Kate Moss shows off her vintage 1920s engagement ring

fp_6685166_ang_moss_kate_04_09

There have been engagement rumors swirling around Kate Moss for years, and over the past year, they were kicked into overdrive. It seems Kate is very “settled down” with Jamie Hince, and the couple is finally ready to make it official. It’s for real this time – unlike the engagement report last January, or the report of a cracked-out wedding last October. This time Kate has a ring! Here are the best shots of it I could get:

closeup

fp_6685162_ang_moss_kate_00_09

Looks like there’s another celebrated British Kate getting hitched this year.

Kate Moss and rocker Jamie Hince are engaged, reports Britian’s Sun, which says the guitarist from The Kills popped the question in bed Tuesday night, surprising the supermodel with a vintage 1920s engagement ring.

The paper also reports that the pair plans to wed on July 2 with Lila, Moss’s 8-year-old daughter with ex Jefferson Hack, to serve as bridesmaid.

Moss, 37, and Hince, 40, called friends and family on Wednesday to break the news and later celebrated in London with a romantic candlelight dinner.

Mutual friend (and Jude Law’s ex) Sadie Frost originally introduced the couple backstage at a Kills concerts in September 2007.

[From People]

Well, I’m glad one of Britain’s most famous bachelorettes is finally engaged. I don’t know much about Jamie Hince, but he seems to have good taste in jewelry, and he’s a step up from Pete Doherty in any case. Congratulations to the happy couple!

By the way, these photos are of Kate in Paris today, wearing her new engagement ring. I really like that she was pretty much showing off her ring to the awaiting paparazzi, rather than trying to keep it “hidden”. It says to me that Kate is happy and unconcerned with trying to use this engagement to sell herself or her “story” to a magazine.

Reese Witherspoon’s boyfriend Jim Toth insists on spoiling her

fp_6250907_witherspoontoth_church_fp6_07_19

Reese Witherspoon seems to be a down-to-earth non-diva, like she’d browse the bargain rack at The Gap just as easily as she’d wear couture. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have expensive tastes, as her new fiance Jim Toth is finding out. Fortunately, Jim apparently doesn’t mind and makes enough money as an agent (for Robert Downey Jr. and Tobey Maguire, amongst others) to treat Reese in the manner she likes.

Jim Toth’s dream came true when his girlfriend of less than a year, Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon, accepted his Christmas proposal. And he spares no expense in treating her as an A-lister should be treated. “Jim won’t let Reese pay for anything,” a friend of the Hollywood agent tells In Touch.

In a town where extravagant rings are the norm, Jim insisted on the best [engagement ring] money could buy for Reese. “He was drawn to the rarity of the stone,” says jeweler William Goldberg, who custom-designed the spectacular 4-carat sparkler.

While half a million may seem like small change to Reese, 34, who raked in $32 million in 2010 according to Forbes, the ring is an expression of the highly dedicated Creative Artists Agency employee’s love for Reese.

…Now that he’s marrying one of Hollywood’s highest earners, Jim wants to provide her with the things he feels she deserves. “Reese is one of those ladies you need to spoil,” explains the friend, although a rep for Reese denies the story. “She is not materialistic, but she is accustomed to the guy paying for things — she’s Southern and traditional that way.”

And chivalrous Jim is more than happy to oblige. “He opens doors for her, and he holds her hand,” notes the friend. “Jim thinks Reese is so amazing and believes she deserves the world. He knows she is a great woman and mom, so he tries to show her that in every way possible.”

[In Touch Weekly, print edition, February 7, 2011]

Although they say Reese’s rep denies it, this story is very sweet, making me think the rep isn’t entirely unhappy about it.

In Touch estimates that Jim spent $450,000 on Reese’s engagement ring. It’s a rare Ashoka cut-diamond — “only 10 percent of gems can be cut in the unique shape.”

He also reportedly spends $26,000 for front row Lakers seats; $15,000 on Reese’s favorite restaurants like Giorgio Baldi, Shutters and Red O; plus, he drives a leased $200,000 Mercedes-Benz.

These two seem like a good couple. Actresses usually have better luck with men who work in the industry but who aren’t actors, like Julia Roberts and her cinematographer husband. There’s less competition for the spotlight, I think, and there aren’t as many ego clashes. Hopefully, the money won’t run out!

