Demi Lovato was bullied for her weight, cut herself at age 11

sonny2

It’s been a rough ride for Demi Lovato, who has spent the last several months narrowly avoiding becoming a premature Disney casualty. Just a few years ago, Demi was still denying that she cut herself despite plenty of pictorial evidence to the contrary. Messy breakups with Joe Jonas and the suspicious influence of Wilmer Valderrama (not to mention his continued involvement in her life) certainly didn’t help matters either. Then, she had a physical altercation with one of her backup dancers on tour and subsequently checked herself into treatment for both emotional and physical reasons, but she did her rehab time without any additional outward fuss (and is possibly still continuing out-patient treatment for the eating disorder). Now, Demi’s coming clean to “Good Morning America” about her extended affair with both eating disorders and cutting:

Demi told GMA anchor Robin Roberts that she was constantly bullied in school for her weight. “I literally didn’t know why they were being so mean to me. And when I would ask them why, they would just say, ‘Well, you’re fat.’”

The Disney star admitted that she developed an eating disorder early on, and has been having issues with food ever since. “I was compulsively overeating when I was eight years old. … So, I guess, for the past 10 years I’ve had a really unhealthy relationship with food.” While her food issues began at age eight, Demi says it wasn’t until age 11 that she began to cut herself. She explained her reasoning for the cutting, telling Robin:

“It was a way of expressing my own shame, of myself, on my own body. I was matching the inside to the outside. And there were some times where my emotions were just so built up, I didn’t know what to do. The only way that I could get instant gratification was through an immediate release on myself.”

[From Celebuzz]

Lovato’s been talking a lot lately, which is key to making amends in recovery, although I suspect the fact that she’s been talking a lot to the press is because Disney’s forcing her to do it. Still, the fact that Demi’s owning up to the fact that teen stardom isn’t all sweetness and light (such as her recent admission of a nervous breakdown in Seventeen magazine) might actually be beneficial to her fans. Included in her fandom is my own 10-year-old daughter, with whom I have discussed Lovato’s troubles in an attempt to curb the Disney idol worship. Of course, Lovato herself will now be less of a Disney presence since she just announced that she’s quitting her show, “Sonny with a Chance” too:

“It made sense for me to go ahead and leave the show to focus on my music,” Lovato, 18, tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “It’s kind of sad for me that a chapter of my life has ended but there couldn’t be a better time for me to move on.”

“I don’t think going back to Sonny would be healthy for my recovery,” says Lovato, who returned to Los Angeles in January after completing three months of residential treatment. “Being in front of a camera would make me nervous.”

And she has the support of the Disney Channel.

“We respect Demi’s decision to focus fulltime on her music and not immediately return to her acting career,” a rep for the Disney Channel said in a statement. “She is a talented young woman and our hearts are with her as she continues to take action to improve her health and bounce back from adversity.”

Lovato’s career took off after starring in the Disney Channel’s 2008 original movie Camp Rock, opposite the Jonas Brothers. Next came “Sonny with a Chance,” which debuted in 2010.

But even without its main star, the show will still go on: the series is being reinvented as a sketch comedy program called “So Random!,” which will debut in June.

Lovato, who will continue to record under Disney’s label Hollywood Records, calls her decision to walk away from her TV gig “nerve-racking.” But, she says, “I’m really excited to see where everything goes.”

[From People]

Well, Disney’s not really losing anything here because they can easily spin off “So Random!,” which is the series-within-a-series featured within “Sonny” itself. It appears slightly ominous that Demi’s decision to focus on the music doesn’t mean striking out on her own and finding a new record label but, instead, just sticking with the easier option of Disney’s label. Unfortunately, she’s probably contractually bound to continue on with Disney, which is probably actually the case since they have put up the appearance of letting her “Sonny” obligations fall by the wayside. At this point, Lovato herself is merely 18-years-old, but she’s been with Disney for a few years already. I’d be interested to know whether she signed new contracts with Disney after she became an adult, or if she’s still fulfilling old agreements. It’s amazing how the law generally protects minors from entering into contracts, but the entertainment business is a whole different matter when stage parents and multimillions of dollars are involved.

