Felicity Huffman, 45, and her husband of 11 years William H Macy, 58, were seen having fun and looking fit on the beach in Malibu with their daughter Georgia, 6. They also have another daughter Grace, who turns 8 in August. They’re in Hawaii for the Maui film festival. Felicity Huffman will be honored with the “Nova” award at the festival for her work in film, theatre and on television.

Can you believe William H Macy is 58? He looks incredible! Huffman is no slouch herself. I like hearing about these two because they don’t get enough credit for their acting skills or for the longevity of their marriage. It is the first marriage for both of them.

According to Wikipedia, Macy’s hobbies include wordturning, which is using a lathe to make wooden objects, and playing the ukulele. He has around nine films coming up later this year and into 2009, including several family films, dramas, a horror film and an animated movie.

TMZ is running a story on this not super-titillating gossip day (it’s pretty average from my experience, but may seem like a lull in comparison to the Reese and Britney split days) with the title “Felicity (Huffman) Adopts a Black… Puppy.” They make a silly comparison to Madonna’s recent baby-snatching, saying that Felicity managed to adopt without controversy.

A screenshot is above because chances are they’ll pull it or retitle the article once they realize the blunder.

Initial commentors are focusing on the fact that they’re comparing a dog to an African infant:

1. Are you people comparing a BLACK puppy to a BLACK innocent child? I guess you think that’s cute. Shame on you TMZ! - Offended
3. Ok…there are plenty of other things in this world that could offend me…but I do think this was in pretty bad taste. Get it together guys! You usually entertain me through my humdrum work day…but this is just wrong. Just the heading alone is going to piss people off. I am a person with an easygoing spirit (and a black woman!) so I can forgive it…but alot of other people are not going to like this! - In bad taste

From my perspective, they could have just titled the dumb non-article “Felicity adopts… a puppy.”

It would never occur to me to point out that the puppy happens to be black. You could simply compare adoptions without noting the dog’s color. What’s the point?

I get miffed when fellow gossip writers point out someone’s race when it’s obvious who they’re talking about. Like when someone says “Check out that black guy in the background,” and there’s one guy. Why make a reference to his race? If you need an adjective, say “surprised.” To me, it’s not being PC so much as sensible. There’s no reason to make race - or dog color - an issue.

Thank you for Smoking premiered in NY last night. Celebrities attending included Felicity Huffman, William H Macy, Adam Brody, Rachel Bilson, Kristin Cavalleri, and Selma Blair. Despite the film’s theme only candy cigarettes were served at the after party.

Brody and Macy are featured in the film, which portrays a tobacco lobbyist in a positive light, and takes a humorous stance on the taboo subject of the dangers of smoking.

Desperate Housewives star and Academy Award-nominated actress Felicity Huffman has revealed her battle with severe bulimia and body dysmorphic disorder. While Huffman is recovered now, she was troubled and sick up until her late 30s. Huffman’s personal experience helped her identify with her character in Transamerica:

Another article quotes Huffman as saying that she vomited up to six times a day at the height of her illness.

It takes a lot of courage to come out with that. Huffman seems to be keeping healthy now with a thin but very strong frame. Hopefully her message will help others who struggle with the pain of not being satisfied with their bodies.

Huffman, 43, has been married to renowned character actor William H. Macy, 56, since 1997. They have two daughters, Sofia and Georgia, aged five and three.
