Claire Danes gave birth to baby boy Cyrus Christopher Michael Dancy

Aw! Claire Danes has welcomed her first child just one day after the season finale of her hit show, Homeland. Claire and cute English husband Hugh Dancy welcomed a baby boy on Monday, and they just announced it yesterday. Claire’s pregnancy became increasingly obvious during the last part of Homeland’s season 2 – you could really tell that the directors were shooting around some of Claire’s angles, and her face really looked fuller in the last episodes. Still, I’m kind of surprised that she gave birth so soon! I didn’t think she was due for another month or so.

It will be a very happy holiday for Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy!

The Homeland star, 33, and her actor husband welcomed their first child, son Cyrus Michael Christopher Dancy, on Monday, Dec. 17, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

Since confirming her pregnancy in July, Danes has stayed mostly mum on the subject of baby — including keeping the sex a secret — but tells PEOPLE in its new year-end double issue that she looks forward to “getting to know our new Dancy” over the break.

Danes, who won an Emmy in September for her role as bipolar CIA-agent Carrie Matheson on the hit Showtime drama, wed Dancy, 37, in a private ceremony in France in 2009.

[From People]

I was hoping they would have a girl (it just seems like it would be a daughter, right?), but I’m sure they’re just happy that they got a healthy baby, regardless of gender. Thoughts on the name Cyrus Michael Christopher? I feel like those are probably family names… yeah, her dad’s name is Christopher. But Hugh’s dad’s name is Jonathan? Huh. So… Cyrus Dancy. Cy Dancy? Let’s face, all boys’ names were going to sound slightly awkward with the last name “Dancy”. Yet another reason I was hoping it would be a girl! Anyway, congrats to Claire and Hugh and little Cyrus!

……………

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS for Season 2 of Homeland… I’ve been thinking about the finale of Homeland all week, and I’ve also indulged in some blog-cheating to read some other conspiracy theories, and I’ve found one that I really like – go here if you want to have your world crushed. I think that conspiracy theory might be The One. I think Brody WAS the bomber after all. I think Carrie got played. AGAIN. And not just her – Quinn got played too. And that theory means that… Estes was right all along?!!? Also, this isn’t so much a spoiler as just an assessment of the TV awards season – I think Claire Danes is going to sweep all of the major awards for her work on Season 2… but Damian Lewis might be a harder sell, because of his (maybe purposefully?) uneven performance.

Claire Danes & Hugh Dancy are expecting their first child: yay!

My first reaction upon hearing the happy news that Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy are expecting their first child: “OMG, Will this affect Homeland?!?!?” Because, yes, I LOVE that show and if you watched the first season you know that it would be very wrong and weird to introduce a pregnancy for Claire’s character. Of course, it could happen. OMG IS IT BRODY’S?!?!?! No, I won’t go there. GAH! I can’t wait for the second season of Homeland. Those bitches are making us wait until September 30 for the second season. I don’t know if they’ve finished filming the season yet? It could be that Claire just announced the news as Homeland wrapped? Perhaps.

Her so-called life just got a little happier! Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy are expecting their first child, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

“There’s definitely a chance, no plans yet,” the Homeland star, 33, told PEOPLE last fall when asked if a baby could be on the way shortly. “But yeah, that’d be fun.”

Danes, who won a Golden Globe in January, wed Hannibal star Dancy, 37, in a private ceremony in France in 2009.

While there was no official comment from Homeland‘s production company, Fox 21, a spokesman says that Danes’ pregnancy is not expected to impact the production of season two — which premieres on Showtime Sept. 30 — in any way.

Weird sidenote: I’ve been getting strange vibes from Claire and Hugh over the past year or so. Yes, he’s British and rather posh and fancy, so maybe it’s just a cultural thing, but I really thought they were on the verge of splitting. That was the vibe I was getting, so I didn’t expect this. I think it’s unfair to assume that this is a Band-Aid Baby, though. I don’t really know what’s going on in their marriage. Maybe they’re fine. Hopefully they’re all good. He’s in an acclaimed and award-winning Broadway play (Venus In Fur) and she’s getting nominated for every award out there for her ballsy and amazing performance on Homeland. Maybe they’re just two of the best actors out there, procreating quietly. Congrats!!

Claire Danes in hot pink Narciso Rodriguez: gorgeous or blah?

