Cameron Diaz & Justin Timberlake are flirting up a storm on set

39276PCN_Diaz

These are some new photos of Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake working together on the set of Bad Teacher. Now, I know the headline was slightly misleading. But as I was going through all of these photos, one thing stood out: both JT and Camy are flirting with each other, you can tell from their body language, and both are thinking about it. Pacific Coast News notes that Camy and JT “seemed to be all smiles and very comfortable while working with one another in a professional atmosphere.” Now, I know some people (most people) don’t really give a crap about whether or not Cameron is going to steal Justin away from Jessica Biel, but this is endlessly fascinating to me. Because I really think it’s on.

39276PCN_Diaz

Just look at the way Cameron is looking at JT as he… dances? Is that dancing? Or is just doing his blocking for a shot? I can’t really tell, but he looks like he’s “presenting” as we would say in the animal kingdom. Anyway, Cameron looks totally into it. The Daily Mail/Star has a source who claims: “’Their chemistry is incredible. Cameron was craving a high-energy comedy and sexual sparks, and she’s definitely getting that with Justin! She positively glows when she’s around him. Cameron couldn’t care less about Jessica. She’s not going to let her stand in the way.”

Is this fake laughter? Is Cameron like, “Ohmygod, you’re so funny, so come back to my trailer?”

39276PCN_Diaz

Let me ask you something ladies: would you want your boyfriend to be hanging out with his ex-girlfriend, and you could see from the photo evidence that there were still sparks between them? I couldn’t take it. I would have a hissy fit.

Is Sam Worthington the male Jessica Biel?
Photo by: AT1/Xposure/starmaxinc.com 2010 3/28/10 Sam Worthington at the Jameson Empire F

I’ve been baffled by recent interviews with Sam Worthington. Sometimes he comes across as one of the biggest dolts to ever become a working actor. Other times he seems rather funny and engaging. Is this all a plot to keep people guessing? I have no idea. And I’m starting to care less and less about the whole business, quite honestly. Worthington sat down for an interview in Parade to promote Clash of the Titans, and he comes across as… full of himself, I think. He mentions that he thought Harry Hamlin (star of the original Clash of the Titans) was “fey” and “could have butched it up more”. He also laments actors complaining about their on-set injuries, saying: “You have to watch actors that talk up getting hurt. I think any actor that talks up the amount of bruises they got is a bit soft.” Eh. I guess he’s trying not to be jaded and “Hollywood”. But he comes across as bitchy, in my opinion. As I was reading this, I honestly wondered what my reaction would be if some of this stuff came out of Jessica Biel’s mouth. I would probably rip her a new one. So is Sam the male Jessica Biel?

Wearing a skirt into battle.
“The upside is that it’s very well ventilated. Look, Russell Crowe wore one for Gladiator, Eric Bana wore one for Troy, Mel wore one for Braveheart. I think it was the next logical step in my career. I think it’s something every young Australian actor has to do, isn’t it? You earn your chops for putting on the dress.”

That’s about all he took from the star of the original Clash.
“No disrespect to Harry Hamlin, but I think he was a bit fey and he could have butched it up a bit for want of a better word. I’d never seen any other ancient kind of movie in which the star has a buzz cut. I just wanted to look a bit different since my character’s been on a boat all his life as a fisherman where he doesn’t have a chance to get his hair done. So I just shaved my head.”

Classics for the young.
“I looked on Perseus as like a troublesome teenager. Teenagers kind of have problems with their parents. He’s got the biggest parent of all time, his dad is Zeus, the god of gods and he’s got a bit of beef with him. I thought that’s something that every kid that goes to see the movie can relate to because it’s a growing up kind of thing. I have a nine-year-old nephew and the message to him is, you don’t have to be a god to succeed. You get together with a group of people who are like minded and fight for a common cause.”

Pass the Band-Aids.
“We did quite a bit of stunt work, but you have to watch actors that talk up getting hurt. I think any actor that talks up the amount of bruises they got is a bit soft. I’ve got a nephew that gets more bruised than most actors when he plays in the back yard. But we had our days when we might be limping a bit. I play tough guys but I’m not a tough guy in real life.”

