Would Daniel Radcliffe’s “aw-shucks” act work on you?

danradvogue

As some of you know, Daniel Radcliffe loves America, and he adores Broadway. So for one of his first post-Potter career moves, Dan is returning to the stage, taking the lead in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. To celebrate, Daniel was photographed by Annie Leibovitz for Vogue, and Vogue sent us this lovely video interview:

My favorite part is when Dan goes over to the giantess models and introduces himself, shaking all of their hands politely, and then telling the interviewer how gorgeous all the models are. Dan is so wonderful that way – you’d think to yourself “Wow, he’s a song-and-dance man on Broadway, he must be a confirmed bachelor” and then you realize that he must get laid like crazy. He’s so sweet and unassuming, and I have to admit, I totally would. His act would totally work on me. I love him.

Daniel Radcliffe on Sparkles rivalry: “We are striking a blow for the paler man”

fp_6045637_barm_potter_111110

You know how much I love Daniel Radcliffe, right? My DanRad love has nothing to do with Potter, either. It’s a love based on his wonderful interviews, and his passion and humor and good heart. So when I saw this headline at People Magazine – something about a rivalry between Dan and Robert “Sparkles” Pattinson, I didn’t even think that Daniel would have even deigned to comment about someone like The Sparkler. But he did! And he’s hysterical:

Team Potter or Team Cullen? A feud is brewing between Daniel Radcliffe and Robert Pattinson – who play Harry Potter and Twilight’s Edward Cullen, repectively – though the fight is likely nothing more than a figment of some fans’ imaginations.

“Someone was talking about this supposed rivalry between Rob Pattinson and [me], and what’s awesome about this is, between the pair of us, we are striking a blow for the paler man,” Radcliffe, 21, tells Access Hollywood.

There is an upside to this rumor, admitted the star of the brand new Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I. “We are white as sheets, so it’s a comfort.”

Dermatologists’ advice aside, shunning the sun does have its advantages, Radcliffe has also discovered. Though he describes himself as “quite skinny and pale,” others find him sexy.

“I did hear from a friend that when I took my shirt off [in the movie], there were some wolf-whistles [from the audience], which I was just delighted about,” he said. “I was really, really pleased.”

Not that his skin may remain virgin territory. There’s been talk of a cast tattoo, as happened with the actors in the Lord Of The Rings series.

“I suppose if everyone was doing it I’d probably as well,” said Radcliffe. “We’d have to be very specific about the design because I’m not having a skull, or any glasses, or a broom, or a Hogwarts crest – nothing like that. It would have to be something a little bit more idiosyncratic.”

Then again, “Rupert [Grint] said the other day that he’s going to get my face tattooed on him somewhere,” Radliffe said with a laugh. “So maybe I’ll just get his face tattooed on me somewhere. We’ll do sort of a swap.”

[From People]

Daniel is a very pale young man. In photos, he almost glows. I think that Sparkles gets tired of being so pale (and grey and sparkly) for the Twilight films, so he tries to have a bit of color when he’s not working. Perhaps some tanning beds for Sparkles? But yes, I’m sitting here giggling over “We are white as sheets, so it’s a comfort” and “we are striking a blow for the paler man.” God, I love pale men. It’s a problem for me. The pastier the better. Daniel would be perfect.

Emma Watson’s vintage, black mini-dress: gorgeous or tacky?

harry_potter_1_wenn3093552

These are photos from the premiere event in London for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Emma Watson and the rest of the cast were there, of course, and the whole thing is some kind of major, massive spectacle. Sure. All I care about is this dress, though – from what I can see, it’s vintage. And really short. And in certain angles, the bodice is completely see-through, although there is some kind of bra-like devise in front. I love the dress, and it’s completely appropriate for a young (albeit adult) starlet. But is it appropriate for the premiere of a kids’ movie? Eh. I’m not going to bitch about that, because Emma really does look wonderful – even her styling is amazing, great hair and makeup. To see the dress in 360, go here to The Mail.

