Jessica Simpson gets a ring! (from a jeweler)

90625x12_simpson_b-gr_01

It seemed like Jessica Simpson might be having a really tough time after Tony Romo dumped her a few weeks ago. All of the unnamed sources swarmed to the tabloids to tell all about how mopey and depressed Jessica was, and how her family was “worried” about how she was taking the breakup. But with each new revelation as to how douchey Tony Romo is, including stories about how he left her in an IHOP parking lot, and how he put up a big ALL CAPS sign banning Jessica from his property, Jessica has come out looking better. Not just “better” as in her media coverage has gotten a little bit better, but I tend to think Jessica has been looking better too. She looks healthy and relaxed. Maybe she’s not the sad sack I think of her as.

So after a few public outings last week, Jessica decided to put in a half-hour appearance at a “listening party” for a new artist her dad just signed. The party was held at the home of jeweler Pascal Mouawad, the Lebanese jeweler to the stars, and a big fan of blondes. As a token of affection… or perhaps as just a “get well” gift, Mouawad gave Jessica a $10,000 ring and several other pieces, free of charge. Damn. I wish people would just throw free jewelry at me!

Jessica Simpson made another post-split public appearance Monday, attending a listening party for singer An Ya, who has signed on to her dad’s Papa Joe Records label.

Joined by her mother Tina, Jessica, 29, arrived at the West Hollywood home of famed jeweler Pascal Mouawad around 8:30 p.m. and headed straight upstairs, where she stayed for about 30 minutes. She posed for a few photos and was given thousands of dollars of free jewelry, including a $10,000 ring.

When asked by Usmagazine.com how she was doing, she replied, “Good.”

Simpson looked tan and fit as she worked the room in a sparkly black dress and lots of jewelry.

She also appeared in better spirits, laughing as she made her way down the stairs. She greeted Lane Garrison before heading to dinner at the Beverly Hills Hotel. (Joe Simpson was Garrison’s former youth pastor in Texas.)

After the bash, Jessica Tweeted: “Just left my dad’s new artist An-Ya’s single release celebration with my family. Good luck sweetheart! You are a doll.”

Lindsay Lohan was also in attendance with an entourage of girls, but no Sam Ronson.

[From US Weekly]

Lindsay Lohan probably didn’t get any free jewelry. She probably got a free piece of bread, and was told to move along. If you want to see some of the jewelry pieces Jessica got for free, check out the Mouawad website. Jeez, I could spend hours looking at jewelry. Some of the pieces are just gorgeous – he doesn’t just do big honkin’ jewels, he has some delicate pendants and simple rings and stuff. Very pretty. Jessica is a lucky girl – maybe she and this Mouawad guy will end up dating? I can’t find info on whether he’s married or anything, but I’d say a good word of advice to any woman is: “Date a jeweler.”

Tori Spelling gets a new ring for each wedding anniversary

fp_2173449_tori_spelling_shows_off_pin_thin_legs_in_skintight_mini_

I go back and forth on whether I can’t stand or can mildly tolerate Tori Spelling. She can come across as remarkably likeable, especially in her books, where she’s open and honest about motherhood in a way few celebrities would be. But then she’ll have one of her classic overshare moments and I wind up feeling sick to my stomach.

I’ve never been really impressed with her husband Dean McDermott – he just struck me as someone who jumped on a better gravy train when it passed through town. Not that Tori was innocent in him leaving his wife for her. But he’s slightly redeemed himself. It turns out he does something pretty romantic for their wedding anniversaries: buys her a new ring for each one.

Dean McDermott is keeping his promise to buy Tori Spelling a new wedding ring every anniversary. This year, the actor took his wife to dinner at Hollywood hotspot Mr. Chow and surprised her with a Neil Lane sparkler. “I love the tradition Dean has started,” Spelling exclusively tells PEOPLE. “Every year when he slips it on my ring finger, it reminds me of the day he made me his wife and we started our amazing journey together as one.”

