Gwen Stefani gives birth to a baby boy named Zuma

Gwen Stefan has given birth to a baby boy named Zuma. We were initially relying on E! Online’s report that she gave birth this morning and that the baby’s name is Zuma, but that they weren’t sure about the gender of the newborn. I assumed it was a girl given the name. It turns out that it’s a boy named Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale.

I am tepid on the name Zuma for a little girl, but it seems kind of off for a boy. That name sounds like one of those jagged word clouds that would pop up during a fight on the old Batman TV show. It’s an onomatopia, not a name, but it’s kind of cute and not stigmatizing. There are certainly worse celebrity baby names. I wasn’t fond of “Birdie,” either, but many of you pointed out that it’s a perfectly common and acceptable name.

According to Think Baby Names, Zuma is a very rare name and is a variant of Zulema, which means peace. Gwen and husband Gavin Rossdale’s first child, Kingston, two, is thought to be named after the capital of Jamaica, which may have been where he was conceived.

Congratulations to Gavin and Gwen on their second child!

Gwen Stefani finally about to give birth

Singer Gwen Stefani has seemingly been pregnant forever, but reports are surfacing that she has been admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA to give birth via C-section.

It’s D-day — as in delivery day — for Gwen Stefani! The singer checked into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and is scheduled to give birth via C-section at 10 a.m. PT. This will be the second child for Gwen, 38, and her husband, Gavin Rossdale — and it’s in the same hospital where she gave birth to son Kingston, 2. “Gwen’s so excited to have this baby because she gained a lot of weight during this pregnancy,” her pal reveals to In Touch. “She is ready to meet her new baby and get her body back.”

[From InTouch Weekly]

I’ve actually been really excited about this baby. Gwen is my age and it makes me happy whenever I see someone of so-called “advanced maternal age” (yes, that is the actual term my doctor used!) have a healthy, normal pregnancy. It’s obvious that Gwen loves being a mother. Little Kingston is so cute and cool, so I’m sure the new baby will be equally awesome. I kind of hope, for Gwen’s sake, it’s a little girl. I’m sure she is dying to play dolls and dress-up.

Gwen Stefani isn’t scared of weight gain anymore

Gwen Stefani has talked many times about her weight, and how she really has to work at keeping thin. Which is my favorite celebrity statement to read. Nothing makes me more furious than reading that a celeb lost the baby weight running around after their new child, because I’ve discovered something – babies can’t move!

Gwen says the time has come to relax when it comes to her fitness regime.

She says, “At school, I remember thinking that I wished I could like a girl that was so skinny and got to eat whatever she wanted. I always had to exercise. My weight fluctuated and I got chubby again in 11th grade – at like 16 – and then I was like, ‘You know what? I’ve had enough of this up and down thing!’”

“So I got on the swim team and I was more determined not to be that chubby girl any more. Ever since then I’ve been able to control it, but it sucks. Nowadays I just try to realize how stupid it is, because nobody cares – except me!”

Hollyscoop

Gwen doesn’t care right now because she’s about 8.5 months pregnant. However, she’ll probably weaken in her vow as soon as the baby is born.

Gwen and husband Gavin Rossdale are expecting their second child any day.

Gwen and Gvain are shown out in London on 7/1/08, thanks to WENN.

Celebrity Memorial Day photos including Gwen Stefani and Kate Beckinsale

Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale, and Kate Beckinsale were spotted on the beach in Malibu for Memorial Day yesterday. They played on the sand with their children and looked like they were enjoying the day. On the East Coast Tim Robbins played hockey in Greenwich Village, NY. He is likely out with one or both of his sons with longterm partner Susan Sarandon, Jack, 19, and Miles, 16.

Pregnant Gwen Stefani, 38, her husband of six years Gavin Rossdale 40, and son Kingston, who turned two yesterday are shown below on the beach in Malibu. Just Jared reports that Kingston had a cowboy-themed birthday party on Sunday that included ponies and celebrity guests like Victoria Beckham and her son Cruz, and Joel Madden and his daughter Harlow.

Kate Beckinsale, 34, and daughter Lily, 8 play on the beach in Malibu. Beckinsale manages to run on the sand in big wedge heels.

Tim Robbins, 49, plays hockey in NY.

