The San Francisco Chronicle’s gossip blog, The Daily Dish, claims that Jake Gyllenhaal has proposed to Reese Witherspoon. It sounds like they’re quoting a gossip magazine, probably one that came out today for next week, but they don’t source their quotes. They say that Jake proposed to Reese way back when they had that much-publicized trip to Rome together, but that Reese demurred because it was too soon after her divorce from Ryan Phillippe. Reese has supposedly accepted Jake’s proposal now, though. This news comes right after a story that Jake was pouring over engagement rings at Cartier with the help of his sister, Maggie, but that he settled on a white gold “Love” necklace featuring two rings intertwined.

Friends claim Gyllenhaal proposed to Witherspoon during the couple’s vacation in Rome last October. Oscar-winner Witherspoon said “not yet,” so soon after her split from Ryan Phillippe, but reportedly has since said “yes,” after consulting with close friends.

A pal says, “Not only were they (her friends) crazy about Jake, they could see he was absolutely nuts about her. But you’ve go tot understand — Reese is a one-man woman who hates playing the field.

“When Jake proposed in Rome, he knew Reese needed time, and didn’t really expect her to say ‘yes’ right away. He just wanted her to know that he was serious about their relationship — serious enough to make her his wife.”

These two took pains not to be seen together at what was thought to be the beginning of their relationship last spring. They were first photographed together off set in July. They were seen in all-too-clear shots seeing the sights in Rome this October and looked like they were posing for the cameras right around the time that their film, Rendition, came out. People claimed their relationship was for publicity, but now they’ve been seen together on separate occasions getting coffee and going hiking with Reese’s kids. They even took a vacation together this fall, and may have been on vacation in Martha’s Vineyard together late this summer.

It seems like these two are for real, but are they really engaged? It’s possible, but doubtful. We’ll have to see if Reese is seen out with an engagement ring, or even her beautiful new necklace.

Drew Barrymore is said to be pushing her “Get a Mac” boyfriend, Justin Long, to propose despite her bad track record with marriages and the fact that she’s only been dating Long for five months. 32 year-old Drew was married to LA bartender Jeremy Thomas from March, 1994 to February, 1995. She was just 19 at the time. Her next marriage, to obnoxious comic Tom Green, lasted from July, 2001 to October, 2002. That’s how long the marriages officially lasted, but she split with both husbands well before their divorces were final of course. The National Enquirer points out that her two marriages lasted less than six months combined.

Drew Barrymore - who’s weathered two divorces - is determined to marry her new boyfriend Justin Long even though they’ve dated for only five months, her pals reveal…

“Drew knows she can make a marriage work - and she thinks Justin is the one,” a friend told the Enquirer. “She kidded Justin that his New Year’s resolution is for him to ask her for her hand in marriage…

“Drew has been pushing him to pop the question to her around her birthday in February,” revealed the insider.

Justin took Drew to Thanksgiving with his family in Connecticut, and it sounds like these two are getting serious while managing to avoid the spotlight. They also took a nice vacation together in Florida right before Christmas. Star reports that they checked into “the Delgano hotel in Miami Beach on December 19th after spending the weekend in the Florida Keys.”

Justin has a decent career ahead of him. Although he’s best known at the Mac guy in those commercials, he also stars as the voice of Alvin in the Alvin and The Chipmunks movie. Justin and Drew met this summer on the set of the upcoming film she’s producing, He’s Just Not That Into You, in which he stars.

There was a big deal made out of a night Drew had out with friends in Toronto in early November. She was photographed drinking a beer (shocker) and talking to some guy at a bar. She looked like she was whispering in his ear but maybe she had to yell because the music was too loud and that’s why she was so close to him. We haven’t heard much about Drew since so it sounds like she’s settling into a nice routine with her boyfriend and that they’ve managed not to go shopping at high end boutiques or eat at the paparazzi-swarmed restaurants.

Maybe the third time will be the charm for Drew and she’ll achieve a life of domestic tranquility away from the flashbulbs. She seems to realize what she needs to do so that people won’t needlessly speculate about her, with this recent minor exception.

