Sherri Shepherd & Joy Behar got married (not to each other)

wenn5230764

It’s strange that two members of The View got married within 48 hours of each other, right? One wedding was seemingly planned – Sherri Shepherd was engaged to her fiancé for a while, and the wedding plans have been consuming her for months. So why is it that Joy Behar seemingly bridal-blocked Sherri suddenly by getting hitched last Thursday and announcing it on the day that Sherri got married? Out of all of The View women, I would have never chosen Sherri and Joy for a catfight. But something is there, I can feel it.

So, yeah, Behar married her boyfriend of 29 years, Steve Janowitz, on Thursday. They don’t even live together! Seriously, they keep separate apartments.

The View co-host Joy Behar is going to have plenty to talk about when the show returns next month. After dating for 29 years, the View co-host, 68, and beau Steve Janowitz have tied the knot.

“She was married in New York City last night in a private ceremony,” a rep for the show tells PEOPLE. “She will discuss it on Sept. 6 on The View when the show returns for the 15th season.”

Behar’s wedding date, Aug. 11, also coincidentally marks the 14th anniversary of the ABC daytime show’s debut in 1997.

In 2009, Behar announced she and Janowitz, whom she referred to as her “spousal equivalent,” had plans to wed. But later that year, she said broke off the engagement, blaming “cold feet.”

Behar also hosts The Joy Behar Show on HLN.

[From People]

It sounds like some kind of quickie thing with barely any guests. Which is fine – not everyone needs or wants a big wedding. But the comparison to Sherri’s wedding is stark – Sherri had EIGHT bridesmaids:

Joy Behar isn’t the only newlywed on The View. Co-host Sherri Shepherd and fiancé Lamar Sally tied the knot at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago, her hometown, on Saturday, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.

Shepherd’s eight bridesmaids included The View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Niecy Nash and Community’s Yvette Nicole Brown, and her 6-year-old son Jeffrey walked her down the aisle.

After using her wedding dress as her carry-on luggage on a flight from New York City to Chicago earlier in the week, Shepherd, 44, spent the days leading up to the wedding battling nerves and fitting in a few last-minute workouts at her hotel gym, according to her Twitter musings.

She even Tweeted nearly up until it was time to walk down the aisle, writing on Saturday afternoon, “Sitting in the room in my gown waiting for Sal& groomsmen to take their pics… can’t let him see me b4 the wedding… but I’m bored as heck.”

Right before the ceremony she Tweeted: “What happens when you are in your wedding dress and you have to tinkle? Uh-oh!”

The 30 Rock actress devoted months to trying to get in shape for her big day, which will air as a special on the Style network on Sept 13.

Shepherd, who calls her husband “Sal,” had been prepping for a large ceremony since getting engaged in December.

“His family’s from Detroit and mine are from Chicago, and we’ve got really close friends that we want to share the day with,” she told PEOPLE as she planned her nuptials. “So, it’s going to be pretty big.”

[From People]

Congratulations to Sherri and Joy, and I hope they will both be very happy in their respective unions. Do you think that when The View comes back on, it will be some kind of wedding-conversation bitch-fight? Probably not. But it would be funny if it was.

Whoopi and Joy explain why they walked off The View’s Bill O’Reilly interview

Last week there was a big controversy over the fact that Whoopi and Joy walked off The View while Bill O’Reilly was a guest. The topic was the proposed “Mosque at Ground Zero,” (which is neither a mosque nor is it at ‘Ground Zero’ but whatever) and when the shouting started happening and Bill said “Muslims killed us on 9/11” Whoopi and Joy both hightailed it out of there, leaving Barbara Walters and the rest of the panel in a tizzy. On Monday’s View, Joy and Whoopi spoke out about the incident. O’Reilly also apologized on his show, adding that it was everyone else’s fault for not understanding that he meant something that he didn’t specifically say. He said “I assumed that most people would be intelligent enough to know that I was saying ‘radical Islamists attacked us’.”

Both Whoopi and Joy said on The View’s postmortem that they’re glad they walked off. Whoopi claimed that she was about to go off on Bill and needed to leave while Joy explained that she was “enraged.” Barbara noted that Bill had played them both and that he got a huge kick out of it. Here’s Radar Online’s recap, where you can also watch a video clip.

