with an on-set tutor that came only in small doses. Nope, no “taking a break from college” for her. Or at least, I hope so.

Dakota Fanning crowned homecoming queen at her high school

35324PCN_Dakota
These photos are from last year. You can see Fanning as homecoming queen on Just Jared

Dakota Fanning, 16, has proven herself to be a rare teen star who can balance a successful Hollywood career with a normal school life. Last year Fanning was crowned Homecoming Princess at the private high school where she’s also a cheerleader. Now in her Senior year, Fanning has taken home the coveted crown of Queen. It looks like her king is the same guy as last year too. This just goes to show that Fanning is as popular with her classmates as she is on screen. Here’s a report on that from Yahoo!, along with some quotes she gave about the importance of school:

Everyone’s a fan of 16-year-old Dakota Fanning — including her classmates at Campbell Hall in North Hollywood, California. The veteran actress/high school senior was named to her private school’s homecoming court for the second year in a row!

In 2009, Dakota was awarded the title of “princess” while proudly wearing her cheerleading uniform and supporting her team, the Vikings, at the homecoming game, but during this year’s half-time ceremony on Saturday night, the “Twilight” star ditched her school colors in favor of a funkier ensemble. The teen queen (literally) rocked black tights, boots, and a sparkly frock while accepting a bouquet of red roses, a sash with her title, and the coveted crown.

Dakota explained her decision to go to school — at least when she’s not on a set — on “Today” last June. “I think it was really important to have the high school experience,” she said. “I think that I want [the college] experience as well. I just think everyone always looks back on that time in their life. Who was homecoming princess and [did] the cheerleading … and all the things that go along with high school? And I wanted to have that. I’m really lucky that I found a school that allows me to do both.”

[From OMG.Yahoo.com]

Dakota could have been tutored and home schooled, but she chose to put herself out there and work at going to high school and getting involved in extra curricular activities despite a busy filming schedule. I have a lot of respect for the way she’s handled herself throughout her career, particularly when you compare her to other famous girls her age. Her parents deserve a lot of credit too.

Dakota Fanning, 16: “I’m not that young little girl anymore”

0810-ns

I know Dakota Fanning is a bright, capable, intelligent, surprisingly-low-key young woman. But I am still finding it really hard to accept that she’s old enough to be on the cover of fashion magazines and have lesbian makeout scenes with Kristen Stewart. In my mind, she’s still the adorable little 8-year-old prodigy. But now she’s 16 years old, and she’s a big movie star, and she’s got nothing but good vibes for her future. As far as her photo shoot for August’s Marie Claire, I’m kind of meh on it. The cover shot in particular makes her look like she’s about 12 years old, but some of the other photos are rather lovely and truly high-fashion. The full Marie Claire piece is here, and here are some highlights:

Kristen Stewart on Dakota: “Dakota is so unfaultingly steady. In most cases, I feel like she’s older than me. It’s only when she starts talking about boys that I remember how young she is.”

Dakota doesn’t have a boyfriend: So far, she says, there has been “nothing serious.”

Dakota on wearing red contacts for her role in Twilight: Given how much actors rely on their eyes to communicate emotion, the contacts were a handicap that might well have unsettled another, less confident performer. “It’s something that’s always been there for me, that I have huge blue eyes — it’s been something that people have always talked about,” Fanning says. “But I enjoyed the red. You’re automatically transformed into a creature when you put those red eyes in.”

On the Twilight Saga books: “They’re so addicting!” she says, though her natural taste in literature tends toward the more refined: Right now she’s reading Jeffrey Eugenides’ novel, The Virgin Suicides.

On growing up in front of the camera: “When you start out young, people get really attached to who you are at 6 years old,” Fanning says. “I hope that The Runaways was kind of a moment to be like, ‘You know, I’m not that young little girl anymore, but I’m still not all grown up, either.’”

On her future in the business: “As you get older, there’s so much more that you can do in films,” she says. “I’ve never wanted to rush that; I’ve always wanted to do what’s right for my age, but as you approach 18, a whole new world opens up to you as an actor, and I really look forward to that.”

