Kate Winslet in red Elie Saab: love it or lump it?

fp_7899225_rij_2011_emmys_s
Kate Winslet wore a very clingy red Elie Saab gown to last night’s Emmy Awards. The dress showcased those curves she’s constantly talking about, but she really worked it, in my opinion. She’s showing a hint of cleavage without hanging out, her hair and makeup are similarly understated but just right, and she accessorized with some gorgeous Cartier drop earrings and a two-tiered tennis bracelet. I know others will disagree, but I’m impressed with the dresses overall at the Emmys. There were plenty of simple, elegant non-fussy gowns in solid colors. Since I favor more conservative styles with clean lines most of them were just my style.

Kate won best actress for Mildred Pierce, with her costar Guy Pearce taking home the Emmy for outstanding supporting actor. I’ve seen both the original and the current HBO remake of Mildred Pierce, and while I enjoyed the miniseries I felt that they could have cut out about 1/3 of it, or nearly two hours, and not have lost much. It didn’t have the impact it could have. Maybe the pacing was consistent with the time period they were portraying. The scene where we finally get to see Evan Rachel Wood’s merkin was devastating though. I won’t reveal much in case any of you are waiting to see it, but that moment actually made me gasp out loud.

emmy_press_room_04_wenn3520
Kate thanked the cast and crew of “Mildred Pierce” during her speech. She said “This, really, I feel like had nothing to do with me – it was all you.” She also thanked her mother very graciously. “Mildred Pierce was capable of great acts of love as a mother, but she was also an extraordinary multi-tasker. To that end I actually do have to share this with my mum. It doesn’t matter how old you are or what you do in your life, you never stop needing your mum, and I will never stop needing mine. So thanks mom.”

emmy_press_room_09_wenn3520
During his acceptance speech for outstanding supporting actor, Kate’s co-star Guy Pearce joked that it was awesome to get to have pretend sex with her so many times. “This was really a delightful experience making Mildred Pierce. I got to have sex with Kate Winslet many many times. And I didn’t realise it was going to result in this. So Kate I share this with you because you’re an extraordinary woman, thank you, for allowing me to insert myself into your world of Mildred. And to my wife, Kate, who had to listen to me talk about that every day when I came home from work. Thank you my darling and I’m sorry.”

Peter Dinklage wins for Game of Thrones, where are the rest of the hot guys from GOT?

fp_7900127_rij_emmys_press_
Peter Dinklage won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a drama series at last night’s Emmys. He was being honored for his performance as Tyrion Lannister in “Game of Thrones,” specifically for the Baelor episode where he parties into the night with a prostitute and a friend, his protector Bronn, and reveals some sad details of his past. The next day is his first on the battlefield.

peterdinklage
My favorite line from his character on Game of Thrones was when the barbarian leader asked him how he wanted to die and he answeredIn my own bed, at the age of 80 with a bellyful of wine and a girl’s mouth around my c*ck.” That saved his hide at the time, to reveal a mild spoiler.

During his acceptance speech (below), Peter thanked the writers David Benioff and Dan Weiss, along with HBO. He also thanked his “dog sitter, whose name is Kitty, for taking care of my dog Kevin back in NY,” gave a shout out to the other nominees and told his wife he loved her. “I love you Erica, you’re amazing.”

fp_7899694_rij_2011_emmys_s
Also at last night’s Emmys was Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) bringing his sweetness to the red carpet. Sadly missing were other supporting castmembers, particularly all the male hotties. We’re talking Sean Bean, Jason Momoa, Iain Glen, Alfie Allen, and Richard Madden. It’s possible some of those guys were there and just didn’t get their photos published by our agencies, though. The show is new and they still don’t have much name recognition.

The evil queen Cersei Lannister was there, though. Lena Headey’s Botox face on GOT bugs me so much. She has dark hair when she’s not in character, and she’s a hipster with a lack of style. I recently saw some photos of her at Comic Con and she looked like a cartoon character she was dressed so poorly. Here she is looking smug in head to toe black. Our photo agency, Fame, didn’t even know who she was and labeled another dark-haired actress as Lena.

