Jack Osbourne is a street hero

Jack Osbourne, youngest child of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, was shopping London’s Marylebone High Street on Saturday when he saw a man snatch a woman’s purse.  Before you could say “Perfect PR Op” the recently slimmed down Osbourne instantly put his workouts into action and took off after the mugger.  Osbourne caught the man, pinned him on the ground, and with the help of a couple other people, held him there until the police arrived.

The 14-stone fitness fanatic and martial arts fan told the News of the World: “I could see the girl was in trouble, it just felt like the natural thing to do. I’m glad it turned out okay.”

A source said of the host of ITV2’s Adrenaline Junkie: “He was amazing. He ran after the mugger like a man possessed—a real hero.

“It happened so quickly. But Jack spotted it, easily beat him in the race over 20 metres and pushed him to the ground. Whatever technique he used meant the robber couldn’t escape.

“The girl was very grateful, but Jack was very modest.”

[From News of the World]

It would appear Jack could be turning into a pretty decent guy.  He’s working hard on Adrenaline Junkie, staying out of trouble, getting healthy and fit and now, rescuing damsels in distress in the streets of London.  I’m glad to see it because I always thought he was worse than Kelly on The Osbournes.  His general attitude seemed more entitled while Kelly’s was rebellious, kind of like the difference between Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie the first season of The Simple Life.

Jack must have taken his reality stint on Armed and Famous alot more seriously than one would have thought.  Osbourne went through police training alongside Eric Estrada, LaToya Jackson, WWE’s Trish Stratus and Wee Man of Jackass in the flop reality show.  The show was a disaster and didn’t even last a season, but now they can say something good came of it.  Now if LaToya would just contribute to society it might all be worth it.

Jack Osbourne says Ozzy is “not an idiot”

I remember one of the first things I learned in philosophy class was how to write guarded statements in papers so it was harder to argue with your idea. Making sure not to make definitive statements, and using rejoinders like “often”, etc. I found this annoying as hell because as a result you never actually said anything or stood for anything. But celebs – and anyone who is quoted a lot – could learn a lot from the guarded statement idea.

Say your dad is Ozzy Osbourne. And you give a nice long interview, and at one point say, “My dad is not an idiot.” That would have been a great time to preface it with, “generally,” or “for the most part,” or even “with the exception of when he’s on a lot of drugs.” Because when your dad is Ozzy Osbourne, making such a definitive statement is really asking for people to argue with you, and hunt around YouTube for a few minutes to prove exactly why you dad IS an idiot.

Jack Osbourne wants to set the record straight about his famous father. And that means taking a few swipes at the MTV reality show that put his family back on the map. “I think The Osbournes, to a degree, tarnished the public’s perception of my dad as a bit of a senile, funny, bumbling guy,” Jack tells Rolling Stone magazine. “Yeah, my dad can be that guy, but it’s not [all of] him.” Now Jack is trying to rejuvenate his dad’s rocker legacy. He has recruited his own pals and his dad’s former bandmates to contribute to a documentary he began shooting in January.

The result, he told the music mag, will be a kind of filmic memoir. The Black Sabbath frontman is dyslexic and “refused to do a book,” Jack adds. “So this is more like a talking book, a really thorough autobiography.” And despite their close family bonds, Jack insists the film won’t be a puff piece.

“My dad’s not an idiot – he’s nothing short of a genius, in my opinion,” he explains. “He does have huge flaws, and we’re trying to really paint an honest picture of that.”

[From People]

To Jack’s credit he did point out that Ozzy can be bumbling. But he really shouldn’t have allowed so much as a two second pause to breathe between that and the [but] “he’s not an idiot,” quotation. In fact just to be safe, I’d say something like, “For the most part, generally, he’s more often than not not a complete idiot most of the time.” Yeah it’s a grammarian’s worst nightmare. But it’s really, really safe. I kid of course.

Jack’s documentary sounds like it could be pretty interesting. While both he and sister Kelly spent some of their most struggle-filled, least-attractive years on television (everyone goes through that stuff at their age, they just did it on MTV), they both seem to be slowly growing into reasonably healthy adults. Jack in particular. It’ll be interesting to see what perspective he brings to his “talking book,” and see to what extent Ozzy’s problems were exacerbated by being over medicated by his doctor like the family has long claimed.

