Gillian Anderson’s changing face at the ‘MI4′ premiere: Botoxy or all-natural?

A few months ago, I was looking at new photos of Gillian Anderson, and I became enchanted by her face. I was an old-school fan of The X-Files, and I remember what she used to look like on the first several seasons of that show, back in the early 1990s. Throughout the show, she thinned out and got a “sleeker” look – better hair, better makeup, better lighting. But even I was unprepared for Gillian’s recent incarnation. She’s really remade herself into a rather stunning woman of 43. Does she look her age? Sort of – and I’m saying that as a compliment. She looks like a really great version of “43”.

Anyway, these are new photos of Gillian at last night’s London premiere of Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol. I have no idea why she appeared on the red carpet – she’s not in the film or anything, and I don’t believe she’s friendly with Tom Cruise or anything. But she was there, and she wore this odd orange-red and black dress that I’m not really in love with. As for her face… she looks slightly more plastic in these photos than in the last set I covered. Do I still think she’s achieved her look without a surgeon’s knife? Do you think that? I’m starting to doubt myself. Maybe it’s just the way she’s aging – her face has gotten longer, and it’s made her cheekbones and eyes “pop” more. The blonde hair might be throwing me off too. But there is a whiff of Winslet about this, right? I want to think Gillian is all-natural. But her boobs are making a strong case for the “Gillian has a great surgeon” argument.

Gillian Anderson is ageless: good genes or a good surgeon?

wenn3577788

Am I a dork for admitting that I used to really like The X-Files? I used to love the series in the first three or four seasons. And then it got bad and I stopped paying attention, but because of my affection for those first seasons, I will probably always like Gillian Anderson. Gillian’s appearance has gone back and forth from “meh” to “bad” to “bombshell” over the years, but she’s looked like this for a while now. These are photos of Gillian in London (her current home), where she was attending the London Film Festival Awards last night. Gillian basically just works in the UK now, right? Pretty much.

Anyway, I keep seeing photos of Gillian promoting this, that and the other in England and I keep meaning to write about how great she looks these days, at the age of 43. I think she’s just one of those ladies who lost their “baby fat” from their face late in life (I’m still waiting for my baby fat to fall from my face), and suddenly they have cheekbones in their 40s. Or is that naïve? Is Gillian being helped out by some magical English surgeons? I’ve included some close-ups of her animated face on the red carpet, and… I have to say, she doesn’t really look tweaked to me. Her face moves with seeming normalcy, she’s not puffy or waxy, so I’m not detecting Botox or Restylane. She could have had her eyes done, but I’m kind of doubting that. They don’t look pulled or tight. I don’t even think she’s getting lip injections. Could it be that there’s a 43-year-old woman in the film and TV industry who hasn’t tweaked her face? Who just takes care of her skin? GASP. *clutches pearls*

Gillian Anderson at the Johnny English premiere: amazing or too fussy?

67668PCN_JohnnyEnglish
Here’s Gillian Anderson, 42, looking lovely at the premiere of the Johnny English sequel in London Sunday night. (I know these photos came out a little while ago, but it’s slow this morning and I’m just seeing them now.) She looks so pretty here. I can’t tell if it’s because she’s had a little subtle tweaking or if it’s due to her makeup and updo. Her look borders on “too much” without stepping over that line, in my opinion. Her dress is a little too baby doll-ish with the sparkly dickey-looking front piece and the flowing knee length skirt with tulle overlay. Somehow she makes it work though. I used to be a Gillian Anderson superfan back in the X-Files days and I love seeing her so well put together.

Here’s a little blurb from Anderson where she says she’d like to play lighter goofier characters:

Gillian Anderson has said she’s fed up with sensible roles and wants to play someone silly.

The actress, best known for playing straight-laced Dana Scully in The X-Files, stars as bossy MI7 agent Pamela Thornton in new film Johnny English Reborn.

When asked why she keeps getting cast as authority figures, the star replied: “I don’t know, I’m tired of it!”

Gillian, who attended the Johnny English sequel’s London premiere on Sunday, added: “I would love to play a clumsy person. I would love to fall on my bottom.”