Claire Danes

Claire Danes was on hand at the Tribeca Film Festival for last night premiere of Hysteria, which stars her husband Hugh Dancy as Mortimer Granville, the doctor who invented the modern electromechanical vibrator in 1880 (or so). Maggie Gyllenhaal, who stars in the film, was not present because, presumably, she’s getting some much needed rest while heavily pregnant with her second child. So we’ll have to get our female fashion fix with Claire, who wore a hot pink and black shift-type Narciso Rodriguez dress, which was slightly daring in its color choice but quite strange in the boob area. The top part of the dress squishes Claire’s girls and makes her look really flat, which she totally isn’t. I think this look is supposed to be “edgy,” but Claire pulled off that vibe a lot better in last year’s metallic blue Oscar de la Renta gown. She still looks quote lovely though even if her eye makeup is a bit too severe.

Hugh Dancy was there too, of course! He and Claire walked the red carpet separately — I guess because it’s his film, and Claire’s pink dress would’ve distracted from the red carpet’s rightful focus. Maybe. All I know is that Hugh looks like a British dreamboat.

Hugh Dancy

Christy Turlington and Edward Burns were in attendance as well and dressed down for the event. Ed looks like he’s totally over this and would rather be a few steps away in his own Tribeca apartment. Can’t say I blame him.

Elizabeth Olsen in Alexander McQueen at NYFF: is she tweaked or natural?

wenn3554420

Elizabeth “Lizzie” Olsen posed on the red carpet for the New York Film Festival premiere of Martha Marcy May Marlene, for which she’s already getting Oscar buzz for her performance as a young woman struggling to overcome her damaging experiences with a cult. Lizzie was wearing an Alexander McQueen dress and shoes to match, and I think the look is … alright, but I’m not crazy about the really thick, gold belt. Honestly, I’d like to see her wearing something from The Row. Of course, Lizzie probably wants to fully achieve success on her own and not lend the appearance of relying on Mary-Kate and Ashley to help her get there, but I think that wearing their clothing on the red carpet would be a nice show of Olsen solidarity. It would also ward off those persistent rumors of sibling rivalry that the sisters have already attempted to debunk.

Also in attendance at the premiere were John Hawkes, Hugh Dancy, and Sean Durkin. Wouldn’t you like to be in that sandwich?

wenn3554700

Now onto the obvious part of this story, which is Elizabeth’s tweaked-looking nose, which was already looking pretty sketchy in her recent Nylon cover shoot, where it was a question of whether Photoshop was a big contributor in said wonkiness. Here, her nose still doesn’t look natural at all, right? Also, Kaiser and I both think that Lizzie’s face looks rather tweaked in general here. It’s possible that the severely pulled-back bun is a contributing factor, for the Croydon facelift hairstyle rarely flatters anyone:

wenn3554724

wenn3554741

Certainly, Lizzie’s nose looks much more “normal” when she smiles. In fact, she appears to be a completely different person in this photo:

wenn3554415

Ultimately, it’s really difficult to tell whether Lizzie has gone under the knife. She’s only 22-years-old, and it looks like she’s had the same nose for at least the past few years. Here she is in March 2009:

olsen2009

And here’s Elizabeth in May 2007 with the same nose she has today. It’s highly possible that she was just born with an immensely narrow, pinched-looking nose, right? Or maybe she just got a really early nose job.

Claire Danes on falling for Billy Crudup: it was a choice made with integrity

bbcover-september-2009

Last week, Jaybird covered an early excerpt from Claire Danes’ interview with BlackBook Magazine. The excerpt seemed to show Claire in an unpleasant light as she waxed philosophical about how “we just can’t shake monogamy… It definitely demands a kind of rigor and discipline and selflessness.” Coming from the young woman who dumped Ben Lee to have an affair/relationship with Billy Crudup (who was with the then-seven-months pregnant Mary Louise Parker) and then dump/cheat on Billy for current squeeze/fiancée Hugh Dancy, well, it all seemed a bit rich. And by “rich” I mean “hypocritical asinine bullsh-t”. It gets worse, though. Because now the complete interview is out, and Claire seems so far stuck up her own ass, she’s giving Dame Gwyneth Paltrow a run for her goopiness.