On Monday, Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar finally had their chance to defend walking off the set of The View last Thursday in response to guest Bill O’Reilly’s controversial remarks about Muslims being behind 9/11.

Since the show last Friday was pre-taped prior to the walkout, this was their first chance to publicly address the controversy on their own show.

“On this show we always speak about standing up to bigotry, so I stood up,” Behar said.

“I had reached my saturation point,” Goldberg added. “I had enough. As soon as I said the B word, I knew to get up and leave. Because I knew what was coming next. I was going to cuss him out.”

As RadarOnline.com has previously reported, on The View last Thursday, O’Reilly said, “The Muslims killed us on 9-11.” Shortly afterward, an enraged Behar stormed off the set; Goldberg quickly followed her. The other ladies of the panel stayed on, and Barbara Walters scolded her colleagues for walking off.

Monday, Goldberg made no apologies; she said that O’Reilly needed to be more cautious in his statements because it’s a volatile time. “I”m glad that I left,” she said.

Walters countered that the country needs conversations without yelling and walking off. “You don’t walk out of your own home,” Walters chided her colleagues. “We’re used to Bill O’Reilly. He loves this. He loves to pull your chain. He loves to get you angry. This is just what he wanted.”

Responding to some critics who questioned if the entire scenerio was staged in a ploy to get ratings, Sherri Shepherd adamantly stated that it was not staged and that O’Reilly seemed “energized” during a commercial break. He promised to show the clip on his Fox show, The O’Reilly Factor, and said it would help the ratings for The View, Shepherd said.

Shepherd said that Walters told O’Reilly: “We’ve been doing fine without you trying to make our ratings.”

Shepherd added, “He knew what he was doing.”

The notoriously conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck said her staying didn’t mean she agreed with O’Reilly. Hasselbeck stressed that the terrorists killed us in the 2001 attacks.

Behar also brought up the Henry Fonda movie 12 Angry Men, cited the bigoted character played by Lee J. Cobb. She pointed out that the other jurors stood up to him. “I believe that was what I had to do,” Behar said.

“We are supposed to be civilized,” Goldberg said. “I know that had I stayed there, for me at least, it would have gotten worse. … He was so enraging and so disrespectful.”

“Bill loves to pull your chains,” Walters said.

Behar admitted her surprise at all the attention the incident attracted, saying, “Two girl comedians walk off in the face of a bully, and it gets to be all over the world. Interesting.”

During the interview with O’Reilly last Thursday, both Goldberg and Behar returned to the set to finish the interview after O’Reilly -prompted by Walters- apologized if he offended anyone by his comments.

[From Radar Online]

Whoopi and Joy interview people for a living, they’ve been doing it for years, and they should be able to handle some ass who is known for being incendiary without getting all offended and storming off. Bill needled the crap out of them and he got the response he was looking for. The fact that they still can’t see that they reacted just as he hoped they would just serves to show why they would leave in the first place. I don’t like Bill O’Reilly and I don’t agree with his point whatsoever, but everyone knows how he is. If they don’t want to deal with his behavior they shouldn’t have him on the show.

Joy also talked about this on her CNN show yesterday. I like what her experts have to say about the issue. Here’s video of that.

Whoopi & Joy Behar walk out of ‘The View’ during Bill O’Reilly interview

Do you know how much I hate covering anything to do with The View? SO MUCH. But CB sent me this, and I suppose people will be talking about it. Bill O’Reilly came on The View this morning, and I guess they were talking about Obama’s low poll numbers and then they got to polling numbers for what America thinks about the “Ground Zero Mosque” and then sh-t gets all shouty and hysterical. After Bill says “Muslims killed us on nine-eleven” Joy Behar gets up and says something about not engaging in this sh-t while Whoopi is shouting about extremists. Then Whoopi gets up with Joy and they both walk off the stage. Barbara then gets her lady drawers in a twist and says that we should all be able to talk about this sh-t without having people disengage or whatever.

I have mixed emotions. Obviously, Bill was trying to get the ladies riled up, and he was much more animated and blowhardy than he would have been on, say, The Daily Show. That being said, he threw out a relatively easy one (compared to other bullsh-t he could have said) and Whoopi and Joy took the bait like morons. Bill will get extra coverage, blah, blah, blah, so that makes him smart, I guess.