Professional Hot guy, Josh Duhamel, is reportedly engaged to singer, rapper, and part-time Pea, Fergie. Duhamel’s press agent announced the couple’s engagement Thursday.

Stacy Ann Ferguson, the singer Fergie’s real name, has been nominated for a Grammy in the best female pop vocal category for her debut album “The Dutchess.” Fergie’s solo album, as well as her work with rap mega-group The Black Eyed Peas, has catapulted her to pop-superstardom and led her to challenge Gwen Stefani for the title of “Funkiest White Girl in California” in the 150lb and under division.

Josh Duhamel’s big break came when he out-prettied Ashton Kutcher at an IMTA modeling contest. Duhamel might be most recognized for his part in Transformers, but he also appeared in the 2006 movie Turistas and in the NBC show Las Vegas. Duhamel won a daytime Emmy for his role as Leo du Pres, a handsome and debonair scammer, on the ABC soap opera All My Children.

Given Duhamel’s romantic history, you might wonder if du Pres was really an act. The AP article says Duhamel told interviewers that he and Fergie have been dating for “about three years,” yet Duhamel’s wikipedia entry claims that in 2004 he “was engaged to his girlfriend of several years, fashion model Kristy Pierce”

At this rate, we predict all those women warm for Duhamel’s form may have to wait several months before he is officially back in circulation.

Recently knocked-up Jessica Alba may be engaged. I’m allowed to say “knocked-up” because it was a movie and is now part of the lexicon, and is no longer disrespectful. Right? Okay let’s go with that. Though Alba loudly proclaimed that she wasn’t getting married anytime soon (Us Weekly reported, “She doesn’t want to be pregnant in a dress!”) it appears she’s at least gotten engaged. Photos were taken of Alba driving in her car with a very large engagement ring on her left hand.

Mom-to-be Jessica Alba was seen leaving the gym earlier today with what seemed like a huge rock on her finger.

Could her beau Cash Warren have proposed over the Christmas holiday? That rock is wayyyy too big to be a gym ring, and she wouldn’t be wearing it unless it was a new engagement ring right?

The couple had initially broken up over the summer because Alba reportedly wanted to get married and Cash wasn’t ready. Three months later, they’re back on and there’s a baby in the oven.

Alba has said that she doesn’t want to be pregnant in a wedding dress so don’t wait for a shotgun wedding, but it looks like Cash is going to make an honest woman out of Alba after all.

If Jessica and Cash are engaged, I will point out that she’s also making an “honest” man out of him as well, since they’re both going to be parents soon. The couple has been dating since they met in 2004 on the set of “Fantastic Four,” where Cash was a director’s assistant. They broke up briefly this summer, reportedly because Jessica wanted to get married and Cash wasn’t ready. I don’t want to be totally obnoxious, but Cash Warren could do a lot worse than Jessica Alba. Have you seen her butt? I would give both my eyes and at least one leg for that butt. Granted it wouldn’t be nearly as sexy strapped to one leg, but I think I could make it work. If they are indeed engaged and Jessica isn’t just pulling a Britney Spears/Lindsay Lohan by wearing a huge ring on her left hand, congrats to them both!

Jessica Alba recently announced that she is pregnant with her boyfriend Cash Warren’s child, with her rep confirming that the baby is due is late spring/early summer. There was no story of a possible wedding or even rumors of an engagement, but one of Alba’s colleagues may have accidentally let the news slip. Her Fantastic Four costar Doug Jones had this to say about Alba’s pregnancy: “Jessica and her fiance are wonderful, and they’re going to make the most beautiful babies ever.”

Was it just a mistake or does Jones know something the public doesn’t? It sounds like the type of thing that could be an innocent error and pregnant Jessica might not be planning a wedding.

SFGate also reports that Alba has already declined three offers from magazines to pose in the “nude” while heavily pregnant with her hands and props strategically placed for modesty. Demi Moore, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera are among the celebrities who graced us with semi-nude glamor shots while pregnant, and Alba isn’t eager to join that camp. Maybe she’ll reconsider once she’s further along.

