Penelope Cruz will cut you if you ask about Javier Bardem

Penelope Cruz was on The Late Show last night to promote her new film Broken Embraces (review here). I thought she might be on for Nine, but alas, she was not. Anyway, David Letterman was very nice to her at first, asking her about winning her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, and she says she doesn’t remember part of the night, but she remembers sitting in her seat and trying not to have a panic attack. I’m watching part of the interview now… and I have to say something. I actually really, really like Penelope, I think she’s a wonderful actress, but her accent is terribly annoying isn’t it? David even asks her about her accent and being a Spanish actress, and she says she speaks a ton of languages, so God bless. I’m just finding her kind of grating. And I like accents! I love most accents, but hers plucks my last nerve. Argh.

Anyway, David brought the conversation around to her relationship with Javier Bardem. Last month, Penelpe was flashing a big sapphire and diamond ring, and the rumor was that it was an engagement ring. But when David asked about it, Penelope avoided the questions like a champ:

Ever since Penélope Cruz wore a sapphire-and-diamond sparkler on her ring finger at the October premiere of Broken Embraces, buzz has mounted that the actress is engaged to actor Javier Bardem.

It’s a question she just won’t answer – no matter how hard she’s pushed. During her Late Show appearance, airing Tuesday night, David Letterman asked the actress, 35, point-blank if she’s engaged to Bardem, 40. “I don’t feel comfortable talking about my private life in public,” she said, laughing.

Letterman pressed and Cruz continued, “I’ve been here a few times with you, you know I’m tough. One thing I don’t do, I don’t lie about my personal life,” she said. “It’s sacred to me. It’s my life. But I don’t give details about it because I am allergic to that.”

Relentless, Letterman finally asked, “So you know, but you don’t want to tell me?” Responded Cruz, giggling, “I know, but I choose not to share some things!”

[From People]

I think she did well with those questions. In the past few months she’s had to deny rumors that she was pregnant, and that she and Javier were adopting from India, so I’ll give her some credit for not confirming or denying the engagement stuff. I get the feeling that her deal isn’t some publicist-driven “look at me no don’t look at me” crap.

Many are saying that Penelope will get another supporting actress Oscar nomination for Nine, where she’s playing Daniel Day-Lewis’s mistress. I think the chances are good that she could walk away with a lead actress nomination for Broken Embraces, though. I haven’t heard much about the film, but the Academy seems to love her in Pedro Almodovar’s films. In any case, I wish Penelope luck - who knows, if she gets nominated for some stuff, maybe she’ll walk the red carpet with Javier.

Is Penelope Cruz flashing a sapphire engagement ring?

Penelope Cruz and director Pedro Almodovar arrive for the NY Film Festival screening of Broken Embraces , NYC

There are many, many reports swirling around Penelope Cruz lately, and most of them involve her hot Spanish boyfriend/lover/maybe-fiancée Javier Bardem. Javier has maybe proposed to Penelope, or possibly gotten her pregnant, or perhaps they’re just still having hot Spanish sex whenever they can and Javier can’t be bothered to put on a ring on it or knock her up. Thus far, Penelope has denied the pregnancy rumors in a sort-of random, cryptic way, but she hasn’t really confirmed or denied the engagement rumors. She showed up at a Sunday screening of Broken Embraces wearing a rather large, beautiful sapphire ring on her left ring finger, and people are now considering it an engagement ring. Oh, and they’re also wondering about Penelope’s weird outfit - as in, is she concealing a bump?

I actually pretty tired of Penelope bump-watch. I was interested in it a few months ago, when she really looked pregnant, but now I just want the press to leave the poor girl alone. Beyond that, I honestly didn’t figure Penelope for a conventional “get married then have babies” approach - in a July interview she even said: “I want to have babies one day but not right now… I don’t know if I believe in marriage.”

Penelope latest act is just as much of a head-scratcher. It looks like Penelope and Madonna may be friends…? Friendly enough to have dinner together, with their respective hottie boyfriends (except Javier is totally a million times hotter than Jesus Luz) at Mr. Chow in New York (photo evidence here). Radar is reporting that what appears to be a double date might not have been - I’m thinking Madge and baby Jesus gatecrashed Penelope’s nice family dinner:

Who knew that Madonna and Penelope Cruz were such close pals? Madge and boyfriend Jesus Luz were spotted having dinner with Cruz and her rumored fiancé Javier Bardem on Friday at Mr. Chow in New York.