Celebrity Pregnancy Update

pregnancyheader.jpg
Here’s a quick update on currently pregnant celebrities.

celebritybabiescomingsoon1.jpg
Halle Berry is due any second! I think she is going to have the cutest baby with her model boyfriend Gabriel Aubrey, but will she sell the pictures?

Jamie Lynn Spears – some sources are saying she is due very, very soon, but just doesn’t seem to have a big enough bump to be close to popping. Must be those 16 year old abs of steel.

Cate Blanchett is expecting her third with husband Andrew Upton, and I’m hoping for a girl because she already has two boys. Girls clothes are so much cuter.

celebritybabiessummerbabies.jpg
Nicole Kidman is still pregnant, definitely not drinking alcohol, and is due around June where the baby will be born in Australia.

Are Brangelina having twins? What’s the due date? These two haven’t confirmed or denied reports, but it’s all too obvious they’re having a fifth and maybe a sixth.

Jessica Alba is still flying to promote her film, so she must have quite a few weeks to go. She has declined to confirm a due date.

Matthew McConaughey is expecting a boy with model Camila, and he wants him to like beer. Enough to name the boy after Budweiser. He probably won’t wear a shirt either.

Gwen Stefani is expecting her next child with hubby Gavin Rossdale, and had a great time practicing baby making.

celebritybabiesjustannounced1.jpg
These babies will start popping out (if only it was that easy) in September

Kimora Lee Simmons just announced her pregnancy. A little sibling for her older children from her previous relationship, Ming and Aoki.

Alessandra Ambrosio has also just announced on her official blog that she is expecting, saying “This is a dream come true.”

Matt Damon and his wife Luciana, who have nine year old Alexia from her previous relationship, and Isabella, 20 months, are expecting another.

Lisa-Marie Presley confirmed her pregnancy this week, but don’t you dare suggest she’s carrying some pregnancy weight, you pack of coyotes.

I’m really looking forward to the future, when all these Hollywood babies grow up. Who is going to be a hell raiser? Will they inter-marry and create a species of celebrity offspring like never seen before? Who is going to inherit their parents good looks?

Hopefully the celebrity weeklies have their checkbooks ready, these new additions are going to cost a fortune.

Is Gwen Stefani pregnant? (Update: Confirmed!)

Gwen and Gavin on 11/7/07

Several websites are reporting that singers Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale are expecting their second child. Gwen and Gavin had their first child, son Kingston James McGregor Rossdale on May 26, 2006. Gwen has told many interviewers that she wants to have another child as soon as possible, but that she didn’t want to get pregnant until her tour was over –which she now is.

Gwen Stefani is three months pregnant with her second child. The former No Doubt singer – who already has a 20-month-old son with husband Gavin Rossdale – was thrilled when the pregnancy was confirmed at Los Angeles Cedars Sinai hospital.

A source said: “They found out at the hospital and couldn’t wait to share the news with everyone. They’re absolutely ecstatic, it’s something they both really want.”

Last October, Gwen, 38, revealed she was keen to have more children but wanted to wait until she had finished her tour, which is now over.

She said: “Obviously I’m in a race to have another one but I don’t want to do it while I’m on tour.” The ‘Hollaback Girl’ singer says becoming a mother to Kingston has changed her life for the better. She said: “I love him so much. He is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

[From Female First]

I couldn’t figure out why Gwen said she was in a race to have another kid, and then I realized that she’s 38. That’s by no means old, but I thought she was around 30 – she looks amazing! Last week it was widely reported that Gwen and Gavin, may be moving to the UK since Gavin, who’s British, wants to promote his solo album there. Supposedly the whole family loves London – if Gwen is indeed pregnant, she may end up giving birth in the U.K.

Update: People just reported that Douglas Rossdale, Gavin’s father, confirmed Gwen’s pregnancy.

“They and the whole family are delighted,” Douglas Rossdale tells PEOPLE exclusively.

Good Celebrity: Gwen Stefani Helps Fire Victims

Gwen Stefani is just as sweet as pie, her baby Kingston is so cute, and so is her husband Gavin Rossdale, and her album is one of the biggest sellers on iTunes. She seems to have it all. So it’s great that she’s sharing it all by starting a scholarship fund for students who have lost their homes or jobs in wildfires.