Jack Osbourne and other minor celebrities locked up in jail for TV show

I’ve often made idle threats about wanting to throw certain celebrities in jail. Mostly Paris Hilton (again) and Lindsay Lohan. But I’d probably stick most of them in there for a couple days if given the chance. Just to give them a bit of perspective. Apparently my threats weren’t so idle after all – a British reality show is doing just that with several minor celebs, most notably Jack Osbourne.

Celebrities have put themselves behind bars for the latest reality TV show. Linford Christie, Jack Osbourne and Donal MacIntyre experienced life as inmates in one of the “world’s harshest prisons” for the new series. The show, entitled Prisoner: X, also features I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! stars Joe Pasquale and Marc Bannerman, actor Will Mellor, author Toby Young and former Coronation Street actress Debra Stephenson.

Sharon Osbourne’s 22-year-old son was extracted from his cell and strip searched in Shelby County Jail, Memphis, while Young, the British author of How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, requested a stab vest in Westville Prison, South Africa, after fearing for his own life. Bannerman is locked up in Germany, and Stephenson in the US in the Virgin1 series - but none of the celebrities endure life in a British jail. A spokeswoman for the show said she did not know whether that was because conditions in British prisons were not harsh enough.

Daniela Neumann, Virgin1’s director of programming, said: “For the first time ever we will genuinely see these celebrities eat, sleep and shower in the most disgusting prisons in the world. These are personal and intimate journeys for people who are used to soft cotton sheets, fine wine, gourmet food and toilet paper - never has the phrase ‘being out of your comfort zone’ been more true.”

[From the Press Association]

My first question was how in the world the producers got the prison wardens to agree to this in the first place. My second question was how they managed to keep the “celebrities” safe. However aside from Jack Osbourne, I’ve never heard of any of the rest of them. They’re probably bigger stars in the UK, but since none of them were in British jails I’m guessing their identities weren’t that hard to keep secret… you know, until the cameras started following them around. Obviously the other inmates knew what was going on since it’s televised.

It is definitely an interesting experiment, and one of the few reality shows I’d ever be interested in watching. The idea of any Osbourne behind bars is intriguingly hard to resist, even though they locked up the least annoying one.

Osbournes get Variety show on FOX

This morning we covered the story that Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are pitching their own variety show, which they envision as a modern version of Sonny and Cher’s show. Now comes news that the Osbournes have signed a deal with FOX for a six episode variety show starring Sharon and Ozzy and their two more publicity-seeking children, Jack and Kelly. Variety reports that it will be a throwback to 70s variety shows like Sonny and Cher and Donny and Marie. It will include audience participation skits, comedy, and gameshow-type elements. This could either be a mish mash or they might be able to pull it off if it’s well produced. It will be produced by James Sunderland, who is an executive producer on the show Sharon is a judge for, “America’s Got Talent,” and it’s planned for a Christmastime release:

Mike Darnell, Fox’s prexy of alternative programming, envisions the show as something of a throwback to the heyday of variety skeins such as CBS’ 1970s staple “The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour” and ABC’s “Donny and Marie.”

The plan is to blend musical perfs by the Osbournes and others with comedy sketches as well as gameshow, audience participation and out-of-studio taped elements. One idea being kicked around is for a segment dubbed “The Osbournes Meet the Osbournes,” in which Ozzy and Co. spend time with another Osbourne clan, Darnell said.

“We’ve been talking about how to renew the variety show concept and make it feel new for years now,” Darnell said. Deal came together quickly in the past two weeks as Fremantle circulated a DVD to major nets with comedy bits featuring the family and other prototype elements. Multiple nets bid on the show, but it landed at Fox in part because Sharon Osbourne and Darnell hit it off and had similar visions for the show.

Darnell hopes to launch the series, which will be shot in Los Angeles, with a Christmas special. The emphasis on music and performance would seem to make the show a natural companion for “American Idol,” but Darnell said any skedding talk was premature.

Eugene Young, chief creative officer for FremantleMedia North America, said the show would “tap into what the Osbournes do best, which is be themselves.”

Some segments will include the former Black Sabbath frontman “skewering pop culture,” while others will “tap into the sibling rivalry” between 23-year-old Kelly and 22-year-old Jack, Young said.