Claire answers questions about her relationship with Billy Crudup, and she uses words like “choice” and “integrity”. She whines about how the controversy that relationship caused was “unavoidable”. As in, she couldn’t avoid his wang? When she tries to explain how she feels knowing Hugh Dancy is The One, she says “I can apply myself in other ways now. I have more time and energy to get sh-t done.” Because her schedule was so grueling what with all the homewrecking? What? Too much? Here’s more from the interview:

Anyone versed in tabloid culture knows the strength of will she had to summon to endure the scrutiny she came under when Billy Crudup left a seven-months pregnant Mary-Louise Parker for Danes. The pair began dating after they met on the set of 2004’s Stage Beauty. “That was a choice I made to fall in love. It’s unpleasant to be cast in such an unflattering role, but I just had to remain steadfast,” she recalls, her body language going into self-protection mode with an arm cradling her hunched-over frame and crossed legs.

“I was living with the same kind of integrity that I had always lived with. As a public person you’re serving a certain function, and you’re a canvas for people to project their own hopes and fears onto, so you do have to perform a kind of mental trick and distance yourself from it. But there are times of weakness in which you wonder if what they wrote is relevant to you or representative of you.”

How much of that has stayed with her? “Not very much. I never really took too much of it on. It’s nice not to be ridiculed—nobody wants that—but it’s also unavoidable. Everyone gets the stick.” But all the rumors now seem a distant memory for Danes, who is set to wed British actor Hugh Dancy, whom she met on the set of Evening in 2006. The pair will exchange their vows in mid-September in a ceremony to be held in France.

While she’s had several serious relationships in the past—she dated Australian indie-pop star Ben Lee for six years and was with Crudup for two, just prior to Dancy—marriage, she says, was never something for which she yearned. “I’ve always wanted to be in a partnership, I’ve always wanted to have that kind of intimacy and collaborate with someone in such a deep way. But I think that can be achieved in a lot of ways. I was talking to my friend recently about monogamy—is it feasible, is it realistic? I resolved that there isn’t really a better model. We just can’t shake monogamy. It definitely demands a kind of rigor and discipline and selflessness. But it’s also fun.”

Particularly when you’ve got a former Burberry model in your bed. “He’s such a cutie patootie,” she says about her fiancé, a twinkle in her bright green eyes. “Sometimes I forget just how good-looking he is.”

When asked how she knew Dancy was the one, Danes hesitates. “I’m going into dangerous territory,” she says, and then relents, proceeding with caution. “While relationships are work, this just didn’t feel like it. It’s the kind of work that feels energizing rather than enervating.”

“There’s that pledge, and people talk about it being claustrophobic but I find it the opposite. I find it very freeing to know that, okay, it takes constant nurturing and attention, but I can also stop looking for the one—that’s established. I can apply myself in other ways now. I have more time and energy to get sh-t done.”

For her wedding day, she turned to Narciso Rodriguez. She describes the process as “surprisingly emotional. I’ve known Narciso since I was 16, and he’s made a lot of dresses with—and for—me. So it’s really special that this time it’s the dress.”

[From BlackBook Magazine]

What’s strange is that the part that pissed me off the most was when she describes asking renowned fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez to make her wedding dress. Claire says: “He’s made a lot of dresses with—and for—me.” With you? Bitch, please. He made dresses for you, and you didn’t even look that good in them. While I had always been on Team Mary Louise Parker, I had generally given Claire a pass, favoring to just hate on Billy Crudup. But now I get it. Claire is just as bad. And then some.

Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy are engaged

wenn2067296
Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy have become engaged. Danes, 29, has been dating the British actor for more than a year, reports People Magazine, but if my memory serves, I think it’s been closer to two years. After “breaking up” (perhaps the term “homewrecking” applies?) Billy Crudup and a very pregnant Mary-Louise Parker in 2004, Danes and Crudup dated for about three years.

Allegedly, Danes and Crudup broke up towards the end of 2006, which is around the time she met Hugh Dancy. She and Dancy met while filming the film Evening. Danes confirmed her relationship with Dancy the summer of 2007. So, yeah, I’m probably right and People’s not – they’ve been together closer to two years.

Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy will be getting married, a rep for the pair confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

Danes, 29, and Dancy, 33, met while filming Evening in Newport, R.I., and had been dating for more than a year.

The couple recently stepped out at the Screen Actors Guild and Directors Guild awards in Los Angeles.

From People Magazine

Ordinarily, I would make a bad joke about the name “Hugh Dancy”, but I really like the guy. I saw him first in The Jane Austen Book Club, and he is really cute. The couple currently lives in New York, where they are likely to stay. I just looked up Dancy’s filmography, and I am surprised to learn he was in Basic Instinct 2! Yikes. He’s also the love interest in that horrible-looking film Confessions of a Shopaholic, probably one of the worst-timed film releases in history. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Glamour Women of the Year Awards

The stars were out at Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards at Avery Fischer Hall in NY City last night. Jennifer Garner was accompanied by her husband, Ben Affleck, to accept her award as “The Icon Next Door.”