Pop singer Gwen Stefani has donated $US166,000 from her local concert to provide scholarships for students who lost their homes in San Diego’s recent wildfires.

Proceeds from her October 30 concert in San Diego went to The San Diego Foundation’s fire relief fund.

“When I heard about the devastation of the fires, at first I felt I should cancel my show out of respect. But then it occurred to me there might be a more useful solution,” the 38-year-old singer said in a recent statement.

Sydney Morning Herald

$166,000 from one concert performance? Wow.

This is a really good way to spend your money Gwen. I know that students that have lost their houses might like more basic essentials, like a bed or food, but missing out on going to college would be absolutely devastating. You’d feel like you couldn’t move forward from the tragedy of losing your home or job and would probably spiral into depression.

Other celebrities to help out after the October fires include Linkin Park who organised a celebrity momento auction on eBay, and L.A. Galaxy soccer club (featuring David Beckham) organised an exhibition game against Hollywood United F.C.

In other Gwen news, hubby Gavin Rossdale has come out and said that little Kingston is his “greatest triumph”, and that he and Gwen aren’t too bothered by paprazzi.

Rossdale and Stefani, 38, have been able to maintain a relatively normal family life without shying away from the spotlight. “If we were going to be followed by paparazzi, it doesn’t mean we would leave him home … we don’t take life too seriously,” he says. Adding, in response to a question about giving Kingston a sibling, “We’ll see what happens.”

People

This isn’t the first time that Gwen and Gavin have said they plan on having more children, in August Gwen told InStyle magazine that she “can’t wait to get pregnant again.”

The Hottest Pregnant Women Ever

Maxim magazine has released a list of the ‘Hottest Pregnant Women, Ever’. Which seems a big call as, in order for the species to continue, women have to keep on making babies. Rather adorably, my husband emailed me this list, saying I should be on it. This was very sweet, particularly since I spent my whole pregnancy with bloodshot eyes from vomiting. Although I do wonder why the Maxim webpage isn’t blocked, what is he doing at work looking at this?

The Hottest Pregnant Women, Ever
1. Halle Berry
2. Christina Aguilera
3. Heidi Klum
4. Brooke Burke
5. Gwen Stefani
6. Angelina Jolie
7. Naomi Watts
8. Jaime Pressley
9. Monica Bellucci

[From Maxim]

Looking at the pictures, I’m guessing that most of these women spent their pregnancies with a personal stylist maintaining their sexiness, which is maybe how it should be for all pregnant women’s self esteem. Could we get some kind of government assistance for that?

Halle Berry is shown on 10/25/07 at the Things We Lost in the Fire premiere, thanks to Splash. Christina Aguilera is shown at the launch of Kitson men on 11/12/07. Heidi Klum is shown at the Emmy Awards on 8/28/06. Brooke Burke is shown at the Enchanted premiere on 11/17/07. Gwen Stefani is shown on 5/27/06. Angelina Jolie in Paris photos are from late May, 2006. Naomi Watts is shown at the opening of an Escada boutique in early May, 2007. Jamie Pressly is shown on 1/28/07 at the SAG Awards. Thanks to WENN, Splash and PRPhotos for these pictures.

Worst and Best Dressed List Released

People magazine has released their annual best dressed list, ahead of the best dressed issue of their magazine. Then again, with a stylist in tow it’s easy to gain best dressed kudos, so the worst dressed is probably more interesting! I wish that list was longer.

Best Dressed 2007

Beyoncé Knowles – The Showstopper
Cameron Diaz – The Legs
Katie Holmes – The Classic
Penélope Cruz – The Continental
Jessica Biel – The All-American
Drew Barrymore – The Chameleon
Jennifer Lopez – The Glamour Girl
Reese Witherspoon – The Celeb Next Door
Gwen Stefani – The Trendsetter
Ali Larter – The Newcomer

Best Dressed Men

David Beckham
George Clooney
Johnny Depp
Terrence Howard
Brad Pitt

Best Dressed Couples

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt
Gabriel Aubry & Halle Berry
Gwen Stefani & Gavin Rossdale
Tony Parker & Eva Longoria

World’s Worst Dresser

Eva Green

Most Shocking Fashion Moments

Britney Spears shaves her head
Sanjaya Malakar’s faux-hawk
Kidnapped British sailors in oversized Iranian suits
Sen. Hillary Clinton’s cleavage
Naomi Campbell’s dress-up for community service
Paris Hilton’s get-out-of-jail get-up

Just Plain Wrong

Sienna Miller in black tights
Avril Lavigne’s combat boots & pink frilly dress

New York Daily News

Why have best dressed men lists? Even the most stylish man just tends to walk around in either a tuxedo or a t-shirt. There’s not much complicated about men’s dressing, why not have best punk rocker style for say, Pete Wentz? Or Best male use of make up, which would probably also be won by Pete Wentz.