Also walking the red carpet: Daniel Radcliffe and everyone’s ginger crush, Rupert Grint. Dan looks cute as hell, as usual, but I wish Rupert didn’t look so dirty all the time. Not a good dirty, either. “Dirty” like he doesn’t wash his ginger locks.

Daniel Radcliffe dreams of banging Broadway dancers

danrad1

These are a couple of photos from Daniel Radcliffe’s cover shoot in the new issue of Dazed & Confused magazine. Even though I’m not a huge fan of whatever is going on in these photos, I like that Daniel isn’t on the cover of Details in a wet shirt, posing with a muscle car. Although… if Dan did do that, it would be awesome and very campy. I like that he’s artsy and interesting and game for doing weird photo shoots. Anyway, in case anyone was still ringing the “DanRad is gay” bell, he’s not. He’s just BFFs with every gay man and woman out there, and at the end of the day, he just wants to end up in bed with some lithe, hot female Broadway dancer. Sigh… I wish I was a lithe Broadway dancer RIGHT NOW.

Daniel Radcliffe has vowed to remain single during his stint on Broadway next year – but admits he will be tempted by the show’s sexy dancers.

The 21 year old is preparing for an upcoming role in musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and insists he won’t be looking for a girlfriend while living in New York City.

He tells Dazed & Confused magazine, “I’ve been in relationships from the age of 14 and now I’m single. I said to a friend the other day, ‘Dude, I’m doing a show with dancers. I’ve got to be single.’”

“He was like, ‘Don’t sleep with anyone in your own show. That’s a mistake.’ It’s good advice. But I’m not sure I’ll stick to it.”

[From The Toronto Sun]

Be on the lookout, Broadway dancers! DanRad is single and ready to mingle. He’s so f-cking cute. I know he sounds like a poon-hound in this interview, but I get the feeling he treats his girlfriends like gold and is probably pretty romantic and sweet. That being said, I would LOVE to have a one night stand with him. My guess? He’s probably such a little flirt, and I bet he totally surprises you in bed.

Daniel Radcliffe talks passionately about hate crime & gay suicide prevention

NEW YORK - FEBRUARY 26: Actor Daniel Radcliffe visits Trevor Project's eastcoast call center on February 26, 2010 in New York City. (Photo by Andrew H. Walker/Getty Images)

As many know, I’ve never seen a Harry Potter film. I don’t really care – it’s not my thing. But over time, I have grown to love and adore Daniel Radcliffe solely based on how he comes across in interviews. He’s very smart, very funny, and very liberal politically. He’s engaged in politics and political issues, and he’s made gay rights one of his main public causes. Dan – who identifies himself as straight, and I believe it – is one of the biggest straight advocates for gay rights out there. He’s more than comfortable talking about his gay friends, being interviewed by drag queens, and how tolerance and acceptance should be a given. Over the past few years, Dan began working with The Trevor Project, an American initiative to offer support to homeless gay teens, and suicide prevention education amongst young, gay men and women.

So in the wake of a series of news stories about gay-bashing, hate crimes and gay suicide (like the incident of Rutgers student Tyler Clementi, who committed suicide), Daniel has taken this opportunity to lend his voice again to gay suicide prevention.

When Tyler Clementi leapt from a bridge after his roommate posted a video of his tryst with another man online, and 13-year-old Seth Walsh hung himself after enduring relentless anti-gay taunts, their actions not only resulted in tragic deaths, they helped to serve as a wake-up call that LGBT discrimination, especially among young people, is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.

Clementi and Walsh are just two of many gay teens who have recently committed suicide, and the wave of deaths has prompted high-profile names to speak out against anti-gay harassment and sparked grassroots efforts to curb intolerance.

“Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe is among many around the world saddened by the number of gay youth who felt the need to take their own lives rather than continue to deal with abuse from their peers. In an exclusive statement to MTV News, Radcliffe lamented the tragic loss of life and called for greater support for those who are struggling.

