Leonardo DiCaprio gave Blake a $35K sapphire bracelet for her birthday

blakepa007

As their summer romance gently makes its way into fall, Leonardo DiCaprio still seems like he adores Blake Lively. Leo is currently in Australia, filming The Great Gatsby, while Blake does the bicoastal thing, film Gossip Girl in NYC and filming the movie The Savages in LA with Olivier Stone – these are some recent photos from the Savages set, by the way.

You would think that perhaps Leo would invest in a new piece while his lover is hundreds of miles away – you would be wrong. By most accounts, Leo is keeping his head down and awaiting Blake’s next trip to Australia – she’s already flown out for one 4-day visit that we know of, and while she was there, Leo lavished her with attention, taking her out to dinner, organizing private tours of zoos and all of that good stuff. The dude is in love, and he wants to celebrate his love by lavishing all kinds of things on or around Blake. Allegedly, he already bought her a Prius, and there were reports that he dropped $70,000 on gifts for Blake while they were in Italy earlier this summer. So what did Leo do for her birthday? He shelled out some cash for a nice piece of jewelry. Not a ring, but it’s good enough.

Leonardo DiCaprio must be one of the most amazing boyfriends ever! Though a relationship isn’t based on lavish gifts, a girl can’t complain when her boyfriend hands her an incredible piece of jewelry — and that’s exactly what Leo did. He gave Blake Lively a $35,000 sapphire-and-gold bracelet for her 24th b-day on Aug. 25, a source tells Star magazine!

Not only did Gossip Girl star receive an expensive present, but Leo, 36, flew her to Sydney, Australia where he’s currently filming The Great Gatsby so that he could spend time with her.

“He gave her the bracelet as soon as she stepped off the plane,” the source reveals. “She was incredibly touched.”

And Blake may just be expecting another very pricey jewel from Leo quite soon … possibly an engagement ring.

“He says, ‘I could see myself settling down and having kids with this girl,’” shares the source.

[From Hollywood Life]

Blake is a Virgo (like me) – our birthstone is sapphire. It helps that sapphires are one of the prettiest gems (IMO), so I tend to love any story involving the purchase of some kind of sapphire. I really hope that Leo gave her a sapphire something-something, just because I want to imagine him in the jewelry store, telling the salesman about his girlfriend’s birthday. I like that image of him. Could it be that Leo is secretly a nice guy, and a good, present-giving boyfriend? Or are you still suspicious?

As for Blake – bitch has got game. Zoe Kravitz needs to step it up if she’s ever going to bring it like Blake.

Mariah Carey is already showering her babies with diamonds

mariah1

Above is a newish photo of Mariah Carey, allegedly burning off her pregnancy weight by “jogging puppystyle”. I kid you not – that’s her own caption on Twitter. I like how Mariah pops her butt out even when she’s allegedly taking a “candid” photo for Twitter. And who knew that Mariah even owned a fanny pack? So old-school, our Mariah.

Anyway, In Touch Weekly has an excellent story about Mariah, Nick and their love of bling. I know it’s ITW and some of you are going to dismiss this out of hand just because of the source. It’s simply more fun if you believe it, though. And it’s so easy to believe:

Forget blankies and pacifiers – in Mariah Carey’s eyes, diamonds are a toddler’s best friend! Yep, even though the superstar’s twins, Moroccan and Monroe, are only 4 months old, they already have a jewelry collection to rival their mom’s!

Mariah, 42, and husband Nick Cannon, 30, are big fans of all things bling, and they’re sharing their passion with their new babies.

“Mariah bought diamond earrings for her daughter, and she’s hoping to have her ears pierced soon,” a friend says. “Plus, both kids have diamond-encrusted diaper pins.”

As if that weren’t enough, Mariah is also loading up on fancy jewels they can wear when they get older.

“She bought each twin loose diamonds that she put in a vault, to give to them when they can appreciate it.”

[From In Touch Weekly, print edition]

You want to know something weird? I don’t find it weird that Mariah has already bought her daughter diamond earrings. I don’t find it weird that Mariah is buying loose diamonds and keeping it in baby’s first jewelry vault. All of that makes some strange kind of sense to me. I mean, obviously, Mariah is already setting aside jewelry for her children. OBVIOUSLY. Babies need bling (PS… 4-month-olds are not “toddlers”). What I find weird is the “diamond-encrusted diaper pins.” Is that a thing? Do all rich people have those? Are they given as gifts by rich friends to other rich friends? I’ve seen sterling silver baby rattles and those kind of unnecessary “bling” gifts, but diamond diaper pins? Ugh.