But in defense of Whoopi and Joy: I do this too. I would much rather disengage from some heated argument than sit there and try to shout my point. I realize they walked away for different reasons, and it might have even been preplanned, but I’m just saying, I get it. When it comes to these stupid hot-button political issues, for the most part I’m not interested in shouting my point of view to whoever disagrees with me. Is it maturity? Is it a heightened fight-or-flight instinct? Or it my smug sense of superiority? I don’t know. I just know I don’t care enough to shout about it. And if you shout at me about something, I’m never going to agree with you anyway.

Does Joy Behar want to quit The View?

Mar. 13, 2010 - New York, New York, United States - JOY BEHAR arriving at the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards at the Marriott Marquis in New York City on 03-13-2010. 2010..K64463Hmc. © Red Carpet Pictures

We’ve heard a lot of rumors that loudmouth Elisabeth Hasselbeck is on the way out on The View, (which sadly seem to have amounted to nothing) but we haven’t heard much about longterm staple Joy Behar. Behar is the only remaining member from the original panel apart from ailing head Barbara Walters. The other day Joy made a quip about being on the show 13 years like she was over it and found it tedious. (I wish I could remember what she said exactly and when I saw it, but I’m not re-watching a bunch of episodes to find out. She definitely made a reference to it.)

According to Mike Walker in the National Enquirer, Joy is ready to leave The View in favor of focusing on her relatively new Headline News show. She’s also reportedly disappointed that the View is not moving to primetime when Oprah’s show leaves that spot next year.

Sources report that Joy Behar’s thisclose to ankling “The View” because 1. despite low expectations for her HLN talk show when it debuted last fall, it’s now a runaway hit after she boosted ratings by a whopping 34 percent; 2. Behar desperately wanted the huge career and pay boost she’d have scored if “The View” had moved to Oprah’s afternoon spot – not to mention the extra shuteye; and 3. after 13 years, the show’s sheer drudgery. “Joy feels like she’s treading water there,” says a close friend. “She believes there’s more to life than arguing with a mental midget like Elisabeth Hasselbeck.”

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, June 28, 2010]

I like Joy and find her pretty funny and level headed most of the time. This week they’re having male co-hosts for the first time and Stephen A. Smith and Joe Scarborough were on the panel yesterday. They were talking about the big hoopla over the new female Viagra pill and the three women (Whoopi and Barbara weren’t there) all agreed that they didn’t need it. Joy said the issue is that “you guys can’t turn us on… I say get a vibrator and put a mustache on it.” She later added “I’ll tell you what works for me. Thirty minutes of foreplay. Can you handle that?” Smith said that “30 minutes of foreplay… the more excited a man gets….” Joy quipped “That’s your problem, not mine.”

You can imagine Joy wanting to leave after 13 years sitting there talking “hot topics” every day. She’s a solid member of the panel though and I like her perspective. She’s outspoken but I don’t see her as particularly pushy or stubborn, like Elisabeth or long-departed members Rosie and Star Jones. If she leaves people will miss her, but they’ll probably still watch. I don’t enjoy it when Barbara is on though that’s for sure. It’s partially Barbara and partially the way that Elisabeth gets even more self righteous to impress the boss. I hope that Walters has a full and speedy recovery from heart surgery and then moves on to focus on other projects.

Kirstie Alley wants to bash Joy Behar in the privates

36935pcn_kirstie06

Former “Cheers” star Kirstie Alley isn’t just fighting with her weight or the National Enquirer. She’s engaged in a weird, vicious Twitter war with “The View” host Joy Behar, whom she has nicknamed “Joy Bewhore.” Wow, it’s like 7th grade all over again, except the mean girls aren’t cheerleaders – they’re ugly, aging harpies with Internet access! Huffington Post explains:

In the wasteland of Kirstie Alley’s prolific Twitter activity lies a feud with Joy Behar, seemingly over the talk show host’s coverage of Tiger Woods on ‘The Joy Behar Show.’

“and WHY has Joy Behar turned into such a self righteous cooz head? OOOOooo that’s right…..FOREVER!!!,” Kirstie tweeted earlier this month. “CHEATING is between a husband and wife. Not TMZ and Joy Bewhore…God, I want to bash her in the vagina with her microphone.”