[From Variety via Huffington Post]

I liked Sharon Osbourne’s talk show, and maybe I’m the only one because it was canceled after one season in 2003, but I think she’s fun and can keep the show moving. Ozzy mumbles a lot and is hard to understand, but maybe if he sticks to performing and hanging around he’ll do fine. Kelly is a decent singer and had that “Papa Don’t Preach” cover as well as an album. She also appeared in the London production of musical Chicago.

I would watch one episode of this to give it a try. The Osbournes are going to have to control their swearing though or there’s going to be a lot of bleeping and editing required. That gets old quickly so they hopefully have enough other entertainment to make it worth watching.

Kelly & Jack Osbourne talk addiction: Kelly started at 13, took 100 pills day

spx-015309.jpg
Jack and Kelly Osbourne on 10/21/07. Scroll down to see video of their interview
Jack and Kelly Osbourne were on ABC’s “2020″ last night and talked about their battles with addiction. Jack, 22, says he’s been sober for 5 years and that he still struggles with urges to drink. Kelly, 23, wouldn’t specify how long she’s been sober after three stints in rehab, and says that as soon as she starts to count time that’s when the bad thoughts creep in, telling her it’s ok to get high again.

Kelly was the one who did most of the talking and who seems to be still battling her demons. After watching this I have a lot more respect and sympathy for her. She was very candid about what she’s been through.

Kelly’s early start: Vicodin at 13
Kelly said that she first experimented with drugs at 13 and took Vicodin. She said it silenced all the self conscious thoughts in her head telling her she wasn’t good enough. All the negative coverage of her weight in the media fueled her drug use, she said.

Kelly was usually high on “The Osbournes”
Kelly said that a lot of the screaming and fights you saw on “The Osbournes” were due to all the drugs she was on at the time and that they really heightened her emotions. She said it made her bratty and selfish.

Kelly took 100 pills a day; threw up blood
Kelly admitted that her parents did find a bag of pills that she had with 500 pills in it before she went to rehab, and explained that, “my mom would come into my room every single night and I was throwing up blood, because the Tylenol in the Vicodin was wearing away at my stomach lining.”

Kelly’s low point
She said her low point was waking up to her mom pounding on her back trying to resuscitate her because she had stopped breathing. She had peed the bed and said “At 20 years old, to wake up, by your mother trying to resuscitate you in a bed of your own piss. That is mortifying.”

Jack drank and smoked a lot of pot
Jack said he drank to go along with the crowd and that he used to limit pot-smoking to weekends, but that he was doing it more and more and had no boundaries.

Kelly told a story about how she found him throwing up on the floor and that’s when she realized he was “really f’ed up.”

Jack said he had suicidal thoughts on a daily basis before suicide attempt
After their mom Sharon was diagnosed with cancer, Jack said he struggled with depression and had suicidal thoughts “pretty much on a daily basis.”

Jack attempted suicide with booze and prescription drugs, the narrator explains, and he said “I wasn’t happy when I was drunk or high and I wasn’t happy when I was sober.”

Rehab worked for Jack, didn’t work at first for Kelly
Jack went into rehab after his suicide attempt at 17 and it’s safe to say it worked for him as he says he hasn’t had a drink since.

Kelly said that after she went into Promises rehab for the first time in 2004 she got high the day she got out and that it didn’t help her. “All I did there was buy 30 days of time and learn tricks from other addicts. And get a massage, lay by a pool… I was out of there… that night I was high.”

The narrator explains that Kelly’s third stint in rehab worked for her, and she said “It just clicked. You have to have that realization that you’re never going to win.”

Kelly and Jack’s futures
Both Kelly and Jack are living on their own now. Jack is hosting a reality show in Britain called “Adrenaline Junkies” that features people having adventures, and he said he wouldn’t be doing it if he were still drinking, and that “it’s taught me to live life to the fullest.”

Kelly is hosting “Project Catwalk” in England, which is their version of “Project Runway.”

Kelly always came off as a bit of a spoiled brat to me, and if she was taking handfuls of pills throughout the day you can see how it would radically change her personality. Both Jack and Kelly seem to have come to terms with their addictions and to be living a sober lifestyle now. I admire them for talking about it candidly and not glamorizing what they were going through.

Addiction is a lifelong struggle and maybe their story will help others who are facing similar problems realize that they’re not alone.