“Penelope was with Javier and her family sharing chicken satay and beijing duck,” a source tells RadarOnline. “Madonna and Jesus arrived about 30 minutes into the meal and sat with the group for nearly two hours.”

According to the source, “The group was loud, laughing and seemed overall in great spirits.”

During the dinner, the Material Girl sipped martinis, but “Penelope didn’t drink” says the source – fueling the rumors that Cruz is pregnant with Bardem’s baby.

Cruz and Madonna kept the love fest going the next night at a dinner honoring director Pedro Almodovar.

[From Radar]

This is one of the worst things about Madonna - she always latches on to whatever or whoever is really hot and tries to get extra cool points by hanging out with them. Some of her new associates become genuine friends (Gwyneth Paltrow, Stella McCartney) while others are just discarded once the Madge Vadge has gotten the publicity she so desperately needed. Ten bucks says that Madge’s painful cheekbones tried to flirt with Javier during dinner. My guess is that Javier was unimpressed.

NYDN: Penelope Cruz & Javier Bardem engaged, not adopting from India

I’m not sure how many more rounds this Penelope Cruz engagement/pregnancy rumor has. At some point, I think people are going to get tired of running variations on the same old story that Penelope keeps denying, but there’s yet another new round today. The NY Daily News’ Rush & Malloy are reporting that while Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem definitely weren’t engaged before, they totally are now. They’re also not bothering to do another round of “she’s totally pregnant” crap, probably because Penelope just denied the rumors again in November’s Vanity Fair. Apparently, even Penelope’s friends are skeptical of this denial, but whatever. She’s not telling us, and at some point, even I get exhausted with the baby bump game. The most interesting slice of gossip from this Rush & Malloy report - in my mind - is that Javier wasn’t interested in adopting a baby from India when Penelope had her heart set on it:

Congratulations, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem.

The fiercely private couple is still playing coy about whether or not they’re dating. But, take it from us, they are in fact engaged. Rumors that they might be betrothed have been floating around since April. Not true then. True now.

“They’re telling friends they will get married,” says a pal, who heard the news directly from one of them. A wedding is bound to comfort Cruz’s Catholic parents, considering stubborn rumors that she’s pregnant.

But she continues to deny she’s with child - even to friends. Despite a photo showing the smiling pair leaving an OB/GYN clinic in Madrid last month, they’ve been telling friends to hold off on the baby gifts.

“They say the pregnancy stories aren’t true,” says another skeptical friend. Publicists for the stars declined to comment.

Cruz professed ambivalence about being a wife as recently as August. “I don’t know if I believe in marriage,” the actress, who’d weathered the glare of her romance with Tom Cruise, told the UK’s Psychologies magazine. “I believe in family, love and children.”
She added, “When I [have children], I want to do it really well. I want it to be my best project in life.”

While many reports have time-stamped Cruz and Bardem’s romance as starting in 2007, few know they first fell for each other in 1992 while making “Jamon, Jamon,” where their fiery sex scenes were improved by some real-life rehearsals.

Cruz broke it off with Bardem after the film, but they teamed again for 1997’s “Live Flesh.” By the time Woody Allen cast them in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” both were older, wiser and international superstars. They fell in love all over again. Cruz’s convincing performance as Bardem’s virago ex earned her an Oscar. (He came home with one, too, for “No Country for Old Men.”)

Some reports claimed they’d broken up last year, alleging she was mad at him for breaking a promise to take a year off from work. “Penelope is really angry because she turned down a few really good roles because she was so committed to their sabbatical,” one source was quoted as saying.

Her brother Eduardo contended Cruz was also disappointed that Bardem wouldn’t go along with her plan to adopt a baby from India. Despite those reports, the two have remained inseparable, doing a very bad job of pretending to be friends. From the sound of things, they’re finally ready to give up their ruse.

[From Rush & Malloy]

I think they’re definitely together, and definitely serious about each other. I’d also buy that she’s pregnant before I’d buy that they’re engaged. It doesn’t seem like either of them are the traditional white-wedding type, and I don’t understand how any woman could be with Javier for any length of time without getting knocked up. I think I got pregnant just looking at him.

