Ethan Hawke and pregnant girlfriend apply for marriage license

Ethan Hawke and his girlfriend, Ryan Shawhughes, managed to keep their relationship under the radar for a long time. But since the news broke that Ryan, who was once the nanny for Ethan and ex wife Uma Therman’s kids, is pregnant with Ethan’s child, their days of privacy are pretty much over. Sources are saying that the couple applied for a marriage license in New York this week, which means that they will most likely be tying the knot within the next month.

Ethan Hawke and his fiancée, Ryan Shawhughes, are getting ready to walk down the aisle. The star and the “very pregnant” former nanny of his children with Uma Thurman are expecting their first bundle together, and spies at the Municipal Building on Centre Street yesterday morning saw the couple applying for their marriage license. “They looked really sweet,” said the onlooker. Hawke’s rep had no comment.

No word on a date or location for the wedding, but congrats to the couple. Ethan and Uma were spotted walking and talking together recently, so it looks like there are no hard feelings there. Ethan has said in the past that it was difficult being married to a fellow actor, so maybe this time around, it will last. Good luck, kids!

Ethan Hawke and Ryan Shawhughes are shown on 2/10/08 walking their dog, thanks to Splash.

Ethan Hawke sings song about his “fat beast” of an ex wife, Uma Thurman

Ethan Hawke was one of the musicians to take the stage entertaining theater guests between performances of the “24 Hour Plays,” which are six one act plays performed back to back that were written, rehearsed and set up entirely in just 24 hours. A journalist from NY Magazine was there, and she noted that the music act that was on before Ethan wasn’t so good, but that once the scruffy ex-husband of Uma Thurman came on stage the crowd was mesmerized – by his lyrics:

Out of nowhere, actor Ethan Hawke hopped up onstage, strapped on an acoustic guitar and bared his soul to the audience. “Someone I know wrote this song while shooting a movie in Paris during his divorce,” he said. We, along with the rest of the audience, gasped. He was totally talking about himself, and more important, Uma Thurman…

He proceeded to sing a ditty that included lyrics about “not caring if [he] ever saw New York again,” “the lawyers,” and — most telling — “my wife.” Uma! “My wife hates me,” he sang, adding something about how she would call him a prick, how he longed to send for his children, tralalala singing stuff. We were intoxicated, both with beverages and with memories of Dead Poets Society. And then! “My wife is a big fat beast,” he sang. We gasped, along with the rest of the audience. He called Uma fat! In public! Sheepishly, Hawke broke his musicianly stride: “Yeah, I was very upset at the time.” And still is, we suspect.

[From NY Magazine]

Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman broke up in 2003 and were divorced in 2004. They have two children, a daughter, Maya, 9, and a son, Levon, 6.

Although Ethan’s cheating is thought to have ended their relationship, Uma took the high road when describing what happened, and told Oprah that “Blaming anybody doesn’t make you feel better and when you have two children, I think, that’s such a priority to protect them and to never lose sight of the fact that, even if you’re in a fight or even if things are going badly, it’s in their best interests that everybody comes out OK, so there’s no winning.” [from Softpedia]

Ethan kept talking about their relationship though, calling it “unfair” that Uma was so much more successful than him. Although he didn’t specifically name her, it’s obvious who he’s talking about.

“It’s unfair when one person’s career is taking off and the other is really suffering,” he says. “What happens — it’s not that they’re jealous of each other; it’s that the person you share your life with isn’t in the mood to support. You want to have a pity party for yourself, but they’re off to the Golden Globes and you don’t want to go because everyone is going to think you are jealous.”

Now Ethan, 37, is dating his family’s former nanny, 27, and his rep has confirmed that she’s pregnant with his baby. Ethan and the nanny supposedly didn’t have anything going on when she was employed by his family and are said to have hooked up afterwards. I wonder how she feels about the fact that he’s singing songs about his ex wife.

Ethan and Uma were photographed together outside their children’s school on March 13, presumably going to a parent teacher conference. The 24 Hour plays were on March 17, so I guess we can assume that Ethan and Uma didn’t entirely get along during that rare get together.

Ethan Hawke Impregnates Former Nanny

ethanheader.jpg
Ethan Hawke is about to become a father for the third time. The “Training Day” star has two children with ex-wife Uma Thurman, and he is expecting a third with Ryan Shawhughes, 27, whom he met when she worked as a nanny for his family back when he was with Uma. It is unclear whether the two are living together or engaged at this point, but Ethan’s camp says the actor is pleased at the news of his impending fatherhood:

“I can confirm and they are thrilled,” says Hawke’s rep Mara Buxbaum. “No further details will be made available.”

[From People]

In the fallout after Uma and Ethan’s split, there were rumors that Hawke was unfaithful, but neither spoke about it publicly. Ethan only had this to say on the couple’s split in a 2006 interview:

“To be honest, [fame] was an undue pressure on my marriage. I didn’t like being famous when I was single, and what it did to my celebrity status to be married to another famous person was a huge pressure — one I didn’t enjoy. And it had nothing to do with her. Nothing to do with her,” Hawke says.