Senator John Edward’s wife, Elizabeth Edwards, was named “The Role Model,” and her award was presented by her children, Cate, Emma Claire and Jack. Elizabeth Edwards is a breast cancer survivor and is currently fighting stage four breast cancer that has spread to a spot on her rib. She is being treated with anti-estrogen drugs.

Young Abigail Breslin was named “The American Girl,” and famed author Toni Morrison was given a lifetime achievement award titled “The Voice of Our Time.”

Garner has an interview with Glamour in which she talks about balancing motherhood with her career and admits that she is a “goody-goody,” but is not immune to an occasional diva moment. She also says that she doesn’t pose on the red carpet with her husband Ben because she tries to avoid the needless speculation that goes along with that:

GLAMOUR: Your press is impeccable. Your fans adore you. Do you have a dark side, or are you a goody-goody?

JENNIFER GARNER: You totally called me out. I am a bit of a goody-goody. Not that there aren’t times when I think, I was kind of an asshole today. I work in a world in which people are really catered to; someone will come up to me and say, “Is it OK if this person’s makeup is done before yours for the premiere?” Right now Ben’s in Africa studying malaria and visiting slums with a lack of potable water and maternity wards where many women have HIV. So would I really put my energy into worrying that I’m second to get my makeup done? When you think about the bigger picture, it’s hard to not have some perspective.

GLAMOUR: Have you managed to find that balance for yourself?

JG: I’m trying to, but it’s hard: I just had a year off where I put every spoonful of food into [Violet’s] mouth. Now I’m working and though I’m usually with her more hours than not, some days I just can’t be. That’s hard for me, and for the first time, my daughter. Luckily my husband is a true partner, and he picks up where I leave off.

GLAMOUR: Is being in Hollywood hard on a relationship?

JG: We’ve worked really hard not to be one of those couples who are constantly in the limelight. In the past we’ve both been the kind of people who go along with things—if you’re supposed to be photographed together, you don’t question it. But how does that help your relationship? So now we refuse to walk the red carpet together: It’s a way of not condoning the attention. Plus, it just feels silly to be in that situation with him: Ben was nominated for a Golden Globe [for 2006’s Hollywoodland]. I remember being photographed next to him and thinking, This is ridiculous. You’re not some actor; you’re my husband.

[From Glamour.com]

Garner also talked about the causes she’s involved with, which include Hurricane Katrina victims and the Children’s Defense Fund.

As for whether nearly two-year-old Violet will have a career in show business, Garner doesn’t rule it out but says that she won’t allow her to get her start in it as a child.

Like Julia Roberts, Garner says she wants to help Britney Spears, and that she “wanted to go backstage and mother her” after her performance at the VMAs.

Garner said she doesn’t wear her Alias costumes for husband Ben at home, because that stuff isn’t that important to him since he doesn’t seem to notice how she looks. She said his lack of attention to her appearance is annoying when she’s dolled up for an event, because she wants to get him to comment on it, but that it usually works in her favor because “most of the time I’m a schlep.”

As for whether she’ll have another child, Garner says she will but that she’s not pregnant or trying yet.

Garner’s hero is her sister, who is “a mom and an accountant for the state of West Virginia.” She says that her sister is “able to juggle a job, kids, volunteer work and church, and she still manages to cook dinner every night without feeling bogged down.” If she’s anything like Jen, she probably does it all with a smile while looking fabulous.

Other women honored at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards include Dr. Victoria Hale, Donna Karan, Lara Logan, Lorena Ochoa, Mariane Pearl, Nancy Pelosi, Shonda Rhimes, and Alice Waters. The non-celebrity woman who was honored was Laura Crandall, a 39 year-old woman who founded the Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) Program after losing her 15 month-old daughter to unknown causes.

Thanks to PRPhotos for these pictures of the event. Attendees that were not yet mentioned and are pictured include Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany, Hugh Dancy and Claire Danes, Eric Dane, Portia Di Rossi, Taye Diggs, Iman, Rashida Jones, Fran Lebowitz, James Pickens, Brooke Shields, Diane Sawyer, and Jamie-Lynn Sigler.