Alba has been keeping healthy during her early pregnancy. She hit the gym yesterday and the day before. She was also photographed out shopping for the holiday yesterday on Rodeo Drive.

Jennifer Love Hewitt, 28, and her boyfriend of nearly two years, Scottish actor Ross McCall, 32, got engaged last week, according to several sources. The two are vacationing in Hawaii, where Jennifer has gotten a ton of unflattering press in just about every entertainment magazine and blog out there. The curvaceous actress may have put on a little weight lately – and apparently everyone needs to call her out and criticize her for it. To me she just looks normal – she’s never been one of those stick-thin Hollywood types, and I congratulate her for it.

She was the inspiration behind former boyfriend John Mayer’s hit ‘Your Body Is A Wonderland,’ but not even a famous muse like Jennifer Love Hewitt can escape a little weight gain. A combination of harsh sunlight and a skimpy bikini left the newly buxom star with nowhere to hide as she hit the beach for a swim during a Hawaiian getaway.

The star’s curvy, cellulite-riddled physique was in stark contrast to the slender - and airbrushed - frame she showed off during a recent advertising campaign for US label Hanes. Still, the star of I Know What You Did Last Summer, who was enjoying a romantic break with boyfriend Ross McCall, says she happily embraces her imperfections.

In a cheeky nod to Mayer’s hit, Jennifer recently joked: “My body is far from a wonderland. My body is more like a pawnshop. There’s a lot of interesting things put together, and if you look closely you’d probably be excited, but at first glance, not so much.”

Well if nothing else it sounds like Jennifer probably won’t care about all the negative things being said about her physique right now. Frankly we have such a ridiculous idea of what women should look like. We can’t walk around air-brushed in real life, and it puts a ridiculous pressure on everyone by saying “this is the norm.” Jennifer just had some ads come out for Hanes in which she’s been airbrushed to into oblivion. I don’t just mean her shape, but they’ve done so much to her face that she just looks like some generic computer-generated model instead of a real person.

While I’m not promoting an unhealthy lifestyle, it’s important to find a happy – and healthy – middle ground between the unrealistic images Hollywood sends us and the McDonald’s addicted lifestyle a lot of Americans have. I think Jennifer going to the beach to celebrate her engagement and not giving a damn about her cellulite reminds us that there’s more important things on her mind. Congrats!

American Idol runner-up and all-around hottie Katharine McPhee, 23, is engaged to her boyfriend of over a year, Nick Cokas, 42. Even if you’re an “Age ain’t nothing but a number” sort, there’s something kinda creepy about Cokas. Probably the way he emerged around the time she was on American Idol and hangs off her like a monkey. There’s a lot of PDA there. Or maybe it’s because he should have a little more shame since he could be her dad. I’m kidding. I think it’s the hairline. Whoops, kidding about that one too. Cokas took McPhee to her original American Idol audition, which is where they fell in love. And she says their age difference has never been a problem, because Cokas is so fun. Awwww.

American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee is engaged to actor Nick Cokas, sources tell PEOPLE. McPhee, 23, recently has been showing off a ring from Cokas, 42. They have been dating for more than a year. “Katharine is bubbling over with excitement for her upcoming wedding,” a source says. “She is all smiles when she talks about the planning. It sounds like everything is going very smoothly.”

The couple met in 2005 when they performed in a Los Angeles theater production of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Their union began as a friendship, McPhee told PEOPLE last year. “He took me up to my San Francisco (Idol) audition,” McPhee said. That’s when their relationship blossomed. “We totally fell in love,” she said.

As for the 19-year age difference, McPhee says that “was never really a concern.” The two connect because “he just makes things really fun” and “we love business. We love going to meetings together and create things together.” Case in point: the two will join forces on an upcoming independent film titled The Last Caller. Katharine and Nick were caught checking out wedding cakes last May, so it seems like marriage has been on their minds for a while now. Celebitchy first reported on their relationship in June of ’06 when the couple were seen out and about in New York City. She noted that Cokas is the co-founder of the Zenith film group, which produced plays for the New York Fringe Festival. The couple seem a little mismatched to me, but they’ve been together for a while now and must have a good feeling about their relationship. Congrats to them both.