Here’s how she looks on the show. All she can do is squint.

The ladies of Glee at the Emmys: no one got it right

wenn3520757
In a sea of elegant, simple gowns at the Emmys the younger ladies of Glee were all a little too fussy and try-hard for my taste. To recap, Glee didn’t take home anything this year except a guest spot award for Gwyneth Paltrow, which was presented at a separate ceremony that Goop didn’t bother to attend. Since Gwynnie’s dress was so bad, Kaiser will make fun of it in another post. Right now let’s focus on the actual stars of the show, who all brought the fug.

wenn3520011

wenn3520006
First off is Lea Michele in Marchesa. The cut of this dress is ridiculous. I like the color and the back is really cute, but look at those shoulders, which consist of some kind of bunched up material in a vaguely rose-like configuration. It makes her look like a football player, and like she’s ready to kick someone’s ass, which is probably the case given all we’ve heard about her. She loves red dresses and sometimes can look decent in them, but this one is a fail.

fp_7899026_rij_2011_emmys_s

fp_7899027_rij_2011_emmys_s
Here’s Dianna Agron in a baffling Roksanda Ilincic draped blue dress. It looks very matronly, especially paired with that terrible hair. She never gets it right. It’s a shame because she’s could really wear the hell out of some gorgeous gowns.

fp_7899098_rij_2011_emmys_s

fp_7899100_rij_2011_emmys_s
Jayma Mays in a bizarre tiered tulle Zuhair Murad monstrosity. She looks like she’s trying to channel her Glee character’s style. This is also reminiscent of one of those “lady” toilet brush cover from the 70s.

fp_7899173_rij_2011_emmys_s

fp_7899175_rij_2011_emmys_s
Ditto on Heather Morris in this jaw-dropping (not in a good way) purple-ish v-neck gown with diagonal ruffles. It looks like Givenchy, but I can’t get a designer ID on it. Whatever it is, it’s way too fussy. Look at her high hair and overdone makeup too.

fp_7899690_rij_2011_emmys_s

fp_7899689_rij_2011_emmys_s
Naya Rivera in an intricately folded black dress. It’s not amazing, but it’s not bad either. Compared to her co-stars she was well dressed.

fp_7899726_rij_2011_emmys_s

fp_7899725_rij_2011_emmys_s
Jenna Ushkowitz in a Duran-Duran looking cubic black and white gown with a high leg slit and black peep toe shoes with bows on them. Did she share a hair and makeup artist with Heather Morris and Naya Rivera? They all have puffy fug hair, heavy eyeshadow with giant fake lashes and neutral lips and cheeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had the same stylist too.

Gwyneth Paltrow & Justin Timberlake were honored to win Emmys. Not.

wenn35009261

“An Emmy?!? How gauche.” – Goop

Justin Timberlake and Gwyneth Paltrow are the same, you know. Both are incredibly dated, both think they are God’s gift to Hollywood, both are snotty mean girls, both “dabble” in music, and both still use “NOT” as a legit joke. As in, “Gwyneth and JT are cool. NOT.” And now they have one more thing in common – they both won Emmys! Believe it or not, I think JT was probably deserving of his Emmy – he got the Outstanding Guest Star in a Musical/Comedy for his Saturday Night Live appearance. JT has won two Emmys before – one in the same Outstanding Guest category in 2009, and one in 2007 for the music for “D-ck in a Box”. Meanwhile, Dame Goop won her Outstanding Guest Star Emmy for her horrible, uncool, pitchy, uncomfortable, singing and booty-shaking performance on Glee. Jesus, Emmy voters. Don’t encourage her.

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards — you know, that other Emmy ceremony — handed out dozens of awards Saturday night in Los Angeles before the upcoming primetime ceremony, airing live on Fox Sept. 18.

