Blake Lively has no willpower for diets & doesn’t work out

fp_3234992_gossip_girl_nyc_070609

Blake Lively has that body naturally, although I’m not sure those hot pants do her body justice. Do you hate her yet? Blake got a little smug in her interview with Glamour UK, and she claims that she has barely any willpower with her diet, and she has “never worked out.” Oh, Jesus. Enough! But before we get too upset with Blake’s “look at me, I’m naturally perfect” bullsh-t, we can keep several things in mind: first, she won’t always have that metabolism; second, I’m pretty sure that wasn’t the nose she was born with, and those flotation devices on her chest are most likely implants, so Blake’s not as “natural” as she wants us to believe; third, the carpets don’t match the drapes. Feel better? I certainly do:

Although Blake Lively is known for wearing skimpy outfits on the set of Gossip Girl, the 21-year-old star confesses that she doesn’t do anything to make her body look good.

“I do panic before I have to wear a really skimpy outfit, but I don’t have enough willpower,” she tells the August issue of UK Glamour Magazine. “I had to do a scene in a bra and shorts for the first time in two years,” she continues. “On the day of the shoot, I ate a pork burrito, chips and coke. Afterwards, I thought, ‘I probably shouldn’t have done that.’ But whatever.”

So maybe she doesn’t eat right, but at least she exercises, right? Wrong! “I have never worked out, but I know you feel better when you do,” she says, “so I am planning on getting a trainer.”

Lively, who has previously refuted reports of discord on the Gossip set, tells the magazine that she gets along well with her costars. “We hang out after filming,” she insists. “We actually look forward to spending time together outside of work.”

That includes her real-life leading man Penn Badgley, although she admits she was unhappy when he was cast on the series. “At first I was so upset that they hired him,” she says. “I actually poisoned the whole cast against him. But then they noticed that he wasn’t a jerk and was actually a really nice, charming person. Almost immediately I realized that too, but it took me about a week to admit it.”

[From People]

I actually don’t have any hate for this girl – she seems pretty harmless, and I do think she’s rather pretty. A little boring, but pretty. She’s hot stuff right now, with a couple of movies this year in addition to Gossip Girl. Since I don’t watch the show, I’m not sure if this is a SPOILER or not, so beware all Gossip Girl fans… are they gone? Okay, apparently Blake’s character Serena Van Der Woodsen is going to be spending some time next season looking for her real father. Blake has come out and told Mr. Paparazzi that she’d like none other than Brad Pitt to play her father. Hmm… I wonder if he’d be interested?

Elisabeth Hasselbeck sued for plagiarizing gluten-free diet book

34216377

Elizabeth Hasselbeck is being sued! There’s this woman, Susan Hassett, who claims that Hasselbeck “stole” her book idea. The book idea that was allegedly stolen isn’t what I was hoping for – something political or something sappy, about being the perfect Republican family or something. Instead, the book idea that Hasselbeck “stole” is about Celiac Disease – otherwise known as some kind of extreme wheat allergy, to the point where wheat consumption damages the small intestine. It’s a really serious thing that can effect everyone from newborns to full-grown adults, and it can make life hell.

Hasselbeck has Celiac Disease, and she published The G-Free Diet: A Gluten-Free Survival Guide, which was sort of a cookbook/handbook. Hasselbeck even has a website about being “g-free”. Unfortunately for Elisabeth, Susan Hassett wrote a book called Living With Celiac Disease a couple of years before Hasselbeck “wrote“ her book. At first I thought this was no big deal, that Celiac Disease has gotten more exposure, and more people are writing about it, and of course some of the books are going to sound similar. Turns out, not so much. Hasset sent Hasselbeck a copy of her book thirteen months before Hasselbeck published her book, which seems to be nearly identical to Hasset’s book. TMZ has the rundown of the plagiarism and copyright infringement, and they also have a copy of the letter Hasset sent Elisabeth:

Elisabeth Hasselbeck ripped off a woman by plagiarizing her disease material — so claims Susan Hassett, who fired off a letter to “The View” host just before suing her.

We obtained the letter — in which Susan claims she sent Elisabeth a book called “Living with Celiac Disease” back in April of ’08. Thirteen months later, Susan says Hasselbeck published the same book with a new title: “The G Free Diet -A Gluten Free Survival Guide.” Yes, the title sucks.

Susan compares chapters and lines. Here are some highlights.

Susan’s Book Chapter 1: What is Celiac Disease?
Hasselbeck Chapter 2: What is Celiac Disease?

Susan’s tips: “Shop in the outer isles of the supermarket.”
Hasselbeck’s tips: “Food in the outer isles of the supermarket.”