Jim Parsons’ boyfriend called off their wedding because Jim doesn’t want kids

wenn3171133

Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory is having a great run at awards ceremonies. He won the Emmy and he’s fresh off a win at the Golden Globes. Life is a bit bumpier in his private life. According to National Enquirer, Jim’s fiancé Todd Spiewak called off their wedding because Jim doesn’t want kids.

The wedding is off for Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons!

The actor’s fiance, Todd Spiewak, put the brakes on their marriage plans after the couple disagreed on whether to adopt children.

“Jim and Todd have been together for quite a while, but never really talked kids. Todd always assumed that Jim wanted to have a family,” stated a friend of the couple.

“Jim recently made a joke about how he couldn’t handle being around children, and when Todd asked him about having kids together, Jim said ‘no way.’ Todd was heartbroken. They both love each other very much and are still living together, but their relationship is shaken up right now.”

…Jim, 37, proposed to 33-year-old Todd, an art director, and the two had been planning a Christmas wedding in Massachusetts, where gay marriage is legal. Those plans unraveled before the holidays when the men began serious discussions about starting a family.

However, in recent weeks Jim has started to reconsider his “no-kids” policy, says the friend.

“Jim loves Todd deeply and can’t imagine life without him, so he’s seriously rethinking his view on children. For now, everything is on hold.”

[National Enquirer, print edition, February 7, 2011]

Having or not having kids is a big deal in a relationship. With Neil Patrick Harris and Elton John both having children through surrogate mothers, Jim may lessen his view on not having kids. But it’s definitely something he and Todd should decide before getting married.

Don’t expect to see Jim and Todd at this Sunday’s SAG Awards. The Big Bang Theory was shut out of any nominations.

The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.

Note by Kaiser: In the photos below, I’m pretty sure that Jim’s boyfriend is the dude walking behind him!

US Weekly: Kat Von D ‘modeled’ for Jesse, hung around when he was married

wenn5595483
I had the chance to read US Weekly’s cover story on Sandra Bullock’s reaction to the Jesse James Kat Von D mess, and it’s epic. This is the same outlet that breathlessly carried the intimate details of Sandra publicist-arranged post breakup trip to the Caribbean last October. I think it’s safe to assume that the version in this week’s US was at least reviewed by her publicist, and that Sandra suspects that James cheated on her with Kat while they were married. That’s never stated outright in the article, but is heavily implied and would absolutely be James’ M.O. Not only did Kat “model” for James’ magazine in 2007 (He was married to Sandra from 2005-2010), James openly admitted to Sandra that he had a crush on Kat. (Kat was also married at the time, but she separated from her then-husband in August of ’07, and he’s stated that she cheated on him.) To add insult to repeated injury, James never told Sandra that he was engaged to Kat, and Sandra found out through the press like everyone else. US’ version of events is in contrast to earlier stories that claim that James gave her a heads up.

Note that the bolded headers below are from me, except for the last one “Sandra & Ryan: Cooling Down.” The word “cheating” isn’t used in the article, but it’s obvious that’s what they’re talking about.

katvond_garage

How Sandra found out about the engagement
According to a source, Bullock wasn’t even given a heads-up by James. Amazingly, she got the news the same way everybody else did…

“Jesse’s statement [on 2010 being the best year of his life] is just so malicious,” says a James ex-worker, noting that he had entered sex rehab last April in hopes of a second chance with Bullock. “He was pleading with her to take him back!”

On Jesse and Kat probably cheating in 2007
“Jesse has been obsessed with Kat for years,” says a Bullock source. “It was an open secret, even to Sandra.” In 2007, the then-Miami Ink star… was chosen as the Garage Gal of the year for Garage magazine, which James owned….

To celebrate, James threw Von D a party in Austin, which Bullock and Von D’s then-husband, Oliver Peck, attended…

Soon, Von D started hanging around the bike shop. James shortly named her a spokeswoman for the WCC clothing line and she posed for ads, and ex-employees say she was a regular visitor….