Jack Osbourne says DUIs aren’t a big deal

prn-013186.jpg

Living in Hollywood has really gone to Jack Osbourne’s head. Not in the traditional “I think I’m so hot” way – because let’s be honest, he’s Jack Osbourne, how hot could he think he is? But they guy is certainly jaded, and clearly has no concept of what the real world is like. After Mischa Barton’s recent DUI arrest, someone thought it would be a good idea to look up Jack Osbourne and ask what he thinks about the whole debacle.

Jack Osbourne has said he doesn’t think people should be so surprised when celebrities are arrested for drink-driving offences because they’re “not a big deal”.

Speaking in response to Mischa Barton’s arrest last week, Jack explained recently: “Everyone gets DUIs… but you only hear about it when celebrities get them. It is a big deal but it’s not a big deal, just a slap on the wrist.”

[From Fametastic]

You know it’s funny, because I have known a few people who got DUIs. And each and every one of them got their asses into rehab right away, and were guilt-ridden and humiliated. I remember one of them telling me he didn’t think he’d ever be able to find someone who’d be willing to marry him, because a DUI was that horrendous. And I have to tell you, I couldn’t help but agree with him. I mean I know he’ll probably find someone someday, but it sure shrinks the pool, doesn’t it? I would never date someone with any kind of record beyond your run-of-the-mill traffic tickets. Most people do not have DUIs. And those that do seem to inherently understand that they should feel a deep sense of shame. Unless they live in Hollywood. Then it’s a rite of passage, and a sure way to get your name in the papers when no one’s paying attention to you.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving CEO Chuck Hurley responded to Osbourne’s idiotic comments.

“Drunk driving is not a rite of passage but it does seem as though some high profile celebrities in Hollywood and in professional sports think it is…[it] kills about 13,500 people a year and injures thousands of others, even though it is completely preventable,” Hurley said.

[From Pagesix.com]

Given his own struggles with addiction, you would think Jack Osbourne would at least be smart enough to say something a little more responsible. His family members have all struggled with various forms of addiction, and acting like DUIs are commonplace shows that Osbourne doesn’t take his own sobriety very seriously.

Sharon Osbourne And Courtney Love Take Their Fued To The Lawyers

spx-012068.jpg

As we reported earlier, Sharon Osbourne and Courtney love are feuding about who’s fault it is that Jack Osbourne was addicted to drugs. Did Courtney give him drugs? Should former Mother-of-the-Year Sharon have taught him to ‘Just say no’? The fur flies.

“I never did that. I would never give drugs to a teenager. F— you, Sharon - as if I would ever give drugs to a teenager,” Love fired back recently, reported Spinner.com.

Osbourne has thrown another punch, telling the New York Daily News, “I’m glad she doesn’t like me. I only pity her. She’s a virus. I don’t want her anywhere near people I love. The cold, hard fact is she’s a has-been.”

The war started in September when Osbourne told the Daily Mirror:

“I will never have time for Courtney Love. She was the first person to give my son Jack the prescription drug OxyContin. There’s not a shadow of doubt in my mind about that.”

“My dislike towards her is very personal,” Osbourne continued. “I’m not saying Jack wouldn’t have taken it if she hadn’t given it to him, but I’m appalled that an adult mother would give that to a 15-year-old boy. How could she do that to someone else’s child?”

Daily Telegraph

Unfortunately we’re not going to be hearing anymore of this cat fight for a while – at least not until the matter goes to court.

And now Osbourne admits she can no longer talk about her bitter feelings for Love: “It’s kind of got to the point where it’s now in legal hands, so we can’t talk about it, because it’s gone to that stage.”

antiMusic

What is the legal issue here? Is Sharon going to try and prove that Courtney did addict her son, or is Courtney going to sue for defamatory remarks? Is Sharon using the legal excuse as a way of getting out of talking about this issue? Is she going to make Courtney pay for her son’s rehab? Are Courtney and Sharon actually the same person and someone has made the court case up so we can see them in the same room?

I must be great to be the kind of lawyer that represents these petty disputes. You don’t have any moral or ethical issues that you might if, for example, you had to defend a murderer. You can also laugh at your clients silly, petty fight while taking home a paycheck, providing they don’t catch you at it. The only issue I can see is how you might feel about taking money from someone so stupid. It’s kind of like stealing.