And the comparisons go on and on.

Susan just sued Elisabeth for copyright infringement and plagiarism.

[From TMZ]

This incident seems a lot like the whole Jessica Seinfeld-plagiarism scandal, where Jessica Seinfeld pretty much stole an entire cookbook from a woman, all about how to make food fun for kids. Hasset is accusing Elizabeth of stealing her general idea for gluten-free life, as well as the actual ideas, text and life-remedies contained in the book. Don’t these people know that they’ll be found out? Or is it our fault for thinking Elisabeth was actually capable of writing a book?

Scarlett Johansson defends her weight loss in Huffington Post article

90325P3

Scarlett Johansson has been getting a lot of flak lately for her sudden weight loss. She has been accused of crash dieting, and there were reports that she was using Gwyneth Paltrow’s scam trainer. Now she has come out in defense of her weight loss and explained that it is in preparation for her new role as Black Widow in Iron Man 2. She refutes the claims that she is using Gwynnie’s trainer (never met her) and that she has lost 14 pounds (“If I were to lose 14 pounds, I’d have to part with both arms. And a foot.”)

While training for an upcoming film, I’ve come to this conclusion: chin ups are near impossible and lunges suck. There is no magic wand to wave over oneself to look good in a latex catsuit. Eating healthy and getting fit is about commitment, determination, consistency and the dedication to self-preservation. While I’ve never been considered a gym rat, I have, in fact, worked up a sweat in the name of cardio before, and although I enjoy a grilled cheese as much as the next person, I combine the not-so-good foods I crave with an all-around balanced diet.

People come in all shapes and sizes and everyone has the capability to meet their maximum potential. Once filming is completed, I’ll no longer need to rehash the 50 ways to lift a dumbbell, but I’ll commit to working out at least 30 minutes a day and eating a balanced diet of fruit, vegetables and lean proteins. Pull ups, crunches, lunges, squats, jumping jacks, planks, walking, jogging and push ups are all exercises that can be performed without fancy trainers or gym memberships. I’ve realized through this process that no matter how busy my life may be, I feel better when I take a little time to focus on staying active. We can all pledge to have healthy bodies no matter how diverse our lifestyles may be.

Since dedicating myself to getting into “superhero shape,” several articles regarding my weight have been brought to my attention. Claims have been made that I’ve been on a strict workout routine regulated by co-stars, whipped into shape by trainers I’ve never met, eating sprouted grains I can’t pronounce and ultimately losing 14 pounds off my 5’3″ frame. Losing 14 pounds out of necessity in order to live a healthier life is a huge victory. I’m a petite person to begin with, so the idea of my losing this amount of weight is utter lunacy. If I were to lose 14 pounds, I’d have to part with both arms. And a foot. I’m frustrated with the irresponsibility of tabloid media who sell the public ideas about what we should look like and how we should get there.

[From Huffington Post]

Scarlett also criticizes tabloids for being so obsessed with her weight, and worries that this hooplah will inspire bad habits in her fans.

The concept of ‘Stars Are Just Like Us!” makes us feel connected to lifestyles that can sometime seem out of this world. Yes, celebrities are just like us. They struggle with demons and overcome obstacles and have annoying habits and battle vices. That said, I would be absolutely mortified to discover that some 15-year-old girl in Kansas City read one of these “articles” and decided she wasn’t going to eat for a couple of weeks so she too could “crash diet” and look like Scarlett Johansson.

[From Huffington Post]

Scarlett makes a good point. Hollywood, and those that follow celebrities, are very concerned with looks and particularly the stars’ weight. But in Scarlett’s case, it was concern over her health and inspiration as a beautiful, curvy girl rather than “oh great, she’s finally dropped the pounds!” She was never large by any sense of the word, but she had curves and a chest and cute cheeks. In comparison to most of the other starlets in Hollywood (like Megan Fox, with her patented sultry look and fake boobs), Scarlett looked like a normal gorgeous girl. I can understand why she’s lost weight to fit into a lycra suit as the bad guy in a new action movie, but I can only hope that when the filming ends, she does just as she says she will and gets back to her old shape, while still keeping healthy – ultimately, the most important thing.

Scarlett Johansson is losing weight thanks to Gwyneth’s scam trainer

moet tribute to cinema 6 240309

Long ago, during a more innocent time, Scarlett Johansson claimed she’d never dieted or gone to the gym. And by “long ago,” I mean February. A lot of things have changed in two months, because not only has Scarlett lost a good deal of weight (and curves) since then, but according to Star (via The Sun), she’s done it with diet and exercise.

