Chelsea Handler in white at the Time 100 event: haggard or just fine?

These are photos from last night’s Time 100 event (Time Magazine’s party for their “100 Most Influential People”). Chelsea Handler made the Time 100, remember? She’s “influential”. And I think this is the first time Andre Balazs, her on-again hotelier boyfriend, has walked the red carpet with her for a significant event. So for Chelsea and Andre’s big public debut as a couple, couldn’t she have put a little more effort into her appearance? Chelsea didn’t even get her trashy roots done!

The theme of the rest of these photos is “Ladies in White”. For some reason, a lot of women were wearing bridal styles at the Time 100 event. Here’s Georgina Chapman, in one of her own Marchesa designs. I didn’t even have to look that up! I know it’s Marchesa because it looks like a busted ice skater’s dress.

Several Sandra Lee photos were tagged “Chelsea Handler”. Which is really depressing for Sandra Lee, because I think she’s a pretty woman who doesn’t look at all busted and ragged.

And here’s a wonderful palette cleanser for the Handler situation – Tilda Swinton, wearing what I suspect is a Haider Ackermann onesie. This is the most fabulous, most hardcore onesie you could ever dream of owning. TILDA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Claire Danes in red Lanvin at the Time 100 event: candy-wrapped goodness?

Claire Danes

At last night’s Time 100 event, Claire Danes opted for more color than the ladies in white. As such, she wore a red Lanvin shift dress made of material that can only properly be described as resembling a Fruit Roll Up. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though because it’s not like she’s pulling a Katy Perry Sweet Tart look and pretending to sit on clouds and poop gum drops. And I do like Fruit Roll Ups even though I rarely indulge (not for weight reasons but because I’ve become quite obsessed with dental health lately). So this is a good (and just daring enough) look for Claire, who accessorized with diamond stud earrings and metallic gold Lanvin platform sandals. Her hair and makeup are appropriate and lovely as well.

Also, this is a great tan trenchcoat that is very flattering to Claire’s coloring and figure.

Rihanna also attended the event but was only photographed outside her NYC hotel (by our photo agencies, anyway). Pacific Coast news notes that Rihanna was “dressed to kill in a hot pink gown and black cape,” but it looked more like she was wearing a fuschia prom dress and a spare coat borrowed from one of her bodyguards. At least she covered all of the necessary parts though, which is really saying a lot when it comes to RiRi and equates to a relative “fashion win” by those standards.

Eva Mendes goes solo in Beverly Hills: are Eva and Ryan Gosling still together?

Here are some new photos of Eva Mendes in Beverly Hills yesterday. According to the photo agency, she was spotted out and about, doing some shopping. As far as I can tell, Eva has been in LA since returning from Thailand several weeks ago. Eva was in Thailand for more than a month, keeping Ryan Gosling company as he filmed a movie – and perhaps keeping an eye on him so he didn’t get distracted by any pretty young things too. What’s interesting to me is that Ryan Gosling seemed to spend a lot of time in NYC after the Thailand film shoot ended. Ryan and Eva seemed to be taking a little break after spending so much time together in Thailand, and some people hoped the “break” would actually lead to an actual breakup.

But! Ryan was photographed in LA several days ago. Eva was spotted last week, stocking up on groceries, allegedly in preparation for Ryan’s return. So… officially, Ryan and Eva are still together. Meaning that there has been no breakup announcement, and Eva and her rep will issue statements combating any rumor that there’s trouble in paradise. This was your Gosling-Mendes FYI of the Day.

Also – should we talk about Eva’s outfit here? That sweater looks so dated! I think my mom had that sweater in 1986. Same buttons, same unflattering cut. I don’t really get Eva’s “look” in general though.

Claire Danes in hot pink Narciso Rodriguez: gorgeous or blah?

Claire Danes

Claire Danes was on hand at the Tribeca Film Festival for last night premiere of Hysteria, which stars her husband Hugh Dancy as Mortimer Granville, the doctor who invented the modern electromechanical vibrator in 1880 (or so). Maggie Gyllenhaal, who stars in the film, was not present because, presumably, she’s getting some much needed rest while heavily pregnant with her second child. So we’ll have to get our female fashion fix with Claire, who wore a hot pink and black shift-type Narciso Rodriguez dress, which was slightly daring in its color choice but quite strange in the boob area. The top part of the dress squishes Claire’s girls and makes her look really flat, which she totally isn’t. I think this look is supposed to be “edgy,” but Claire pulled off that vibe a lot better in last year’s metallic blue Oscar de la Renta gown. She still looks quote lovely though even if her eye makeup is a bit too severe.

