Alex Rodriguez must bribe his friends with a lot of cash or favors, because they are constantly doing his bidding. They’re like cheap, half-assed PR reps. By most accounts it was A-Rod’s friends who started the rumor that soon-to-be ex-wife Cynthia was having an affair with Lenny Kravitz after Alex suggested she spend some time in Paris at Kravitz’s pad.

Now they’re saying Cynthia is responsible for the end of the marriage, and each friend has a different reason: she kept him “caged” (I think by that they mean married); “got into his head;” and alternately wouldn’t give him a divorce but told him he could have affairs.

While soon-to-be-divorced Alex Rodriguez is still in the hot seat thanks to his mysterious Madonna meetings and the various adultery allegations that swirl around him, A-Rod’s friends say he’s the injured party. According to various sources who spoke to the New York Daily News, Alex’s wife, Cynthia, emotionally manipulated the third baseman and refused to let him out of their troubled marriage.

One friend described Alex as psychologically vulnerable, and said Cynthia “got into his head.” As for claims that Alex put Cynthia through a lot, too, with the alleged extramarital relations, sources defended him, rather than denying the affairs. “When you keep a man caged, he’s going to go crazy when you let him out,” an insider explained.

Another source stated that Alex wanted a divorce, but rather than agreeing to it, Cynthia told her husband he had her permission to pursue other women. “He said, ‘I hate this. I want out,’ but she kept insisting they could work it out,” the source told the paper. “After about six months of him asking for a divorce, she said it was okay for him to see other people, but she wouldn’t agree to a separation.” The friend failed to explain Cynthia’s later change of heart.

I love the “When you keep a man caged, he’s going to go crazy when you let him out,” line. Exactly what the hell does that mean? Did Cynthia Rodriguez have some giant, serial killer-esq cage specially constructed for the basement where she kept A-Rod whenever he came home? If so, I can understand how he’d go hog wild whenever he got out. Otherwise, what I suspect this “friend” is referring to is a closed marriage. I.e. no having sex with other women, probably no strip clubs, and probably no porn if she could stop it. Sounds like a lot of marriages. If you’re not into that, that’s fine. That’s a great reason not to get married.

I’m surprised A-Rod has thought it so beneficial to smear his wife and try to blame her for all of this. What ego. It seems like most celebrities are smart enough to heed the advice of a good PR rep and take responsibility, act like they feel a ton of remorse, and then battle it out in court. Rodriguez has found it much more important to try to make his wife look bad and like she forced him into Madonna’s arms. And I’ve got to say, if he’s looking for arms like that, then he’s probably just looking for a dude.

Pauley Perrette, the funky goth chick who plays a forensic examiner on CBS show NCIS, is going through a legal battle in which she claims her ex husband, Coyote Shivers, stalked and terrorized her and another woman. Shivers is a musician who was married to Bebe Buell, Liv Tyler’s mom, from 1992 to 1997. He married Perrette in 2000 and they were separated in 2004.

Perrette has had four consecutive restraining orders against Shivers stemming from his abusive behavior and citing a supposed incident in 2004 in which she claims he raped and sodomized a woman named Angela Garber. In two YouTube videos, Shivers says that Perrette is setting him up and trying to ruin his life. He produces what he claims is a screenplay by Perrette detailing the very scenario she accuses him of. He also reads off what he says are e-mails from the supposed rape victim, Angela Garber, proclaiming her love for him up to a year after the date of the incident.

Shivers comes off as sane enough in his first video, and I was inclined to believe his account that Perrette is somehow out to get him for whatever reason he doesn’t fully explain. Then he goes off in his second video and claims that Perrette and Garber are colluding against him. He seems off balance and kind of wild and it makes you wonder why a woman would go through the trouble of obtaining multiple restraining orders against an ex, especially if their divorce is already concluded. Each side often tries to smear the other in an acrimonious divorce but you can’t help but think that Perrette is the victim. The 2006 Fox News report Shivers mentions in his video states that his other ex, Bebe Buell, also has a similar story of abuse and intimidation by him during their relationship.