Jonas Bros mom doesn’t think they’re ‘above being seduced’

04_Features - MAY
No joking. The Jonas Brothers appear on July’s cover of Good Housekeeping with their mother, and their mom sat down for the interview (story via US Weekly). The Jonas Brothers are famously virgins, and they wear their purity rings proudly, and mom Denise seems to be defending them and their chastity. Denise Jonas says she totally gets that her son are “men” who have “desires” and “testosterone”. Then Denise comes out with this bold statement – “I don’t think they’re above or beyond being seduced.” Seduced? Because it’s the girls who are sluts, right? Not her little boys:

The Jonas Brothers may be virgins, but that doesn’t mean they don’t look at women, their mom admits in the July issue of Good Housekeeping.

“They are men. They have desires. They have testosterone,” Denise says of Kevin, 21, Joe, 19 and Nick, 16. “If they make a mistake, I’m not going to hate them. I don’t think they’re above or beyond being seduced.”

“They have been hurt in relationships by girls,” Denise goes on — without naming names. (Nick has dated both Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, while Taylor Swift has written songs about her split from Joe.)

“But it’s just about growing up and learning what it means to be in a relationship,” she continues.

Denise defends her sons’ decision to wear purity rings and talk about waiting until marriage to have sex.

“They’ve been criticized for proclaiming things they never proclaimed. And what’s the criticism?” she asks. “They don’t want to go out there giving everyone an STD? What’s so terrible about that?”

When her boys do fall in love, she only has one requirement before accepting her: “She must sincerely and totally love my son!”

So how to land a Jonas Bro?

“People always ask, ‘What’s a girl have to do to get your attention?’” Joe says. “She has to be good to Mom.”

[From US Weekly]

I don’t have a problem with the whole idea of waiting until you’re in love, or waiting until marriage, or teaching kids that it’s okay to be a virgin, et cetera. But there comes a point – perhaps when you, your brothers, and your mother are appearing on the cover of Good Housekeeping - when parts of it become a little creepy. Like Stephen King’s Carrie creepy. Like Denise Jonas is going to start talking about “dirty pillows”. It becomes less about waiting for love, respect and safety, suddenly virginity and “purity” becomes a fetish. Maybe I’m totally off-base, though. I think it’s great that there’s a movement afoot to teach both boys and girls to wait to have sex. But, I hope these kids realize that their virginity isn’t the property of their parents, that having sex doesn’t make them bad people, and that it’s not the end of the world to experiment and find what gives them pleasure.

Disney creating new “We Are the World” starring Miley and Jo. Bros

29690PCN_Choice

Disney has decided to create their own version of the oft-mocked 1985 song “We are the World,” which was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie. The original was performed by a “supergroup” of singers and musicians including Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, Diana Ross, Daryl Hall, Smokey Robinson, and many others. The Disney version will star Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers and will be called “Pass It On.”

E! News has learned that Miley Cyrus is set to reteam with her ex-flame (and Mouse House coworker) Nick Jonas as part of an all-star recording session for a song called “Pass It On”—a track an inside source calls “Disney’s version of ‘We Are the World.’ It’s about kindness and passing it on.”

Fellow Jonases Joe and Kevin are also among those on board for the track, which is being recorded later this week. The tune was penned by Adam Anders and Nikki Hassman, who wrote Cyrus’ Hannah Montana hit “Hoedown Throwdown.”

Cyrus, the JoBros and other Disney musicmakers will shoot the “Pass It On” video on Saturday.

[From E!]

The article says that the song will feature Miley, the Jonas Bros. and “other Disney musicmakers,” so one can assume the video will also include stars like Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato (who Disney is trying to mold into the next Miley).

The announcement of the song once again brought up the history between Miley and Nick Jonas. Miley denies the rumors that there is any kind of bad blood between them, but come on – it’s drama queen Miley Cyrus we’re talking about. She recently said that Jennifer Aniston is “so classy” because she handled her divorce with Brad so well. Um, Miley? We are still getting soundbytes from Jen about Brad four years after their divorce. Don’t tell me we’ll still be fed the “Nick and I are good friends” line in half a decade.

Header photo of Miley Cyrus whispering something into Nick Jonas’s ear as they arrive at the 2009 Kids Choice Awards in L.A. on Saturday. It certainly doesn’t look like there’s any bad blood between them. Image thanks to Pacific Coast News.

Jonas Brothers’ movie isn’t as big a hit as Hannah Montana

It was projected to be the number one film at the box office this weekend, with movie industry pundits predicting a bigger debut than the smash hit Hannah Montana movie last year. While The Jonas Brothers: 3D Concert Experience did well, finishing out the weekend at number two – it was not quite the blockbuster everyone thought it would be. In fact, when compared to last year’s Miley Cyrus 3D movie, it’s a bit of a disappointment. Turns out that not every 12-year-old girl in the country wants to see these guys in all their 3D glory.