Did Sparkles give Kristen Stewart an antique $40,000 love locket?

wenn34452811

I believe it was Peter Hedges, author of the wonderful book What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (the book is much better than the movie, I mean, come on, Juliette Lewis?!!?) who was the first to describe the asinine activities of teenagers by using the phrase “braiding each other’s pubic hair.” He might not have been the actual first person to say that, but it was the first time I had ever read or heard that phrase, and I always associate it with that book. Whenever I write or read about Sparkles and Kristen Stewart, I think about that phrase. They seem like the type to sit around, braiding each other’s… well, you get it. They just seem devoid of adult sexuality – Kristen especially.

Anyway, Sparkles and K-Stew seem to have been separated (in distance) for a few weeks running. I know because I read Hollywood Life, and it seemed like every day that site had yet another report about Kristen and Robert being in different cities, partying without each other, and generally not being the perfect, magical, stuck-up-each-other’s-asses couple. I didn’t think much of it, mostly because I’m rooting for the breakup by the end of the year, but it hasn’t happened YET. Meanwhile, stories like this make me wonder:

Robert Patttinson is making sure that he’s always close to girlfriend Kristen Stewart’s heart. How? By giving her a $40,000 antique gold and platinum locket with photos of them inside and a personalized lovey-dovey inscription.

According to Star magazine, the inscription is in Latin, and says “Even if you can’t see me, my love for you is always there.”

Needless to say, Kristen was bowled over by the gift. “She was really touched—it was so incredibly sweet,” a source told Star.

Rob got Kristen the locket so she feels close to him at all times. The source tells Star, “She’s been in tears, saying she can’t face being away from Rob for too long and that it physically hurts her.”

[From Hollywood Life]

I’ve always believed the relationship dynamic of Sparkles being the one who loves too much, and Kristen being the one uncomfortable, in her immature, lip-biting way, with any sign that they are a couple. Do girls like Kristen like jewelry, tokens of love from their lovers? Or did she just roll her eyes and roll another blunt? Do you think Sparkles is boyfriend-y enough to buy Kristen love tokens? I’m not sure about any of this.

Duchess Kate’s favorite bracelet was given to her by Camilla

63265pcn_kate05

One of the things that bothered me in the run-up to Kate Middleton and Prince William’s wedding was that the British and American tabloids were trying to stir up trouble between Camilla Parker-Bowles (the Duchess of Cornwall) and Kate. I tended to believe that while Camilla might not be Kate’s favorite person in the world, Kate is totally polite to her de facto mother-in-law. Now it’s looking like they’re super-close, though. Camilla gave Kate a charm bracelet (seen in these photos) and Kate has been wearing that thing EVERYWHERE.

C is for Catherine, Cambridge and Camilla! A new charm bracelet that Kate has been wearing recently is a gift from her mother-in-law Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

Kate, 29, was seen with it prominently dangling from her right wrist when she applauded tennis player Andy Murray at Wimbledon Monday and the previous Saturday, when she and Prince William attended a ceremony with the Irish Guards.

On her left hand, of course, rests Princess Diana’s sapphire engagement ring. But it is the newer piece of jewelry, believed to be a wedding present, that’s intriguing royal watchers.

The charm hanging from the bracelet has Kate’s new cypher of a “C” with a curl on one side, and Camilla’s cypher of a “C” below a crown is on the other.

A Palace source confirms to PEOPLE that it was a gift, but wouldn’t say more because it’s “personal.”

[From People]

British sources say that the bracelet was a “personal wedding gift” from Camilla to Kate, but they also note that Kate seems to have two versions of the bracelet, one in yellow gold and one in either white gold or silver. Here’s a question: is it somehow weird to give your daughter-in-law (step-daughter-in-law) a bracelet with YOUR initial and her initial? If it was a wedding gift, wouldn’t it have been more selfless and giving to give her something with Kate’s initial and William’s initial? While I appreciate that Camilla is getting along with Kate, it just seems like it’s overly familiar or somehow too much. I don’t know, though. Maybe it’s completely normal.

Justin Bieber’s $25k custom Baby Stewie bling – cute or such a total idiotic waste?

fp_7063772_ang_bieber_justi
Here’s Justin Bieber wearing a widdle Baby Stewie from Family Guy pendant that’s made with white diamonds and multi-colored rubies. It was custom made and TMZ got some quotes from the jeweler about how Justin helped “design” it and had a “vision” for it, despite the fact that it’s a well known cartoon character of someone else’s copywritten design, and Bieb’s vision came from watching TV. It’s 14 carats and the Bieb dropped $25k on it.

stewie

Now that I’ve done a little digging, it looks like TMZ just got the quotes from the jeweler’s blog, where he has a video of the pendant being made. (Below.) I was kind of fascinated by it, especially by the application of the tiny diamonds, but I also like to watch those shows where they show the manufacturing process for various products.