“Learning about the suicide deaths of Tyler Clementi, Seth Walsh, Asher Walker, Billy Lucas and Justin Aaberg has been heartbreaking for me. These young people were bullied and tormented by people that should have been their friends,” Radcliffe said. “We have a responsibility to be better to each other, and accept each others’ differences regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ability, or religion and stand up for someone when they’re bullied.”

Radcliffe also urged people to reach out if they believe a pal may be considering suicide.

“When a friend is feeling depressed or says they’re thinking of killing themselves, we must take it seriously and get them help,” Radcliffe continued, before directing young people to the website of the Trevor Project, an organization he has championed that provides support for LGBT youth and runs a 24-hour crisis-prevention hotline.

“My deepest sympathies go out to the families and friends of these excellent young people. And to all the young people who are being bullied right now, you are not alone. Call the Trevor Lifeline at 866 4-U-TREVOR, because there’s always someone there who will listen and who can help.”

The Trevor Project is also a supporting partner of MTV, the Jed Foundation and actress Brittany Snow’s new Love Is Louder initiative. Love Is Louder — which is also supported by DoSomething.org, Reach Out, Active Minds and the Ad Council — strives to encourage young people and relay messages of love and hope to those who feel they have nowhere else to turn.

[From MTV]

Dan isn’t the only speaking out – gay celebrities like Neil Patrick Harris and Ellen Degeneres, and columnist Dan Savage have already spoken out as well. But Dan’s one of the few straight celebrities speaking out, and I hope that more join him. This isn’t an issue where just the gay celebrities should be putting their two cents in – I think part of the reason hate crimes are committed is because the perpetrators believe that people agree with them, especially younger kids who think beating up or bashing gay kids is somehow “funny” or “acceptable” – straight people lending their voice in support of gay rights is so important, and bless Daniel Radcliffe for his continuing support. Go here for The Trevor Project’s donation page.

Here’s the video message from columnist Dan Savage and his husband:

Daniel Radcliffe gets “major points in tranny heaven” for his Out Mag profile

september-2010-daniel-radcliffe

DANNY!!! Oh, my love affair with little Daniel Radcliffe is totally unending. You know how Dan is totally in love with the gays, right? He’s like, one of the biggest gay rights advocates in Hollywood, basically. So it’s completely natural for Dan to agree to do a cover profile for Out Magazine, of course. And Out just had to send Dan’s friend, “trans musician” Our Lady J. They’re buds. Of course. One of the funniest things about this to me is that Dan is promoting Harry Potter! Disney produces that sh-t! Disney does not want their star on the cover of Out magazine, being interviewed by his fabulous transvestite buddy. Oh, well. This is why I love Dan.

The full Out interview is here, and it’s totally worth the read. First, the background on his relationship to Our Lady J, from Out: “In 2009, when the British tabloids played a salacious guessing game about the nature of his friendship with American trans singer-songwriter Our Lady J, Radcliffe didn’t jump to fire off a press release to refute the claims, as many straight young leading men would do. He’s better than that. Instead, he simply gushed about how talented he thought she was and left the world to think whatever it wanted about their relationship.” Aww…okay, here are some extensive highlights:

Daniel Radcliffe: Hi, J, how are you?
Our Lady J: I’m very well and you?
DR: I’m very, very well. I’ve just finished Potter properly yesterday.
OLJ: Did they let you keep the glasses?
DR: Yes! I’ve got two pairs from the seventh film and the pair I wore in the very, very first movie — which are really tiny on my head now!

DR: I was just in L.A. for the first time in my life. I went for the premiere of the fifth [Harry Potter] film, but other than that, I’d never really gone there before. So I went for five days and did my first round of meetings and going to studios. It was very exciting.
OLJ: You just made your first trip to Hollywood?
DR: People seem to have a very bizarre perception of me — that I’m a Hollywood actor. I don’t think of myself that way. And when I was out there and telling people it was pretty much my first trip, jaws just hit the floor. They were looking at me like I had two heads.