I think most folk will agree SCARLETT JOHANSSON’s curvy figure is a winner. So it comes as a disappointment to learn the bubbly blonde’s famous assets may disappear after being put on a strict diet by GWYNETH PALTROW.

The actress has reportedly lost over 14lbs since she began working out with her Iron Man 2 co-star in preparation for the movie. A source told Star magazine: “The pair have been doing daily workouts with Gwyneth’s personal trainer TRACY ANDERSON.

“Scarlett is also staying away from carbohydrates.” The 24-year-old actress decided to diet, reportedly fearing she could lose out on the roles she wants to younger, more attractive actresses.

A friend said: “Scarlett has always been happy with her curves, but recently she has been feeling pressure to lose a few pounds. She knows that she is up against tough competition from younger, prettier and increasingly skinner actresses.”

Scarlett previously insisted she loved her fuller figure and felt no pressure to diet. She said: “I don’t need to be skinny to be sexy.”

[From The Sun]

What a bummer. For a lot of reasons. First being that Tracy Anderson’s diets are extremely unhealthy, and dangerous. In some cases she advocates eating less than 800 calories a day and exercising for two hours. She’s also a renowned scam artist , who has somehow gained a bit of legitimacy just by training Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna.

I really respected Scarlett for having a sensible approach to her body. And it was freaking perfect – so why shouldn’t she? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Certainly don’t go down such an unhealthy path to do it.

Lindsay Lohan’s rep denies she’s on a liquid diet

lindsay lohan 020409

Lindsay Lohan’s ever-shrinking frame must be a real pain in the ass for her publicist. The poor woman is constantly having to defend Lohan’s eating – or in this case, not eating – practices. Rumors have steadily increased saying that Lohan is eating nothing more than candy and Red Bull – with a garnish of constant cigarettes, of course. Now the current gossip is she’s even cut out the candy and is subsisting on nothing more than three Red Bulls a day.

Of course Lindsay’s rep says there’s no truth to it, though she doesn’t bother to explain the massive weight loss. And she tells us to mind our own business. Thanks.

Following weeks of buzz in the blogosphere that Lindsay Lohan’s svelte figure is not the result of healthy eating and exercise, but instead due to her downing Red Bull, smoking cigarettes and eating candy, comes a new report claiming the actress, 22, is on a liquid diet that consists of drinking at least three Red Bull energy drinks a day.

But Lohan’s rep is slamming such rumors, telling PEOPLE exclusively: “Lindsay has always enjoyed a Red Bull, but she eats. Everybody needs to mind their own business and stop worrying about what Lindsay eats or doesn’t eat.”

On the career front, Lohan’s rep also refutes a claim that the actress doesn’t use her own spray tan line, Sevin Nyne, which launches this month on Sephora.com, but chooses Fake Bake services instead. Says Lohan’s rep: “She uses her own tanning products.”

[From People]

Something tells me the spelling of Lohan’s spray tan line isn’t due to creativity so much as it’s the result of Lindsay’s poor intellect. I’m sure if we could dig up one of her old second grade tests, we’d fine the exact same spelling on there.

I bet Lohan’s rep is being somewhat truthful. Her weight loss probably isn’t due entirely to Red Bull and cigarettes. You have to factor in the cocaine, too. Red Bull can’t get you down to skin and bones like that. You need the cocaine to get rid of your muscle mass. How else can you make your legs look like those of a prepubescent? Cocaine, that’s the ticket.

Jessica Alba doesn’t let her family eat white foods

fp_2055250_jessica_alba_and_little_honor_play_in_the_park__

Women often have to get pretty hardcore to lose weight after having a baby. And the pressure for celebrities is even greater: they’re expected to drop the pounds in record time. Jessica Alba employed a fairly common weight loss strategy after giving birth to daughter Honor nine months ago. She banned all white food from her diet.

But apparently Jessica has a hard time sticking to the rule if anyone else is allowed to eat so much as a piece of bread. Not only does she refuse to let her husband eat white foods, she’s even barred her mother from enjoying them in her presence.

Jessica Alba keeps her post-baby body slim by avoiding processed foods — and implementing a “white no bite” diet, meaning she eats no white flour or sugar, reports Life & Style.

Alba, who quickly shed the 35 to 40 pounds she gained while pregnant with daughter Honor Marie, now 9 months, is making her whole family follow her strict diet.

“In order for her to stay thin, she needs everyone to be eating how she is,” an insider told Life & Style. “Even at restaurants, Jess will tell her mom to stay away from something.”

[From MSNBC’s The Scoop]

It seems a little of out of line to tell your mother what she can eat in your presence. Or anyone, really. It’s one thing not to keep or serve foods you can’t eat when you’re in your own home. The constant temptation can be too much to handle for some people. But to tell your mom she can’t order what she wants at a restaurant? That’s a bit extreme.