Perrette, 39, is now living with a 25 year-old former pizza delivery guy she met in 2004 when he was working on the set of a film in Michigan. She was still married at the time to Shivers and each of them filed for divorce shortly afterwards. It’s just a good thing there are no kids involved in this mess.

After the way her last marriage went, you can’t really blame Christie Brinkley for being turned off by the institution. And after a total of four marriages, the model now claims she will never marry again. Which is probably for the best. While the court-ordered psychiatrist said she was healthy and sane, and that her anger at ex-husband Peter Cook was to be expected – he also said she needs to work on her “choice of male figures.”

“I’m not going to marry again,” the model, 54, told the New York Post hours after her trial ended Thursday. “I know too much about the marriage laws and divorce laws. Getting married again would not be a very intelligent thing to do.”

At her trial, a court-appointed psychologist said Brinkley “needs to start working on deeper issues,” including “her choice of male figures.” Still, she says airing her dirty laundry at the public trial was worth it. “I’ve got my sweet freedom!” said the model, who retained sole custody of her kids and will keep all 18 properties in the Hamptons that were being disputed. (She agreed to pay the 49-year-old Cook $2.1 million.)

“I was fighting for my family,” Brinkley said. “I think when you’re fighting for your family’s well-being, almost anything you have to go through is worth it.” She kept a sense of humor when asked if she were glad the ordeal was over. “I was down to my last outfit!” she cracked. “It had to end.”

Christie gets to keep all of her 16 Long Island properties – which cook wanted, arguing that while she paid for them, he helped pick them out. And of the $2.1 million he was awarded, sources say the vast majority of it will go to his legal bills.

Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook have reached a settlement in their divorce ahead of what could have been another explosive day of testimony in open court. The couple and their lawyers worked late into the night at a hotel on Long Island hashing out the details. Christie will have sole custody of the children. Cook received a $2.1 million settlement and visitation rights to his children Sailor Lee, 10, and Jack, 13. Jack is from Christie’s last marriage but was adopted by Cook.

Cook will see the kids every Wednesday and alternate weekends along with alternate weeks in the summer. Christie Brinkley will get to keep all of her whopping 18 properties in the Hamptons. [Details from US Weekly]

Brinkley fought to have the details of her divorce made public. She learned a few things about her husband’s behavior during the 10 years they were actively married. Cook had a rampant porn addiction, seduced an 18 year old girl he hired to work at his architecture firm, and dealt cocaine in the 1980s.

A psychologist provided an assessment of Cook for the court which called him a “narcissist” who “needs constant reassurance that he is a terrific guy, handsome, accomplished, etc.”

Brinkley testified that she worked hard to make a wonderful life for her children and was baffled that her husband seek out sex with strangers online and have an affair when he had “beautiful, loving children” at home.

TMZ reports that two detectives were due to testify in court today about Cook and that he may have been anxious to ensure that whatever they knew about him was not made public.

It looks like Brinkley’s strategy of making the proceedings public worked in her favor. Whether it was the best thing for her kids or not remains to be seen. They’ll get to be with their mom, their dad hasn’t been cut out of their lives, and things are finally settled for their family.

The Madonna/A-Rod spiritual cheating and subsequent A-Rod divorce story keeps getting more interesting. Yesterday we heard that Cynthia Rodriguez went on a wild spending spree in Paris after the news broke of her estranged husband’s alleged affair with Madonna. Rodriguez is said to have blown six figures on a lavish first class vacation for herself, two friends and their daughter at a time when she was rumored to have been on a getaway with musician Lenny Kravitz. It turns out she did spend time with Kravitz and friends in Paris during his tour stop there, but the two are not romantically involved. She spent more time getting spa treatments, going to the best restaurants, and generally letting off steam.