The antique French ring consists of a round white diamond and a fancy round yellow diamond set side by side, symbolizing the expression “Toi et Moi”, or “You and Me”. “I can’t wait to one day pass on my amazing wedding band collection to my kids and their kids,” says Spelling, who is mom to daughter Stella, 11 months and son Liam, 2.

[From People via Gossip Rocks]

I’m not going to lie, a new ring every year would make me like a lot of guys I would otherwise feel neutral about. Not like them enough to marry them or anything, but let’s say he was a friend’s husband and I thought he was just so-so… good jewelry would definitely raise my opinion of him. That’s pretty sad.

You can see a picture of the ring here. It’s not really my taste – I don’t generally care for mixed metals, and the “yellow” diamond (which looks brown in the picture) next to the white diamond doesn’t really do it for me. I would like it if it were all one metal and two matching diamonds. But I’m going to let Dean slide on this one, because it’s the thought that counts. He should probably send me some jewelry for that.

Here are Tori and Dean out celebrating their anniversary at Mr. Chows on May 7th. Images thanks to Fame Pictures .

Nicole Richie’s jewelry line sells out, her maternity clothing line is coming

wenn2341674
Nicole Richie’s jewelry line “House of Harlow 1960” has sold out of inventory in pre-sale orders. This was before the line was even featured in stores, that’s how much people wanted Richie’s baubles. I’ve seen some of the stuff featured in People Magazine, and I guess the best way to say it would be that it’s just not my taste. Lots of 1960s and 1970s inspired stuff, lots of feathery, dangling, jangling pieces that look like they were found on Fleetwood Mac’s tour bus circa 1972. But I’m sure a lot of women like that look, obviously, or the line wouldn’t have sold out. Here’s a site with some good pictures of the pieces.

So with her jewelry line a resounding success, the next step for global domination is… a celebrity fashion line. But not just any fashion – maternity wear. Considering Nicole looks incredible pregnant (better than she looks non-pregnant, honestly), a maternity line is a great choice. Showbiz Spy has more:

Nicole Richie is set to launch her own maternity line.

Richie – who is expecting her second child with boyfriend Joel Madden – says she’s focusing on a brand for her fellow expectant mothers.

She tells People magazine, “There will be a maternity line, a clothing line, shoes, belts, everything.”

Richie already has a successful jewelry line called House of Harlow 1960.

According to People, the jewelry line sold out of inventory through pre-order sales before Richie could get her line in stores.

As for her pregnancy, the Richie says she’s doing great: “I’m working a lot; I have great friends and a great family. … All of my dreams are coming true.”

From Showbiz Spy

I’ve long stopped worrying about my girl, and don’t even ask why I have such affection for her. I have no idea, but I was really concerned that her relationship with Joel Madden was sketchy at best. But ever since they announced that they were expecting their second child, I have become a believer! There’s even a rumor going around that Nicole is expecting twins, but as far as I can see, it was just made up by Star Magazine.

Jennifer Lopez decides not to retun $50,000 of diamonds

28776PCN_JLo

For the launch of Andrea Lieberman’s fashion line, ALC, at Barneys, Jennifer Lopez borrowed $50,000 in diamonds from Swiss billionaire Robert Mouawad to glam up her outfit. Several other stars, including Gwen Stephani and Ellen Pompeo, also borrowed jewelry for the event, but J-Lo was the only one who didn’t return her jewels. Mouawad got a call from her manager saying that she wanted to keep the diamonds, to which Mouawad’s people responded, “eh, what’s $50,000?”

“We received a call from [her manager] Benny Medina, informing us that Jennifer was going to keep the jewelry,” an insider said. “As far as Mr. Mouawad is concerned, Jennifer can have whatever she wants, but a premature demand seemed presumptuous.”

There’s no ill will, however. “Mr. Mouawad is the Swiss billionaire who purchased the 60-carat flawless Mondera Diamond for $50 million,” said our source. “He will lose no sleep over $50,000, and frankly, Jennifer’s endorsement is priceless.”

Medina, reached in Santiago, Chile – where J.Lo’s hubby, Marc Anthony, was being honored and performing sold-out shows – told Page Six: “There was no demand whatsoever. There was an offer. It was very clear.” In return for hosting the show for her friend, Lopez would be given the entire collection of jewelry and clothes, he said.