Penelope Cruz in Vanity Fair: cat-eyes & another pregnancy denial

1109 VF NOUPC

Here’s Penelope on the cover of November’s Vanity Fair. While I really like almost everything about the cover shot, they should have rethought Penelope’s makeup. Those cat-eyes make her look like she had a bad facelift. Other than that, it’s very sexy.

Over the weekend, the NY Daily News ran a gossip piece about the continuing pregnancy rumors surrounding Penelope. The pregnancy rumors swirled for most of the summer, and then Penelope denied them in total while at the Toronto Film Festival two weeks ago. Anyway, the NYDN ran a story about Penelope and her hottie boyfriend Javier Bardem exiting an ob-gyn clinic last week, and how Pene was “glowing” and Javier was “tightly clutching a large, white envelope”. For the record, Penelope’s denial to the pregnancy question was “No, I’m not.” No room for question about it, really.

Now Penelope is giving a more formal denial in the November issue of Vanity Fair. The full interview is on VF’s site as well as a retrospective portfolio of Penelope’s previous appearances in VF. I’ve skimmed the article on VF’s site, and it’s a little light on actual quotes from Penelope. The writer, Ingrid Sischy, is too interested in telling her own personal stories to get anything really juicy out of Penelope. Here are some of the highlights, via Huffington Post:

Penélope Cruz, notoriously private and press-shy, tells Vanity Fair contributing editor Ingrid Sischy in a rare revealing moment that she is not pregnant with boyfriend Javier Bardem’s baby.

“My most nosy Parker question–one that I felt it was my duty as a reporter to ask–was whether the widespread rumors that there was a wee Bardem-Cruz on the way were true,” writes Sischy. “Here, unlike before, there was no telling silence from Cruz. Instead she answered no but in a rather baroque, roundabout way, detailing how [director Pedro] Almodóvar had tried, to no avail, to put that rumor to rest when a journalist asked him about it on a red carpet.”

Normally mum when it comes to her relationship with Bardem (”It’s more that she is protective of their privacy to a point that is striking even for performers who don’t like to kiss and tell,” Sischy writes), when Sischy brought up a U2 concert that she and Bardem had attended in Paris, mentioning that she’d heard Cruz was playing air guitar during some of the songs, Cruz squealed with delight, saying, “Javier is even better at air guitar!”

Sischy asks Cruz who was a better kisser: Scarlett Johansson, with whom she shared a famous make-out session in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, or Charlize Theron, whom Cruz smooched in the 2004 film Head in the Clouds. “No matter how I answer that I will be in trouble,” she says. “Both were pretty beautiful partners.”

Sophia Loren–Cruz’s co-star in the upcoming film Nine–tells Sischy that Cruz “has become a real friend. We talked a lot about life and our careers. I talked about De Sica, she talked about Almodóvar. When it was my last day she came to my dressing room. She was crying, and I was crying. This is the first time that I have left a film crying because we got so upset about leaving each other.”

Sischy writes that Cruz’s anxiety is fascinating, coming from someone who is so fearless on-screen. “I’ve always been a worrier,” says Cruz. “Since I was a little girl I’ve always felt that if I had a moment of peace I’d wonder: Are you sure you can afford to feel like this?”

Woody Allen, Cruz’s director for Vicky Cristina Barcelona, is effusive in his assessment of her ability, but tells Sischy, “I never thought about her as a person, because when I work I’m not interested in the person except as a performer. When she turned out to be lovely, that was nice, but I would have been O.K. if she had been a bitch.” Regarding her beauty, he adds: “I don’t like to look at Penélope directly. It is too overwhelming.”

On the set of Nine, director Rob Marshall remembers, “She’d be the last one in that soundstage working, and I’d have to say, ‘Penélope, it’s over.’ The day we were shooting her big song, ‘A Call from the Vatican,’ she was out there working so hard. In the middle of the number she does all this work with ropes–she was swinging on them and it was scary and she had formed calluses and her hands were bleeding. Daniel [Day-Lewis] was screaming to her from the back of the soundstage that she is a warrior. We had told her she should wear gloves, but she was like, ‘No, no, no–I have to feel it.’ There’s this huge sheath of pink satin that she slides down on. When we finished the number she had disappeared behind the satin and was in tears. I said, ‘Are you unhappy with what you did?’ She said, ‘No, no. It’s that it is over, and I loved every second. I want to install ropes in my bedroom so I don’t have to let go of it.’ “