The NY Post reports that Kravitz had just dumped his manager, Guy Oseary, after learning of the way that Oseary used a maybe purely cult-driven relationship to generate publicity through a fake cheating story. In retaliation for being fired by Kravitz, Oseary is said to have leaked the story that A-Rod’s wife Cynthia had jetted off to Paris to be with him:

Dodd Romero, the hulking fitness trainer who accompanied Cynthia to Paris, told The Post that Kravitz blames his former manager, Guy Oseary, for entangling the rocker in the twisted tales about Madonna and the Yankee slugger.

Romero called Kravitz two weeks ago to tip him off that Oseary – who managed Kravitz, Madonna and A-Rod – was about to “pimp out Madonna and A-Rod,” said a source. But Kravitz didn’t approve and told Romero, “I’ll take care of this” – and fired Oseary.

Kravitz was shocked when he was then accused of having a fling with the slugger’s wife, said the source. Romero believes Oseary planted the story in retaliation for being dumped.

Kravitz, Cynthia Rodriguez and Romero were all in Kravitz’s tour bus when the reports broke in Paris. “Lenny looked like he was going to throw up,” Romero told the Post. “Lenny said, ‘I worked so hard to clean up my image and now I’m gonna get dragged into this.’ ”

The trio planned to fly to Spain to meet up with Denzel Washington, whom Romero also trains, but canceled when Kravitz’s alleged tryst made news. The group agreed it was best for Cynthia to instead head back to Miami to “sort out the mess.”

A rep for Kravitz confirmed he dumped Oseary two weeks ago.

The Post’s source, Dodd Romero, is the same trainer who said earlier in the week that A-Rod was “totally brainwashed” by Madonna and that “he got pulled in by the dark side.”

Speaking of the “dark side,” Rodriguez was photographed having lunch yesterday with Rabbi Michael Berg, the director of the Kabbalah Centre. If A-Rod thinks his wife is trying to take him to the cleaners he should wait and see how much cash he ends up giving that organization for whatever enlightenment they’re going to bestow on him. It doesn’t sound like his involvement in the cult has benefitted his career or personal life so far.

I should feel like a really bad person for cheering whenever the divorce proceedings between Linda and Hulk Hogan worsen. But then I think about the way karma is biting them so deliciously in the ass, and this big, perverse grin spreads across my face.

Linda is trying to get Hulk thrown into jail for reneging on a contract to purchase a $4.3 million condo in Las Vegas. The two had been ordered by a judge to complete the sale, even though they’re in the middle of divorce proceedings. But when the day came to sign the final pictures, Linda claims Hulk was nowhere to be found, and suddenly his attorneys and friends had no clue where he was. What it really comes down to is Linda needs a place to party with her cougerlicious boys.

Hulk Hogan left his signature bandanna at home today, because it could clash with the orange jumpsuit a judge may force him to wear.

Hulk and soon-to-be-ex wife Linda were in court in Clearwater, Fla., as Mrs. H. asked hizzoner to hold her estranged hubby in contempt for failing to close on a $4.2 million Vegas condo.

As we first reported, Hulk wants to bail out on the deal — even if it means he loses his $840,000 deposit. Linda says they had an agreement to close on the condo and Hulk had no right to withhold the cash.

Hulks lawyers went off to E! News about how selfish and crazy Linda is for still wanting to purchase the condo. They also pointed out that in light of the lawsuit by John Graziano’s family, it is both financially imprudent and morally tacky to throw $4.3 million into luxury real estate. Which is totally true. But I’m behind anything that somehow results in either Hogan elder spending time in the slammer.

Christie Brinkley had another day on the stand in her divorce trial yesterday. She testified how hard she works to have an ideal family life, saying she loves baking birthday cakes, planning holidays and activities with the children. She claimed that family is “the only thing I’ve ever wanted” and “the most important thing – to have a big, happy family.”

Brinkley has daughter Alexa, 20, with ex Billy Joel, and son Jack, 13, with her husband before Cook, Richard Taubman, and daughter Sailor Lee, 10, with Cook. Cook adopted Jack in 1996 after he married Brinkley. She has plenty of help at home, and has had a nanny, cook, gardener, and a woman to do the laundry. She still spends a lot of time with her children, and testified that she always puts them first before her career.