“She was the only celebrity whose name was on the invite. She would have done it for nothing,” Medina explained. “But this was how it was presented. It was quite a generous offer.”

[From NY Post]

The article is unclear on the timing, but it it seems as if the arrangement was made beforehand, not the next day. Which would mean that J-Lo received the diamonds, as well as the entire ALC clothing line, for one night of hosting. Talk about a free ride.

Somehow I doubt that there was “no ill-will.” Lopez is known for being a diva, expecting what she wants when she wants it. I wouldn’t be surprised if she decided she wanted the diamonds, and that was that – leaving her people to take care of the cleanup. I wonder if Mouawad even knows who J-Lo is. His spokesperson said that her endorsement is “priceless,” but she’s barely on the radar anymore. Her movies are terrible, she hasn’t released a good album in years, and there are constant rumors about her and Marc Anthony breaking up. But I guess when you’re a Swiss billionaire who owns a $50 million diamond, $50,000 here and there really isn’t even a blip on your radar.

Here’s Jennifer “showing off her glamorous locks” according to Pacific Coast News (they’re being a little generous in their description) as she leaves the Byron & Tracey hair salon in Beverly Hills on Saturday. Images thanks to Pacific Coast News.

Jewelry designer made Rourke’s Loki pendant after one for her lost pooch

untitled-1
A NY woman who designs custom jewelry in her spare time was inspired to create a special necklace featuring Mickey Rourke’s beloved dog, Loki, when she heard that the chihuahua had passed. Betina Wassermann works during the day as a marketing manager and makes custom-made pendants as a hobby. She lost her beloved dog four months ago, and made herself a pendant with the photo of her dearly missed pooch. Wasserman was so touched by the story of Rourke losing Loki that she made one for him too and sent it off to his NY publicist. Not only did Rourke personally call her to thank her, he also proudly wore the pendant to the Oscars. Wasserman is being overwhelmed with requests for similar pendants on her website, but she says she’ll only create custom work and will not reproduce the Loki necklace. How nice is that?

Queens girl Betina Wassermann may have been the biggest winner on Oscar night – and she’s never been in a movie.

When Mickey Rourke walked the red carpet in his white Jean Paul Gaultier suit, he was wearing an eye-catching accessory – a necklace charm that featured a picture of his Chihuahua, Loki, who recently died at age 17.

Wassermann, a full-time marketing manager who does crafts on the weekends, designed Rourke’s chic canine locket.

“I’m just some girl from Queens who crafts on the weekends. When I saw it at the Oscars and Ryan Seacrest commented on it, I thought I was going to have a heart attack,” said Wassermann. “That necklace got more press than frickin’ Fred Leighton million-dollar diamonds!”

The Flushing gal had sent the double-sided photo charm, made out of glass and silver, to the actor’s New York publicist on a whim.

She was inspired to create the necklace by the loss of her own pooch – and wears a similar one every day.

“I lost my dog, Igor, four months ago, and I’m still crying myself to sleep. I need to see a psychiatrist,” said the 40-ish designer of her Chinese crested.

“So when my colleague told me Loki died, I knew I had to make one for him. I knew how much he loved his dog and it was so horrible to lose her right before the Oscars.”

She was on a mission.

After a mass e-mail to her friends and copious Google searches, someone turned up the contact information for Rourke’s publicist. Off went the necklace. And a day later, she got a voice mail that she would play over and over for all her friends.

“He says, ‘Hi, I’m Mickey Rourke,’ and I thought I was going to throw up,” she recalled. “Then he said that was such a kind gesture and then he says, ‘I got it on and I ain’t takin’ it off.’ ”

And he didn’t.

Rourke wore the necklace to the Independent Spirit Awards and the Oscars.

“This gift was meant purely because I love dogs,” Wassermann said. “It means, ‘I love you, Mickey Rourke . . . and I just lost a dog, so this is all about good karma.’ ”

Wassermann isn’t in the jewelry business just for fun. She sells her $30 glass-and-silver necklaces at local flea markets and craft fares and, about one a month, on her Web site, wickedworld.etsy.com.