[From Showbuzz]

Uma has been linked to a handful of rich suitors since then, but Ethan’s love life has remained very private. In fact, there is only one photo of Ethan and Ryan together, and it was taken in December 2007 as they dined in a restaurant in Manhattan. Ryan bears more than a passing resemblance to Uma. The NY Daily News’ Gatecrasher column says keeping the relationship secret for so long was a ploy to protect Ethan’s image.

ethanhawke.jpg“They seem to be trying to rewrite history by saying they waited a whole year, so they could look innocent when word that they were together finally got out,” an “insider” tells the mag.

“He [Ethan] was terrified, because he knew if Uma found out he was with their nanny, she’d blow up and the divorce would get nasty when it had been going relatively well.”

[From Gatecrasher]

While I don’t agree with cheating on a spouse—especially with a nanny—it seems as though both Ethan and Uma have moved on with their lives and manage to co-parent their kids quite nicely these days. They even schedule movie shoots around their children’s needs, and try to accommodate each other’s careers. My guess is that Uma’s fans and sympathizers will be a lot more offended and upset by this news than she will. Uma seems to be doing quite well without Ethan.

Marisa Tomei Has Sticky Fingers

top-jtm-030328.jpg

I loved her in “My Cousin Vinnie.” Marisa Tomei is one of my favorite underrated celebs. When you have an Oscar at home next to your bed stand you can pretty much do as you please. In effort of not letting the man get her down, she once stole a band aid.

“She tells the New York Daily News, “I have stolen recently… Band-Aids! There were five Band-Aids in the pack, and I got a sticker shock at the price, so I just grabbed one, which was all I needed.”

[New York Daily News Via Starpulse]

She defended her actions as preparation for her latest role as a thief in “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead.” Marisa bravely took on the movie in which she has a topless scene. Her co-stars include Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke. The plot involves two brothers who decide to rob their parents’ jewelry store. They come to the conclusion that they get the loot and their parents will get insurance money and everyone wins. She has already asked her family toskip seeing the film due to her sex scenes in her role as the wife of Hoffman’s character and mistress of Hawke’s.

“I’m grown up now, so I guess it’ll really hit home. I spoke to mom about it the other day and I said, ‘I don’t know if you really want to come to this or if you want to see it.’ I’d rather you didn’t. ‘She said, ‘We heard already, we know about it’. ‘Having the Sidney factor balances it out. I felt even more comfortable than I did just acting fully clothed. I seem to tap into these kinds of women, the ones you call ‘slut’.”

Ethan Hawke On Being A Celebrity Couple

ethanhawke.jpg
Ethan Hawke used to be one of the Hollywood Hot Guys, then he sort of drifted off the radar. Replaced by Matt Damon maybe? Anyway, he used to be married to Uma Thurman, but they got divorced in 2004. Here’s what he has to say about being in a celebrity couple.

“It’s unfair when one person’s career is taking off and the other is really suffering,” the 36-year-old actor tells AMC’s “Shootout” in an interview slated to air Sunday.

“What happens – it’s not that they’re jealous of each other; it’s that the person you share your life with isn’t in the mood to support,” Hawke says. “You want to have a pity party for yourself, but they’re off to the Golden Globes and you don’t want to go because everyone is going to think you are jealous.”

Forbes

Everyone is going to think you’re jealous? You were jealous, staying at home and having a pity party indeed! Ethan obviously doesn’t realise that regular couples have the same issue, their careers don’t follow the same course just because they’re married.

Last year Uma Thurman had this to say about her marriage:

“I think it’s fair to say that I haven’t said one mean thing, and I’m not going to start now. It’s terrible for my family.”

People

I wonder if Ethan Hawke, who was rumoured at the end of their marriage to have been unfaithful, has opened the floodgates for some mean comments?

Ethan Hawke no longer hawt

I saw “Before Sunset” on cable a few months ago, and emo Ethan Hawke melted my heart. He was so cute as he blathered on about politics while contemplating leaving his wife and child for a hot little Frenchwoman who stood him up years ago, haunting him ever since. What a difference two years makes.

Leaving Uma didn’t do wonders for his career or looks. Maybe a better hairstyle, a shave and some fashion can restore him back to a shadow of his 2004 self.

Ethan says that he’s grateful that things in his life have slowed down since his split with Uma, but seems to be all too aware of what he’s missing:

Actor ETHAN HAWKE is pleased he is no longer married to an A-list star, because during his relationship with UMA THURMAN he was constantly pursued by the paparazzi. Hawke split from KILL BILL beauty Thurman in July 2004 after six years of marriage. He says, “One of the nice things about no longer being married to a movie star is that it quietens down a lot. “I never meant to complain about the photographers – if the paparazzi are bothering you, it probably means you are having a wonderful life.

Ethan is shown on September 2 at the Venice Film Festival, where he is promoting his film “The Hottest State” based on his novel of the same name. He directs and has a supporting role in the film, a drama about a struggling young actor who is jilted in love. He directed “Chelsea Walls” in 2001, to mixed reviews. Some called it pretentious, self-indulgent and overly ambitious, while other critics lauded its character development and intelligence. I didn’t see it, but I love Linklater’s films and bet “The Hottest State” will be an enjoyable thought-provoking film as long as Hawke keeps it from being too depressing.

Pictures from Hollywoods Best.