Time for actors to understand that being blue and animated is still acting.
“There was kind of an ignorance as to how we did it in Avatar. Now Jim Cameron is showing a lot of behind-the-scenes footage. Even though it’s animated with motion capture, it is our performance a hundred percent. So actors don’t have to fear being replaced by technology. Motion capture is just a tool. Acting is essentially just using your imagination to find the truth in imaginary circumstances. The special effects just take you back to the essence of what acting is.”

There will be an Avatar 2.
“Jim has talked to me about different story points. I can’t tell you more than that because the security guys would come flying through the window. Jim has to find the challenge in the next story. It’s a bit like Clash of the Titans, you don’t just do it unless you can kind of improve on it. I think Jim is working to improve on Avatar and that’s where it’s at.”

And he’s not on a star trip either.
“I didn’t set out into this profession to become a star, but the ascent has been very rapid and I’m still pinching myself. I was at the Oscars with Jennifer Lopez and I felt like I was in a dream. But you just try to keep grounded. It’s the good thing about being Australian, I think. We have a sensibility to keep our feet on the deck. All the tinsel of Tinseltown doesn’t really bother me.”

The story behind those red sneakers he wore on the Oscar red carpet.
“The ones they gave me made me look like a hobgoblin. J-Lo would have tripped on them, and I would probably have fallen off the stage and ripped her dress. It would have been ridiculous, so I just kind of went with what was comfortable. I bought a pair of red ones for a few bucks at Payless, which was the closest store. I didn’t give a crap how they looked because they were comfy. But I guess the word spread, which is kind of cool. They sold every red pair they had. Now I guess I’m kind of the Payless poster boy.”

[From Parade]

So is he the male Jessica Biel? Not really. Jessica Biel would have found some way to mention how gorgeous she is and how she deserves an Oscar. Maybe the similarity is that both Biel and Worthington are trying too hard to sell a certain image of themselves – in Biel’s case, the too-beautiful Oscar hopeful just looking for the right part. In Worthington’s case, he’s trying to convince us he’s the truth-telling tough guy who never needs to “butch it up.” I stand by my assessment of Sam – there’s something off-putting about him – to me, at least. I know CB (and many others) enjoy him. But I did like the Payless story. And I’d really like to know how a man putting on dress shoes with a tuxedo somehow equals “hobgoblin”. Is he talking about how short he is?

Justin Timberlake screws around on Jessica Biel with literally everyone

infphoto_1195725

This week’s tabloids are full of Justin Timberlake gossip, and all of it is bad news for Jessica Biel. I thought about making part of this story a bigger deal last week, but we didn’t have access to the incriminating photos, and the photos are what make the story, and besides that, Jessica Biel is still clinging to that dirt bag, so what’s the point? The basic gist is that JT was in Las Vegas last week and he was photographed getting very cosy with a “go-go dancer” (photos here). While the photos don’t have them kissing or anything, they are very close, and it does not look good.

Us Weekly reports this week that the “go-go dancer” was actually a “waitress” who “had her hands on his chest, under his jacket…The lady’s name is Joey Williams, and she’s brown with dark hair. A friend of Justin’s swears she’s not his type: ‘He’s into athletic tomboyish white girls.’” Meanwhile, Star Magazine reported the incident as Justin flirting/hooking up with TWO “go-go dancers” and that JT and the girls went back to his hotel room for a “sexy late night after party.” And finally, In Touch reported the incident as JT refusing to answer Biel‘s calls, “acting single” and talking to friends about “wanting out of the relationship” but not having “the heart to break up with her”.

So that incident was probably bad enough, right? Nope. JT and Cameron Diaz are also rediscovering their “chemistry” while working together on Bad Teacher. And OK! Magazine reports that JT told Biel that she basically has to suck it up:

From the moment Cameron Diaz reunited with ex-love Justin Timberlake for January’s Hope For Haiti Now telethon, their bitter 2007 breakup seemed long ago and far away — and she got that old feeling all over again. Sure, Justin’s deeply involved with Jessica Biel. But as a Cameron insider tells OK!, “Cam had forgotten what great chemistry she has with Justin.”

So great that it was Cameron, 37, who fought fiercely for Columbia Pictures to cast acting novice Justin, 29, as her leading man in their sexy comedy Bad Teacher, now shooting in L.A. — passing over an A-list lineup including Ryan Reynolds, Paul Rudd and Bradley Cooper.

“Cameron kept telling them she wanted Justin,” reveals the source. “She was bummed because the studio said no — they didn’t think Justin would be good on the big screen.”