DR: It’s strange. I think it’s a mixture of people who actually do, in some way, think I am Harry Potter and a number of people who can’t be bothered to know my name, which is fair enough. I mean, when you’ve been so identified with one character for so long, it’s natural that it should almost become an alias. But I’ve been encouraged lately to find that people are using my real name more often.

OLJ: You’re coming to New York for your second Broadway show, this time a musical, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. What is it that you love so much about New York?
DR: I love the city as a whole, absolutely, but I love Broadway. And the community on Broadway is something that you hear talked about and talked about by other English actors who’ve been over there. And you think, Well, OK. How could it be that different or that much better? Because they make it sound amazing. And then you come to New York, and you actually experience [Broadway], and it is like nothing else. We were across the road from Gypsy when we did Equus, and we were constantly hanging out with them after the show, and it was fantastic. And we went and met with the cast from The Seagull and Black Watch a couple of times. It’s very, very hard to actually describe why New York is so brilliant. But the community is amazing, and if you get involved with all those events, and you show how much you love and appreciate being there, you really get nothing but generosity and kindness back.

OLJ: I was surprised, actually, when I first moved to New York that these people are doing eight shows a week on Broadway, and yet on their night off, they’re going down to Marie’s Crisis or whatever their favorite cabaret bar is, and they’re still singing or they’re doing a benefit on Monday night. It’s so obvious that they’re in love with the craft.
DR: I’ve got to mention Sean Hayes, who is in Promises, Promises at the moment, which is a fantastic show. Up until he hosted the Tony Awards, he was rehearsing. The hours he was doing and the commitment he showed — because the Tony Awards is not just an awards show, it’s a massive Broadway party, and for him to be showing both huge commitment to that and his own show as well — was amazing.
OLJ: Speaking of which, it’s pretty impressive that you were shooting two films over an entire year and trained for Broadway at the same time. How did you handle that?
DR: Training for Broadway is an ongoing process. I’ve been doing dance lessons for about a year and a half, at this point, and singing for two and a half years. But the singing lessons actually stemmed from having to sing the Milky Bar [candy ad] theme tune at the very beginning of Equus. For some reason, I kept inventing a new tune every night. So they sent me off to this guy, Mark Meylan, who, among other people, taught Alan Rickman [Harry Potter’s Professor Snape] to sing. To use Alan’s words, “Mark Meylan teaches through sarcasm.” He sort of just abuses you as you get it right. He’s also just a lovely, kind, and brilliant man.

OLJ: When we met during the last big U.S. election, I was so excited to find out you’re passionate about politics. Have you been able to pay attention to politics in the last year, in between filming and training for Broadway?
DR: I’ve been trying to. Certainly, British politics have been fantastic. I’ve not been keeping up with America quite as much.
OLJ: I’ve paid a bit of attention to the politics of Nick Clegg [leader of the government’s coalition partner, the Liberal Democrats]. Are you a fan?
DR: I’m a very big fan. I’ve actually met him, and I have to say he’s a really, really good man. I don’t agree with everything he says, but of all the party leaders, he was the one I voted for. I thought he was a great speaker and very charismatic and very statesmanlike. And I’m glad that he is still in a prominent position in British politics because I think he could make a great contribution. He comes from absolutely the right place in terms of what his values are.

OLJ: Is there anything you would like to see for the LGBTQ community around the world, not just in the U.S. or the U.K.?
DR: Well, obviously, in general terms, yes. The world needs to become better educated, but I would defer to you slightly on that, J, because I would never profess to be an expert. What would be high on your priority list?
OLJ: Well, I was impressed that Obama declared June national LGBT month, because change begins with education. But he also extended benefits for same-sex partners of federal employees, which is a pretty big deal. And then the U.S. State Department has a new policy that allows transgender people to change the genders on their passport to match their identity, rather than their sex, which I’m completely relieved about. It’s a bit of a hassle when you go through an airport.
DR: That really does sound very important and vital to people who are making that transition, because otherwise you presumably, as you say, still have that moment in airports when you’re forced to offer a look of explanation or something, which is totally unnecessary.
OLJ: Exactly. A lot of people keep it light and make a joke of it just to get through. But there have been circumstances where it’s been a little bit more difficult than that. How about your involvement with the Trevor Project? How did that come about?
DR: My family and I have always thought it was best to focus our efforts rather than kind of spreading ourselves too thin across a lot of different organizations — just really picking things that you care about and really, really believe in, and Trevor absolutely was one of them. And when I got to have a tour of the New York call center, my admiration for the projects, but also for the place and the people, tripled. The systems they have in place, the actual way the call center works on a practical level, is so brilliant and efficient. It’s something I’m very, very proud to be able to be involved with.