The night’s biggest recipients were Gwyneth Paltrow, who won an Emmy for her guest starring role on Glee, as well as Justin Timberlake, who took a statue for his most recent hosting gig on Saturday Night Live. Deadliest Catch was the most sentimental winner: The reality show (which submitted Capt. Phil Harris’ final episode) won an award for outstanding non-competition reality show. It also won the gold in categories like best cinematography and picture editing.

Survivor‘s Jeff Probst took home another statue for best reality show host. The night’s other notable recipients included Loretta Devine (outstanding guest star, Grey’s Anatomy), Paul McCrane (oustanding guest star, Harry’s Law) American Masters (outstanding nonfiction series) and Futurama (outstanding animated program). And hey, The Walking Dead earned some gold for its great work with prosthetics.

Overall, HBO won the most awards with 15, followed by PBS (10) and Fox (9). Among shows, Boardwalk Empire took the most, followed by Deadliest Catch (4) and Gettysburg (4). The awards will air on Reelz Channel Saturday, Sept. 17.

[From Entertainment Weekly]

So I guess Kathy Griffin didn’t win? Guess not. But I do love Kathy’s yearly tales from the Schmemmys. I saw some photos from the Creative Arts Emmys too – Kathy was there. Neither Gwyneth nor Justin made it. That’s how much they give a crap. NOT. Gwyneth was probably in London still, doing fashion events and work for Coach, while Justin… um… I saw photos of him at the US Open. Guess he just didn’t feel like coming to pick up his award. You know both JT and Gwyneth will probably be at the big Emmy ceremony this weekend, though.

Emmys Fashion: The Worst, Most Hideous looks of the evening

wenn2979673

There was a tremendous amount of fug fashion last night, even from some repeat offenders. Like January Jones – what the fug is this mess? It’s Versace, by the way. Donatella needs her head examined for making this crap for January. Beyond the hideous (too bright) dress, January hair was hideous, and she looked WAY too thin. Also: seashell boobs!!!

As offensive as January was, the truth is that she’s still young enough to say, “Well, she’s still experimenting with her look.” You cannot say this about Rita Wilson. Rita usually knows what looks good on her figure, and she usually has pretty decent taste. Not last night – Tom Hanks was nominated as executive producer of The Pacific, and this is how Rita showed up:

wenn2980435

Hideous, right? Sparkly fisherman’s net. Check out her Prada shoes:

wenn2980455

I know Anna Paquin was wearing a dress by the late Alexander McQueen, who was one of her favorite designers. But I think this looks horrible – on her, for this event. Maybe for a different event, with different hair and makeup, I wouldn’t hate this so much. But I just think this does nothing for her.

Sometimes it’s difficult to judge someone as badly dressed because it’s not even that they look terrible, it’s just that in mind, they could have looked spectacular. Sofia Vergara just didn’t bring it – she could have looked amazing, and this dress just seems to be phoning it in. Controversial choice, I know. It just doesn’t do anything for her figure or her coloring.

Dianna Agron (is that her name?) in funky princess styles. Hated it. Next.

I thought Julie Bowen looked like hell too! And the camera kept cutting to her during the Emmy telecast because she was in the front row. She was wearing WAY too much makeup, and her dress makes her look like a mermaid whore.

Now, I don’t know this chick’s name. She’s Ty Burrell’s wife, and I am embarrassed for her. My first thought was “cat toy.” My second thought? “How could she think this looks cute?”

Honestly, Glenn Close looked much prettier in motion, and you can tell that she’s a beautiful woman who is aging naturally, and I applaud that, for real. Plus, she can act the pants off of nearly every woman at the Oscars. So on talent alone, Glenn is awesome. But I didn’t care for this look at all. Something was off, and I still can’t put my finger on it. Like, the color should have either been darker or lighter, and the fit should have been better and her hair should have been different. Eh.

I kind of loved Julia Ormond’s dress, honestly. The fit was awesome, and it looked great on her. The hair just ruined it for me.

Lauren Graham. Hated it. Next.

Jewel. Hated it. She looked like a pale pink doily.