[From Vanity Fair via Huffington Post]

I can’t wait to see Nine. But not really for Penelope, I want to see it for Daniel Day-Lewis and Sophia Loren. I can’t wait to see Daniel sing, dance and romance. God knows, he’ll probably get yet another Oscar. In case anyone is unfamiliar with the project, this is how it went: in the 1963, Fredrico Fellini made a film called 8 ½, based on his own life, his own marriage and affairs and his relationships with the women he loved. The film was turned into a Broadway musical (called Nine) in the 1980s, and ended up winning a slew of Tonys. There was always talk about making the musical into a film, and now Chicago director Rob Marshall has done it. The film’s cast is kind of amazing - in addition to Day-Lewis and Cruz, there’s Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren, Judi Dench, Marion Cotillard and Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson. Cannot. Wait.

Here’s Penelope looking tired and uncomfortable while working on the set of her new film on September 8th in Los Angeles. Images thanks to Fame Pictures .

Source: Penelope Cruz is pregnant with Javier Bardem’s baby

wenn2529356
The pregnancy rumors have been swirling about Penelope Cruz for months. I tend to think there are two reasons - one, Penelope has been gaining some weight (she still looks gorgeous, just a bit heavier) and two, how could any woman be with Javier Bardem, and not try to get pregnant all the time?

The rumors went into overdrive during the Cannes Film Festival, when Penelope had to miss out on some press because she allegedly had food poisoning. Some theorized that the she only had some kind of jet-lagged morning sickness though. A few weeks later, an interview with Penelope came out where she claimed she wanted babies, but not a husband. It’s thought that though Javier and Penelope are some kind of hot Spanish soul mates, neither is particularly interested in getting married.

Now Just Jared is running with a pregnancy confirmation from a “source” claiming that Penelope is four months along. I kind of believe it. Mostly I believe it because I can’t wait for hot Spanish babies!

Penelope is expecting her first child with longtime love Javier Bardem, sources confirm exclusively to JustJared.com.

“Penelope is about four months pregnant,” a source tells Just Jared. “She’s really healthy now and will be a great mother.”

Penelope may be expecting, but she won’t be tying the knot anytime soon. She told the August issue of UK’s Psychologies magazine, “When I [have babies], I want to do it really well. I want it to be my best project in life. I don’t know if I believe in marriage. I believe in family, love and children.”

Penelope, 35, and Javier, 40, appeared together in three films — Jamón, Jamón, Live Flesh and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Penelope has been in Germany promoting her latest movie, Broken Embrace.
Congrats to the happy couple!

P.S. This might be why Penelope decided to quit smoking.

[From Just Jared]

The quitting-smoking thing is actually a really good theory for Penelope’s weight gain. Many people gain a lot of weight right after they quit - but the whole Penelope-was-a-smoker-but-now-she’s-quit thing came from Life & Style, so who knows? To me, she looks knocked up, especially in this green dress in Berlin on Monday. Her boobs look bigger, and she just looks thicker. Where’s Javier? He should be gloating. He should be thrilled! It’s not everyday that two hot, sexy Oscar winners produce the perfect baby!

Penelope Cruz wants babies but not a husband

wenn2213483
I know most people don’t really care about the state of Penelope Cruz’s womb, but I enjoy reading about her, because I think she’s a pretty authentic international movie star, in the vein of women like Sophia Loren or Bridget Bardot. I get a little tired of the faux-celebrities - so it’s nice to check in with someone like Penelope occasionally. She’s the cover girl for the British magazine Psychologies, and if the interview excerpt (via People) is any indication, this magazine tries to get celebrities to admit their various psychological problems.

Penelope, 35, admits that she has self-destructive tendencies - yeah, we figured that out with the Tom Cruise incident. I’m still shocked Penelope came out of that one with her career intact. Penelope also talks about her immortal beloved, Javier Bardem, saying only that he’s a “wonderful actor”. Alas, nothing about that rumored engagement. The most notable thing she says is that she’s not so sure about marriage, but she’s definitely sure she’d like to be a mother. Step up, Javier:

Penelope Cruz is a perfectionist in all areas of her profession, something the Spanish-born star admits she carries over into her personal life.