OLJ: Many transsexuals are technically heterosexual women because gender and sexuality are different things. I wonder if we’re becoming more fluid in gender and sexuality as a whole?
DR: I think that with every generation, people become more open to those ideas and more aware and more educated. But it’s a really, really slow process. If you take any family with parents who are bringing their kids up in a narrow-minded way that includes homophobia, it will take a very profound moment of realization to change those deep-seated views.
OLJ: Do you think there’s a stigma with men who date transgender women, or is it just kept in the dark?
DR: I think to a certain extent, there would be a stigma — it depends on which person you’re talking to. But I certainly think in this day and age it would be less of an issue. I was on the [Harry Potter] film set when all that tabloid stuff happened with us hanging out last year and none of my friends gave me shit about it. Nobody took the piss. And the film set encompasses groups from every area of society, and I have to say it’s a pretty good cross-section. There was certainly no stigma…. There is a novelty factor, almost, with some people. I grew up in a world where I was aware of gay and transgender culture from a very young age, because I was brought up with a real mix of people around me. And people who have a huge, different range of experiences. But not everyone grows up in the same circumstances.
OLJ: That’s why you’re getting major points in tranny heaven for doing this interview, because it is exposure and it is important.

OLJ: Are we allowed to talk about your love life?
DR: Yes. It’s very uninteresting, but you’re more than welcome to.
OLJ: What’s happening?
DR: I was in a relationship with somebody for just about three years, and we broke up just shortly before we hit that mark. But [the breakup] was very amicable. At the moment, I’m just being single and running around chasing girls. [Laughs] I’m not getting too many responses, but, yes, I’m having a go. I’m also starting to go on dates for the first time. I’ve never really done it because all my girlfriends that I’ve ever met, I’ve met through work. So we got to know each other really well at work and then kind of ended up going out.
OLJ: What is it like to go on dates as Daniel Radcliffe?
DR: It’s quite nerve-racking because it’s not something I’m used to. Not that I struggle with talking, but I have this incredible anxiety about awkward silences and pauses and all that stuff, which I think everybody worries about. But I get quite wound up about that beforehand. I do actually manage to get quite chatty in the end — probably too much — and probably a bit boring. I just try to make girls laugh. That’s really the only thing I’m particularly good at on dates.
OLJ: Well that’ll give the ladies of New York City something to look forward to when you’re in town.
DR: [Laughs] I can’t pretend I haven’t thought about that a couple of times. I’ve already had people offering to set me up!
OLJ: Well, if you ever need any help, I have a few girlfriends.
DR: Oh, fantastic. You’ll have to introduce me.

[From Out Magazine]

Is there anything else to say? God, I love this kid. I know I say that every time, but he’s just such a lovely young man. My little pocket lover. And he’s single now! Sigh…

Daniel Radcliffe thought Justin Bieber was a woman, still refers to The Bieb as “It”

FP_IMAGE_5195132/FP_SET_5193413

I know many of you won’t give a sh-t, but for my money, this is the funniest story of the week. It’s not even a story, really, it’s just a tiny little clip from an interview MTV News did with Daniel Radcliffe, probably to promote Harry Potter. I’ve said this before – I love Daniel Radcliffe, and it has nothing to do with the Harry Potter films, which I’ve never gotten into (apologies, Potterheads). My love for Daniel stems from his wonderful self-possession, his intelligence and dry wit, and his unapologetic liberal politics, which he often discusses without fear or ignorance. I can’t help it – I love hearing a young cutie with a posh voice talk passionately about economics and gay rights. It makes my panties flutter.