“Now I’m getting orders for everyone’s deceased pooch,” she said. “It’s ridiculous!”

[From NY Post]

I’m such a softie, and this story made me get misty-eyed. I want to give Mickey Rourke and Betina Wasserman hugs and puppies.

Mickey Rourke is said to be looking for another dog that he is planning to name “Oscar.” Loki is irreplaceable but sometimes a new friend can help with the grieving process.

Paris Hilton’s home burglarized of more than $2 million in jewelry

fp_1745283_paris_nicky_excl_fp_121808

Paris Hilton’s home was robbed early this morning, according to the LAPD. Paris lives in a nice gated community, but that gate can only do so much – especially when you leave a door unlocked. That’s right, the robber walked right in. Luckily Paris wasn’t home at the time. Five in the morning for her is like three in the afternoon for the rest of us. She’s on a totally different, nightclub-based schedule.

The robber took about $2 million worth of Hilton’s jewelry and other items.

An estimated $2 million worth of jewelry and other belongings was stolen from the home of Paris Hilton, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The incident occurred at 5 a.m. at Hilton’s Hollywood Hills home on Clarendon Street. The burglar, or burglars, got into the house through an unlocked door, according to LAPD sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing.

According to detectives, a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and gloves forced entry through the front door, ransacked Hilton’s bedroom, took unknown property and fled, said Officer April Harding… Detectives from the LAPD’s Van Nuys division were at the Hilton home this morning conducting interviews. The sources told The Times that Hilton was not home at the time of the burglary and that the house is equipped with security video equipment.

Harding said a security guard reported a forced entry at 5 a.m. at the Sherman Oaks home. The guard described the burglar as a man in a hooded sweatshirt and gloves… Hilton recently told Esquire magazine: “The best thing I’ve ever bought with money is my house. Having a nightclub in your house really helps for having a party.”

[From the L.A. Times]

Police said they don’t believe the burglary at Hilton’s house is connected to a string of burglaries in the Hollywood Hills. Those all involved teams of two or three men who were cloaked head to toe in black and seemed to be pretty savvy. This is one guy in a sweatshirt and some gloves who walked in an unlocked door.

I’m assuming the guard was Paris’ private security and not the neighborhood’s guard. I’m also curious if he gave the description of the burglar based on the security video equipment in her home or if he actually saw the guy. If the man is Paris’ private security, I’m guessing he’s going to be in a lot of trouble over that unlocked door.

It’s probably safe to assume that Paris has insurance and won’t be out much in terms of actual cash value. But that feeling of your privacy being violated and victimized is really horrendous. And even though I don’t really care for her, and it’s hard to say nice things about Paris, no one deserves to have their home burglarized.

Lindsay gets $22k ring birthday present from Samantha

I never thought I’d say this, but I am really impressed with Lindsay Lohan. At least for her. If you were to hold Lindsay up to a regular person, probably not so much. But considering she’s nearly on par with Paris Hilton, she’s made some pretty big changes in her life – for the better. Lindsay’s relationship with DJ Samantha Ronson has really seemed to mellow her. She’s been acting much more mature lately, focusing on her work, not getting into any car accidents, and seemingly not drinking to such a ridiculous extent that she ends up in rehab. All big steps for her.

And it seems pretty clear that Sam is just as in to Lindsay. For her 22nd birthday last week, Ronson bought her a $22,000 diamond ring from Cartier. Not too shabby.

Samantha — the sister of super-producer Mark Ronson — reportedly splashed out the hefty amount on a Cartier diamond ring for Lindsay’s 22nd birthday.

Lindsay was later seen sporting the band when she and Samantha were shopping in LA. A source says, “Sam took Lindsay shopping to celebrate her 22nd birthday.

“Although Lindsay is the major breadwinner, Sam has her own money and is very proud.

“It’s not an engagement ring – simply a token of her commitment. Lindsay is thrilled and she and Sam are very content.”