Still, the perseverant blonde would not be denied. “Cameron melted down and really pushed it,” the insider tells OK!, and when she showed clips from Justin’s comedy The Social Network, about the birth of Facebook, “that sold them.”

But what really made Cameron battle so hard for her ex? Was it merely his deft comic timing — or that she knew the Bad Teacher script called for steamy love scenes?

The film tells the story of a school teacher (Cameron) pursuing a spoken-for colleague (Justin).

“Cameron’s such a bad girl: she made them rewrite the love scenes so that they’re even juicier — and longer,” the source reveals. “She doesn’t want to stir up trouble. But you know, she’s been cheated on — Justin cheated on her. She may not hold to the letter of the law when it comes to Jessica.”

Now, after three years with Justin, it’s Jessica’s turn to get upset. While initially “freaking out” over Justin and Cameron’s lusty screen pairing, says another source, Jessica has since relaxed her attitude.

“When Justin made it clear he was doing the movie with or without Jessica’s support, Jess swallowed her pride and did the unthinkable — she pilfered Cam’s cell number from Justin’s phone and called her to bury the hatchet,” the source tells OK!. “Jessica said she was thrilled Justin was working with someone of Cameron’s caliber and thanked Cam for going to bat for him.”

[From OK! Magazine]

Did it happen like this? Who knows. I would like to think that Camy wouldn’t play these sort of games, but she might, just for fun. I can’t see her getting into a “girl fight” over JT, but she before, hasn’t she (right after they broke up, when JT was allegedly romancing Biel and ScarJo)? One thing is for sure, in my mind at least – Jessica Biel will really tolerate anything. She really thinks JT is something great (or great for her career), and she will just stand by and let him do whatever or whoever. Blech.

Is Jessica Biel worried about Cameron & Justin’s on-screen hookup?

wenn2771050

I hate to say it, especially about such an ugly dress that I would never in a million years like or buy or want, but Jessica Biel looks really good here. The dress is so fug, it kind of works. At least, it works on Jessica. I have to give her props for having the confidence to pull off something so ugly. Of course, confidence isn’t Jessica’s problem. Or is it?

Life & Style got a script excerpt from Bad Teacher, the film that Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz have both signed on for. Camy plays “a recently dumped school teacher determined to score a date with Justin Timberlake’s character, Scott, a fellow teacher already in a relationship.” And it’s a romantic comedy. And they get have a “steamy” sex scene:

When you’re dating an actor, it’s always uncomfortable to watch him get cozy with an on-screen lover – especially when that lover is an ex! That’s exactly what Jessica Biel will have to deal with when she watches Justin Timberlake and his ex-girlfriend Cameron Diaz onscreen — and in bed together! In the upcoming romantic comedy Bad Teacher, Cameron plays Elizabeth, a recently dumped school teacher determined to score a date with Justin Timberlake’s character, Scott, a fellow teacher already in a relationship.

Life & Style has exclusively obtained a copy of the movie’s script — and in it, things get awfully steamy. In one scene, the real-life exes are alone in a hotel room and begin, as Justin’s character puts it, “dry humping.” Justin winds up getting, well, way too excited way too soon — ending their make-out session prematurely. “That was a mistake,” he says, rolling off her. “That was fast,” she responds.

[From Life & Style]

Haha, I bet Justin and Cameron won’t even have to “act” that scene, they’ll just have to relive their old sex life. Rimshot! Beyond that, who really thinks Justin looks old enough to play a teacher? I could buy it if he was cast as the “student”. I kind of think it’s a step down for Camy, to star in a romantic comedy with JT, right? Hopefully, somebody will pull out of it. Maybe. Do you think that’s what Jessica hopes too?

A Laverne and Shirley movie with Jessica Biel & Jennifer Garner?

Premiere Of New Line Cinema's Valentine's Day - Arrivals
Star Magazine is reporting that there’s a movie version of the classic late 70s sitcom Laverne and Shirley being planned, with new BFFs Jessica Biel and Jennifer Garner in talks to star. I would guess that Garner would be Shirley and Biel would play Laverne. Of course this is Star so the story could be a figment of someone’s imagination, but they have actual quotes from the creator Garry Marshall (star Penny Marshall’s brother) and I found an earlier story from last week that makes it sound possible. The text below is from Contact Music, and it’s more clearly worded than Star and seems to have some weight to it. (Again, this came out last week, but it’s news to me!)