Jesse told Sandra that Kat was his dream woman
“Jesse always considered Kat his dream woman, and he even talked about it in front of Sandra!” says a Bullock source. “But Sandra never worried. Kat was the girl Jesse was allowed to have a jokey crush on. Sandra thought Jesse was in love with her, his wife, and never figured Jesse would do anything about Kat.

One friend speculates Von D may have been James’ “back-burner” girl during the marriage.

On how Sandra is doing
“Nothing shocks her anymore,” says a source, “but she’s still processing it. It’s messed up because it’s been nearly a year since the news of the affairs began, so it’s not like he’s continuing to try to hurt her…

“James like to rub things in people’s faces. He needs a new feather in his cap and probably feels like he’s winning now.”

[However] “Sandy is a no-BS kind of woman. She’s not caught up in his relationship with that tattooed woman.”

Sandra & Ryan – Cooling Down
After they rang in the new year together, dancing into the wee hours, Bullock and Reynolds had fans of their 2009 romantic comedy, The Proposal, hoping for an offscreen happy ending for the unlucky-in-love paid. But Bullock and Reynolds… seem to be back in “just friends” territory… “Friends would love to see them together,” a pal says of the pair. “But they really are just friends.”

[From US Weekly, print edition, February 7, 2011]

The whole article was worded so carefully it points directly to Sandra’s people, and I don’t blame them. Jesse is predictably continuing to try and hurt her, and never seems to have emotionally matured beyond puberty. People say that she’s not as innocent and classy as she’s coming across, but I would disagree. She’s handled this whole thing expertly. Now cheater Kat will be able to experience firsthand what Sandra went though, except she can’t say she wasn’t forewarned.

Doesn’t it sound like Sandra is half admitting she had a little fling with Ryan and that it didn’t go anywhere? They’re “cooling down” and are “back” to just friends, as if they were hot and heavy for a little while. Fans of romantic comedies know that this is a typical plot scenario for the middle of the film. I’m just saying.

Kate Hudson allegedly ‘secretly’ engaged to baby daddy Matt Bellamy

fp_5911512_rij_elle_women_123_126

British rag The Sun is reporting that Kate Hudson and her British boyfriend, Matt Bellamy, held a secret “engagement party” on Monday at a hotel in London with friends and family. The details are very scarce, so The Sun may be pulling this out of their asses, or just assuming that some kind of party they held (if they even had a party) was for an engagement. Still, it seems inevitable despite US Weekly’s recent report that Kate isn’t in a rush to marry Bellamy. She strikes me as the type to want to get married if she’s pregnant. There’s nothing wrong with that, if it’s the right person for you. As far as I can tell these two have been dating all of six months.

ROCK star MATT BELLAMY and Hollywood actress KATE HUDSON have got engaged in secret.
They hosted a family party at a London hotel on Monday after jetting from Los Angeles to celebrate.

Muse frontman Matt, 32, and Kate, 31, confirmed last week they were expecting a baby.

A source said: “It was an intimate party. They kept their engagement secret as they wanted to celebrate with their nearest and dearest before it became public knowledge.”

Kate’s mum, actress GOLDIE HAWN, 65, is already in the UK and presented a gong at the British Comedy Awards on Saturday night.

Recently she revealed her delight at becoming a grandmother again. Goldie said: “I’m excited – happy for them both.”

[From US Weekly]

Well if it’s true – congratulations. People like to point out that Hudson flits from man to man, but maybe she just hasn’t found the right guy since splitting with her first husband in 2007. Who am I kidding? She’ll be married a few more times in her life. She won’t rival Liz Taylor, since Liz was working on her fifth husband at Kate’s age, but she’ll on numbers three and four in less than a decade. Hope she gets a prenup with this one.

The inevitable details of Natalie Portman’s ‘conflict free’ ginormous engagement ring

wenn3162541
A few weeks ago, E!’s Answer Bitch had a very enlightening column about the way that the K-Fed fiancés of the world “afforded” massive diamond engagement rings for their much more successful famous female partners. Think Eddie Cibrian, that ex football player that Jessica Simpson drags around, and of course Natalie Portman’s ballerina that is helping her “continue this creation of creating more life.” Natalie’s ballerina K-Fed also created her honking engagement ring and People has the details. I’ll start by prefacing this story with The Answer Bitch’s explanation for how enormous celebrity engagement rings happen, and how it often involves a very public plug for the jewelry designer. An engagement ring designer named Johnny Brookheart explains:

“When boyfriends are paying we often arrange creative financing,” I am told.