Heidi Klum in Marchesa. Hated it. Too short – it was neither age appropriate nor venue-appropriate. And her styling sucked too – who wears a huge, chunky necklace with a tiny little minidress? Tacky.

I thought Keri Russell looked very pretty, actually. It just wasn’t appropriate for the Emmys. This would have been good for a premiere (with a better fitting bust, right?) – but for the Emmys, she needed another three inches of fabric at the bottom.

I wanted to like Elizabeth Moss’s dress, I really did. I find her adorable, and I want her to have great fashion moments. But the color washed her out, and I hate the crap on her shoulder, and the hair is horrible, like Sally Field in Steel Magnolias helmet hair for a 50-year-old grandmother.

Ever since I saw Rose Byrne in Get Him To The Greek, I’ve been in love with her. But these Bride of Frankenstein styles have got to go.

Speaking of Bride of Frankenstein, Mindy Kaling. I love her, she’s quirky and interesting and a really talented writer, but NO. Honey, just stop.

Jane Krakowski – always a bad dresser. This doesn’t make her top five worst looks, but she still needs a new stylist.

Is Betty White still being dressed by the Golden Girls costumer? Because she can afford to hire someone better. I still love her though.

Emily Blunt should know better. This is so fug, it hurts my eyes.

I think Toni Collette is one of the best actresses of her generation. I also think she’s one of the worst dressers of her generation. While this is a really, really great look for Toni (it fits and everything), it’s still a fug look overall. It looks like she’s been walking in mud and dung.

A dude made it on the worst-dressed list – Mr. Alan Cumming. Now, I love Alan. I love his funky style, because I think it’s genuine and not some hipster affectation, you know? He really is this strange. So I love to hate this look – women’s palazzo pants, loafers, and an ascot. Bless his funky heart.

Emmys Fashion: The Best Looks of the evening

primetime_emmys_arrivals_05_wenn2979415

At last night’s Emmys, I have to admit that no one really blew me away with a look that was so fabulous, so right-on, so immaculate that I was seething with fashion envy/jealousy. But there were some good, even great looks. I actually thought Jane Lynch was one of the best-dressed of the night (above). She chose a very girly, princess-y gown in a deep amythyst color which looked great on her. She seemed to be the harbinger of two trends: jewel tones and one-shoulder gowns, both of which I wholly endorse. Plus, Lynch won last night, which was spectacular for her. WHOOP!

Claire Danes was one of my best-dressed of the evening. This is Armani Prive, and it could easily have washed her out. But something about the right tone and her hair – I don’t know, it really worked. It worked everywhere – on the red carpet, on stage, and in photos. It’s a fabulous dress, and Claire kept everything else simple in service of the dress, which was smart.

I thought Lea Michele looked adorable, and I’m not even a fan. This dress moved beautifully, and the fit was gorgeous. It’s Oscar de la Renta.

Lea Michele arrives at the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on August 29, 2010. UPI/Lori Shepler Photo via Newscom

Here’s a controversial decision – I’m putting Kyra Sedgwick on the best dressed list. I know, I know: her hair. But the dress, the makeup and the first-ever Emmy win (WHOOP!) make up for the bedhead. The color was absolutely fantastic too. Plus, I just love her.

Kyra Sedgwick arrives at the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on August 29, 2010. UPI/Lori Shepler Photo via Newscom

Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta = WIN. This looked great on her, she looked smart and pretty and age-appropriate and sexy. Plus, the detailing on this dress is gorgeous.

Primetime Emmy Awards Arrivals held at The Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California on August 29th, 2010. Tina Fey Fame Pictures, Inc

Christina Hendricks in Zac Posen. At first I was like, “Jesus, Chrissy, put down the damn feathers.” This dress is all about boobs and feathers and STATEMENT. But you know what? This is actually not hideous. The color is nice on her and the dress compliments her figure, and it’s one of her better red carpet looks.

Julie Benz in bridal styles. I can’t hate it though, she’s kind of pulling it off.