Her lawyer entered into evidence a dinosaur diorama she built with Jack for his science class “complete with a volcano and flying raptors.” [Details from AP]

She also said she routinely snowboards with son Jack and loves preparing for Christmas. Cook’s lawyer shot back at her, saying she wasn’t the supermom she portrayed and that she accomplishes it all with a lot of paid help:

For Christmas, her $30 million Bridgehampton mansion was transformed into a “wonderland.” She made her own birthday cakes, jumped on a snowboard with son Jack, 12, stocked her home with disaster relief kits and always penciled Jack and daughter Sailor, 10, into her calendar before modeling shoots, she said in Central Islip.

But just as Brinkley was making the case for being the better parent for her two children on her second day on the witness stand, her estranged husband’s attorney dismissed her mothering skills as those of a superboss who relied on the help of a sizable staff.

“Are you trying to tell us that during this period, you were kind of a one-man band, doing everything?” asked Peter Cook’s lawyer, Norman Sherseky of Manhattan.

“I would say that I put in a very busy day,” Brinkley, 54, shot back, conceding that Cook doted on his kids in the marriage’s early years. She told her lawyer during direct examination: “Every nanny that I have knows that it’s a household where the mother is present, that they are more like a mother’s helper.”

There’s a revealing editorial in the NY Daily News that question’s Brinkley’s portrayal of herself as a marytred power mom, betrayed by her husband as she sacrificed everything for her kids. Author Jo Piazza says you can see how their marriage unraveled. Cook must have actively worked to pull down the perfection his wife tried so hard to build:

Brinkley detailed just what a domestic goddess she truly is. How she is a stay-at-home mom, completely devoted to her children and her family.

She is so devoted that since her split from Cook, her fourth husband, she has sworn off men. For the kids’ sake, of course.

Devoted isn’t even a strong enough word. Brinkley might actually be Supermom.

After seeing a story on the news about how a child had died of heart failure because there was no defibrillator in the house, she bought one for the family home and a spare one for the house of Peter Cook’s parents … just in case.

After 9/11, she bought all manner of protective gear, including enough gas masks for every member of their household – and even some of the neighbors…

Yes, it may seem over the top, but a good parent does anything he or she can to try to protect the kids. And Brinkley had the means to do that.

She swam and surfed and skied and sailed with them. When daughter Sailor Lee took up tap-dancing, she bought herself and son Jack pairs of tap shoes so they could all tap together.

And, oh, the Christmas parties! Each year, Brinkley put her all into throwing a Christmas carol singfest.

She would meticulously type up the lyrics to all the songs and pass them out as her ex-husband Billy Joel played the piano and everyone had a gay old time.

Well, everyone except for probably Cook.

Brinkley says he scowled his way through the last Christmas the pair spent together before “the betrayal.” That’s how she refers to Cook’s infidelity with teen lover Diana Bianchi and his love of Internet pornography.

Peter Cook is obviously a flawed man. The novelty of having a beautiful wife must wear off when she is the one wearing the perfectly tailored pants all the time.

Having to deal with Brinkley’s perfection and the gleaming life she built for them must have been difficult. He got destructive and to make himself feel better about playing second fiddle, had to destroy her idyllic world.

There’s no excuse for what he did. If there were problems in their relationship he could have tried to work on them with his wife instead of escaping into porn and carrying on an affair with a teenager. She’s painting a rosy picture of her life with the kids, and considering what her husband did she certainly seems like the parent who should get primary custody. She admits that her life revolves around her children, however and it’s easy to see that there was little or no room for Cook. That in no way justifies his abhorrent behavior.

Brinkley said she hasn’t dated since her marriage dissolved, and that “I’ve just been completely focused getting the kids over this painful event. I think it would inappropriate because I think the kids have been though a lot of changes.”