A funny thing happened on the way to Jonas Brothers world domination: a second-place finish.
Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience grossed an estimated $12.7 million Friday-Sunday, failing to live up to the multimedia hype, and failing to unseat Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail as the No. 1 movie at the weekend box office.

Shockingly, the Jonases’ movie not only didn’t live up to initial projections, it didn’t live up to downwardly revised estimates following its underwhelming Friday debut.

What happened?

“That’s kind of what we’re trying to figure out,” Exhibitor Relations’ Jeff Bock said today.

Exhibitor Relations and other box-office trackers figured on the Disney release to dominate the weekend with a $30 million Friday-Sunday gross. Rival studios mostly stayed out of the Jonases’ way—a sign that they, too, believed the band’s movie would be big.

Then came opening day. The movie grossed an estimated $4.8 million, tops for the day, but barely enough to hold off the week-old Madea Goes to Jail. Exhibitor Relations now figured the movie was on track for a $17 million weekend.

Then came Saturday. Instead of improving on Friday’s gross, as family films like the G-rated Jonas effort almost always do, its take dropped, to an estimated $4.5 million.

Today, the film is expected to gross $3.4 million. At this point, Bock said he wouldn’t be surprised if the film failed to meet that benchmark, too. And if it does—fail to meet the benchmark—the movie is in danger of falling to third place in the weekend standings behind the Oscar-boosted Slumdog Millionaire, which currently stands in third place, with $12.2 million.

If all this explains how the movie underperfomed, then the larger question remains: Why did it underperform?

A few theories:
1. It’s Hannah Montana’s fault. The $30 million estimate didn’t come out of thin air, it was based on what Disney’s Miley Cyrus 3D/IMAX concert movie did in its opening weekend, which was $31.1 million—and on half as many screens (683) as the Jonas Brothers film (1,271).

As it turned out, there might have been a couple of big overlooked differences between Cyrus and the Jonases.

“The Jonas Brothers don’t have a TV show,” Box Office Mojo’s Brandon Gray said today. Bock argued for the gender gap. “Those tween girls are looking up to girls, not boys, for their source of inspiration,” he said.

2. It’s the recession’s fault. The Cyrus movie was released in February 2008, before the economic meltdown. And while the downturn hasn’t yet hurt Hollywood overall—attendance is up 11 percent over this time last year—the jury’s out on pricier 3D and IMAX movies. Over the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend, it was the 2D Paul Blart: Mall Cop that dominated, not the 3D My Bloody Valentine, which performed solidly, but not as big as expected.

“People aren’t shilling out top dollar for these like they were a year ago,” Bock said.

3. It’s the Jonas Brothers’ fault. On cable, their Camp Rock was big, but not as big as High School Musical 2, nor as hearty as the original HSM. At the box office, their concert film was big for a concert film (third-biggest opening of all-time, per Box Office Mojo stats), but not even half as big as Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus.

“The Jonas Brothers did not live up to the hype,” Gray said. “They were treated like the second coming of the Beatles, and they’re not.”

[From E!Online]

I’m torn on this one. I was giddy to learn that The Jonas Brothers movie might make a million less dollars than they’d anticipated – possibly preventing these little goody-two-shoes snots from buying a new Ferrari, or -gasp!- skimping on the hair products. But I was dismayed to find out that the movie responsible for knocking them out of the number one spot was yet another piece of Tyler Perry garbage. Madea Goes to Jail? Really? Is that what people are spending their hard-earned money on this weekend?

A match made in preteen heaven: Twilight + Jonas Brothers

The Jonas Brothers
“When their powers combine…” This is one of the most brilliant marketing strategies I have ever heard. The Twilight people have asked the Jonas Brothers to write a song for the next movie in the series, New Moon. The soundtrack for the first film did very well on the charts, and adding a Jonas Brothers song to the next one could prove to be a money maker.

“The movie was obviously a huge success, and if they asked us to be a part of [the sequel], that would be great,” Nick Jonas said when we caught up with him and his brothers Monday, revealing that the trio are fans of Stephenie Meyer’s vampire franchise and would be willing to write a song for the “New Moon” soundtrack. “It would be really cool.”

“That would be really cool,” agreed Joe and Kevin.