The actress also revealed how she got into character to play Miss Havisham in the BBC One reworking of Charles Dickens’ classic Great Expectations.

“I read a lot, I did a lot of research. It’s different from everything that I do. I just tried to get into her head,” she said.
“Just reading everything about Dickens, everything that’s been written about the character in the past and reading essays on her, trying not to watch very much because I don’t like to be influenced by other things.”

She added: “I haven’t seen any of it, I’m really looking forward to seeing it.”

Gillian has three kids: Piper, 17, from her first husband, and Oscar, nearly five, and Felix, nearly three, from her current partner, British director Mark Griffiths. (He’s shown with her in these photos.) Gillian and Mark live in London. I enjoy seeing her continuing to get work (even if it’s in crap films like this) and looking so amazing. She seemed like she was having problems for a while when she was with her second husband, documentary filmmaker Julian Ozanne, and she didn’t look as groomed back then. Looking at those older photos, I can tell she’s had something done but that it was done well. If I could get results like this I’d have a few jabs here and there too.

David Duchovny wants to make another X Files movie, loves Twilight

wenn3112302
I used to be an X Files fan back when it aired on TV. I’ve seen a lot of episodes, but I lost interest during those complicated multi-episode arcs. (The one that stands out as confusing was that extraterrestrial plot with the “black oil” eye thing. Maybe if Wikipedia was around back then I would have been able to make sense of it.) The two X-Files movies were lousy when compared to the series, although the first one was much better than the last, which came out too late and seemed to phone it in. Star David Duchovny recently said that he’s game for another X-Files movie, but the likelihood that will happen is probably nil. The last one, 2008′s I Want To Believe seriously underperformed at the box office. Duchovny said so many nice things about the show and his experiences on it that you can tell he’d love to do another one. He also kissed up to Woody Allen and seemed to put in a bid for a role in the Twilight movies:

DAVID Duchovny wants to make another X-Files movie.

The Hollywood actor says he’s keen to reprise his role as Agent Fox Mulder for a third flick in the franchise.

“I’m always game. It always rides on Fox. [Chris Carter] is game. I know [Gillian Anderson] is game. We all, at this point, love the show. We all, at this point, would love to work with one another again. We’re all good friends and miss one another, and miss working together.

“We worked together so hard for so long, so closely. We had some ups and downs personally, sure. But in the end, they are really like family to me. We’re all like this little X-Files family and I, for one, would love to continue. And I think there’s a lot left in the show. You know? And I think we can continue to make good movies.

“It’s just a matter of spending enough on a movie that can compete in the summertime. We made a movie and released it in the summer, but it wasn’t really a blockbuster movie. And it got kind of overshadowed by the bigger ones. So, we’re saying, make us big. We’ll fight with the big boys.”

David, 50, recently admitted he would “go gay” for the stars of Twilight.

“If I were gay, you know. I think Woody Allen is one of a long list of men I might go gay for,” said the star, who has two children with wife Tea Leoni.

“Garry Shandling is someone I’ve publicly gone gay for, for jokes. Oh and anyone in the Twilight movies. I don’t know any of their names, but all of them. The wolves, the vampires? They’re all fantastic.”

[From Showbiz Spy via ONTD]

Duchovny is doing pretty well with Californication on Showtime, but he’s clearly pitching for some movie roles. The guy already looks so much like a vampire, (although he’s since improved) but I think he should be shooting for True Blood, not Twilight. On True Blood he really could go gay for just about any of the supes.

Season 4 of Californication premiered on Showtime last night.

Gillian Anderson has a baby boy

Gillian Anderson had a baby boy, Felix Griffiths, on October 15th, with her boyfriend, director Mark Griffiths. It is the third child for the X-Files actress. 40 year-old Anderson also has a 13 year-old daughter, Piper, from her first marriage, and a one year-old son, Oscar, also with Griffiths. Anderson and Griffiths reside in London.

Anderson starred in the second installment of the X Files films, The X Files: I Want to Believe, which was out this July. The film had disappointing sales at the box office, and was largely thought to suffer from the nearly six year gap since the belated end of the TV series. She also appears in How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, out now, and has at least three projects in the works for next year.

