NKOTB’s Jonathan Knight releases a great “coming out” statement

wenn2187042

Last week, there was a minor tizzy when it seemed like ‘80s pop star Tiffany drunkenly outed her ex-boyfriend, New Kids On the Block’s Jonathan Knight, on live television. Tiffany claimed that she and Jonathan has dated back in the day, “before” he was gay. This caused a stir, and many people were yelling at Tiffany for publicly outing a dude who hadn’t really made any public statements on his sexuality. A few days after Tiffany’s drunken outburst on Bravo, Jonathan Knight tweeted about the incident, in essence saying that Tiffany shouldn’t worry and that everything was cool between them. Basically, he was a total gentleman, and he sounded like a really nice guy. In any case, the incident showed Jonathan that people are still interested in hearing about him, so he decided to clear up some matters about his sexuality in an exclamation-filled blog post:

“I have never been outed by anyone but myself! I did so almost twenty years ago. I never know that I would have to do it all over again publicly just because I reunited with NKOTB! I have lived my life very openly and have never hidden the fact that I am gay! Apparently the prerequiste to being a gay public figure is to appear on the cover of a magazine with the caption “I am gay”. I apologize for not doing so if this is what was expected! My belief is that you live your life by example, and not by a caption on a magazine! If there ever has been any confusion about my sexuality, then you are someone that doesn’t even know me!”

“I love living my life being open and honest, but at this time I choose not to discuss my private life any further! My fellow band members don’t discuss their private lives with their loved ones and I don’t feel that just because I am gay, I should have to discuss mine!”

I write like this when I’m emailing friends. I’ll glance over my email, and I’ll release that every sentence is an exclamation (!!!!). As far as what Jonathan wrote… sure. I agree with him and applaud him. Not every gay celebrity needs the cover of People Magazine (“I’M GAY!!”) when they come out. It’s clear that Jonathan has been out and proud for years, and it’s his business. He isn’t lying to anybody and he’s not trying to sell an image of a heterosexual heartthrob for his fans. And by being so straight-forward while maintaining his privacy, I think he’s probably earned himself even more fans.

NKOTB’s Jonathan Knight was fine with being outed by Tiffany

wenn1869867

Yesterday, we heard about ’80s mall girl Tiffany outing her ex-boyfriend, New Kids on the Block’s Jonathan Knight. They dated, back in the ‘80s, before Jonathan knew he was gay, I guess. Anyway, Tiffany’s drunk ass announced that Jonathan was gay while she was on live television, so there were no takesies-backsies. Anyway, when I wrote up the story, a lot of you bitches yelled at me, claiming that Jonathan was already out of the closet, so there was no “outing”. Some of you saved your anger for Tiffany, because she was a drunk bitch who outed an ex (as many of us do, let’s be honest). Well, Tiffany and Jonathan are here to soothe everyone. First of all, it looks like Jonathan was not already “out” – in the sense that he had stated it before God and NKOTB fans. Also, Jonathan isn’t mad at Tiff. He actually sounds like a nice guy:

Pop singer Tiffany had to defend herself on Twitter after she outed New Kids on the Block member Jonathan Knight during an appearance Thursday on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live.” When host Andy Cohen asked the singer if she had ever dated one of the NKOTB members, Tiffany admitted she had a romance with Knight.

“The quiet one. The shy one,” she said. “He became gay later. I didn’t do it! But he’s fabulous.”

Cohen then asked if Tiffany “turned him.”

“No. See, I had issues with that. I was thinking maybe I did but no,” she revealed. “Now looking back when we were dating, he was so much fun. We used to do facials together. He was so easy to talk to … And he was fabulous. He’s an awesome person.”

Tiffany, 39, promptly faced accusations that she revealed Knight’s true sexuality, which he himself had never confirmed or denied.

“Really didn’t know that was the wrong thing to say,” she tweeted Friday in response. “Never meant to hurt Jon.”

Knight, 42, seemed to be taking it in stride.

“I’m so devastated ………….” he tweeted Friday, “How can I not remember getting facials???????”

He even had a message for Tiffany herself.

“Tiff, please don’t lose any sleep over it!” he wrote to her. “I know you weren’t being mean and I found it to be funny!”

“Knock em dead tomorrow!” he continued. “Wishing nothing but the best for you always!”