Unfortunately, Daniel is not talking politics in this new interview. He’s talking about music, and he’s just as cute and as funny as can be. I’ve been sitting here giggling over this one quote in particular. The MTV dude asks Daniel is he’s into pop music, and then name-checks Justin Bieber. Daniel reaction? “”I only heard Justin Bieber for the first time two weeks ago. I genuinely thought it was a woman singing. I’d never heard it before. Is it big in England yet?” That last question is still cracking me up. I can’t stop laughing. “Is IT big in England yet?” Like he’s still not sure what gender The Bieb is, so to be on the safe side, he’s just going with It. The Bieb should only be referred to as It from now on. Here’s the video… it’s even better with his accent:

Yes, he likes Gaga, sort of. He thinks “she’s kind of amazing… She’s really got a voice. My god. Not my kind of music, particularly, but she can really sing.” I’m surprised Daniel isn’t more into Gaga – you know how tight he is with the gay community, and I’m not saying that as a double entendre at all. I just mean that Daniel is a passionate supporter of gay rights and gay people in total (he even admits that he‘s “campy” and might have “gayface”). And the gays love Gaga, ergo Daniel should love Gaga. His gays really need to get on this, stat.

Daniel also discussed his love of singing karoke: “I love karaoke… I am one of those people who says, ‘No, no, I can’t, I couldn’t possibly, no I won’t… All right, give me the mic!’ And then I’m elbowing other people out of the way to get to the stage. I sang Elvis Presley’s Hound Dog. That, and then I did Feeling Good by Muse. That was my proudest moment, because I actually did that rather well. I was really pleased, because I can sing. I’ve been having singing lessons for two and a half years. I’m not amazing, obviously, but I’m all right.” He also said would “consider” a part on Glee, which he calls an “amazing show…and I’d obviously be honored to be asked. I’m not sure I’m ready for that yet. They’ve got standards like Kristin Chenoweth!” Seriously? Straight British guys know who Kristin Chenoweth is? Oh, maybe he knows her from his Broadway days? That could be it.

It.

Daniel Radcliffe records PSA for gay youth suicide prevention
Daniel Radcliffe Visits The Trevor Project's NYC Call Center

In the past year, Daniel Radcliffe has given several interviews where he’s discussed his stance on gay rights. Basically, Daniel is one of the biggest, most vocal, most amazing supporter of gay rights in the acting community. In one interview, Daniel said, “I just loathe homophobia. It’s just disgusting and animal and stupid and it’s just thick people who can’t get their heads around it and are just scared…I grew up around gay people entirely. I was the only child in my class who had any experience of homosexuality or anything like that.”

In another interview, Daniel was asked how he felt about being an “icon” to the gay community, to which Daniel gleefully replied: “It’s wonderful. I grew up around gay people my entire life, basically, that’s possibly why I’m quite camp, and some people think I’m gay when I meet them, which I think is awesome. It’s always good to keep them guessing [laughs]. I don’t go on any blogs or chats or anything, but my friends are demons for them, and apparently someone said ‘Daniel Radcliffe is gay. He’s got a gay face!’ I really don’t know what a gay face is.”

So, basically, Daniel love the gays, and they love him right back. So this new project of Daniel’s is no big surprise, but it still made me smile. Daniel has filmed an American public service announcement for The Trevor Project. The Trevor Project is an advocacy group that works on preventing suicide amongst gay youths. Daniel released a statement about his involvement in the project:

Daniel Radcliffe is explaining why he has just filmed a public service announcement for The Trevor Project, the leading organization focusing on suicide prevention efforts among gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youth.