“For celebrity clients I typically ask for half the value down and generously finance the rest for a long term….We keep a team of experts on retainer who can help us value and collateralize almost everything under the sun. Houses, horses, art, watches, etc. We’ll either help them secure a loan with their assets, or we may just make a trade.”

If the guy really needs help, the couple may shill for the jewelry company in exchange for a break. After all, the Brookheart people tell me, most celebrities wouldn’t be caught dead in a ring worth less than $50,000. (A more typical value for a star’s engagement ring these days: At least $100,000 to $250,000.)

“There are discounts for celebrities, and oftentimes those discounts depend on how willing the star is to assist in crediting the jeweler after the proposal,” the Brookheart people say. “It’s always a negotiation, but this is where being A-list really pays off.”

That isn’t to say the groom is powerless in all this.

“In almost every instance, the man is a significant part of making the engagement ring happen,” says fellow celebrity jeweler David Alan Wegweiser of David Alan Jewelry

[From E! Online]

With those last few sentences in mind, about “discounts for celebrities” and “crediting the jeweler,” here’s In Style’s article about the designer that Natalie’s fiance, Benjamin Millepie, employed to put together the ring. The jeweler was a fellow ballerina, so maybe she gave Ben a discount for that reason, but it seems like she struck the same deal with him that this other jeweler so clearly explained to E!

What makes Natalie Portman’s engagement ring so special isn’t just who gave it to her, but also who designed it and how it was made. Jeweler designer Jamie Wolf (inset), whose creations have also adorned Jessica Biel, Julia Roberts and Anne Hathaway, created the custom handmade ring with choreographer Benjamin Millepied, Portman’s now-fiancé. “Ben was exceptionally thoughtful and dedicated and patient to make sure we had everything right,” Wolf told InStyle, who as a former dancer for the New York City Ballet, has been friends with Millepied for over 15 years. (He even encouraged Wolf to audition as a company dancer for Black Swan, and she was cast film!) “We wanted everything about the ring to speak to things that are important to Natalie.” Therefore, in alignment with Portman’s ecofriendly and vegan ideals, the stone is an antique (round old mine cut diamond), the pave diamonds are certified as conflict-free, meaning no one was hurt or treated unfairly in the mining of the diamonds, and the platinum is recycled metal. “It was a lot of fun to work with him, he’s such a great guy and it’s such a great piece of jewelry,” Wolf said. “It speaks to my work and my taste on a personal level. I was really proud of how it turned out. It’s gorgeous.”

[From In Style via People]

So this jeweler was friends with Millepied for 15 years, but she’s also done engagement rings for other celebrities and seems to regularly lend and/or gift them jewelry. This is common practice, and celebrities get so many luxurious things for free that the rest of us have to pay for. They love to make us aspire to a lifestyle that is largely comped. I like nice things, and I’m a superficial bitch in many ways, but I think it’s outrageous to pay thousands for jewelery (even if you can afford it). Check out this designer’s jewelery at Barneys. The cheapest pair of earrings is $1,950.00.

Jennifer Love Hewitt already has three engagement ring options at Tiffany’s

wenn3171035

Always a Pear-Ass and never a bride. Such is Jennifer Love Hewitt’s lot in life. Some think that Love really, really wants to get married at some point, and that’s why she’s always perpetually engaged. Some think that Love only really likes the engagement part, and that she might have some underlying issues with the marriage part. I don’t know… I don’t really think Love is pathetic or desperate (in love, but obviously her career is another story), I just think she’s got crappy taste in men and she’s a honest-to-goodness girly-girl romantic who wants every relationship to be straight out of a Harlequin romance novel. I would love to see Love get more pragmatic about relationships, and I would like to see her simply be alone for a while. I think “not dating” for a year would be great for her issues. But that’s not going to happen. Love has a new boyfriend (Alex Beh) and she’s already pressuring him for the ring. I think they’ve only been dating, like, four months or so.

Unlike a slew of Hollywood stars, Jennifer Love Hewitt isn’t engaged yet — but she’s got her Tiffany engagement ring all picked out. Three of them, in fact.