“Every time I make a film, I feel like it’s my first time … I always think they could fire me,” the Oscar winner, 35, tells the August issue of Psychologies magazine in the U.K. “I’ve ruined my own happiness and created problems with my friends because of this tendency. It takes discipline for me to stop worrying.”

She adds, “I have a tendency to become a mother to everyone around me. My brother and sister are always complaining that I’m too protective.”

Someday that might just come in handy. Currently linked to fellow Spaniard Javier Bardem – about whom Cruz would only say, “He’s a wonderful man, a great actor” – she does admit that she definitely desires kids.

“I want to have babies one day but not right now. When I do it I want to do it really well. I want it to be my best project in life,” says Cruz. “I don’t know if I believe in marriage. I believe in family, love and children.”

Appropriately enough, Cruz’s next film is kid-friendly. She voices a gerbil spy named Juarez in Disney’s G-Force, which hits theaters July 31.

[From People]

Can you imagine saying that to Javier Bardem? “I don’t believe in marriage, but please get me pregnant?” Man up, Javier! Get Penelope pregnant! That baby would be better than royalty. Regarding the marriage stuff - does Penelope strike anyone else as rather commitment-phobic? She’s a serial monogamist, for sure. I don’t think there was much space between Nicolas Cage to Tom Cruise to Matthew McConuaghey. So will she eventually dump Javier and move on to her next costar? Dios mio, I hope Javier gets her pregnant first.

In Touch: Penelope Cruz sick with Javier Bardem’s baby, not food poisoning

fp_3032126_ang_broken_embraces_prem_051909
When Penelope Cruz was in Cannes for the film festival two weeks ago, she allegedly got very ill from some kind of food poisoning. I say “allegedly” because In Touch Weekly has an interesting little conspiracy theory about what was really going on behind the scenes. In their take, Penelope was praying the porcelain gods, yes, but it wasn’t because of food poisoning. It was morning sickness from being implanted with Javier Bardem’s love child! Oh, happy gossip! Don’t spread negativity around this one, please. Just let me have a few moments while I enjoy the thought of two gorgeous Oscar-winning Spaniards not only getting hot and heavy, but actually making a perfect Oscar-hot-baby:

Penelope Cruz, 35, reportedly couldn’t promote her upcoming movie, Nine, at the Cannes film festival because she had a bad case of food poisoning.

But an insider tells In Touch that some speculated her nausea was actually caused by morning sickness.

Penelope, who is dating Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem, admitted recently that she’s ready to start a family.

“I’d love to have kids,” she said in April. “I think I would be a perfect mother.”

And while she’s also said she still wants to focus on her career, her close friend Salma Hayek, who has a 20-month-old daughter, Valentina, has convinced her that a baby will make her life better - and that the timing is right.

“Penelope and Javier are so in love,” an insider says.

[From In Touch, print edition, June 15 2009]

Now back to reality. Is Penelope really pregnant? I would say, probably not. But it is a possibility. Because, seriously, how many times could you have sex with Javier Bardem without - at some point - saying to yourself, “Damn, I should get pregnant by this sexy beast.” Yeah, I thought so. The rumor going around a few weeks ago was that Javier had proposed to Penelope at or around Salma Hayek’s Venice wedding - but nothing was ever confirmed. Neither Penelope nor Javier seem that traditional to me, so it’s perfectly possible that both would be up for having a baby without getting married.

Picture note by Celebitchy: Here are photos of Penelope at Cannes this year. Thanks to WENN.com, Fame Pictures and PRPhotos. She is not looking pregnant at all. Javier is shown in a still from Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Penelope Cruz & Javier Bardem might be engaged

vicky cristina barcelona 111208

It might be nothing, but there are new rumors that Spanish beauties Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem are engaged. It seems that Javier got the idea when the two of them attended Salma Hayek’s Venice wedding. Allegedly, Javier was so moved by the Venetian romance, he dropped to one knee soon after.