Because his parents were both actors, “I grew up knowing a lot of gay men and it was never something that I even thought twice about – that some men were gay and some weren’t,” the “Harry Potter” megastar said Friday. “And then I went to school and (for) the first time … I came across homophobia. … I had never encountered it before. It shocked me.

“I have always hated anybody who is not tolerant of gay men or lesbians or bisexuals,” he added. “Now I am in the very fortunate position where I can actually help or do something about it.”

The result is a PSA that was filmed Friday at the organization’s Wall Street offices. The announcement is scheduled to air sometime this spring. Radcliffe first became aware of The Trevor Project, founded in 1998 by three filmmakers, while he was appearing on Broadway in the 2008 revival of “Equus.” Their movie, “Trevor,” which won an Academy Award for best short film, concerned a gay teen who attempts suicide. The Trevor Project allows young people to call in for counseling or just to talk.

“I have described myself as being ‘gently eccentric’ and slightly different as a person just because I’ve had a very different set of influences growing up than anybody else in my peer group did,” the 20-year-old Radcliffe said. “I’ve always felt very lucky to have the life that I’ve had. I never had to cope with anything serious about my religion or sexual orientation or anything like that.

“I think it’s important for somebody from a big, commercial movie series like ‘Harry Potter’ and particularly because I am not gay or bisexual or transgendered. … The fact that I am straight makes not a difference, but it shows that straight people are incredibly interested and care a lot about this as well.”

[From Huffington Post]

I think Daniel is a pretty cool kid, but the fact that he’s putting his public persona on the line to stand up for at-risk gay kids is just wonderful. He just seems so well-adjusted, intelligent and thoughtful, and I’m sure this will be only the first movement he makes to become an even more hardcore gay rights advocate – this is now his issue, bless his heart.

Daniel Radcliffe to sort-of appear naked in next Harry Potter film

wenn5192056
I’ve read all the Harry Potter books and I used to be into the movies, but I have to admit that the last film was so damn boring that I walked out halfway. (I left during a party scene which was maybe an hour in, I’m not sure.) It’s like they’re just phoning it in with these Harry Potter movies lately. The last one, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, was the sixth in the series and came out a full eight years after the first. The movies have generally matured with their fanbase and are more adult now, but a lot of us have lost interest in Harry Potter and they’re not doing much to keep it interesting. It’s always been solid, but you can kind of tell that they’re thinning out the material to squeeze as much money out of the franchise as possible.

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is a rare leading man who is both comfortable in the nude and pretty matter-of-fact about it. The kid looks good, and he’s not full of himself or too shy to be seen. He was nude on stage in Equus last year and handled it all very well.

Director David Yates, who is responsible for the super-boring last film and it’s predecessor, the more-decent Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, recently made an announcement that Radcliffe would appear “nude” in the upcoming film Harry Potter and the Deathly Gallows. In case you didn’t get the point, he said that Radcliffe would be undressed in two different scenes, but that “we’re still thinking about how we present it“:

Director David Yates says the upcoming film “Harry Potter and the Deathly Gallows” will feature a “very sexy” scene in which the boy magician appears nude alongside co-star Emma Watson, according to the Telegraph. The scene will be imagined by Rupert Grint’s character.

“We’ll create something that feels very sexy and very intriguing to bring about a reaction in Rupert,” Yates said. “Dan has appeared nude in the past. There are a couple of scenes in the new film in which he will undress, but we’re still thinking about how we present it.”

Yates said Radcliffe will also appear in the buff later in the film. “There is another scene in King’s Cross station, where Harry almost dies and sees Dumbledore,” Yates said. “In that scene, he will also be naked.”

Of course this announcement was just coincidentally made right after the blockbuster success of another teen-oriented fantasy franchise (one that’s much less cerebral) in which the male leads whip off their shirts in just about every other scene. The shirtless scenes were so gratuitous in that film it was laughable. I doubt we’ll see Harry Potter’s butt and there most certainly won’t be full frontal, but there will be enough of Radcliffe naked to generate buzz about the final two Harry Potter films. The final Harry Potter book by JK Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will be divided into two films, with Part 1 out in November, 2010 and Part 2 out in July 2011. Some of the teens who were watching this series when it first came out are now young mothers. Maybe Harry Potter will get some new fans for his big reveal.

