I don’t judge Eva Longoria for filing for divorce – which Us Weekly claims she just did. I don’t judge her for leaving her allegedly philandering husband. But I will judge her for yesterday’s PR hissy fit in which her poor publicist was sent out on her behalf and used every threat possible to get TMZ, E! News, and People to print stories denials and stories about how Eva and Tony were not getting a divorce. Instead of coming across as a wronged woman in the middle of the media train wreck, Eva chose to pull rank and lie and scheme and bitch and moan (through her rep) for 24 hours. It says to me that Eva was more concerned with the public relations of the split than the actual split:

The two met in November 2004.

They had a brief rough patch that year — “We were going through growing pains,” she explained to Cosmopolitan — but they worked it out.

He popped the question in 2006. “It was more than I’d imagined,” she told Cosmo of his proposal. “I was shocked, too. It was like two in the morning. He got down on one knee. He was so nervous, which is what I find so surprising and sweet. I said, ‘Honey, you know how much I want to marry you!’”

They famously wed in a $1.5 million wedding at a 17th century castle in Paris in July 2007 — in front of her Desperate Housewives co-stars, including Teri Hatcher and Felicity Huffman.

Baby rumors soon followed.

“Tony and I want … as many as we can have. Three, four, five,” she said in 2008. “We think about adopting too.”

The same year, the 5-foot-2 star dodged pregnancy rumors when she packed on 7 lbs. for Housewives (“I’m just fat,” she quipped).

The two appeared to be in fine shape this past summer as they celebrated his birthday and their third wedding anniversary.

“We’re thinking about it. Pretty soon,” he told Us in June when asked about starting a family. “She’s got one more year with Desperate Housewives, so we’ll see what happens.”

With their time apart, he told Us, “Skype helps a lot. As long as you both make an effort, it works … [but I miss] not being able to kiss her every day!”

Once again, I’m not judging her for any of the marriage stuff, just the media stuff. But I’ve wondered for a while why Eva and Tony didn’t have any babies. Do you think their marriage was always on rocky footing? Was the time never right? Did Eva or Tony just keep repeating that now wasn’t the right time for their career? Did Eva always know that the marriage was going to be a disaster and she didn’t want to bring any kids into it? Hm…

Also – TMZ is confirming that Eva has filed, and they say she’s also requesting spousal support. I doubt it’s a “Bitch, are you poor?” move, and more of “That son of a bitch cheated on me and I’m going to make him pay” move. Oh, and they had a prenup! Good for them.

UPDATE: People Magazine reports that Tony was allegedly screwing around with the wife of one of his teammates. This is according to Eva, who is telling all to her BFF Mario Lopez. Eva says she’s not going to reveal the name of the baller or the wife, but that Tony cheated with the woman earlier in their marriage, and she only recently found out that they were still in contact – hundreds of texts in a month, it seems. Meanwhile, Eva gave an exclusive statement to Us Weekly, saying: “It is with great sadness that after 7 years together, Tony and I have decided to divorce. We love each other deeply and pray for each other’s happiness.”

UPDATE: Oh, Mario Lopez/Eva is saying that Tony screwed around with another woman too. So that makes it “two” and it’s only been 24 hours.

What in the world is going on with Eva Longoria? Goodness. First it was TMZ and E! News, then it was People Magazine, and now her marriage/divorce drama has taken the cover of Us Weekly. Us Weekly’s sources tell them that Eva and Tony’s marriage is in serious trouble after she caught him exchanging “personal texts” with a “mutual female friend” for nearly a year. They also claim that Eva is “heartbroken” and that she wants to end the marriage and Tony is the one who wants to stick it out. This goes against TMZ’s story that Tony was the one to file for divorce in Texas. I’d also like to note something peculiar – Eva’s rep went around to every major media outlet yesterday and made them print retractions and denials about an impending divorce, and if the divorce is happening, Eva just lost a lot of media support for pulling what little rank she had over a series of lies.