I’m also confused about the criteria: Avril Lavinge’s lace dress and combat boots is a style no-no, but Lily Allen’s signature look is a dress and hi-top sneakers (Lily is mentioned in a British best dressed section of the magazine). Aren’t these just different versions of the same look? And none of the women on the best dressed list are cleavage shy, but it’s not okay for Hilary Clinton to show off her assets?

World’s Worst Dresser Eva Green is shown at the Casino Royale world premiere on 11/14/06 and the BAFTA awards on 2/11/07. (PRPhotos)

World’s Best Dressed Woman Beyonce Knowles is shown at the VMAs, at the opening of Jay-Z’s 40-40 club in Vegas on 9/6/07 and at the launch of Emporio Armani Diamonds Fragrance on 8/16/07. (PRPhotos)

Gwen Stefani covers up in Malaysia; calls it a “major sacrifice”

wenn1492703wm.jpg

I wouldn’t call Gwen Stefani’s clothing trashy on any given day. Unusual, sometimes bizarre, perhaps, but she’s not constantly baring her nipples or anything. So I guess by American standards she’s pretty much the norm – not conservative, but not slutty, either. Well before performing in Muslim-majority Malaysia this past weekend, Gwen was faced with quite a backlash over her clothing, and had to agree to cover up.

“Stefani had promised to dress modestly after the 10,000-member National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students charged that her skimpy outfits and cheeky performances clashed with Islamic values. The opposition Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party also accused her of promoting promiscuity and corrupting the country’s youth.

“In an interview with Galaxie, a local entertainment magazine, Stefani said she had made many changes for Malaysia, calling it a “major sacrifice.”

“’I’ve been in the music industry for 20 years and this is the first time that I’m facing opposition from people who have misunderstood me,’ she was quoted as saying. ‘I’m not a bad girl,’ she said.”

“Media photographers weren’t allowed to take pictures for copyright reasons, and those attending the show had to leave their cameras outside. Most fans in the stadium said protesters had gone overboard with their criticism.

“‘I think they were making a big ho-ha for no reason. Even the local artists, they dress even much worse, much more indecent,’ said Denise Chan, a 15-year-old ethnic Chinese. Fans also said Stefani had shown respect for Malaysia’s cultural values. ‘All international artists have to dress down a bit to respect our religion,’ said Linda Yusof, 33, a Malay Muslim.

“Under government guidelines, a female artist must be covered from the top of her chest, including shoulders, to her knees. No jumping, shouting or throwing of objects onstage or at the audience is allowed. Performers also cannot hug or kiss, and their clothes must not have obscene or drug-related images or messages.

“Ethnic Malay Muslims form about 60% of Malaysia’s population of 26 million, with ethnic Chinese, who are Christians and Buddhists, making up 25%. Ethnic Indians, most of them Hindus, are about 10%”

[From USA Today]

I’m a big “When in Rome” type, so I’m glad Gwen was respectful of local customs. I don’t quite understand why it was a “major sacrifice.” It was a change. But then again I’m not a singer; maybe she felt it compromised her artistry or something. It also doesn’t really sound like she was necessarily “misunderstood.” Her clothing isn’t raunchy for America, but it is for Malaysia. It’s not culturally appropriate, and every country has different levels of tolerance. It sounds like she was pretty good about it if she dressed more conservatively than local performers. I really wish photographs had been released, I’m interested to see what she came up with.

Picture note by JayBird: Header image of Gwen performing live on her Sweet Escape at Acer Arena in Sydney. Does anyone else think she looks like the Peculiar Purple Pieman of Porcupine Peak? Thanks to WENN for the photos.