So is this pendant a total f’ing waste? You know, Kim Kardashian just got an engagement ring that’s 20 carats and cost $2 million dollars. That puts a little diamond encrusted Stewie to shame.

Plus nothing tops the 1/2 a million dollar “crayon bling” necklace that Jamaican singer Sean Kingston had – before he tried to ship it cross country and lost it. Unlike Sean Kingston, Bieber could probably afford this. The Bieb is young and he has a whole career ahead of him to waste money on jewelry and toys, the lucky little shit.

Rachel Zoe got a 10-carat “push present” diamond ring

zoe1

We’ve talked about “push presents” before – those are the “gifts” (usually jewelry) that men give their wives or significant others right after the lady gave birth. I heard of this tradition years before it became de rigueur amongst the Hollywood set, and I always thought it was a nice thing to do, especially if the piece of jewelry is something sentimental or meaningful that goes along with the birth. Like, a platinum locket with photos, or a charm bracelet that will be passed down to your daughter, something like that.

So… what would you get Rachel Zoe, the woman who has everything, in vintage? Well, Rachel’s husband Rodge got her this ring:

neillane

When Rachel Zoe welcomed son Skyler Morrison seven weeks ago, her husband Rodger Berman wanted to get her a little something special to celebrate. Well, make that a whole lot of something. Zoe’s “push present” was a nearly 10 carat cushion-cut diamond ring designed by jeweler Neil Lane.

“Rodger wanted to surprise Rachel with something romantic — and huge,” says Lane of the sparkler, adorned with smaller diamonds in a platinum setting. “I knew she’s wanted a cushion cut forever. It was their first baby and she’s been working so hard that Rodger wanted to do something very special. Rachel was thrilled and hasn’t taken it off since!”

[From People]

A giant diamond ring? I hope little Skylar Morrison gets that in his mommy’s will! Of course he will. He’ll also get her furs and all of her vintage Halston. As for Mommy’s push present… who believes that Rachel actually “pushed”? Now I’m just being negative. I would wear the hell out of this ring, and I don’t even like cushion-cut diamonds that much.

Paul McCartney bought Nancy Shevell a $650K engagement ring, no prenup?!?

wenn2714420

As we found out on Friday, Paul McCartney and his lady love Nancy Shevell are newly engaged. It will be Paul’s third marriage, after his decades-long marriage to Linda and his all too brief marriage to the one-legged hustler. Something tells me that Nancy is a keeper, and that this will be Paul’s final marriage. Nancy seems like a low-key woman, and I sincerely hope they’re happy together. Life & Style reports that Paul is so enamored with Nancy, he went all-out and bought her a $650,000 engagement ring! You can see a photo of the alleged ring here, at Life & Style. Apparently, Nancy “loves it.” Durr.

Paul McCartney’s fiancee Nancy Shevell unveiled her sensational $650,000 engagement ring on Friday, May 6, and Life & Style has the exclusive photos!

“Nancy’s ring is huge! You can tell she was excited to finally be showing it off,” an eyewitness tells Life & Style. “She was glowing and relaxed and looked like she couldn’t be happier. She even gave a thumbs up when asked how her and Paul were doing. Clearly the couple is very happy,” the eyewitness continued.

A source tells Life & Style of the huge round-cut diamond ring, “Paul spent more than $650,000 on the gorgeous ring, and Nancy absolutely loves it!”

Life & Style originally broke the news of the couple’s engagement after dating for four years. Check-out this week’s issue for all of the engagement details!

[From Life & Style]

Who doesn’t like a $650,000 ring? What woman looks at a $650,000 and says, “Nah, I’m good”??? Of course Nancy likes it. And good for them.

Sigh… I really hope she’s not a crazy golddigger. If she was Heather Mills-esque, we would have known by now, right? Her crazy would have already come out, I’m thinking.

UPDATE: Ooooh, The Mail says that Paul isn’t asking Nancy to sign a prenup, just that “McCartney’s lawyers have drawn up a simple one-page document, saying that in the event that the new marriage fails Miss Shevell won’t make a claim on the trust funds of any of his children, and that seems to be enough for them both.” They also say that the wedding will be a smaller, non-glitzy affair.