Surprisingly, this Us Weekly story sounds like the one sanctified by Eva’s people, and maybe all of the other stuff was Tony not following her script, as Lainey theorized yesterday. I don’t want to punch Eva when she’s down, so I’m not even going to ask what you think the chances are of Eva and Tony pulling through. But I will say this – at the very least, Eva is getting headlines, right? That must make her happy.

Late Tuesday, some sketchiness started happening. E! News and TMZ both began climbing up Eva Longoria and Tony Parker’s asses. E! News’s Marc Malkin claimed that Eva had withdrawn from one of her completely boring and incessant photo-ops, this time at a CNN event, and Malkin laid on the insinuation about Eva and Tony’s relationship troubled. Then TMZ ran a story about Tony filing for divorce – in Texas. Their sources were two clerks at the Bexar County Courthouse, who claimed that the divorce petition was filed and sealed by a judge. However – TMZ then retracted their story, and E! News ran an update – apparently, NOTHING is happening between Eva and Tony, divorce-wise. However, the whole thing does feel rather sketchy, doesn’t it? LaineyGossip thinks so:

TMZ broke the story earlier today that Tony Parker filed for divorce from Eva Longoria. But her publicist is telling CNN and etalk that this is false. Then I went to refresh TMZ’s page and it was replaced by this article. They say they were originally told by two clerks at a courthouse in Texas that Tony filed and that the documents were sealed by a judge. But now another clerk has come forward to shoot down the two original ones, insisting that no papers were processed, that Tony Parker did not initiative divorce proceedings. In combination with Eva’s rep’s insistence that nothing happened, TMZ has no choice but to retract the story.

So…is this simply a case of a bad source? Or is something else afoot?

TMZ rarely messes up this spectacularly. I mean, sure, everyone gets a sh-tty tip now and again but…

Two hours before TMZ’s original story broke, E! reported that there was some smutty tingling going on in the marriage. Eva was apparently about to pull out of an event. Her people weren’t talking. Some people were whispering. Her team was being particularly cagey. This was followed by the divorce alarm and quick cancellation. Do you buy it? That everything is ok?

It feels strange how this all unfolded. Not sitting well at all. Like it was a communication breakdown. Like one side wasn’t following the other’s orders. Like they were still nailing down a press plan and someone didn’t get the update. Will keep you posted but I wouldn’t brush it off just yet.

Eva’s rep is the one doing all of the damage control – her rep is the one forcing retractions, and pushing the “everything’s fine” story. Now, I don’t even know if Tony has a “rep” – I would guess that he has a manager and a lawyer, at the very least. So why is Team Tony quiet? I agree with Lainey, there is something fishy.

Of course, I have another theory too – maybe they’re totally fine and they just wanted to create a bit of drama so people would pay attention to them, because at this point, Eva can’t pay blogs to put photos of her up. She’s like Rachel Bilson – there are new photos of her every day at our photo agencies, and I and everybody else just skips over that sh-t, because… who cares about Eva Longoria (or Bilson) at this point? What is it, 2004? Could this all just be a famewhore move?

Eva Longoria shot down a report that Tony Parker filed for divorce in Texas, but that doesn’t appear to be the end of the marriage drama. A source tells PEOPLE that the Desperate Housewives star plans to file divorce papers of her own as early as Wednesday.

Longoria was “totally and completely blindsided” by reports appearing this week of infidelity by her NBA star husband, the source says.

Honestly, seeing photos of Victoria Beckham looking bright orange is nothing new. She often is some unfortunate shade of orange, although she was trying to tone it down the last few months in an attempt to get that Vogue cover, which never happens. Or maybe she just realized the “bright orange, fake-boobed bobblehead” look isn’t as popular in America. Who knows? Anyway, Posh went back to spray tan for last night’s hostessing duties. The event was something for LG phones, etc. Posh was cohosting with Eva Longoria – who was also bright orange. Now, as much as think Eva is a boring poseur, she usually doesn’t have this kind of tragic, orange appearance on red carpets. I wonder if she went with Posh for a spray tans and some girl talk? Oh, and Eva’s dress sucks too.

Speaking of things that suck, Jessica Simpson and Ashlee Simpson were at the event.