I’m only putting Jennifer Westfield (in Armani) on the best dressed list because I want to look at The Hamm (he was in Armani as well). Personally, I find her dress “meh”.

I liked Maura Tierney’s whole look. The short (post-cancer) pixie hair looks great on her, the color popped, and the dress moved well. It doesn’t look great in still photos, but whatever.

This dress on Dexter’s Jennifer Carpenter made me think she’s like a prettier Gisele Bundchen. She looked gorgeous, I think. The hair was a little bedhead, but she looked glamorous and sexy.

Amy Poehler makes the best dressed list just for showing up three weeks after giving birth! She looks great. The color isn’t my favorite, but it doesn’t wash her out and she looks very pretty. Great nursing boobs too!

Julia Louis Dreyfus is another example of a woman who has found what works for her, and wears that style consistently. She usually wears Narciso Rodriguez, and she consistently looks good. Plus, her styling was great.

Yes, Edie Falco was a mess. The dress didn’t fit right and the hair was off. But I’m still putting her in the best dressed because suck it.

The Good Wife’s Archie Panjabi unexpectedly won Best Supporting Actress in a Drama. She looked great! She’s so, so pretty. Love her now.

I feel like we’ve seen Susan Sarandon in this dress a million times before, but at her age, I’m glad she’s found a consistent style that works for her (insert side-eye to Rita Wilson, who you will see on the worst dressed list). And Susan does look great, albeit kind of boring. Her daughter Eva Amurri looks like a bombshell though – so, so pretty.

The 2010 Emmys: The Open Post (updates)

LOS ANGELES, CA - AUGUST 25: Celebrity seating place cards are displayed during the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards press preview Day at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on August 25, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images)

Sigh… CB and I debated a little about how best to cover this year’s Emmys (which most people have forgotten about), and here’s what we’ve decided: today, Sunday, we’re going to have this open post for all of you to talk about whatever Emmy-related observations you want in real time. I’ll be updating throughout the night with winners and losers and my take on interesting moments throughout the telecast. And then tomorrow, we’ll do a bunch of fashion posts and a “Hot Guy Awards: The Emmys” or “Hot Guy Emmys: the Awards” post. I’ll let you decide on the name. I can already predict that Hugh Laurie and Jon Hamm will make my list of Hot Guy Emmy Awards.

So, I’ll kick things off: who are you excited to see? What are you dreading? I’m excited to see the Mad Men people, of course, and I’m actually looking forward to Clooney & Canalis’ appearance. You know that will be some good gossip, and we should be able to determine in mere seconds whether of not Clooney is over her ass yet. As far as Emmy fashion… well, who are the Emmy girls who usually bring it? See… I can’t really think of one. You know Christina Hendricks is probably going to look like hell, just because no one ever knows how to style a pale, buxom redhead. It’s like stylists need their own Rosetta Stone to figure out where to start with her.

Anyway, to start things off, I just thought I’d show some of my favorite photos of some of my favorite Emmy boys, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, acting weird at the Emmys in years past. The photo of Colbert and Kanye is making my life, actually. The one of Colbert and Jason Jones is pretty righteous too.

PRE-RED CARPET UPDATE: Jesus, what will it take for E! to give Kristen Dos Santos her own show? She knows everything about television, and she would be far more entertaining than these Hills sluts.