PRETTY WOMAN director GARRY MARSHALL is taking JAMIE FOXX’s advice and pushing forward with a movie remake of his hit TV sitcom LAVERNE & SHIRLEY with new best pals JESSICA BIEL and JENNIFER GARNER in the title roles.

The actresses became bosom buddies on the set of Marshall’s new film Valentine’s Day, prompting their co-star to suggest they’d be perfect for a Laverne & Shirley remake.

And Marshall admits he’s committed to making the movie, which will feature cameos from his sister Penny and Cindy Williams – the original Laverne & Shirley.

He says, “We’re gonna work on that. My sister Penny and Cindy are going to be a guest cameo (sic).”

And Garner can’t wait to work with her new best friend: “Are you kidding? We’re dying to do it.”

[From Contact Music]

I’m in my mid 30s, and I used to watch Laverne and Shirley all the time when I was a kid. Even if they have the same creator, producers and writers involved the film version will be a pale imitation of the original. It doesn’t matter, though, as long as people will fill the seats.

Who will play Lenny and Squiggy? I can see some lame casting going into those characters, like Jamie Kennedy and Justin Timberlake. (Although Timberlake might be decent as he does comedy well.) If they’re lucky they’ll get someone with decent name recognition like Adam Sandler or Jim Carrey.

Justin Timberlake’s mom quotes horror classic: Jessica Biel is “one of us”

fp_4546894_biel_jessica_cjny_021710

This is Jessica Biel leaving the William Rast show yesterday. As many know, the William Rast label was started by Justin Timberlake and his best friend Trace Ayala, and Biel just had to show up to support her man (re: mark her territory). Lainey at Lainey Gossip said the funniest thing about Biel’s appearance: “Of course clingy Biel wouldn’t miss this opportunity to tag along on his star. Check her out, leaving his apartment this afternoon, freshly blown out, very dressed up, almost too much for William Rast, fronting like she’s regal and elegant Michelle Obama styles. The wife of the Pipsqueak.” While I love Biel’s coat, she’s not wearing it correctly. She’s got it all bunched up and it makes her look hunchbacked. Gross. She doesn’t deserve that coat. She needs to give it to me.

Anyway, “clingy” Biel got her attention, and she got a little something extra: the public support of Justin’s mom Lynn. Lynn told People Magazine all about how much she loves Biel and how Biel is “one of us.” Which is a line from a horror movie, right? Children of the Corn? I just looked it up… it’s from the horror classic Freaks. Awesome. But there’s method to Lynn’s madness – she wants more from Biel than just visits from the “grand puppies”. She wants grandchildren, dammit!

It was a family affair at Justin Timberlake’s William Rast fashion show on Wednesday: The singer’s parents Lynn and Paul Harless sat in the front row next to his girlfriend Jessica Biel, whom Lynn calls “one of us.”

“She’s amazing. She’s so down-to-earth and her family is great,” says Lynn, adding that her son and Biel click because “they’re both very funny and creative.”

Not to mention thoughtful. “They’re always trying to out ‘special’ each other,” says Lynn. “They’re pretty openly affectionate.”

Timberlake’s longtime friend and Tennman Records artist Matt Morris and Vogue editor Anna Wintour also watched from the front row as models showcased the fall 2010 collection, which Timberlake and best friend Trace Ayala created to convey a “nomadic discoverer,” says Timberlake, 29. “The landscape of the Midwest was really the prominent theme that we kept coming back to,” he also said. “It was really inspiring.”

During the show, which was sponsored by Sony, Biel, 27, often leaned over to whisper to a friend in the seat next to her about the different looks. Models donned military-inspired coats and foxtail-covered shoes. “Tonight is my first time seeing the whole collection,” Biel told PEOPLE.

No surprise considering the actress’s active schedule. Along with promoting her new film Valentine’s Day, she climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro last month to raise awareness and funds for the global water crisis.

Mom Wants Grandchildren
“She was at my house around Christmas and there was this crazy noise coming from my gym,” says Lynn. No, it wasn’t Santa.

“To get ready for the climb, [Jessica] had the treadmill to the highest level and was running with a 40-lb. backpack,” says Lynn, adding with a laugh: “I want to be her when I grow up.”

So, is Biel “The One” for her son? “You should ask him. I’ve thought that before,” Lynn says with her fingers crossed. “They’re young. They have plenty of time.”