[From Showbiz Spy]

According to a good deal of internet gossip, Sam not only pays her own way, she generally pays for Lindsay too. Considering the rumors of money problems that have been hounding LiLo for well over a year, that’s not too surprising.

Lohan made a cryptic comment about her birthday wish to Ryan Seacrest – and everyone is saying it’s as good as if she actually admitted that she and Sam are together.

“I just wanna live a happy, healthy year, continue on the path that I’ve been on and be with the person that I care about. And my family.”

[From the Mirror]

Samantha also posted a picture of the two of them kissing on her MySpace page. I’m not sure what else the two of them can do to make it more obvious to us that they’re together. You know, except actually publicly acknowledging it.

Here’s Lindsay and Samantha on their way to eat with friends at La Scala in Beverly Hills on July 2nd, Lindsay’s birthday. They went to Cartier earlier that day. Images thanks to WENN

Ashton Kutcher’s stupid show strikes again

Earlier this week, we told you about E!’s new reality show, “Pop Fiction,” in which celebrities engineer pranks on the paparazzi and tabloids, to prove….I don’t know what. That you can’t believe what you see in a photo? The show was responsible for Paris walking around Hollywood with a fake shaman and Avril Lavigne shopping at baby stores wearing a prosthetic pregnancy belly. Well, it looks like the item we ran last week about Slater– er, I mean, Mario Lopez giving his BFF Eva Longoria a gold necklace from Cartier was all a big prank for “Pop Fiction,” too. Hardy har har.

It’s true that Eva Longoria-Parker and Mario Lopez are friends, but the Cartier necklace he gave her on March 6 is fake! In Touch can exclusively reveal that the pair were setting up a skit for Ashton Kutcher’s new reality show with a twist, Pop Fiction. In fact, a video crew even followed the friends to the Hornitos tequila-sponsored opening of Eva’s restaurant Beso later that night. The show picks up where Punk’d left off, with celebrities acting out fake scenes in front of paparazzi.

[From In Touch]

Big deal. It was pretty much a non-story anyway. Some oily, washed-up former teen star who’s hanging around with an about-to-be-over “It” girl, hoping some of her fame will rub off, pulls a prank on the paparazzi. Wow. That Ashton, he sure is clever!

I’m still confused about the concept of the show. Celebrities don’t like it when tabloids make up false stories about them, so they….intentionally set up false stories? Maybe I need to smoke what Ashton’s smoking, and then I’ll get it.

Mario Lopez gives Eva Longoria Cartier necklace for opening of Beso

Eva Longoria and Mario Lopez have been claiming they’re best friends – and only best friends – since… well forever. But there’s always been something a little fishy about their relationship – maybe it’s just because you don’t often see a lot of opposite sex best friends in Hollywood. And you rarely see a real, platonic friendship when the guy is a total womanizing philanderer. But Eva’s husband Tony Parker must be totally cool with it, because Lopez and Longoria are seen out together all the time. Yesterday Mario gave Eva a gold Cartier necklace, supposedly as a congratulatory present for the opening of her new restaurant Beso. Though it could also be a “thanks for being my f*** buddy” necklace too.

Who’s a lucky girl? Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria Parker received an expensive gift from pal Mario Lopez as the two lunched together in Hollywood.

With her basket ball star husband Tony Parker away on work duties, Eva, 33, joined Mario for an outdoor lunch at Café Med in LA.

Dancer and TV presenter Lopez turned up with a gold necklace in a Cartier bag for the already pampered Hollywood star.

An attentive Mario hopped out his seat to help Eva put the gold necklace on, and she seemed pretty pleased with the spontaneous gesture.

[From the Daily Mail]

Haha, yeah right. I’m sure Mario was just being attentive. I’m under the impression that men rarely give platonic female friends jewelry – even if they’ve got the money like Mario. It’s a pretty intimate gift. Next week he’ll be buying her some lingerie to congratulate her for walking down the street without falling or something. The Daily Mail notes several times that Tony Parker was “away on work duties.” I have no idea what they’re implying there.

The opening of Beso supposedly went pretty well, with several of Eva’s cast mates showing up.