Congratulations to the happy family on their new arrival!

Gillian Anderson claims she eats and sits on her butt while pregnant

The X-Files Gillian Anderson makes pregnancy sound pretty sweet. According to her, she spends most of her time laying around on her butt and eating. Which makes the morning sickness sound significantly less awful. Though I think a lot of us do that without being pregnant too… sad. Gillian has been doing a lot of promotion for the X-Files moved I Want to Believe. Which I can imagine can be pretty strenuous, especially when you’re pregnant. But she seems to have held up pretty well, and is just enjoying her pregnancy and keeping it pretty stress-free.

No working out for Gillian Anderson — who is expecting a child in October.

“The only thing I do when I’m pregnant is eat and sit on my butt!” the X-Files: I Want to Believe star, 39, told Usmagazine.com at the movie’s Hollywood premiere Wednesday. (The flick opens Friday.)

“I’m not really craving anything, but there’s the lazy part of me that thinks, ‘What’s the point in working out until I have the baby?’ Then we’ll actually do something!” she said.

“I know that’s not necessarily the right way to look at it,” she added, “but that’s just me.”

Anderson told Us besides having “a couple of films coming out later in the year that I’ll do some promotion for,” she plans on focusing her life on mommyhood.

She and beau Mark Griffiths are already parents to son Oscar, 20 months. She also has a daughter Piper, 13, from a prior marriage.

[From Us Weekly]

Anderson’s co-star David Duchovny made a bit of a stir by not showing up with his wife, Tea Leoni, at the premiere. He also claimed that he saw a UFO in 1982, but he was really stressed at the time. Which makes it rather unclear as to whether or not he thinks he saw a UFO.

Here’s Gillian and David at the premiere of “The X-Files: I Want to Believe” in Hollywood last night. Images thanks to PR Photos.

Gillian Anderson pregnant with third child

Hot X-Files actress Gillian Anderson, 39, is pregnant with her third child. Anderson has a daughter, Piper, 13, from her first marriage, and a 2 year-old son, Oscar, with her boyfriend, director Mark Griffiths.

Anderson was married to her second husband, documentary filmmaker Julian Ozanne, for 16 months before they announced their separation in April, 2006. She had her second child, reportedly by her current boyfriend Mark Griffiths, in November 2006. You can do the math, but maybe she decided to wait before making it known that she was separated from her second husband.

Anderson will next appear in the much-anticipated X-Files sequel, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, which is out in the US on July 25.

Congratulations to Anderson and Griffiths!

Gillian Anderson and Mark Griffiths are shown outside an Esquire Magazine event on 5/28/08 and in Cannes on 5/14/08, thanks to WENN.

Opening festival at Cannes, including Cate Blanchett & Natalie Portman

The stars were out for the opening festival at the Cannes film festival, and they sure were gorgeous. The first film to open the 12 day film festival on the Riveria is Blindness. The film by Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles is based on a 1955 novel in which an entire city goes blind after an epidemic. Julianne Moore plays one of the few people who is unaffected and retains her sight. She tries to hide it from the rest of the city as society breaks down from the effects of the change. Blindness also stars Mark Ruffalo, Danny Glover, and Gael García Bernal.

The 9 person jury at Cannes includes Natalie Portman and is headed by Sean Penn. Penn didn’t miss a chance to rip on US President George Bush while talking to the press at the event. It’s likely that he was asked directly about it, and he is quoted by Reuters as saying “When somebody operates without a brain and without a heart, they kill hundreds of thousands of people around the world.” I dislike Bush as much as the next person, but there are much better ways of phrasing that. It’s lame to personally attack someone in such a blunt way when you can state more compelling reasons for disliking the guy. Bush definitely has a heart and a brain, he just choses when to use them. When it involves money, they’re easily switched off and immune to suffering, death and general havok-wrecking. Reuters notes that Penn then smoked a cigarette “in defiance of French anti-smoking laws.” You would think he would be afraid of setting that ridiculous hair on fire.