Just don’t wait too long, Justin. Mom is eager for tiny Timberlakes.

“I’ve had friends who have grandchildren and I’ve tried to express to him that I’m losing that race!” she says. “But I have grandpuppies. Justin has two boxers and she has a pitbull who’s now part of the family. I said I’ll leave you alone about the grandkids as long as you leave the puppies with me.”

[From People]

Aw, that was actually a really sweet interview. Lynn sounds like she genuinely likes Biel. But isn’t it strange that Justin never really says anything even remotely as sweet as this? Still, I’m back to buying that Jessica and Justin are together for real, although I do think they probably broke up for a little while last fall/winter. But she clings so well, and he didn’t have the energy to dump her for real. That’s how I interpret this.

Jennifer Garner to Jessica Biel: “Stop being so clingy”
Premiere Of New Line Cinema's Valentine's Day - Arrivals

This article from OK! Magazine is so ridiculous, I’m just praying it’s 100% true. So, you know how Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel are now, like, totally best friends for, like, ever and ever? Yeah. And to cinch the deal, Jennifer Garner began giving Jessica Biel advice on her Biel’s relationship with Justin Timberlake, at least according to OK! Magazine. Garner’s advice? “Stop being so clingy.” Oh, snap! Doesn’t Garner know that “clingy” is Biel’s only game? Clingy is Biel’s mating call. It’s her sole move!

So, “stop being so clingy” isn’t in and of itself a horrible piece of advice, especially if we’re talking about Jessica Biel here. But OK continues to list all of the pieces of advice Garner gave, and some of it sounding very familiar:

Jennifer Garner is helping Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake get their romance back on track. When Jessica told Jen she was having problems getting Justin to commit, “Jen advised her to back off and stop being so clingy,” a source tells OK!.

The Valentine’s Day co-stars have become fast friends in recent months.

“She even came up with a ‘relationship cheat sheet,’ including ways Jessica could spice things up and play hard to get at the same time,” the source says of Jen’s advice to Jessica.

Justin and Jessica have endured a stormy relationship — one that he has come close to ending several times.

“Jen told Jess to calm things down, and remind Justin what attracted her to him in the first place.”

Among Jen’s Tips:
• Play hard to get by being less available.
• Limit phone calls when they’re apart.
• Stop quizzing him about other women.
• Give each other sexy massages.
• Play nice with his guy friends and his family.

It seems the advice is working!

“Jessica and Justin are in a much better place,” says the source.

[From OK! Magazine]

These are from The Rules, right? “Don‘t be yourself” and “Be more mysterious” et cetera. I actually looked up the “top ten rules” and I think Garner missed some, like “pause in between sentences (you don’t babble on out of nervousness) and listen (attentively).” But the most important rule? “When a relationship doesn’t work out, you brush away a tear so that it doesn’t smudge your makeup and you move on!” Note that, Jessica! Do. Not. Cling. Especially when the relationship is pretty much over, save for the monthly clingy photo-op.

Just one added note – are these the “rules” Jennifer Garner adheres too? Or is this the kind of bullsh-t only single women need to do?

‘Valentine’s Day’ premiere: hot messes & fashion hits

fp_4503457_rij_valentine_day_020810

With a big ensemble cast of Valentine’s Day, you knew there were going to be some fashion hits and misses. What’s kind of surprising to me is how few fashion misses there were – which is probably why the few bad fashion choices stuck out so much. First, let me ask all of you – what do you think is appropriate for a female star to wear to the premiere of an ensemble romantic comedy? My choice would be a cute cocktail dress or just some sort of simple, elegant outfit that didn’t pull too much focus. Much like what Julia Roberts is wearing (above). Simple, pretty black dress that looks great but isn’t screaming “Look at me, I’m the star of this bitch!”