Javier and Penelope alleged got together for the first time while they were playing on-off lovers in Woody Allen’s excellent film Vicky Cristina Barcelona. I say “alleged” because it seems weird to me that two such beautiful, amazing Spanish actors had never hooked up before. They knew each other before filming, and had worked together on several different Spanish productions. Weird. But let’s keep with the story that they really became a couple during and after Vicky Cristina. They’ve both been very quiet about their relationship, and I don’t expect them to confirm one way or the other about weddings and babies. But here’s hoping:

Hollywood was abuzz with speculation that Spanish big-screen duo Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem were on the rocks earlier this year, because he was rarely by her side as she accepted numerous accolades (including an Oscar!) for their film Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

But the two-year relationship is now at an all-time high. Soon after they attended pal Salma Hayek’s ultraromantic nuptials on April 25 in Venice, Javier got down on one knee and propsed to his stunning senorita, 35, Star has learned.

“Penelope has been itching to married for months, but he hasn’t. She finally told him ‘Marry me or I’m leaving!’” says a source.

“Don’t get me wrong, he absolutely loves her and is thrilled to be with her. He just didn’t think he was ready to walk down the aisle.”

So after Penelope’s ultimatum, Javier, 40, turned to his mom, Pilar, for advice. “Pilar wasn’t sure about Penelope at first, but the two have become really close over time,” says the source. “Pilar told Javier not to let her go, no matter what!”

[From Star Magazine, print edition, May 18 2009]

Maybe I’m just tired and a little punch-drunk from my little mini-marathon of Bones last night (I’m such a party animal), but I’m equally turned on by Penelope and Javier. They’re both so friggin’ beautiful, and they make so much sense together, they just have to get married and have babies. They seem to be the real thing, too, not like Penelope’s relationships with Tom Cruise or Matthew McConaughey, which always had the whiff of public relations-relationships (to me at least). Penelope always seduces her costars (Matt Damon, Nicolas Cage, in addition to McConaughey, Cruise and Bardem), but I think she’s met her match with Javier. Must. Have. Hot. Spanish. Babies.

Yummy couple Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz are getting serious

Penelope Cruz has dated some of the most famous leading men in Hollywood, including Tom Cruise and Matthew McConaughey, but has somehow managed to escape settling down with any of them for too long. Now, sources say her under-the-radar romance with recent Oscar winning actor Javier Bardem is really heating up. The couple met while filming a Woody Allen movie together last summer. They were photographed back in October taking a romantic vacation together, and have been occasionally snapped by paparazzi walking together, but neither of them will comment on the relationship. Since Javier’s career exploded after his star-making performance in “No Country For Old Men,” the couple have had to work a lot harder to keep their relationship under wraps.

Penelope Cruz doesn’t want to publicly show off her relationship with Javier Bardem, but he’s showing her off to his family. Cruz, who was snapped with Bardem’s mom after the Oscars, threw a private party for her trophy-toting beau at Villa on Sunday night. Bardem’s family flew in from Spain to meet Cruz and partied with the couple - along with the Oscar-winning Coen brothers - at the West Hollywood hot spot. One onlooker told us, “He took Penelope for a spin on the dance floor in front of all his family. It’s getting pretty serious.”

[From Page Six]

Friends say Penelope is the one who is trying maintain privacy, after her previous relationships with Cruise and McConaughey were splashed across tabloids and ended so publicly. Penelope and Javier both attended the Oscars this year, but walked the red carpet separately- Javier told interviewers his date for the evening was his mom. The next day, photos emerged of Penelope and Javier trying to sneak away after the ceremony in the same car.

Penelope doesn’t have much of a long-term track record, but I am rooting for this couple. They are just gorgeous, and they both have that exotic flavor in common. I bet they’d have adorable babies.

Note by Celebitchy: Here’s Penelope Cruz out with Javier Bardem’s mom after the Oscars. When I saw these pictures I thought “Wait until she marries that guy, she’ll be fighting with his mom in no time.”

Best Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem (video)

javierwon.jpg
Javier Bardem has won best supporting actor for his role as hitman Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men. Bardem has gained international fame for this role, and his “man bob” hairstyle has become almost as talked about as the film itself. In fact, Javier gave the man-bob a shout out during his acceptance speech:

“Thank you to the Cohen brothers for thinking I could play that role while putting on one of the most horrible haircuts in history.”

Javier looked nothing like the cold-blooded hitman he played in the movie. He was probably one of the best dressed men of the night, and his five o’clock shadow and dimples were spectacular.

Update by Celebitchy: Here’s Bardem’s acceptance speech. This clip also contains the intro by Jennifer Hudson. The winner is announced at about 3:00 minutes in.