RED CARPET UPDATES:
*Didn’t Kelly Osbourne look cute? She’s lost so much weight, and her hair is very pretty.
*ZOMG Ty Burrell’s wife’s dress was insane. She looked like a cat toy.
*Kill me now, because I loved Claire Danes’ pale, beaded/sequiny Armani.
*Wasn’t Kim Kardashian a really good red carpet interviewer? Why doesn’t she have that job? She asks all the right questions and she was surprisingly charming. You could tell La Seacrest was PISSED.
*Jane Lynch looks gorge! As does Lea Michele in de la Renta.
*God, I hate Eva Longoria. With a passion.
*Ricky Gervais looked cute, but JESUS CHRIST JON HAMM HAMM HAMM!!!!!!!! My God. The Hamm in Armani, there should be a law against that.
*January Jones looked like unkempt hell, right?
*I haven’t seen Christina Hendricks full dress yet, but I see lots of boobs and feathers. I’m terrified.
*Bryan Cranston looked cute. I don’t watch Breaking Bad so I have no strong opinion about him though.
*Ooooh… who caught Kate Gosselin’s bitchface on the red carpet? That sh-t was funny.
*Christina Hendricks didn’t look terrible in her Zac Posen. Also: could the camera be on her boobs any more? The camera guy was actually zooming in on them!
*Tina Fey made a rare fashion win in Oscar de la Renta.
*Heidi Klum’s dress was all kinds of wrong, as was Mindy Kaling’s.
*Stephen Moyer & Anna Paquin – cute, but not stellar. Anna seemed like she was phoning it in.
*The little boy from Modern Family is adorable!
*So… La Seacrest was trying to cruise Neal Patrick Harris, correct?
*Hugh Laurie & Steve Carrell are so cute! I love Nancy Walls too. I miss her.
*Kristen Dos Santos is knocked up again! Congrats!
*Juliana Marguilies looked “eh”. I likes Julie Louis-Dreyfus’s Narciso gown. She always wears Narciso, and it always works for her.
*I love Glenn Close and everything, but she didn’t look that great, right?
*I can’t help my overwhelming attraction to John Krasinski. I find him adorable.

Okay, Susan Sarandon just walked off before Guiliana had the chance to interview her, so the red carpet is winding down. I’ll update this post in a few hours with some of the winners and lowers, y’all!

UPDATE – The Awards: The opening was hilarious! Betty White + The Hamm’s dance moves = magic. Also: Clooney + Modern Family cast = hilarity

**Note: George Clooney “won” the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award and gave a short speech. He didn’t walk the red carpet, from what I saw, and I didn’t see Elisabetta Canalis whatsoever. She was bragging everywhere about going to the Emmys with him. Did she get dumped? Was she there? Apparently, she was there, but she got very little camera time, which must have killed her.

Jon Hamm loses to Neil Patrick Harris, plus photos from the Creative Arts Emmys

creative_emmy_awards_3_01_wenn2968201

You know what pisses me off? When there are new photos of Jon Hamm and the photo agencies hide them! I didn’t even realize that The Hamm was in attendance for Saturday night’s Creative Arts Emmys (as Kathy Griffin says, “The Schmemmys”), which are the Emmys given out for the technical aspects of television, like makeup and editing and such. I had to look through the whole photo set to find My Hamm! Anyway… gradually, The Schmemmys have gotten increasingly A-List, and a handful of really cool people show up and support their technical peeps. The Hamm gets bonus points for showing up – granted, he was nominated for Guest Star (for 30 Rock), which he lost to Neil Patrick Harris. But The Hamm didn’t have to show! I love that he did, though. Such a gentleman.

Other Best Guest Star winners were Betty White (for SNL), Ann-Margret (for Law & Order: SVU) and John Lithgow (for Dexter). Here are some additional photos from the Schmemmys of Christina Hendricks (looking lovely in black, and with shorter hair), NPH and his baby-daddy, Lily Tomlin, Kathy Griffin and Kristin Chenoweth. Oh, and Alan Cumming looking… damn, I kind of want him in that cheesy blue plaid.

Once again, the complete list is at Entertainment Weekly here.

I just wanted to gush about a few people that I’m so happy about – Christina Hendricks! YAY! She totally deserves that Emmy nomination, she’s been rocking the Mad Men house for three seasons, and she’s become one of my favorite characters. And John Slattery! I have naughty thoughts about that Silver Fox, for real. And he’s so talented and beautiful, just a lovely actor. I’m also happy to see Sofia Vergara from Modern Family – she really is hilarious on that show, and I worry sometimes that people won’t see beyond her lovely and epic rack to understand she’s a deft comedienne. That being said, Jane Lynch will probably win that category. Also – Modern Family’s Ty Burrell! YAY! He’s been a character actor for so many years, and he just found his role with this dorky, strange, hilarious dad.