Shown at the opening ceremony at Cannes are Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman, Eva Longoria (who’s still looking pregnant to me), Rachida Brakni, Aishwarya Rai, Gillian Anderson, Sean Penn (the hair!), Julianne Moore, Gael García Bernal, Mischa Barton, Danny Glover, and Bar Rafaeli.

X-Files Movie Sequel – Is It Out There?

The 90s are back, and with them comes the X-Files. Maybe. While out promoting his new television show Californication, David Duchovney said he and the female lead Gillian Anderson, as well as director Chris Carter were signed on. This isn’t the first time David has mentioned a sequel to the television series and movie, and no release date has been confirmed. The truth is out there. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)

“I’m supposed to see a script next week,” he said during a session promoting his new Showtime show, Californication. “I’m actually supposed to see it next week. Before I would just say that because they told me.”

Duchovny reports that the Scully to his Mulder, Gillian Anderson, will reprise her FBI agent/skeptic role, and series creator Chris Carter is due back to direct and cowrite the film with series vet Frank Spotnitz.

“Chris is going to direct it. Gillian is on board and I’m on board,” he said. “I’ve been talking to Chris and he has been giving me progress reports. He actually called yesterday and said next week you should have something to read.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing what he did.”

E! News

Like all the other X-Philes out there, I’m really hoping Mr X and Smoking Man make an appearance, and what happened to Mulder and Scully’s son William after he was adopted? Will Scully get cancer again? Will the sexual tension between the two agents reach a climax? This was the perfect show, combining sci-fi and soap opera.

According to the (very long and detailed) pages on Wikipedia, the show has a huge following even now. I remember when Gillian Anderson was such a sex symbol, around the same time Teri Hatcher was the most downloaded image when wearing just superman’s cape. All that suited steaminess, now we’ve just got Girls Gone Wild and crotch-baring celebrities.

Gillian Anderson is pregnant – just after leaving her husband

Former X-Files star Gillian Anderson, 37, left her second husband, documentary filmmaker Julian Ozanne, 42, after just 16 months. They announced their split at the end of April.

Anderson is pregnant now with her second child and is dating a new guy, but she’s visibly pregnant, and looks like she’s about five months along. That means that either she got pregnant by her estranged husband and will be raising his baby with another guy (which is similar to what Heidi Klum did with Seal) or that she was pregnant by her boyfriend and that could be the reason she split up with her husband:

X-Files star star Gillian Anderson is pregnant just three months after splitting from her husband.

The actress, 37, has told friends she is expecting a baby following her separation from documentary-maker Julian Ozanne, her second husband…

Miss Anderson is now reported to be dating wheelclamping firm director Mark Griffiths. The 34-year-old businessman, who operates his lucrative private clamping company from an industrial estate in North London, was previously linked with former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell.

Last month Mr Griffiths, who used to live close to Miss Anderson’s marital home in Notting Hill, West London, moved into her new £3million home in nearby Holland Park.

The couple are also said to have enjoyed a holiday to California with Piper, Miss Anderson’s daughter by her first husband, Canadian television art director Clyde Klotz. The actress’s marriage to Mr Ozanne broke down shortly after The Mail on Sunday revealed she had a bizarre alcohol-fuelled outburst on a flight in January this year…

When The Mail on Sunday asked Mr Ozanne if his former wife was pregnant he declined to comment.

We speculated back in April that Anderson’s relationship with her second husband was probably on the rocks because she seemed to be drinking too much. She suffered from drunken air rage (although one can hardly blame her, with the stress of flying and all) and looked visibly drunk in these candids of her out with her then-husband.

Hopefully she’s laying off the sauce now that’s she’s pregnant and maybe she’ll find happiness with her latest beau. It’s not too promising that he runs a “wheel-clamping” business, though. Who doesn’t hate those guys?

Here are pictures of Anderson from March out with her husband. She is seen at the Belle Epoque Dinner on 3/16 and in some candids looking visibly soused. Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton are also shown. The first set of pictures you may have seen before, but the second set are new to me. [via]

Thanks to HotMommaDrama for reporting this first.