Good guy dad Mark Walhberg is said to have popped the question to the mother of his two children, model Rhea Durham. He bought her a huge 5-carat diamond ring and it sounds like he’s ready to make it official:

Wahlberg has replaced Ryan Gosling as the greiving father in The Lovely Bones, (not because Gosling was too plump as I reported earlier, but because he had creative differences with Peter Jackson and was possibly too young) and serves as executive producer for several television series and films. He will appear in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening, due out next summer, and is announced in two other films, the follow up to The Italian Job, The Brazilian Job, and as boxer “Irish” Micky Ward in The Fighter.

As Wahlberg’s career is taking off, it seems like he’s happy at home. He spoke proudly in an interview this spring about changing his son’s poopy diaper and playing horsie with his three year-old daughter. Walhberg is a devout Catholic with a rosary tattoo on his neck, and considering his faith it only seems likely that he would marry the mother of his children.

Everyone’s favorite cheating crazy person, Anne Heche, is planning to marry her Men in Trees costar just as soon as she settles matters in that pesky divorce with her porn-loving husband, Coley Laffoon. Heche and Tupper plan to make it legal as soon as they’re able, and Heche, 38, wants another child because the court hasn’t granted her enough opportunity to mess up her first one:

“Anne is very happy with James and wants to remain with him for the rest of her life,” a friend of the actress tells Star. “She calls him her soul mate.” Also on her agenda - a child with James! “Anne doesn’t get to see [son] Homer like she used to, and it kills her,” adds the chum. “She misses him terribly.” Homer, 5, lives in L.A. with dad Coley, while Anne is in Vancouver filming the ABC dramedy.

Heche was granted 50/50 custody of her five year-old son, Homer, with her estranged and soon-to-be ex husband, Coley Laffoon. It came out in their divorce that Laffoon has been the primary caretaker for Homer since he was an infant. Laffoon claims that Homer gets upset after spending time with Heche and that she is incapable of meeting his basic needs.

Maybe Heche thinks she can get it right the second time, or maybe she’s delusional enough to believe that she didn’t do anything wrong with her son and deserves another child. Either way, I hope she doesn’t reproduce again. If she does, maybe Tupper will get custody in the divorce. He’s got to be stupid enough to have a baby with her considering that he left his wife and child to hook up Heche and is supposedly about to marry her.

For some weird reason I was thinking about the movie “My Girl” a few days ago. I think the song came on the radio, and it made me remember how hard my mom cried during the movie. Just full-out hyperventilating-should-we-call-EMS crying. So imagine my pleasant surprise when I found out that the film’s star, Anna Chlumsky, 26, is engaged to Shaun So who is an Army reserve member who served in Afghanistan. The couple plan get married in March, and will incorporate elements from the both American and Chinese wedding rituals

“‘Shaun’s family is Chinese, and my family is Catholic. So we’re going to do a fusion of the two cultural traditions,’ Chlumsky said Thursday night at the Conde Nast Traveler Readers Choice Awards. ‘There will be Lai See … [money given in red envelopes]. That’s what the children get during Chinese New Year. And you’ll have a big feast. Both of our fathers are chefs, so food is number one.’

Chlumsky’s father is a culinary instructor in Chicago at Kendall College, while So’s dad owns a Chinese restaurant called China Town in Topsham, Maine. As for the location, it’s ‘my church and then a Chinese restaurant,’ she says. ‘Flushing [N.Y.] is the place to go for good Chinese. I picked one dress, but you’re supposed to wear a Chinese dress as well.’

“While the couple said that they will skip the traditional Chinese tradition of ‘kidnapping’ the bride, they would like to include a tea ceremony. ‘You pour tea for members of both of your families,’ said Chlumsky, ‘and that’s a consolidation of the family.’”