“I actually have three because I feel like I’m doing the guy a favor,” Hewitt, 31, explains during a Tuesday appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“Women are very confusing. We never know what we want and we’re not very good at nailing that down for them. I feel like I don’t want to be upset if he picks a bad ring” explains the Lost Valentine star, who’s been dating Alex Beh for about 7 months.

Hewitt has never been married before — but broke off her engagement to actor Ross McCall in early 2008.

But she’s all set should Beh or another suitor brings up matrimony. “If it gets to that conversation. If marriage comes up, I’m like, “You know what’s so weird. There is this store [Tiffany's] and there are three rings in it… And if you chose one of these three, I’m going to be really excited. And if you go off on your own, we can have an awful, awkward moment. So why would you want to do that?”

Hewitt gushed about her new guy Beh, who had a great time as her date at the Golden Globes. “It was exciting! He’s never been to anything like that. ”

[From Us Weekly]

Doesn’t it ever get old, Love? Why all the pressure to get engaged? Why all the emotional vajazzling? Why all the emphasis on the sparkle and never on the emotional maturity for commitment and a marriage of equals?

But yeah, Jennifer Love Hewitt gives women a bad name. When dudes say things like “Bitches are crazy,” they’re talking about bitches like Love. I don’t know of any man who would stick around after being told that their girlfriend had already picked out three engagement rings at Tiffany’s. Bitch is crazy.

Rachel McAdams & Michael Sheen: Is an engagement imminent?

toronto_celebs_15_wenn3000297

Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen have been dating ever since last year’s Toronto Film Festival. Allegedly, or whatever, although there are many eyewitnesses who claim they saw them meet and spark immediately, and they’ve been all over each other ever since. The low-key couple has been spotted mostly in Canada, but we did get some great photos of Michael dropping Rachel off at the airport, including a cute airport makeout session. So… about five months. That’s how long they’ve been dating, by most accounts. Is it too soon to start with the engagement rumors?

From Wedding Crashers to wedding belle? Five months into the romance between Rachel McAdams, 32, and Michael Sheen, 41, “they are heading towards a possible engagement,” a source says of the pair. “He’s head over heels – it’s the real thing. There is no doubt they are made for one another.”

[From Us Weekly, print edition]

I agree that there is something about this coupling that gives me the warm-fuzzies (and I’m not that kind of person at all)… they just seem to fit together. I enjoy the idea of them together. So it wouldn’t surprise me if they were already talking about getting more serious, although Rachel doesn’t strike me as the crazy, lovesick type. She seems like a planner, a list-maker, not the kind of girl who would run off with a dude she’s been dating for five months. But maybe they just “know”. Stranger things have happened!

Jesse James announces engagement to Kat Von D: “I fell in love with my best friend”

wenn5595437

Kat Von D and Jesse James are engaged. For real this time – it’s in People Magazine. Jesse actually spoke to People, like he was deigning to confirm something very big and exclusive, like he’s an A-list celebrity. Bitch, get thee to In Touch Weekly. Sorry, anyway… Kat and Jesse are going to get hitched. Good. They deserve each other. She’s a psycho and he’s a womanizing neo-Nazi bastard.

Start your engines. Motorcycle king Jesse James and tattoo artist Kat Von D are going to be married.

“You know sometimes the public and press gets it wrong. This is one of those times. 2010 was actually the best year of my life because I fell in love with my best friend. An amazing woman who stood behind me when the world turned their backs,” James tells PEOPLE exclusively. “I have never met anyone so kind and loving and committed to making the world a better place every day. My love for her is beyond description. So honored that she said ‘yes.’ Growing old with her is going to be a f—-n’ blast!”

The pair have been dating since last summer, following the collapse of James’s marriage to Oscar winner Sandra Bullock. Their divorce was finalized last June.

“There is no one else for me. He’s the one,” The LA Ink star tells PEOPLE.

Asked if she will move from Los Angeles to Austin, Texas, to be with her fiancé, Von D replied, “If only it were that easy. Having two places we call home will be good for now. In the end, home is where the heart is, and my heart’s with him.”

