Howard Stern slams Gaby Sidibe as “the most enormous, fat black chick”

wenn2765549

See, this is what I was afraid of, and this is what I, in my small way, was trying to do my best to avoid in the awards coverage. It seems Howard Stern decided that it was his place to slam Oscar nominee Gaby Sidibe, describing her as “the most enormous, fat black chick I’ve ever seen” and “an enormous woman the size of a planet.” Most disgusting is that Howard decided (by royal douchey fiat, it seems) that Gaby will never work in Hollywood again, because “What movie is she gonna be in?” Ugh. Here’s more:

Howard Stern unleashed a vicious attack on Gabourey Sidibe on his Sirius satellite show on Monday.

“There’s the most enormous, fat black chick I’ve ever seen. She is enormous. Everyone’s pretending she’s a part of show business and she’s never going to be in another movie,” he said. “She should have gotten the Best Actress award because she’s never going to have another shot. What movie is she gonna be in?”

He and co-host Robin Quivers went on to discuss the impossibility of Gabby finding any work in Hollywood after ‘Precious.’

“And Oprah’s lying and saying you’re going to have a brilliant career,” said Robin.

“Oprah’s another liar, a filthy liar,” said Stern. “She’s telling an enormous woman the size of a planet that she’s going to have a career.”

It looks like Gabby will prove Stern wrong. She is lined up to appear on the new Showtime series ‘The C Word’ and her next big-screen appearance will be opposite Zoe Kravitz in the drama ‘Yelling to the Sky.’

[From HuffPo]

Now, I’m not going to pretend that Gaby is on the same career track as, say, another Best Actress nominee like Carey Mulligan or someone like that. Gaby’s not going to have that kind of career, and that’s fine. However, a casting director source told PopEater‘s gossip guy that: “I’m not saying it’s correct, but it’s a simple fact that she will have to lose a lot of weight if she wants to keep getting parts. The same thing happened to Nikki Blonsky from ‘Hairspray.’ Everyone said how great she was, and she hasn’t worked since.” Now, considering that she’s already got some projects lines up, and her humor, grace and class throughout this whole awards process has won her significant and powerful allies in the Hollywood community, I’d say the chances are pretty good that Gaby will be a working actress for years to come.

As far as Stern’s rant… ugh. I don’t even have words. I’ve never understood people who think Stern is God. He’s just some misogynistic douche. He’s like John Mayer, all grown up.

Gabourey Sidibe wasn’t upset with Vanity Fair’s all-white cover
Oscar Nominee Luncheon 2010

Remember the “pretty white girl” cover of Vanity Fair’s Hollywood Issue? Yeah. Lots of very pale, young, thin actresses who represent the “future” of Hollywood. As many pointed out, if that cover represented the future, then the future is all-white. Many critics also pointed out the exclusion of one of 2009’s biggest breakout stars: Gabourey Sidibe. Gabby, the Oscar-nominated actress who debuted in Precious, was included in an Annie Leibovitz photograph with director Lee Daniels and Mo’Nique inside the VF pages, but she didn’t make the cover. What gives? Well, it might not matter to Gabby, because she’s such a classy young woman, she skillfully avoided throwing Vanity Fair under the bus for their all-white cover, and answered some tricky questions about race, weight and Hollywood with a grace beyond her years:

It wasn’t just a host of media watchers that noticed the lack of diversity on Vanity Fair’s 2010 Young Hollywood cover. Breakout star Gabourey Sidibe noticed it too.

Newcomer Gabourey, an Oscar nominee for her role in “Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire” admitted that although she was happy being a part of the magazine — she’s featured in a shoot with her “Precious” co-star Mo’Nique and director Lee Daniels — her cover exclusion did indeed cross her mind.

“Were you satisfied with the story inside the magazine?” Access Hollywood asked the Best Actress nominee at Monday’s Oscar Luncheon.

“Was I satisfied? Yeah, well… I mean, I come from a world where I’m not on covers and I’m not in magazines at all,” Gabourey said. “And so I was happy to be in the magazine. At first I thought, ‘Hmm, should I be there.’ Then I very quickly got over it. I think if I were a part of that shoot I would have felt a little left out anyway.”