As for her husband’s motivations, she finds it baffling and cites their children together as motivation for staying faithful: “I mean, sneaking out of the house when you’ve got beautiful, loving children there, to go choose instead to masturbate on the World Wide Web, just makes me worry about his judgment.” [Quotes from the NY Post]

Cook’s lawyer notes the many times Brinkley publicly praised her estranged husband as a good father, and say that she’s working to cut him out of his children’s lives.

It is thought that an alleged girlfriend of Cook’s, interior designer Bridget Nisivoccia, 36, might be called to testify in the divorce. She maintains her relationship with Cook is only professional, although there is speculation that they had a relationship after he and Brinkley were separated.

Alex Rodriguez’s annoyed wife Cynthia did jet off to Paris, but maybe it had more to do with spending her estranged husband’s money than meeting with her rumored lover, rocker Lenny Kravitz. The NY Daily News reports that she took off to the French city, paying for first class tickets for herself, two friends and their daughter. Once there she had spa treatments, ate at exclusive restaurants, and had a grand time all on her husband’s credit card. She’s also hired four different lawyers and Alex’s legal team claims she’s deliberately keeping him from his two daughters, Natasha, 3, and Ella, 11 weeks.

Spurned spouse Cynthia Rodriguez used the Yankee slugger’s credit card to the tune of $100,000 to punish him for a dalliance with Madonna that both he and the Material Girl deny, an A-Rod pal said.

“She’s been spending wildly,” the friend said. “She spent close to $100,000 on her jaunt to Paris.”

Cynthia flew the godparents of her daughters, Dodd and Sabina Romero, and their older daughter, first-class to the City of Light, the friend said.

There, Cynthia “had spa treatments, she went to the best restaurants,” the A-Rod friend said. “She originally was going to head to Spain, where Lenny Kravitz was touring.”

In addition to embarrassing Rodriguez and feeding false rumors that she and the rocker were an item, Cynthia gave A-Rod a taste of the gouging to come, the friend said.

“She needs four lawyers in two different states?” asked the friend. “That’s not the dream team, it’s the greed team.”

Also, the pal said, Cynthia has deliberately kept A-Rod from his daughters while tarring him as an absentee father.

“Alex desperately wanted to see his children while she was in Paris,” the friend said. “She blocked him. She said, ‘You cannot see them.’”

The News notes that A-Rod’s legal team is releasing this information in response to the many stories from Cynthia’s side about his questionable relationship with pop star Madonna. Yesterday her lawyer clarified an earlier statement and Alex’s alledged infidelity, calling his dalliance with Madonna” an affair of the heart” and not “sexual infidelity.” It sounds like A-Rod was doing some late night Kabbalah study at Madonna’s place. His former trainer called Rodriguez “brainwashed” by the singer, and said that he got all wistful and faraway whenever her songs were playing.

The Daily News had another story yesterday that revealed the lengths to which Madonna and Rodriguez went to keep their “friendship” secret. They claim that he frequently took the back service elevator at Madonna’s apartment complex – which led straight to her bedroom. Madonna has denied an affair with Rodriguez, and blamed the media and its gullible consumers for believing the reports about their affair. TMZ claims that she has timed the stories about the trouble in her seven year marriage and is postponing her divorce for maximum press coverage in advance of her European tour later this summer.

TMZ claims to have an insider source that confirms what a lot of you have suspected about Guy Ritchie and Madonna’s marriage – they’ve been going through the motions for a while and are milking it for maximum publicity and profitability.

These two are said to be waiting to officially split until her “Sticky and Sweet” European tour is complete. They’re hoping that the continued speculation about their marriage will help Madonna sell as many tickets as possible and that she’ll continue to land on the front pages of the glossies. They even waited to visit divorce lawyers to ensure maximum buzz. When her tour is over and she has enough piles of cash to ensure that their children are set for life they plan to part amicably. It’s all business for Madonna’s personal life as well as her well-controlled career:

Never forget — Madonna is the master at using the media to her advantage, and the current are-they-or-aren’t-they divorcing drams is no different. Now we’re hearing Guy and Madge’s peeps have been planning this for months, hoping the hubbub will sell more tickets to her upcoming tour.