James, 41, and Von D, 28, have been engaged in Twitter PDA in recent weeks. On Jan. 13, James Tweeted: “They say True love will always shine through. The only reason I started Twitter again? so I could publicly profess my love for @thekatvond.”

She responded: “Thank you always supporting me and believing in everything I do. But most of all, thanks for being my best friend.”

[From People]

Well… they sound happy. Good for them. Do you think she’s pregnant? I’m surprised, quite honestly, that a baby announcement didn’t come before an engagement announcement.

Also… my theory: Jesse is just one of those men who always needs to be with a girl, or multiple girls. He can’t be alone. Ugh. He just goes from wife to wife to mistress to girlfriend to wife. You’ve got to wonder… why is he so afraid of being alone for two seconds?

Holly Madison: Hef could do better than Crystal, she’s using him

Holly Madison
Life & Style has a new interview with Holly Madison in which she doesn’t hold back with her thoughts about her ex Hugh Hefner’s engagement to 24 year-old Crystal Harris. Holly has previously shown some restraint when asked to comment on her octogenarian ex boyfriend’s engagement, saying in part that she was “very surprised” and “have a lot of different feelings on it.” Now Holly is opening up about her feelings and she’s clearly angry that she didn’t score an engagement from Hef after riding his Viagra gravy train for seven years. In September, 2008, back when Holly and Hef were still together, Hef said that he loved Holly, but added that “she wants very much to get married and have children. That isn’t very much in the cards for me.” Holly was pushing for a proposal their whole relationship, and spoke openly about her frustration that Hef had yet to propose. So it definitely comes as a surprise to her that Hef put a ring on the next, younger one to come along:

Holly Madison, shocked to find out about her ex-boyfriend Hue Hefner’s marriage proposal to Crystal Harris over Christmas, is now breaking her silence in the new issue of Life & Style—on newsstands now—warning Hef to reconsider.

“I’d like to see Hef settle down,” Holly told Life & Style during the exclusive interview on Jan. 6. “I just want it to be with the right person, and I feel like he’s making a hasty decision. I’m not sure Crystal is the best thing for him.”

While Crystal, 24, moved into the Playboy Mansion only in January 2009, Holly was Hef’s right hand for six years until the two split in October 2008. “Crystal hasn’t been around very long — she’s a mysterious character,” says Holly. “No one knows much about her. Plus, she’s very young, probably too young to settle down. I’ve seen a lot of girls try to date Hef, and some have ulterior motives. I don’t think it would be a bad idea for him to get to know her a little better. I think it’s possible Crystal could break Hef’s heart. They could end up divorcing, and she could take half his money.”

So she arranged a face-to-face with the duo on Jan. 5 to witness the duo’s supposed joy for herself. “I wanted to check up in person,” Holly says about of the emotional encounter, which was filmed for season two of her E! reality series, Holly’s World (premiering on Jan. 23). “I told them that I wish them the best and that Crystal had better not do him wrong or else I’ll kick her butt. It was definitely awkward.”

In the end, Holly just hopes Hef has indeed found his perfect match. “I’m not jealous that he’d marry someone else. I just don’t want it to be a girl who’s using him to start her career,” she tells Life & Style. “Basically, I think he could do better than Crystal.”

Speaking via her manager, Michael Blakey, Crystal told Life & Style, “I’ve never been happier in my life. I’m so excited to be marrying Hef.”

[From Life & Style]

So Holly’s “not jealous” that Crystal scored an engagement from Hef after less than two years when she worked on him for seven with no success. She just thinks that Crystal has other motives and is using him. What were Holly’s motives then? Did she love Hef for his personality? I liked Holly on The Girls Next Door and I think she did love Hef and was better suited for him, given what little I know about Crystal, but she’s got some sour grapes going on. It’s not like Hef was going to take up with some woman half his age with her own career and ambitions. He’s a vehicle for these women and that’s why he’s able to score them so young. Holly may have loved Hef but she also loved what he could do for her.

Hefner recently re-purchased the majority share of Playboy, which is thought to indicate that he’s ready to leave the empire to his sons. Hopefully he’ll get an iron clad prenup with Crystal – if he ever does marry her.

Photo credit: PRPhotos. Check out Holly’s shoes. She looks ridiculous.