Hugh Dancy was there too, of course! He and Claire walked the red carpet separately — I guess because it’s his film, and Claire’s pink dress would’ve distracted from the red carpet’s rightful focus. Maybe. All I know is that Hugh looks like a British dreamboat.

Hugh Dancy

Christy Turlington and Edward Burns were in attendance as well and dressed down for the event. Ed looks like he’s totally over this and would rather be a few steps away in his own Tribeca apartment. Can’t say I blame him.

Michelle Williams in patchwork Giambattista Valli: lovely or boring?

Here are some more photos from the twenty-million events in and around the Tribeca Film Festival over the weekend. Let’s start with Michelle Williams, who looked happier than I’ve seen her in a long time. That is the look of love, people. Jason Segel has been in New York for the past week, and he and Michelle have been loved up. Michelle is even feeling bold enough to smile with her teeth! Anyway, Michelle wore this Giambattista Valli dress to the Take This Waltz premiere. I’m not in love with the dress, and she’s completely exhausted this silhouette. But sure. For what it is, and for the look she was going for, this is solid.

Here’s some Eric Bana, just because we rarely have new photos of him and this man is FINE.

Here’s James Franco, looking like a d-bag. Here’s the name of the film he’s promoting: Francophrenia (Or: Don’t Kill Me, I Know Where The Baby Is). For real.

Call me crazy, but Sarah Silverman looks really good here. I’m not even a fan.

Chris Colfer is adorable, isn’t he? Out of the entire Glee cast, I hope he’s the one that really breaks out and has a long career.

Olivia Wilde has been all over the Tribeca Film Festival for various reasons – she’s in some new films, but she’s also been to some premieres just for the hell of it. Here’s Olivia in Mason. Eh. I’m not crazy about it, but it’s not actively horrible. I can’t wait for her to dye her hair back too – this color doesn’t suit her at all. (Not even talking about the crazy Brian Atwood shoes, okay?)

And here’s Olivia in Prada. Now THIS is actively bad. And why would you put this horrible dress with those shoes? Ugh.

Scarlett Johansson in Prada at the UK ‘Avengers’ premiere: lovely or too dust-ruffled?

I’m going to be gender biased today and break up last night’s Avengers premiere photos into two posts, one for the girls and one for the boys. This is the girls’ post. Obviously. Let’s start off with The Avengers’ Jiggle, Scarlett Johansson. ScarJo wore this polka-dotted Prada for the big London premiere… well, I say “polka dots” but they’re not really. I think they’re roses? It’s some kind of flower print, but from a distance it looks like “dotty”. Something nice… er… I don’t hate the color combination of black, blue and red. Those colors could have been garish, but they’re not. As for the actual design… meh. I would like to see it without the vagina dust ruffle. And with different shoes – something in black or blue (or both). I’m also not a fan of ScarJo’s hair for this carpet.

Cobie Smulders has a small part in the film. She’s a pretty girl, but I’m not crazy about this red Alexandra Vidal Fall 2012 gown. One, it feels like overkill considering she’s not even close to one of the top 10 billed actors, so why is she wearing an Oscar gown? Two, the quilted detail on the shoulders makes her look bulky, and she’s not. Bad design.

Elsa Pataky is Chris Hemsworth’s pregnant wife. I feel like she’s been pregnant forever, right? Incidentally, Elsa is totally the girl who dated Adrien Brody, and he bought her a CASTLE, and then she dumped him for Olivier Martinez, and then somebody dumped somebody, and instantly Elsa was with Chris and she was knocked up. It happened really quickly from what I remember. I don’t know who did her dress, but it’s very pretty.

Emily Blunt in pink lace Michael Kors: did Emma Watson already do this look?

I was surprised that yesterday’s post about the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of 5 Year Engagement didn’t get more love – there were good photos in that post! I was going to lead with Emily Blunt’s lovely black-and-green dress, but I punted on it at the last minute. So here’s your Emily Blunt-centric post of the week! These are new pics of Blunt at last night’s Tribeca Film Festival premiere of Your Sister’s Sister. Once again, Emily looks great. She’s been looking so wonderful lately, I have to wonder if she got a new stylist…? Remember how Blunt used to be styled? It was always kind of awful. She made horrible color choices, her makeup would often look garish and clown-ish and all too often, her clothes weren’t tailored. But these days, Emily is so much more polished.