I’m a constant dieter so I completely understand how hard it is to be around the foods you can’t eat. But I tend to remove myself from the situation – like not go out to eat at restaurants and do something else with the person. It’s so unfair to say “I can’t eat this so you can’t either.” I will admit Jessica looks amazing… though I’m guessing she probably eats a lot of meals alone.

Is Angelina Jolie on a liquid detox diet?

fp_1997686_jolie_angelina_r1

UK’s Sun isn’t known for its brilliant reporting, so I’m skeptical about their latest story. They claimed a few days ago that Angelina Jolie was doing a crash diet – a “liquid detox” – to lose 21 pounds in 21 days. The Sun claims that people on the production of Salt were concerned that Angelina might bust something doing a stunt, because she’s been left so weakened by the detox:

ANGELINA JOLIE is causing concern on the set of her new film Salt with a crazy diet called liquid detox.

She aims to shed 21lb in just 21 days for her role as a CIA officer unmasked as a Russian spy. But Ange is raising eyebrows as everyone thinks she has a fantastic figure.

The diet — living on a mixture of lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup — is leaving her weak.

A source said: “She does all her own stunts but we worry she could injure herself due to the weight loss.”

How any mum can survive without at least four Mars Bars a day is beyond me.

[From The Sun]

I was going to ignore this, because just a cursory look at pictures from the set of Salt shows Angelina pretty much looking like she did last month, two months ago, et cetera. But the story’s being picked up all over the place, because everyone loves a good “Angelina is too thin, and a homewrecker” story.

If forced, I’d say that she’s probably lost a few pounds, but nothing major. And I just don’t buy that Angelina really cares what weight she is, and I really don’t think she’s likely to do some weird cayenne pepper and maple syrup diet. And The Sun forgot to do a little basic research: this sounds like it’s the (in)famous Master Cleanse diet. Isn’t it like the cabbage soup diet, only spicier?

Vegan Heather Mills signs $6 million deal with Burger King

90306X7

Heather Mills’ plans for vegan world domination just went a little askew. Though she’s been busy promoting the plant-based diet for impoverished kids in the U.S., Heather’s not above taking some serious cash in exchange for promoting Burger King. Now to be fair, she’ll be helping to advertise their new vegetarian burger – presumably in the U.K., since they already have a meatless burger in America.

Heather Mills has signed a £3 million deal to promote vegetarian food at Burger King, according to a report.

The ex-wife of Sir Paul McCartney has apparently agreed to back the launch of a new meat-free burger at the chain’s 11,350 outlets worldwide.

A friend told The People: “Heather is ecstatic. She believes she can change the eating habits of millions. She’s also being paid a lot of money and the deal will help boost her standing.”

News of Mills’s deal comes just three months after McCartney announced plans to revamp his late wife Linda’s vegetarian food range.

A source close to McCartney commented: “Sir Paul will probably see a certain sense of irony in Heather’s career move. But he won’t be fuming. If more people become vegetarian as a result of this, then some good will come out of it.”

Mills has also decided to launch a range of plant-based food at her new seaside cafe.

A spokesperson for the ex-model said: “Heather has been a vegan ever since she lost her leg and she has been developing and refining vegan recipes ever since.”

[From Digital Spy via Gossip Rocks]

I don’t think it’s normally a vegan-approved thing to promote a product for a company that still sells a lot of meat. I’m no expert, but I practically get mowed down by PETA protestors every time I go into KFC, and they sell salads. Okay salads with chicken, but you can get them without it. They also enjoy trying to shove pamphlets of chickens having some fiery, oily death into my hands, but that’s neither here nor there. I guess I’m just surprised Heather would associate herself with Burger King as long as they’re still selling the Triple Whopper with cheese. Or as I like to call it, the triple bypass with cheese.

I realize there’s little Heather won’t do for money, but she’s so pushy and self-righteous about her vegan stuff (I’m not saying all vegans are, I’m just saying she is), that I assumed that would be the line. So I guess we now officially know exactly how much Heather Mills can be bought for. So we all need to pool our resources and come up with $6 million to buy her eternal silence.

Kate Winslet says she doesn’t get the “craziness for being skinny”

revolutionary road 6 161208

Unlike Gwyneth Paltrow’s extreme attitude towards weight control, Kate Winslet has a relaxed and much healthier way of keeping her body in shape. According to a recent interview in Elle, Kate says she doesn’t even go to the gym. Instead, she spends twenty minutes a day doing a pilates DVD, and doesn’t get too crazy with what she eats. And the actress says she genuinely doesn’t understand all the body obsession in Hollywood.