Call me crazy, but I think Jess is attempting to wear a Victoria Beckham dress. I guess she doesn’t know that Posh only makes clothes for size zeros. She should have figured it out when she was packing herself into this dress like a stuffed sausage, though. And look at how the top half of her dress is blocked – it’s like her boobs are stuffed into a frame and mounted on wall (probably not the strangest place her boobs have been mounted). I don’t get it, Jess. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what kinds of styles would look good on her body, yet she constantly wears sh-t. Oh, Ashlee looks emaciated too. Whatever.

This just a post about the fashion porn at Cannes. The photos just came in from the big opening night premiere of Robin Hood, and evidently, every woman (save Dame Helen Mirren) thought the Cannes Film Festival was a cotillion. Big skirts. Big, big, massive skirts. And pageant hair. Ugh. Let’s start with the only one who looked effortless and chic, my Dame Helen. I would wear this dress in a heartbeat. Except that on me (or anyone else) it would look like a plain black dress (although there’s some detailing on the left neckline and shoulder). Look at Helen’s body in this thing. She’s crazy sexy.

Now, on to the cotillion. I have to give it to Cate Blanchett – if you’re going to do a big f-cking dress, why not do it this way? With a big f-cking eagle/hawk of doom imprinted on your couture. Do you think Cate saw this and was like “Fabulous. The bird of prey, please.” I’m thinking it’s Gaultier, but I could totally be wrong. It’s McQueen. I was wrong.

Next: Eva Longoria. WTF? I didn’t realize the Cannes red carpet was her wedding march. And just FYI to Eva: Charlize and Penelope can make the big tiered/ruffled skirts work, but you can’t. Plus, they were making it work three years ago. Not now.

Kate Beckinsale (who is on the Cannes jury) is trying to do the same Charlize/Penelope thing, and her failure is epic. Plus, the bodice goes on too far, so it makes it seem (to my allergy-drug-addled mind) like Kate has a big, lavender-haired vadge. That veers to the right. It’s so bad I almost missed my boyfriend Benecio del Toro in the corner of the photo. Mmm…he could check out my big lavender vadge. What?

Russell’s wife (I forget her name, Mrs. McAngryPants, whatever) looks over it. She’s all “I wish I was drunk right now.” Russell’s all “I am drunk right now.”

Eva Longoria hasn’t been getting a lot of attention lately. Have you missed her? Yeah, I thought so. I have to give her some credit – she was getting totally overexposed, to the point where people were getting utterly bored with her, and she thoughtfully took a step back. She didn’t show up to every event, she didn’t put on another ball gown just for the opening of an envelope. I can’t even remember the last event I saw her and her overdressing habit. Maybe I just blocked her out of my mind.

Anyway, it seems Eva had an public relations itch she needed to scratch, and now we’re being informed about some details of Eva’s sex life that I wish I could now erase from my mind. Eva participated in a “Best Ever Sex” survey specifically for “A-list celebs” according to The Sun. In the survey, Eva claims she likes to be tied up during sex. Now, it’s not that a little light bondage is gross to me (it isn’t), but I’m just a little creeped out because it’s Eva “Too Much Information” Longoria. And who really thinks Tony Parker is tying her up? Tony always looks like “What smells? What’s going on?” is his permanent internal monologue. I totally don’t buy it:

Chuckle. Kristen Dunst admitted she and Jake “romped in a store changing room”? Let me translate: Kristen wanted to “romp” while Jake said “No!” and tried on ladies underpants. No! South Park‘s recent “Fishsticks” episode caused Kanye’s ego to deflate, and has now apparently ruffled Eva Longoria’s feathers. In the episode, which is about a joke involving fishsticks, Carlos Mencia goes on Conan O’Brien and claims credit for the joke. After the episode aired, Mencia twittered that he thought it was “hysterical”: “They just made fun of me on South Park. I thought it was hysterical. Catch the rerun.” After seeing the episode, Eva Longoria is reportedly livid over the impersonation of Mencia, calling it racist.