In November, the “Twilight” soundtrack opened in the top slot of the Billboard albums chart and continued its strong sales throughout the film’s box-office run. Staying true to Meyer’s close relationship with music — and director Catherine Hardwicke’s love for mixing her images with disparate tunes — the soundtrack featured such diverse bands as Paramore, Perry Farrell, Linkin Park and Collective Soul.

Next month, Chris Weitz begins filming the sequel and will at some point start making his choices for a “New Moon” album. Whether the Grammy-nominated Jonas Brothers would write a “Twilight”-themed track remains unclear, but this much is certain: Before they can do much more “New Moon” campaigning, the chart-topping trio still need to actually sit down and watch “Twilight.”

“I haven’t seen it,” Joe admitted. “But I have heard it’s a great movie.”

“We’re looking forward to seeing it,” Nick added. “We’ve been a little busy, so it’s kinda hard to get the movies, but we’ll see it.”

[from MTV]

Although they haven’t actually seen the movie, The Jonas Brothers realized how popular the film was when they decided to get a bite to eat on the night of the premiere.

Edward and his Cullen family are so popular, in fact, that “Twilight” recently proved its power as a franchise by distracting screaming teens long enough for the JoBros to grab a pizza.

“I think this is really funny,” Kevin remembered of the first time the trio realized how huge “Twilight” was. “We were in town [the day of the 'Twilight' premiere], because we were working all day on our TV show.

“We weren’t able to make it to the premiere. We were invited, but we couldn’t make it,” Kevin continued. “That night, we were starving coming home from work. And we wanted to get pizza.”

While thousands of Twilighters screamed their heads off, unaware, the rock sensations snuck into a restaurant across the street and had a rare, peaceful meal. “The pizza place that we ordered from just happened to be across the street from the premiere,” Kevin laughed. “And so, we come up driving, and didn’t realize that it was the ‘Twilight’ premiere. It was one of those comical moments that was really funny for us.”

[from MTV]

The Twilight saga and The Jonas Brothers have a lot of the same fan base, as evidenced by the pizza story, so I’m not surprised that this joint venture was accepted by the boy band. And this move will only increase their popularity among the Twilight crowd – it won’t be surprising if the song, as well as the soundtrack, hits top ten.

Can you imagine what the premiere for the new movie will be like? Robert Pattinson and the Jonas Brothers in a photo together – a preeteen girl’s dream. I would not want to be doing crowd control that night.

Jonas Brothers increase security to protect their underpants

wenn2240496
Apparently rabid teenage fans are starting to get a bit much for the Jonas Brothers. They’ve had to amp up security – to protect their underpants.

Teen pop sensations the Jonas Brothers have reportedly increased security after an unidentified group of fans began running off with their underwear.

During the band’s recent tour, the trio reportedly began noticing pairs of boxer shorts disappearing from their dressing rooms and initially passed it off as a gag.

But when notes began to turn up in the guys’ garment bags proclaiming: “Your undies are safe with us… The Undie Snatchers!” the brothers are said to have hired more security staff to keep their possessions safe.

According to the National Enquirer, all guests including crew, press and friends, must now be escorted to the Jonas’ dressing rooms backstage.

Contact Music

I would have been by far more impressed if they were stealing the underwear while the lads were still wearing them, but I guess you can’t have everything. A more simple solution might be to install a lock on their suitcase, instead of getting security to escort guests backstage. Presumably there was already a security presence screening who could come backstage.

The Jonas Brothers will be performing at the children’s inauguration party in Washington, along with Miley Cyrus. Since Miley is the ex-girlfriend of Nick, I’m hoping for one of those embarrassing hallway moments, like you used to suffer at school. Those traveling, tutored teens deserve to have some semblance of a normal childhood, and not knowing how to act around your ex-girlfriend who bad-mouthed you should be included. Of course, us common folk get a comment written on the back of a high school toilet door, not a song for the whole world to hear.

Taylor Swift and Joe Jonas spend awkward New Year’s Eve in NYC

taylorjoe
Teen country singer Taylor Swift and one of the Jonas Brothers, Joe- the really girly-looking one with the flat-ironed hair, if that helps you distinguish – had a short lived romance last year that ended, according to Swift, with a 27-second phone call from Joe. Since then, Joe has been spotted out with actress Camilla Belle, while Taylor has been openly nursing a broken heart. So you can imagine how uncomfortable it had to be for both of them to be booked as entertainment for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve special, live from Times Square. Sources say that both Joe and Taylor did their best to avoid each other all night, but then came the inevitable countdown to midnight, when Taylor, the Jonas Brothers and Ryan Seacrest were all standing together on the broadcast platform, watching the ball drop. Joe coped with the situation by mugging for the camera, while Taylor looked like she wanted to disappear.