Here are some photos of Paul in Peru yesterday:

Jessica Biel is giving away all of the gifts Justin Timberlake gave her

wenn5472805

Gerard Butler still hasn’t come to Virginia to propose to me, so my experience with rich boyfriends is… limited. The most expensive thing any dude has ever bought me was… well, I don’t even want to say. It’s embarrassing. Still, I think I may have golddigger tendencies, because if I ever got the chance to land someone decent and rich, I would totally expect expensive gifts. Not quite Style of Jolie junk, but some pretty cocktail rings, and maybe some art and nice purses. Is that too much to ask? Call me old-fashioned, but I consider that kind of stuff an investment. The actual gifts would be an investment for me, and for the guy, they would be an investment in my biscuits.

Jessica Biel has no desire to hang on to those investments, however. At least according to Star Magazine, whose sources claim that Biel is currently giving away some of the higher-ticket items that Justin Timberlake gave her while they were dating:

It’s good to be Jessica Biel’s friend! Since splitting from Justin Timberlake after four years together, the actress is unloading all the love gifts he bought her during their relationship, says an insider.

“She gave a $9,000 Rolex watch to her assistant and a $10,000 diamond bracelet and a one-carat diamond earrings to her producing partner.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition]

I can see giving that stuff away if it’s not really your taste, but who would honestly give away $10,000+ worth of diamonds? Even if they reminded you of your douchey cheater ex, YOU KEEP THE DIAMONDS. The diamonds make it all better. Not really, but they are definitely what you hold on to post-split.

Angelina Jolie’s “The Style of Jolie” jewelry collection preview: lovely or tragic?

wenn5252994

A couple of months ago, it was announced that Angelina Jolie was collaborating with jewelry designer Robert Procop on a jewelry line called… wait for it… The Style of Jolie. Now, you might say to yourself, “Hey, doesn’t Angelina wander around in burlap sack dresses most of the time? Is she really known for her fabulous taste in jewelry?” Exactly. While Angelina’s style choices – both in fashion and jewelry – can be hit or miss (to put it nicely), Angelina’s collaboration does have benefits. First of all, we all get to laugh at The Style of Jolie. Secondly, a percentage of the proceeds from The Style of Jolie will benefit one of Angelina’s charities, Education Partnership for Children of Conflict.

And now we have a preview! Oh, you will not believe how happy this has made me. The video preview has interviews with the men hosting this exhibition/auction/private sale event (I think?), and with Robert Procop, who says in part, “What we’re showing here is a collection that Angelina and I have been working on for the last nine months…Building not only a part of her style but real artistic forms using gemstones as the centerpiece. But our main mission is helping children in crisis by educating children around the world.” Here’s the video preview:

None of it is really my style, but then again, I don’t wear much jewelry. I like rings, and if I ever got my ears re-pierced (they grew over years ago), I would only wear smaller earrings. So much of this stuff looks way too big and too chunky for my tastes… and I generally don’t care for that much yellow gold. Much of it also seems rather dated, influenced by the jewelry styles of Angelina’s youth in the 1970s and 1980s. Is that an excess of topaz I spy? Yikes. But the emeralds are rather beautiful.

I think Angelina was wearing The Style of Jolie at The Tourist’s New York premiere last year – look at those earrings!

Prince William refuses to wear a wedding ring: is this sketchy?

wenn3259197

So I read this report from People Magazine, and my immediate reaction was “Prince William is a balding ball of sketch.” I emailed it to CB and she thinks it’s weird too, and she pays way more attention to stuff like this. According to People Magazine (quoting palace sources), Prince William isn’t going to wear a wedding ring. Like, he doesn’t want people to know that he’s married? I get that some men don’t like jewelry of any kind, and some men simply are bothered by ring-wearing, but isn’t it the kind of thing where most of those men simply eat it and wear the ring?

For her, a band of royal gold. For him … a bare ring finger! Prince William is going to eschew the modern-day tradition of men wearing wedding bands.

A spokeswoman at the palace tells PEOPLE, “There is only going to be one ring, in accordance with the couple’s wishes.”

Not to worry, royal watchers: Kate Middleton will have a wedding band, and it will be made from Welsh gold.

A tiny amount of gold mined from the Welsh mountains (not far from where the couple will start their married life on Anglesey,) has been kept in the royal vaults since it was originally presented to William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.

The Queen has “given a piece of the gold that has been in the family for many years to Prince William as a gift,” a palace source says.

An expert craftsman, unnamed by the palace but likely to be the Crown Jeweler Harry Collins, has been tasked with fashioning the nugget into a piece for Kate.

[From People]

So after nine long WAITY years, our little Waity finally gets the ring, but William won’t wear one. I wonder what his reasoning is? Is it something to do with his military service, I wonder? If it is, I might understand not wanting to wear a ring while you’re on duty or whatever, but I don’t understand putting up a fight about not even having a ring on your wedding day.