Forget trainers and two-hour gym workouts. Kate Winslet has another secret to her movie-star figure: 20 minutes and a DVD. Winslet, who at 33 is a slim size 6 (UK size 10), tells the UK edition of Elle that “I don’t go to the gym because I don’t have time, but I do Pilates workout DVDs for 20 minutes or more every day at home.”

And, Winslet says, she’s been the same since she had her second child, Joe, five years ago. “I still don’t believe this craziness for being skinny, but I eat sensibly and I don’t stuff down chocolate biscuits,” she tells the magazine in its February edition.

Despite a set of stunning, sexy shots in Elle that show off her body, she is modest about her shape, calling herself “pretty average.” She adds, “I have cellulite, I have a rumply tummy and my boobs have dropped. I did think that post-kids, my sex scenes days were over.”

Far from it. Both her current movies – Revolutionary Road, directed by her second husband Sam Mendes, 43, and costarring Leonardo DiCaprio, and The Reader – contain sex scenes.

[From People]

Kate’s attitude sounds a lot better than other people’s extremes. The press – especially the British press – has always been obsessed with documenting her weight. She’s gone through periods of being a bit heavier than she is now, but Kate’s never been anything close to fat. And she’s been steadfast in her refusal to diet or go to any kind of extreme measures to conform to other people’s ideas of what her body should be. Clearly her focus is on health, not on weight.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s detox diet – like the cabbage soup diet but fancy

madonna party 241208

Gwyneth Paltrow has sent out yet another hysterically ridiculous GOOP email. In this month’s edition, Gwyneth lectures us on the proper way to detox. Keep in mind this is the same woman who was admitted to the hospital last January after doing a fast. She never commented on the episode, but clearly it hasn’t taught her to be safer with her health. Gwyneth sent out directions for what looks to be a very uncomfortable detox. It’s certainly not Master Cleanse severe, but it doesn’t strike me as anything I’d want to do.

Here are two example menus:

DAY FIVE

7am (or upon rising): Glass of room temperature lemon water
8am: Herbal tea
10am (breakfast): Peach and Almond Smoothie (follow method for Blueberry and Almond Smoothie)
11:30am: Coconut water
1:30pm (lunch): Raw crudite (carrots, green beans, radishes, cucumbers, zucchini) with Carrot and Ginger Dressing
4pm (snack): Beet, Carrot, Apple and Ginger Juice
6pm (dinner): Cucumber and Avocado Soup

DAY SEVEN

7am (or upon rising): Glass of room temperature lemon water
8am: Herbal tea
10am (breakfast): Raspberry and Rice Milk Smoothie (follow method for Blueberry and Almond Smoothie)
11:30am: Coconut water
1:30pm (lunch): Miso Soup with Vegetables
4pm (snack): A handful of almonds
6pm (dinner): Steamed fish, quinoa, roasted squash

[From Goop]

I suppose you could argue that because this is a detox and not a long-term diet plan, this isn’t that severe. Gwyneth includes a week of recipes, and I doubt you could do that much harm if you only did it for seven days – but no longer. But anytime you deprive your body of needed calories – say less than 1,200 a day – you have the potential to mess up your metabolism in the long run. In college I did plenty of stupid diets (hello cabbage soup!) and did one for an entire summer that was under 500 calories a day. Needless to say, I didn’t lose more than three pounds and was a raving bitch the entire time. That really taught me a good lesson: bodies like food. Give it to them, in reasonable, healthy proportions.

If Gwyneth were recommending this as a healthy diet to follow all the time, it could be dangerous. She makes some really stupid remarks about how she’s carrying holiday weight that just make me want to kick her as hard as I can. The woman is a rail, and I have never seen her look like she’s put on even five pounds. There is not a curve on her body. I’m not saying that’s good or bad, but the idea that we’re supposed to believe she’s put on holiday weight is annoying. That must mean 1.5 pounds to her. I find her emails – and her whole GOOP website – incredibly annoying. Gwyneth is not a nutritionist, and she seems to like experimenting with her health. That’s fine for her, but recommending it to anyone else seems dangerous.

At the end of her email, Paltrow gives us a little teaser for next time, noting, “Next week my fitness guru, Tracy Anderson, gives us an exclusive video to get our butt in shape for the new year!” This is the same woman who recommended a less than 800 calorie diet to Us Weekly, along with two hours of exercise a day. Apparently Gwyneth’s resolution for the new year is to make sure all her fans get sick.

Here’s Gwyneth leaving Madonna’s house party in London on December 23rd. Images thanks to WENN.