Disappointments: That no one beyond Matthew Fox, Terry O’Quinn or Michael Emerson from Lost got acting nominations. It would have been wonderful to see some of the other actors get recognized, like Elizabeth Mitchell, or Jorge Garcia, or Josh Holloway (I just want to see that motherf-cker in a tux, though). And no Ed O’Neill from Modern Family? WTH? He’s another extremely underrated actor who should have been recognized for his DECADES of great television work. Also – I would love to see some of the other actors from The Closer get recognized, Jon Tenney in particular (he plays Fritz, Brenda’s husband). Oh, well.

Katherine Heigl deigns to put herself up for an Emmy nomination

wenn2855733

One of the first moments most of us had on our multi-year realization that Katherine Heigl is an insufferable diva was a little incident that happened almost two years ago exactly. Dame Heigl released a public statement in June 2008 about how she was withdrawing her name from the Emmy nominations because, in her own words, “I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention… In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials.” She threw the Grey’s Anatomy writers under the bus, plus she’s so conceited that she insinuated that she would probably win if nominated, and she wanted to deign to give another actress a shot.

After that, a lot of sh-t went down, and Dame Heigl has only reaffirmed (in my mind) her bitchy, holier-than-thou, conceited diva ways. In my opinion, she felt like she was too good to be on Grey’s, and was trying to talk her way into getting fired. It worked, kind of. In the 2009-10 season, Katherine was only in a handful of episodes in the fall, with the idea that she would come back in the spring. She didn’t. But that’s not stopping her from submitting herself for an Emmy!

Though she sat out more than half of the season of Grey’s Anatomy, Katherine Heigl has submitted herself in the supporting actress category for this year’s Emmy race, her representative confirms. There is no set amount of episodes that an actor must appear in to be eligible for either the supporting or lead actor categories.

Heigl only appeared in a handful of episodes this year before her character, Dr. Izzie Stevens, was last seen around Seattle Grace in January. Heigl was due back on the set of the ABC drama March 1 but she never showed up. Heigl told EW that “rumors that I refused to return were totally untrue.” ABC Studios said it was mutually agreed upon that Heigl would end her run this season.

Nominations for the 62nd Primetime Emmys will be announced July 8. As for the rest of the Grey’s stars, Ellen Pompeo submitted herself as lead actress, while the other ensemble members — including Patrick Dempsey — will duke it out in the supporting categories. To vie for the best drama prize, Grey’s submitted the two-hour finale, as well as the episodes “The Time Warp,” “Suicide is Painless,” “I Saw What I Saw,” and “Give Peace a Chance” for consideration. NBC will air the Emmys on Aug. 29.

[From Entertainment Weekly]

Perhaps I’m unfamiliar with the way Emmy campaigns are run (I’m more familiar with Oscar campaigns, honestly), but it was my understanding that it’s the show runners, producers and network/cable company that does the majority of determinations for Emmy nominations and Emmy campaigns, rather than the individual actors and actresses. Granted, I don’t doubt that an actor can wage a one-person campaign, but it seems like the most effective campaigns are going to be with the explicit blessing of, you know, the show, the producers, the other cast members. A lot of money goes into these campaigns, and I doubt ABC and Grey’s producers want to spend money waging a campaign on behalf of Dame Heigl.

Anyway, I hope whoever does the determining of Emmy nominations (a committee? Emmy pre-voters?) hands Heigl her ass on a platter. Oh, and you know how Dame Heigl left Grey’s because she’s a big movie star because she’s focused on being a mom? Well, the movie star stuff isn’t working out quite as she planned. The Killers, her movie with Ashton Kutcher made a paltry $16 million on opening weekend, coming in third. My guess is that it will have something like a 70% drop in the second week.