Then, of course, there’s Jessica Biel. Is Jessica the star? No. She’s a small part of a large ensemble. But you would never know that because she decked herself out in a big, dramatic gown like she’s the only star. She looks like she’s going to the Golden Globes (where she wasn’t invited). Over-dressed much? And the dress is fug, in my opinion.

fp_4503411_rij_valentine_day_020810

I didn’t really like Jessica Alba’s dress, but at least it was appropriate for the occasion. She looks young and cute, even though the dress is kind of meh.

fp_4503485_rij_valentine_day_020810

Jennifer Garner shows how should dress for the premiere of an ensemble rom-com. Gorgeous cocktail dress, simple hair and makeup, understated yet beautiful.

fp_4503420_rij_valentine_day_020810

Ugh. Anne Hathaway needs to fire Rachel Zoe as her stylist, for real. I get that Hathaway’s coloring makes it a little harder to find great clothes that work, but this dress isn’t working for me. It looks cheap, in my opinion, and it’s too short.

fp_4503448_rij_valentine_day_020810

Bradley Cooper: Bronzer much? I like that his forehead is a completely different color than his neck.

fp_4503395_rij_valentine_day_020810

And then we have two of the men in the film who came with their higher-profile significant others. Eric Dane brought his very pregnant wife Rebecca Gayheart, who looks very cute in my opinion.

fp_4503401_rij_valentine_day_020810

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher look good. I kind of think Demi is trying to pull focus, but at least she’s not wearing a damn ball gown, you know? I actually love her dress.

Justin Timberlake & Jessica Biel’s on-off relationship is on again

wenn5288995

Last fall, the rumors grew more and more persistent that Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel were either already broken up, or well on their way. A flurry of theories about their alleged break up swirled, everything from a JT’s rumored affair with Rihanna, to his indiscriminate cheating, to Jessica’s clingy ways were all discussed. As of late, JT and Biel haven’t seem particularly close, and it seemed like Kate Hudson might make a play for JT. But now reports indicate that JT and Biel are working through their issues, and Biel even came with Justin over the weekend when he received his Hasty Pudding award at Harvard!

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have had a rocky romance the last 4 months, but friends tell Fox 411 that the couple has recommitted to making it work in the new year. It seems despite breakups and disagreements, Justin decided that Jessica is worth the work their relationship will take.

“Things began taking a turn for the worse for Jess and Justin around the MTV Video Music Awards in September. Justin was staying in New York by himself, working a lot and going out with his friends. He and Jess took some time apart through the fall while she was working, but stayed in touch via phone. They visited each other a little bit and Jess missed Justin, but she was willing to give him space. It really worked out because by the time the holidays were coming, Justin was back and focused on Jess!”

The sexy young couple has mended their relationship and started fresh in the new year.
“Justin loves Jessica and he wants to be with her. She makes him happy, they have so much in common and she is a good fit for him. She’s low-key and makes the effort to spend quality time with her family and friends.”

The friend says Justin was wary of commitment and nervous about the long-term expectations with Jessica, but the couple worked it out and are happier together.

“Justin was being preemptive when he considered breaking up – he realizes what it would be like to lose Jessica and he cares about her so much. He wants her in his life and they are in a great new place in their relationship.”

The couple’s friends and family, including his mom, Lynn Harless, are thrilled they worked out their problems.

“Justin’s mom has often commented that she would love to see him and Jess marry and have her grandchildren. Lynn really does like Jess. Their mended relationship is good news.”

[From Fox News 411]

I don’t really get why Biel was so determined to stay with JT, honestly. I never get why women are all over him, and though I don’t think much of Biel, I think she could do much, much better. But she wants him, and she’s got him. For now at least. Probably until she finishes her promotional duties for Valentine’s Day. Do you think JT will walk the red carpet with her? I kind of doubt it, but it could happen.

Going back to the Hasty Pudding thing, while JT was being toasted/roasted, the Harvard dudes teased JT with this: “This year’s Man Of The Year is a triple threat. He sings, he dances and he goes straight to DVD.” They also had dudes dress up as Britney Spears, Madonna, and Chris Kirkpatrick. JT seemed like a good sport though, telling the audience: “Funny enough, every time I’ve hosted SNL I’ve ended up in drag at least once. I love stuff like this.” Hmm…

Jennifer Garner & Jessica Biel talk boys & fame in Marie Claire

mc4

Jennifer Garner mentioned in another interview that she and Jessica Biel became quite close while filming Valentine’s Day, and here’s the proof. Biel and Garner are the cover girls for Marie Claire’s March issue, all to promote Valentine’s Day. First off, First off, the photo shoot – some of these photos are really cute! They weren’t trying to make them look high-fashion or anything, and some of them are really sweet. As for the interview… well, it’s cloying. And saccharine. The Marie Claire interviewer Kevin Sessums clearly adores Biel and Garner, and would never say anything about them harsher than “the whole restaurant watched as [Biel] gracefully strode toward this back booth.” Gracefully strode? Like, she’s a horse with a good trot? Save it for the Sarah Jessica Parker interview, dude. In the actual interview, neither of them say anything earth-shattering, but here are some of the more interesting pieces (full article here, slideshow here):

Kevin Sessums on Jennifer Garner: “Garner, 37, is dressed in a black cotton turtleneck and black jeans. She wears no makeup at all, and her hair is pulled back in a ponytail. She possesses an incongruous combination of sexual charisma and girl-next-door normalcy. There is no artifice about her — it is the essence of her appeal. She is Sandra Dee—nuded.”