Well-placed sources tell us the Ritchies plan to officially split in November or December — after the Mrs.’ upcoming “Sticky and Sweet” world tour. Why? Big bucks. The concerts are expected to earn close to $300 mil worldwide, and they’ve decided to ear mark that to provide for their three children’s future…

There is a whole PR strategy that has been in place for some time. We’re told the Material Girl will be “very visible” in the months leading up to the tour to “generate a lot of publicity.” That’s when “news” of the marriage’s demise would slowly leak out, causing tongues to wag — and Madonna to be on the cover of papers and mags around the world.

The marriage, we’re told, has been effectively over for some time. The couple are friends, and have realized that it is in both of their interests to make a pile of cash from this tour. No working things out here — our spies say rumors of reconciliation are “garbage.” One person told us, “She is simply playing the media — and the public — as usual.”

TMZ talks a lot of shit about people, but their sources are usually solid and they had the scoops in the Heath Ledger case before the other news outlets. They don’t seem to make up stories based on hunches like the gossip rags and I would bet they have good reason to publish this. It makes sense, too.

Meanwhile Alex Rodriguez’s wife Cynthia officially filed for divorce in Miami today. She cited her husband’s “extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct” and said he “emotionally abandoned his wife and children.” Cynthia Rodriguez is seeking custody of their two children, Natasha, 3, Ella, 2 months, along with child support and alimony. Madonna is not named in the divorce papers, but as we reported earlier today her lawyer told the media that Alex’s “relationship with Madonna was the final straw for Mrs. Rodriguez.”

Third baseman Rodriguez has a 10 year contract with the NY Yankees worth $275 million. He has a prenuptial agreement with Cynthia, but she may contest that. We’ll have to wait a few months to see if this news about Madonna holding to her failed marriage for the sake of her tour is true. In the meantime Alex Rodriguez’s divorce will get a lot more media attention because of his alleged relationship with the pop star.

Madonna wants you all to know she really, really isn’t planning on getting a divorce. She also isn’t involved with Alex Rodriguez, and thinks that newspapers and the internet are full of shit. Which is kind of funny, since that is what most newspaper and internet writers think of her.

She has issued this statement to People magazine.

In it, she says: “My husband and I are not planning on getting a divorce. I know Alex Rodriguez through Guy Oseary, who manages both of us. I brought my kids to a Yankee game. I am not romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez. I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage or what spiritual path he may choose to study.”

“I have learned over the years not to take accusations and the many false reports about me very seriously. I also appreciate how fiction and fact seem to be perceived as one and the same by people who read both newspapers and the Internet.”

Given Madonna’s reputation for being extremely guarded and controlling about her public image, I actually thought the wording of this statement was interesting. Firstly, she is ‘not planning on getting a divorce’. This would fit in with reports that Madonna and Guy are not comitted to a divorce yet, for the sake of their children. I think that a custody agreement could get complicated given that Madonna’s eldest daughter Lourdes is not Guy’s biological daughter, but from a previous relationship.

She also says she is not romantically involved with Alex Rodriguez, not that she has ‘never’ been involved with him in the past, ever.

Alex’s wife Cynthia will be filing for divorce this Monday, according to her newly employed attourney Earle Lilley. Lilley leaves no doubt who is the cause of the divorce, telling ABC News affiliates that “The relationship with Madonna was the final straw for Mrs. Rodriguez.”

In a haughty appearance on Oprah defending her illegal adoption of David Banda, she was all too proud to announce that she doesn’t watch the news, go online for news, or read a newspaper. This is f’ing ripe from a woman who spends tens of thousands of dollars a month on water that’s been blessed. Because smart people don’t take in information from different sources and use critical reasoning skills. According to Madonna, smart people pay someone else to tell them what’s true.

And it looks like she’s teaching Alex Rodriguez to pay an authority figure to tell him what’s true too. His own personal trainer says he’s been brainwashed by Madonna. Whether she screwed him or not, she surely screwed his marriage by helping him buy into the same belief system.