[From Marie Claire]

Dakota does sound very smart and… what’s the word I’m looking for? Like, she’s hip to way Hollywood can f-ck up a young woman. She’s ambitious, but her ambition is channeled into her work and being an authentic actress rather than being a “celebrity”. Will Dakota end up some Lindsay Lohan-esque disaster? My guess is no, she won’t. But I bet there will be a few moments where she parties and acts like a dumb kid, and we should be prepared for that! Either that, or Kristen is just going to introduce Dakota to marijuana, and Dakota will just end up a paranoid pothead who works constantly. Either/or.

By the way – Dakota and Taylor Momsen are the same age. Just thought I’d throw that out there.

Kristen Stewart rolls her eyes through ‘The Runaways’ NY premiere

fp_4705624_runaways_premiere_scp_031710

Here are some great photos from the New York premiere of The Runaways. I cannot get over how Dakota Fanning is growing up before our eyes. She really is turning into a beautiful young woman with a very classy style. Even though I’m not a huge fan of a nude, beaded cocktail dress, DakFan is still a cutie, and she does look age-appropriate (she’s 16 years old). As for Kristen Stewart… well, she didn’t look horrible. I kind of liked her very detailed dress even if the fit was weird on the bust. But in too many of these photos, K-Stew once again looks like she’s mid-eye roll. She needs to stop coming to these events after taking a bong hit, for real. Still, I can tell that she’s trying to make an effort, so maybe that’s a subtle improvement.

fp_4705649_runaways_premiere_scp_031710

Once again, Joan Jett and Cherie Currie also walked the red carpet. These two ladies look pretty great too.

Dakota also made an appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s show last night, and she’s already the subject of some complaints that her image is already too sexualized. You know, because she and K-Stew make out in the film, and because Dakota has long legs and wears skirts on the shorter side, I guess. Considering she’s not wearing Miley Cyrus-esque booty shorts and pole-dancing on the Teen Choice Awards, and is instead simply playing a part of a sexualized teenager, I think we should just give Dakota a break.

Kristen Stewart “wasn’t allowed to grope” Dakota Fanning

Here are some cute photos from the LA premiere of The Runaways. Several things are happening all at once, so here are the basics: Kristen Stewart is not rolling her eyes in every other frame; K-Stew is wearing pink, which is so exciting, although the color is not really her best, I do think she looks cute as a button; Joan Jett and Cherie Currie walked the red carpet too, which is exciting; and little Dakota Fanning is adorable, beautiful, and she and K-Stew seem to have a very genuine friendship, which is so cool.

K-Stew and DakFan have already been out promoting The Runaways, with Kristen taking up most of the promotional duties. I guess because she’s older and she’s more famous? But it seems like DakFan is the one whose getting the best reviews out of this film, so we’ll see. Anyway, while doing press, Kristen was talking about her friendship with DakFan, saying: “Working this closely with someone, you can’t help but really become bonded with them and it really helps when you actually like them and can become really good friends… I haven’t really done a lot of movies with people close to my own age to have a good friend like that. So I was excited, and I couldn’t have asked for a better person to do it with.”

Now, The Runaways will feature some girl-on-girl action between DakFan and K-Stew. Kristen told the press yesterday, regarding their on-screen kiss: “It was cool. I didn’t mind it. The way that it happens in the script is so just a sort of moment in time and fun and natural and sort of impulsive.” To which Dakota chimed in: “It was just another thing.” Kristen also told Access Hollywood that because of Dakota’s age (she was 15 when she filmed the movie), Kristen said she “wasn’t allowed to grope her… I’m actually not kidding, there are major restrictions that I don’t remember [from] when I was younger.” Kristen goes on to explain the kiss as “just something that happened in their lives. I don’t want to give anything way. It’s a really passionate, hardcore scene… No, it’s just a kiss. It’s not really a big deal.”

Sidenote: I just realized who Kristen reminds me of in these photos – she looks like Katy Perry, doesn’t she? Ugh.