Jennifer Garner on how she and Biel got to be friends: “We don’t work with a lot of women on our films. And I haven’t worked much at all lately, to tell you the truth. The two weeks I worked on this movie were the only two weeks I’ve worked in about a year-and-a-half because of being pregnant and now having a 1-year-old. But when I do work, it’s always one woman and a bunch of men in my casts — maybe my character has a friend in the script, but not always. It’s odd. So on this film, it was great to have someone like Jessica around, even though most of our scenes as best friends were over the phone.”

Biel on their friendship: “You never really bond with all the guys in your cast like they do with each other.” Biel is nevertheless excited to tell Garner about her work “shooting N4 machine guns and 9-millimeter Berettas” on the A-Team movie she’s making with Cooper, Liam Neeson, and Patrick Wilson.

Garner on “living it up”: “I’d like some wine,” says Garner. “I never go out much anymore, so I’m going to have a glass of wine. This is living it up to me now.” The women each order an appetizer, a main course, and an order of pasta Bolognese to be shared by the three of us.

Biel heard a story about Violet Affleck: “Oh, I heard the sweetest story about Violet the other day,” says Biel, mentioning Garner’s 4-year-old daughter (older sister of 1-year-old Seraphina). “One of Violet’s classmates came up to her and said, ‘I heard Jennifer Garner lives in your house.’ And Violet said, ‘No, she doesn’t.’ The other kid kept insisting, so Violet came home and asked you, ‘Mom, who is Jennifer Garner and why are people saying she lives with us?’”

Garner confirms the story, then says: “Wow. That’s true. She just knows me as Mom, so I did have to explain to her for the first time about the difference.”

Garner on her husband, Ben Affleck: “I’m just holding down the fort while Ben works right now. I’m so impressed by his discipline. He gets up and works out every day at 4 a.m. before heading off to work. Every day. I used to do that sometimes for Alias. But not every day. And I’d do it for 30 minutes, maybe 45. He does it for an hour-and-a-half. He comes home and collapses, and then rewrites scenes for the next day, then crashes and does it all over again. He’s worn out. Jon Hamm is in it, too. It’s kind of a heist movie, and Hamm plays the FBI guy.”

Biel on Jon Hamm/Don Draper: “Mmmm … Don Draper,” says Biel, invoking the name of Hamm’s character on Mad Men. “I’m fascinated by Don Draper. But I hate him.”

Biel on whether she wants to sleep with Jon Hamm/Don Draper: “No!” she says emphatically. “No, I don’t. Not at all.”

Garner on whether it matters if she’s married to someone famous: “Well, we don’t need them to be famous ourselves. It’s not like I go to Jessica, ‘Oh, how’s your famous boyfriend?’” She goes on: “Yeah, from time to time we talk about swapping,” Garner deadpans.

Biel on her “famous partner”: “It does help to have a partner who understands what fame is about and can share that with you. It’s a hurdle you don’t have to get over.”

Garner on fame: “I think I have it all in perspective,” says Garner. “If you’re healthy and happy and you have a roof over your head, then that’s what’s important.”

Chuckle. My favorite part of any interview is always when Biel spouts out something to make herself seem important. Instead of answering the “does it matter that your boyfriend is famous?” question with a simple “no” or “we don’t think about it” Biel just had to go off, insinuating that because she is incredibly famous (and talented, and beautiful!), it “helps” to have a boyfriend who is just as famous as her. Oh, and what do you make of Biel’s denial that she’d want to have sex with Jon Hamm/Don Draper? What the hell? Chica needs a wakeup call. The wakeup call shall be called “Your boyfriend looks 12 years old, and if Jon Hamm ever gave you the side-eye, you should thank your lucky stars and take off your panties.” Amen.