This lace dress is by Michael Kors – it‘s beautiful. I wonder if the dress needs that belt, though. That specific belt… eh. If you were hellbent on wearing a belt, maybe coordinate it so it doesn’t seem like you put the belt on as an afterthought? But it’s a small thing – overall, I look this on Emily. Love her hair and makeup too. It took me a full ten minutes to realize what this dress reminded me of – from the waist up, it looks very much like a Valentino mini-dress that Emma Watson wore last year:

Don’t even yell at me and say that they are completely different dresses. I KNOW. But the pink lace, the nearly identical cut at the neckline, the long sleeves… they are similar. Which is on Michael Kors, not Emily Blunt.

Katy Perry nearly slips a boob in white lace Temperley: lovely or trashy?

katy perry

Here’s some photos of Katy Perry at last evening’s ASCAP Pop Music Awards in Hollywood. Her hair isn’t bad here, and it looks like the brand-new violet hue has faded a bit with a few (presumed) washings. The dress is Temperly London in white lace, and it’s a gorgeous gown in and of itself. However, this is Katy Perry we’re talking about, so just she had to trash it up a bit by letting the left shoulder strap fall by the wayside and, in the process, risking a major nipple slip. With a rack as big as Katy’s, such a move even risked her entire boob falling out too.

katy perry

Here is the moment when Katy “discovers” that she’s about to go topless in front of the world:

katy perry

I have to wonder whether Katy did this on purpose or if it was merely an accident. We’ve already seen how she often wears dresses that, while lovely, don’t flatter her girls, and it’s truly like she doesn’t know what to do with them. Or are these suspect fashion choices all part of her plan? Personally (and my rack is above average but not as big as Katy’s) I’m always very conscious about any potential wardrobe malfunction and go to great lengths to prevent such an accident from occurring. So I’m sort of wondering exactly how Katy could let that strap dangle without even noticing her error until it was almost too late. Her good-girl-gone-bad image seems too calculated for such a red-carpet appearance to not be entirely mapped out. She totally planned this, right?

Kim Kardashian in silver at the Us Weekly party: jacked, busted & not terrible?

These are photos from last night’s “Us Weekly Hot Hollywood party” or something like that. Us Weekly usually gets a decent turnout for their parties, and last night the woman of the hour was Kim Kardashian, of course. Honestly, I don’t hate Kim’s dress or her styling here. I usually think she’s a katastrophe, but when she makes an effort with a “glam” look, she usually looks okay. I’m glad she’s not doing the Croydon facelift – but she doesn’t need to, because that face has been Botoxed, filler’d and injected into oblivion. She really needs to stop messing with her lips, because I think Kim’s lip situation is worse than both Nicole Kidman and Lindsay Lohan. Kim also tweeted all about her night, including a suspicious one about maybe missing Kanye. Poor Kim. Poor Kanye too.

Julianne Hough was there. I kind of like her dress, even with the weird side-boobage. It’s a pretty color on her. I find myself more and more impressed with Julianne’s style choices lately – I think Seacrest bought her a decent stylist.

I think Busy Phillips is a hot mess here. I usually think she’s a mess, though. She has “fun” with her clothes, which is fine, especially when she’s going to an Us Weekly party. But I’d like to see her try a cleaner, more mature look when she’s going to a big awards show or something.

Olivia Munn… disaster. Plain dress, poorly accessorized. The necklace doesn’t “go” with the dress, and I just hate the booties.

Kellan Lutz knows you want to see Kellan Lutz. Kellan Lutz made the Us Weekly party especially Kellan Lutzy. KELLAN LUTZ!!!!

Julia Roberts in conservative black-and-white: adorable or school-girl fug?

Last night was the LA premiere of Jesus Henry Christ, the film which Julia Roberts co-produced with her sister Lisa. Julia doesn’t star in the film – it features performances by Michael Sheen and Toni Collette, two wonderful actors. But Julia was still THE STAR of the red carpet, meaning that she was the most photographed person there, and considering Julia’s red carpet appearances are few and far between, let’s talk about her! What do you think of her school-girl ensemble? Eh. While I like that Julia is the rare over-40s actress who doesn’t feel the need to tart it up and show off too much skin, I feel like this look is “too young” in a completely different way. I actually thought Julia was in costume as a Catholic school-girl for a moment, you know? Still, the dress looks comfortable. And Julia still has those great legs.

Does anyone else think Julia needs to stop parting her hair down the center? She needs to mix it up with a side part, I think.

Julia’s little niece Emma was there too. She went monochromatic as well. I would love to see Julia and Emma switch outfits – Julia in the smart suit, Emma in the high-necked black dress. Right? They should have switched.

And here’s Michael Sheen! So cute. Rachel McAdams was not with him.