JONAS BROTHERS star JOE JONAS and his ex, TAYLOR SWIFT, added to the big chill in New York on New Year’s Eve (31Dec08) when they found themselves on the same stage just before midnight.
The Jonas Brothers had just performed as part of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest when they were pulled up onstage with the TV spectacular’s host to discuss the night’s chilly temperatures and ring in 2009.

As the ball dropped on Times Square, revellers faced a freezing 19 degrees with a windchill of two – but it was even colder onstage as Swift and Jonas attempted to make the most of their end-of-year (08) face-off.
Bitter Swift recently revealed her ex broke off the couple’s 2008 romance in a 25-second phone call.
The former couple refused to make eye contact as they stood at opposite ends of the stage, but they shared a brief hug in the early seconds of 2009 as fans celebrated the New Year.

Swift admitted she was stunned by her first New Year’s celebration in New York: “I have never seen anything like this in my life. This is life changing.”

[From Contact Music]

I watched the live special, and I didn’t see any hugs between these two. Maybe it happened off camera. The only thing more uncomfortable about this broadcast than the tension between these two kids was poor Dick Clark struggling to read the cue cards. I love Dick Clark, and his name is pretty much the definitive when it comes to New Year’s Eve specials, but it is very difficult and depressing to see him in such rough shape due to his stroke.

Here’s the countdown featuring Taylor Swift and the Jonas Brothers:

Joe Jonas dumps Taylor Swift by phone, starts dating older actress

It’s a sad day when I’m voluntarily covering the musical abomination known as the Jonas Brothers. But on the off chance that anyone cares about the lives of these bland child stars, here goes. Joe Jonas, who was dating country singer Taylor Swift until he unceremoniously dumped her via a phone call, is now dating actress Camilla Belle, best known for her work in the prehistoric CGI clunker 10,000 B.C. Taylor reportedly took the breakup very hard, and even went so far as to sing about it and refer to Joe as the only person who’s ever hurt her deeply.

Joe Jonas sure doesn’t waste time: The singer, who recently split from Taylor Swift, has moved on and is now dating 10,000 BC actress Camilla Belle, a source tells PEOPLE.

After a rocky end to his relationship with the country darling, which Swift talked and sang about, the middle Jonas brother, 19, quietly began seeing 22-year-old Belle, who starred in the Jonas Brothers video “Lovebug.”

“They met on the set of his music video,” says the source. “All the guys always had thought she was really pretty and that’s why they asked her to be in it.”

So when did the magic happen? “It was only after doing the video that they began to date.”

But don’t expect to see these two on red carpets together anytime soon. “They are not public about it but they’ve just been hanging out with their friends and Joe’s brothers,” explains the source. “They are very private about it.”

So just how did Belle nab herself a Jonas Brother? “She’s a really good girl and it seems they share a lot of the same characteristics and morals,” says the source.

[From People]

Zzzzzzz. Oops, sorry. I care so little about these people, I actually dozed off reporting this. I can see one characteristic these two share: their love for bushy black eyebrows. Honestly, I’m counting the minutes until these stupid little boys are pushed out of the limelight by another set of teens – hopefully better looking ones, with better music and more talent. And less creepy eyebrows. Is that too much to ask? All that Disney money and no one has introduced these boys to tweezers. I don’t think Taylor Swift should waste too many tears on this kid – she’s actually got some chops and could outlast the whole “teen sensation” thing if she’s smart.

Joe Jonas is pictured at the European premiere of Disney’s “Camp Rock” in September. Camilla Belle is shown at Hollywood Film Festival Awards in October. I’m guessing 10,000 B.C. didn’t win anything. Photo credits: WENN.

Jonas Brothers’ fans annoy 71-year old Dallas blues musician, Joe Jonas

Joe Jonas has never experienced such unparalleled popularity. His phone rings off the hook, the myspace page for his band gets friend request from teen girls by the hundreds, and his shows attract ever-increasing numbers of young girls. A dream come true for any musician, right? Well, not so much.

This Joe Jonas is 71-year old bluesman from Dallas, TX, and quite frankly, he finds it all rather annoying.

Ever since the Jonas Brothers shot to boy-band superstardom, pubescent girls have been confusing the 71-year-old blues singer with the dreamy 18-year-old idol.