Eva Longoria is furious with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Apparently, she is a big fan of comedian Carlos Mencia and thinks that the portrayal of him, seen recently on the Fishticks episode, borders on racism. Eva believes that Carlos Mencia is one of the most talented comedians ever. She is rumored to be telling people that portraying Carlos Mencia as one of the characters on Carlito’s Way is not only stupid; it’s also racist.

“Racist” is a strong word, and should not be used lightly. While I see where Eva is coming from, it sounds like she hasn’t seen that many episodes of South Park and probably doesn’t “get it.” The show has make fun of everyone, and I mean everyone. Tom Cruise, P.Diddy, Al Gore, Michael Jackson, even the Pope. Their humor spans across racial, religious, gender, and sexual preference profiles. In short, they’re fair with their scathing commentary.

Eva Longoria has always been proud and vocal about her Mexican ancestry, and racial issues are certainly an important and relevant part of modern society. But where was Eva, a Catholic, when an episode made fun of the Pope?

And not only that, but Mencia liked the episode. His whole schtick is making fun of people of all ethnicities – why isn’t it okay for South Park creators to do the same?

Eva Longoria had some issues revealing too much to the press early in her relationship with now-husband Tony Parker. In early 2006, she said “I’m the teacher [in our relationship], especially about love,” and claimed that Tony was “always telling me he’s never met anyone who loves the way I do – wholly and freely and unconditionally.” She later tried to take it back, reversing it to say that Tony was really the teacher or something, but the damage was done. Parker has since learned her lesson and has been keeping relatively quiet about what goes on behind closed doors in her marriage, although she does hint at problems in a recent interview.

In a talk with Glamour Magazine, Longoria says that she works at her marriage every day and takes it just one day at a time. If you’re happy in your marriage and things are going well, would you say you take it one day at a time? That’s something you use to deal with the prospect of long stretches of time in which you feel deprived of something. Many people would agree with her that marriage is work and say she’s just being realistic about it, but it sounds like more than that to me.

This is the second marriage for the 33 year-old and the first for her husband Tony, 26. Eva was previously married to actor Tyler Christopher from 2002 to 2004.

GLAMOUR: I read once, “Love is the whole history of a woman’s life, but just an episode in a man’s.” Do you think that’s true?

ELP: I don’t know. I believe that men, when they fall, fall harder than women. Women gauge emotions a lot better because we’re more in touch with them, so we’ll give and take as much as we want.

GLAMOUR: How long have you been married?

ELP: A year and a half. But we dated for two and a half years first. We didn’t rush.

GLAMOUR: What was the courtship like?

ELP: Tony is very romantic, full of surprises—he’s the surprise king. But whether it’s a surprise party or a sweet note he leaves in my bag, for me it weighs the same.

GLAMOUR: What’s one thing about marriage that’s harder than you thought it’d be?

ELP: Marriage is a commitment, so you always have to work at it. For us, just juggling schedules is the biggest obstacle we have, and we don’t even really have a problem with that either…

In just the last month, Longoria was photographed with her hand on Russell Crowe’s knee and was seen sitting on Marc Anthony’s lap. Maybe she wouldn’t have to work so hard on her marriage if she would stick closer to her own husband instead of other women’s. Ironically, Longoria also talked to Glamour about breaking the news to girlfriends that their men are cheating on them:

ELP: [talking about friends dating their friends' exes on "Desperate Housewives"] Oh, you never date someone’s ex-boyfriend. Period. That’s not even the unspoken rule—that’s the spoken rule.

GLAMOUR: Is there a statute of limitations on that?

ELP: I don’t know. Luckily, I’ve never been in a situation where I’ve wanted to date one of my friends’ exes.

GLAMOUR: OK, what if you find out your girlfriend’s boyfriend is cheating on her?

ELP: I would tell her. If it were one of my best friends? I would probably take a picture with my camera phone first.

GLAMOUR: What if it’s her husband?

ELP: That’s a trickier one…. It’s tough, because sometimes people kill the messenger. But I think the truth always comes out, regardless of who tells.

I wonder if Eva did that interview before or after the photos were taken of her with her hand on Russell Crowe’s knee. This woman seems like she’s full of crap to me and I don’t see her marriage lasting that long, no matter how much she tries to play the domestic.