Daniel Radcliffe outed as a casual pot-smoker

wenn5322029

Shocking absolutely no one, a 20 year old movie star smokes the occasional doob. Gasp! Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was “outed” as a marijuana-smoker by a random partygoer, who gave (sold?) her story to the UK’s Daily Mirror. There’s even one picture of Daniel, with a marker-drawn mustache, looking totally high (Mirror cover here). The circumstances were that Daniel and his girlfriend Laura O’Toole were at a party thrown by one of Laura’s friends. According to this source, Wadia Tazi (narc!), Daniel spent the evening wandering around taking drags off spliffs, saying sh-t like “I love weed.” How incriminating! Actually, Daniel has gone on record saying he doesn’t do drugs, but my guess is that he’s contractually obligated to say that kind of stuff. Here’s more from the Mirror:

Giggling Daniel Radcliffe gets off his face on dope – as a friend scrawls a comedy moustache on him. The party-loving Harry Potter idol, a spliff between his fingers, could barely stop chuckling as the girl daubed his face at the house bash.

Fellow reveller Wadia Tazi, 26, said: “Daniel was laughing and seemed to find it funny. But he didn’t really look like he knew what was going on.”

The screen idol, 20, earlier lit up the joint in front of guests and repeatedly took deep drags. He also walked around the flat blurting out: “I love weed.”

Wadia added: “I was surprised by his behaviour. He is a kids’ favourite. I’m not sure what his fans will make of it.”

Yet just last year the £30million actor insisted: “I’ve been around some amazing people and still managed to keep a real childlike view of the world. I’m not into drugs.”

The get-together, at a high-rise in Camden, North London, was thrown by a friend of his onoff actress girlfriend Laura O’Toole. Wadia and one of his pals arrived at around 1am to find just eight guests as festivities wound down. He said Daniel already seemed in high spirits but keen that the newcomers did not twig who he was.

Wadia said: “Most of the beer had already gone and people were tucking into pizzas. Daniel looked spaced out and away with the fairies. He didn’t want us to recognise him. When I said he looked like that actor in Lord of the Rings [Elijah Wood], he got a bit funny and said, ‘No, that’s not me’. He looked pretty uncomfortable. I didn’t recognise him as he looked so different to what I expected from the films. When my friend told me who he was, I was shocked.”

Within minutes of arriving at the do, Wadia, his pal and the star were alone in the kitchen – and Daniel began puffing on a joint.

Wadia said: “He was really friendly and talking about his dad a bit. Then he pulled out a huge joint and lit up. Daniel said he loved it. He seemed happy that neither of us knew who he was. At one point a girl dragged him away, saying, ‘Come on Daniel, follow me. You don’t trust me, do you?’ She pulled him into the toilet and started drawing a huge comedy beard on his face.”

The mood almost turned sour when a man called Sam – believed to be the star’s minder – and Laura confronted Wadia over footage they believed he had shot on his phone. They found none.

Wadia said: “Laura was very protective. She said Daniel had a reputation to protect and couldn’t ruin it. I presume she meant by being seen smoking. I said I didn’t know what she was talking about. But almost immediately afterwards she and Daniel left.”

Last year Daniel – now filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I – revealed that this year’s Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince contained subtle drug references.

He said: “There are a few drug metaphors in the film. I think any film marketed in the main for children still has humour that works on one level for them and on another level for adults.”

[From The Daily Mirror]

I’m in the “give the poor kid a break” population. It’s not like he was drunk driving, or coked out of his head, or pulling a Lohan (which could describe any number of sketchy situations). Daniel was at a party, he was smoking a little reefer and chillaxing, probably listening to some bitchin’ tunes and talking about the brilliance of the Golden Girls. Whoops, that’s what I used to do when I got high. Nevermind.