“It’s irritating, because I’m the real Joe Jonas,” he says. “I’ve been out here way before he was born.”

The problems started last year when young girls began leaving messages and photos of themselves on Mr. Jonas’ MySpace page. So many teen Jonasites visited the page that MySpace eventually had to shut it down. Things only got worse in June when Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas bought a $2.8 million home in suburban Westlake: Suddenly, excited girls were leaving messages on Mr. Jonas’ home answering machine – a puzzling development, since his number is unlisted.

“People say, ‘You have to change your phone number.’ But I’m not changing it. I’ve had it for 30 years and if I change it, I’ll be the loser,” he says.

[From Guide Live]

Stick to your guns, Joe Jonas! Don’t let those young kids push you out of your rightful place as the “real” Joe Jonas. And when those cars full of pre-teen girls show up at the blues club and ask where The Jonas Brothers are, you keep telling them what you’ve been telling them.

“I am the Jonas brother. Not the Jonas Brothers.”

The elder Joe’s blame for the problems may be a little misplaced, however. When asked what he would say to the Joe Jonas he’s been mistaken for lately if he met him, he responded “I’ll tell him ‘You have caused me a lot of problems.’” Blame Disney.

Here’s a link to the original Joe Jonas’ myspace page. (Link has automatic music.)

And here’s a link news report about Joe Jonas, available on Breitbart. (Link has automatic video.)

Musicians’ backstage demands at the VMAs

In Touch has details of the performer’s backstage riders at the VMAs and they’re really not all the demanding – except for Christina Aguilera, who is said to have had 41 items on her list, and LL Cool J, whose list is particularly expensive and detailed. I think that In Touch distilled this list down to just a few things for each musician. The Jonas Brothers prefer both regular and sugar free Red Bull, Vitamin Water and vegetarian sushi while Kid Rock wants socks and ChapStick.

Christina Aguilera
- 1 large boom box that plays CDs, no alarm clock stereos
- 1 full length mirror
- 1 space heater
- 1 table just for makeup and dressing
- 2 bottles of Veuve Clicquot champagne
- 3 L’Occitane vanilla-scented candles with matches
- 1 cozy blanket
- 4 black bath towels
- 1 case of Arrowhead water

LL Cool J
- 1 black super stretch limo
- 14 airline tickets
- 14 hotel rooms
- 3 dressings (ranch, thousand island, honey mustard)
- 24 long-stem roses with no thorns, with individual water reservoir tips

Rihanna
- 1 lighted professional makeup mirror
- 2 Trish McEvoy blueberry candles
- 1 large, comfy sofa
- 24 Buffalo wings, hot sauce on the side
- 1 whole roasted chicken, spiced with jerk seasoning and cut into parts

Kid Rock
- 1 toaster
- 1 tube of ChapStick
- 1 pack of white crew socks
- 2 bottles of Grey Goose or Ketel One vodka
- 2 low fat yogurts (raspberry)
- 1 package of baby wipes

Jonas Brothers
- 8 Red Bull Sugarfree beverages, plus 6 regular Red Bulls
- 2 plastic bottles of room-temperature apple juice
- 12 bath-size towels (must be freshly laundered)
- 24 pieces of California sushi rolls
- 1 package of Oreo Double Stuff
- 6 bottles Vitaminwater (yellow, red, orange)
- 3 packages of Listerine Pocket-packs breath strips

[From In Touch, print edition, September 22, 2008]

I like setting up the guest room when people stay over and putting out towels, water, bath gel and hand cream and stuff. Sometimes I tie a little ribbon around the towel set, which I learned how to do in a Martha Stewart book. I think I would enjoy outfitting the celebrities’ dressing rooms and making them all special with baskets filled with their favorite things. Of course unlike the guests at my house no one would be thanking me for it and it would get tedious after a day or two. The people who do that job must chewed out regularly for forgetting small little details and/or not being able to read the privileged folks’ minds.

According Snopes.com, Van Halen added the seemingly strange request “no brown M&Ms” to their concert riders to make sure that all the more important requests about their technical and sound requirements were followed precisely. If there were brown M&Ms – they could be sure that the other details were skipped over too.

It’s about comfort for these stars rather than technical precision. The Jonas Brothers probably just want to get a nice caffeine buzz before they go on while Kid Rock has sweaty feet and needs new socks. I wonder what was in Britney’s rider. (Here’s what she asked for during her 2000 tour.) What would be on your list if you could get a bunch of stuff put in a room for you at work?