Eva Longoria didn’t look too happy to be photographed out smoking in Puerto Rico over the weekend. Longoria was attending the wedding of her friend, actress Rosalyn Sanchez, on the Caribbean island.

In Touch points out this week that Eva has lost what little weight she gained for her Desperate Housewives character over the summer. Her trainer says she’s on a high protein diet with only fish and no meat. Maybe smoking helps her cut cravings too. It can help you lose weight, but it comes at a huge cost to your health.

The NY Daily News has an article about smoking celebrities who try and hide it from the public. Katherine Heigl, Britney Spears, and Lindsay Lohan are regularly photographed taking drags, but there are other celebrities who are smokers that we don’t know about. Lauren Conrad is one, and Ashlee Simpson used to smoke before she got pregnant. Famous people are aware that there’s a well deserved stigma associated with smoking and many don’t want to set a bad example for fans and young people.

Smoking is a lot more acceptable in Europe and I have a slightly less negative opinion of the bad habit after living here a few years. It’s definitely something that’s socially influenced, and through legislation the US has helped curb smoking while changing attitudes and saving many people years of their lives. Celebrities know that they’re only looking foolish by lighting up. Eva Longoria generally accomplishes that just by opening her mouth.

How much of a celebrity-obsessive do you have to be to watch 9 hours of Creative Arts Emmys, Emmy pre-show and Primetime Emmys?  About as much as I am, I suppose.

The Creative Arts Emmy broadcast was Saturday night on E! and it was more entertaining than the main broadcast Sunday night.  Sarah Silverman was uncharacteristically adorable, and Neil Patrick Harris and Sarah Chalke were far superior hosts. 

With a total of four straight hours of pre-show on E!, then a three hour show, anyone addicted to celebrities, high fashion and ridiculously expensive accessories, can overdose on any awards night, but for some reason, the Emmys can actually give you a hangover before the show is even over.

“Who are you wearing?”, the most overused phrase on E!, is also the most important question of the night for those that tune in for the dresses, jewels, and shoes (and some of the suits).  The Hills’ Lauren Conrad was, not surprisingly, the first “celebrity” on the red carpet and set the fashion tone for a night: bare shoulders, floor length gowns, and strong colors (aside from Marcia Cross’ flesh colored tutu and Eva Longoria’s keep-the-baby-talk fueled flapper dress).

No one’s hair was bigger than Patrick Dempsey’s, but that’s usually how it is anywhere McDreamy is on the guest list.  Most of the Hollywood women wore their hair down, flowing and wavy, so Tina Fey looked very anti-Palin, but, she said she would be happy to have a drink with the Alaska Governor if she’s free in late November.

Ryan Seacrest gets a lot of grief for his too casual hosting of American Idol, and his questionable production partnerships (Denise Richards?  Paris Hilton?) but he’s in his element in the pre-show kind of atmosphere and does a pretty seamless job.  Plus, he knows exactly what it is that he does.  When Kathy Griffin asked him if it bothered him that Josh Grobin got more tail than him, he told her ”He’s a singer. He’s got talent.  I do nothing but fill time.” 

Less impressive was his turn at an opening bit for the main broadcast.  Helping him, or helping him to hurt the rest of us, in hosting the main show were Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, Jeff Probst, and Tom Bergeron, all co-hosting and all the first time ever nominees for Best Host of a Reality or Reality-Competition Program.  The show was sometimes painful and at one point Josh Grobin ruined every TV theme song with a vocal montage that anyone ever loved… ever.  Except South Park, he nailed that one.

But then there was Don Rickles!  Don Rickles stole the show!  The guy is abrasive, but he punched some laughs into a dying show, and left Kathy Griffin speechless.  Anyone who can do that deserves an award!  And he was aptly rewarded a few minutes later with his first Emmy for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program for Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project

My personal picks this year went mostly unrealized, with the happy exceptions of the seven 30 Rock and one each Colbert Report and Daily Show wins.   HBO production John Adams won the year with thirteen statuettes and Mad Men came in one behind 30 Rock with six wins.