[From The NY Daily News]

Jonathan’s classiness has made me a fan – so much so that I need to admit something: back in the day, when I was a kid, Jonathan was my favorite. Those were the days before gaydar. But looking back, it certainly makes sense. I always love the gay ones. As far as Jonathan coming out and all – considering his classy reaction, I think he probably was out to his friends and family, but he’s just never given some big interview about his sexuality. Which is fine – whatever, you know?

Also: NKOTB Super Fans – be cool.

NKOTB’s Jonathan Knight outed on live television by his ex-girlfriend Tiffany

wenn5496233

This is the most bizarre story of the day. Apparently, ‘80s mall-girl/singing-sensation Tiffany was invited on Bravo’s Watch What Happens: Live with Andy Cohen, and during the course of the alcohol-soaked interview, Tiffany outed her ex-boyfriend, New Kids on the Block’s Jonathan Knight. Seriously! He’s gay, allegedly, although Tiffany claims she didn’t have anything to do with it (???) and that he only “became gay later”… AFTER they dated. Um…sure. The best part? Tiffany recalls what it was like to date Jonathan, and talks about how they used to do facials together. Oh, God.

Rumors have surfaced in the past regarding ‘New Kids on the Block member’ Jonathan Knight’s sexuality, but the pop performer has never admitted to being gay.

However, ’80s teen queen Tiffany told millions of TV viewers last Thursday that Knight indeed is gay.

Tiffany appeared on Bravo’s ‘Watch What Happens: Live,’ alongside Debbie Gibson, to discuss the singers’ role in the upcoming Syfy original movie, ‘Mega Python vs. Gatoroid,’ premiering Jan. 29.

During their sitdown, host Andy Cohen asked Tiffany if she had cozied up with any of the NKOTB boys back in her days as a touring mall songstress. Her response: Jonathan Knight.

“The quiet one, the shy one,” Tiffany admitted. “[Jonathan Knight] became gay later. I didn’t do it. I had issues with that. I was thinking maybe I did. Now looking back when we were dating he was so much fun. We used to do facials together. He was so easy to talk to.”

No statement from Knight has been released yet regarding Tiffany’s controversial remarks.

[From PopEater]

Obviously, they were both very young when they dated, and maybe Jonathan didn’t really “know” he was gay until he got a bit older, but I don’t think it’s cool for Tiffany to A) Drunkenly out him on live television and B) talk about how he only “became” gay after they dated. I’m not saying it’s her “fault” – it’s no one’s “fault”, he’s just gay.

But maybe she should have had an inkling when they were giving each other facials. I’m just sayin’.

For old time’s sake:

New Kids reunite on Today show

nkotbheader.JPG

The New Kids on the Block officially announced that they’ve reunited yesterday morning on the Today show. I wasn’t planning on covering this, but my nine-year-old self got incredibly cranky and threatened to climb into her NKOTB sleeping bag and refuse to come out until I did. My current-age-withheld self was also pretty damn impressed – those guys aged WELL. Despite the painfully obvious abundance of “Old Men on the Block” jokes, there was no denying that even the ugly one is decent looking now. And I’m pretty sure it’s worth it to write all about them for that reason alone. Back in the day, the New Kids sold over 70 million albums, paving the way for such illustrious boybands as the Backstreet Boys, Nsync, and the ultra-prestigious LFO. Now they’re ready to reclaim their rightful place at the top of the charts.

The undeniably aged entertainers, reunited 22 years after first forming and 20 years after the release of their debut album, Hanging Tough, are apparently more than willing to embrace their status as the elder statesmen of teenybop pop. (Jonathan Knight’s the eldest, at 39; [Donny] Wahlberg and [Danny] Wood are both 38; Jordan Knight is 37; and [Joey] McIntyre is the baby, at 35.) Asked what they had in store for long-suffering fans on their new album, McIntyre teased, “Three things: the economy, health care and job security.”

“We’ve got some new material,” Wahlberg said. “We’re going to dance, we’re going to sing, we’re going to do it all.” Once the man band was unveiled—with a drumroll and from behind a red-velvet curtain set up outdoors—Wahlberg wasted no time in getting down to the business of the announcement. “We started recording in August,” he said. “Really, it was music that brought us back.”

Wahlberg also noted that the reunion announcement, which has been in the ether for months, was something the group wasn’t planning on confirming so early on, but felt they needed to after word began to leak out in January. “We really weren’t going to announce this yet,” he said, adding that the boys-no-more band ultimately decided to confirm the rumors for their fans’ sake. “The fans got a little excited, but they got a little unsure, so we thought we better come out and let them know it’s official. We hope to tour in the fall—we’re already setting up limited dates.”