Gabourey added that had she been chosen for the cover, which spotlighted a host of stars including Kristen Stewart, Carey Mulligan, Abbie Cornish, Amanda Seyfried and Anna Kendrick, she would have wondered whether she fit in.

“I would have felt a little like… whether or not I should have been there,” she told Shaun. “[It] doesn’t matter, because I wasn’t on it and I’m excited to be mentioned anywhere, and it doesn’t matter to me where I’m not mentioned.”

In fact, Gabourey doesn’t seem to let anything get to her, having decided long ago to be happy with the person she sees in the mirror.

“It was a long transition,” she said. “It was so long ago that I don’t exactly remember how I got there. I’m just grateful that I am there because so many people go through this — beautiful people, gorgeous people — don’t feel it, don’t feel as if they’re gorgeous and I think it’s really sad and I’m glad that I happen to be one of the people who does feel [it].”

I’ve really started to love this girl. She is the opposite of the entitled, strung-out brats who pass for celebrities. She’s one of my favorite “underdog” stories, and I hope she continues to find work in Hollywood. Hopefully her Oscar nomination for Precious will open even more doors for her, and we’ll be seeing her for years to come.

Gabourey Sidibe & Dakota Fanning: “Big Love” & “Little Lady”

v-magazine

Aren’t these two gorgeous covers? They are the covers that V Magazine has put out for their February “size issue”. It’s in this size issue that CB talked about a few weeks ago, with the un-airbrushed plus-sized models looking fabulous. We haven’t been showing Gabourey Sibide enough love, and little Dakota Fanning has grown on me so much in the past year, it’s kind of fabulous that they’ve put these two women on their cover. The interview excerpts are kind of basic, though – Dakota talking about being a size zero, and Gabby talking about how there are very few plus-sized role models for young actresses.

We’ve already brought you a few glimpses from inside V magazine’s provocative “Size Issue,” featuring a bevy of plus-size models, and now we have the view from the outside.

To celebrate women of all shapes, V chose size zero actress Dakota Fanning, 15, and Gabourey Sidibe, the 26-year-old critically acclaimed plus-size star of “Precious,” to grace its two contrasting covers which hit newsstands Jan. 14.

Both young ladies were shot in New York City by husband-and-wife photo team Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin, with Fanning wearing a corset over a sweatshirt, both by Alexander Wang, and Sidibe showing a bare décolletage.

In one of the accompanying cover stories, Fanning — who holds the distinct and enviable titles of being both a “Twilight” star and a real life varsity cheerleader — admits she’s getting increasingly more into fashion these days.

“Now that I’m getting older, I’m finally getting to the point where I can fit into those things,” she says of her favorite labels Elizabeth & James, Chanel and Marc Jacobs. “I’ve always been really small, really short and I’m finally starting to be able to wear a 0 without having to take it in like five inches.”

V also talked to Fanning’s “Twilight” co-star-slash-BFF Kristen Stewart about her friend.

“Dakota is an astounding human being, incredibly intimidating and one of the smartest people I’ve ever met,” says Stewart. “She’s become one of my best friends. We’re so comfortable together that we have a second language.”

The two also share a very special moment — a makeout scene, in fact — in the new rock biopic, The Runaways. When asked about the kiss, Fanning played it cool.

“It’s passionate — they were just as close as two could get,” she says of her and Stewart’s characters.

Sidibe also sat down for an interview with V, where she talks about her plus-size hero and “Precious” co-star, Mo’Nique.

“Growing up there weren’t a lot of actresses and singers that looked like me,” says the New York born-and-bred actress. “There were no real times that I thought maybe I can do it, until Mo’Nique came along. She’s a plus-sized woman who didn’t care about one day being skinny. All my life I’ve been hearing that I’ll never amount to anything until I am skinny. She disproved everything that everyone has ever told me.”

Sidibe has garnered major Oscar buzz for her performance in “Precious” and is working on her second film, “Yelling to the Sky,” alongside Zoe Kravitz.

Dakota also reveals that the only drug she ever does is “crushed B vitamins” on the set of The Runaways. Dakota said: “Kristen and I were, like, our hair is gonna grow a lot from these.” She’s such a cutie. I’m actually looking forward to seeing The Runaways, K-Stew’s lip-biting and all. But I still haven’t seen Precious. I’m unprepared for it, it looks like it would leave me utterly devastated.