Eva attended the opening of restaurant Beso, which means ‘kiss’in Spanish in Hollywood last night. With husband Tony Parker away on basketball duties, Eva was supported in his absence by her Desperate Housewives co-stars Nicolette Sheridan and Felicity Huffman. An excited Eva told People magazine: “Everything is painted, every candle is lit, every glass has arrived So far there has not been a catastrophic emergency happening. So I am very excited.”

And unlike spoiled Gabby on on Desperate Housewives, Longoria does actually know how to cook if her skills were called upon. She said: “I’ll go to a restaurant and if I have an amazing dish I’ll go to the kitchen and ask the chef how he made it. And then I’ll make him teach me. You can ask [my husband] Tony [Parker], I do it all the time. I’ll leave him at the table for like 30 minutes.”

[From the Daily Mail]

I’m sure that’s totally true Eva. Mario must love you because you’re just so down to earth. Er, I mean Tony. I’m sure it’s your great cooking that keeps Mario coming over to your house all the time. Hmm, what else can I say that makes it sound like Mario and Eva are sleeping together? I’ve probably done enough. At least she’s getting some good jewelry out of it.

Here’s Mario fasting his gift around Eva’s neck at lunch yesterday. Images thanks to Splash Here are the arrivals for the opening of Beso last night: Eva with chef Todd English, Christine Lakin, Constance Marie, Dana Delany, Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy, Karina Smirnoff and Mario Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Roselyn Sanchez and Eric Winter, Sheryl Crow, and Sarah Lancaster. Images thanks to PR Photos.

Catherine Zeta-Jones wears $2 million of diamonds

top-jtm-029950.jpg

I pride myself on being a down-to-earth sort who shops at Old Navy and Ross and still buys her jewelry at Claire’s. But every once in a while, even I become stricken with envy at the sight of beautiful, sparkly jewelry. The older I get, the prettier it all gets. A lot of people would argue that the best part of being a celebrity is all the swag. Catherine Zeta-Jones was recently the guest of honor for the high-end jewelry line Di Modolo, and showed up wearing over $2 million in diamonds. The article doesn’t say if the diamonds were her own, given to her by Di Modolo, or just on loan, but I think it’s safe to say that most of us are pretty freaking jealous. Don’t lie guys, you find the sparkles intriguing too. I know how men are with shiny objects.

“A svelte Catherine Zeta-Jones sparkled in £1million of diamonds at a party to launch a high-end jewelry range. The Ocean’s 13 star was in attendance as the face of the Di Modolo line, and she certainly dressed for the occasion, wearing a purple strapless cocktail dress accessorized with a diamond necklace and matching earrings. Zeta Jones, 38, was the guest of honor at the unveiling of a watch range by jewelers Di Modolo in New York, and was clearly enjoying being the centre of attention – or maybe she just enjoyed wearing the diamonds. Looking a million dollars – literally – Zeta Jones showed off her trim figure, and her beautifully shiny locks.

“Husband and double Oscar winner husband Michael Douglas, recently revealed just what attracted him to his Welsh-born wife. He said: ‘We share the same birthday. We both like golf. We both like to do the crossword puzzle. We both love the news.’ And surprisingly, the Hollywood power couple don’t like watching films either. ‘Neither of us is a big movie fan’, said 68-year-old Michael. ‘We like making movies but we do have to make an effort to watch them. We’re big on kids’ movies, though’. The couple’s two children Dylan, 7, and Carys, 4 are what really keeps them busy – and close. Douglas told the Daily Express: ‘I go to school events and recitals and all that stuff. I pick them up after school. I love it. It keeps me out of trouble. We spend a lot of time together as a family unit.’”

[From the Daily Mail]

That’s so freaking sweet. If my heart hadn’t turned stone cold recently, I would find that really touching. So know that intellectually, I find that really touching. I know that people mocked Douglas and Zeta-Jones a lot for their age difference, but I think they seem really happy and well-adjusted. They definitely do a good job of laying pretty low, while still being glamorous. My ultimate goal in life. That’s pretty classy. They’re not in your face or anything. Now if only I could find a knock-off for $2 million worth of diamonds from Claire’s, I’d be all set.