Kirstie’s followers let her know she sounded insane, to which Kirstie responded that Joy “already WENT after me several times.”

Joy managed to ignore Kirstie’s rant until Friday.

“Kirstie Alley calls me Joy Bewhore. Compliments! Compliments!” she tweeted.

This is not the first time Kirstie has gotten into it with a talk show host. She went after “Conan O’Bitch O’Brian” on Twitter in November after he poked fun at her weight.

Kirstie’s loopy tweeting has targeted others, including former Cheers costar Kelsey Grammer.

“@Kelsey_Grammer Kelsey..come over and make out with me…tell your wife it’s for old times sake..she’ll be cool with it,” she tweeted Monday night.

It comes as no surprise that Kirstie’s A&E weight loss reality show premieres this spring.

“Having fun watching my body melt away in a healthy fun way…this zone is the one I want to live in..THE GUILT FREE ZONE..ra ra aaa Roma Rom,” she tweeted Monday. “My new show starts to air in March on A&E..you can watch the fat melt away for yourself…lol…”

[From Huffington Post]

Did Kirstie attend the Tila Tequila school of self-promotion recently? You know, the “Bash another celebrity, followed with a shameless plug” tactic Tila loves so much. At this point, are there even people out there who remember who Kirstie Alley was – enough to market a show around her? Well, I guess if Danny Bonaduce and Scott Baio can have a show, Kirstie can, too. But I’m not looking forward to “watching the fat melt away.” That sounds kind of graphic for me. I mean, I can barely handle “Hoarders” as it is. I would, however, tune in to see Kirstie and Joy in a cage match. I happen to think they are both hideous, inside and out. But Joy’s from Brooklyn – I believe she’d administer quite the beatdown.

Joy Behar calls Rachel Uchitel a “hooker” & ABC apologizes

wenn5404889

I know it’s tragically unhip, but I kind of adore Joy Behar. She’s actually funny sometimes, and she’s a lot smarter than the other ladies of The View give her credit for. Perhaps that’s why she got her own show on HLN (the CNN Lite), in addition to her View duties. But I digress… here’s what went down. A few days ago, Joy and the ladies were discussing the Tiger Woods drama, and all of his women, et cetera (the video is below). Early in the discussion, Whoopi is trying to give the background, but she doesn’t know how to pronounce Rachel Uchitel’s last name. The other women sound it out, and Joy chimes in “You-ka-tell, you can tell she’s a hooker… you can tell she’s a putan.” Putan being Italian for bitch, or maybe hooker…? (I don’t know Italian slang.)

Anyway, after that little moment, the audience laughed and Uchitel’s lawyer Gloria Allred called the media outlets to complain about her client being referred to as a hooker. Allred’s statement was funny: “Today on “The View” on ABC television a co-host called our client Rachel Uchitel a “Hooker.” The co-host said “Yeah,…. You-ka-tell she’s a hooker,’ This statement about Ms. Uchitel is false and defamatory and highly offensive to her. Rachel is very upset by that statement which has been viewed and now read all around the world. This statement was very hurtful to Rachel because it is not true. Even if the host said it in a joking way Rachel is not amused, because she values her reputation and her reputation has been damaged by this statement as it is completely false. We are sending a letter to ABC Television immediately demanding a retraction on the View as soon as possible. We hope that they will do the right thing and retract this statement immediately.”

That’s where it stood for a day or so, until ABC caved and apologized on behalf of Behar. Sort of.

Hot topic: The View’s Joy Behar is sorry for calling alleged Tiger Woods mistress Rachel Uchitel a hooker.

On Thursday’s show, Behar and her cohosts were discussing the Woods sex scandal when Behar joked, “Uchitel, she’s a hooker.

Uchitel wasn’t amused.

She was “very upset” by the “false and defamatory and highly offensive to her,” her attorney Gloria Allred said in a statement Thursday. “Even if the host said it in a joking way Rachel is not amused, because she values her reputation and her reputation has been damaged by this statement as it is completely false.”

A View rep insists the comment was said it jest.

“Joy Behar made a play on Ms. Uchitel’s name,” reads a statement. “This was intended as a joke. We sincerely apologize for the choice of words and for any misimpression the joke may have created.”

[From Us Weekly]

Now, here’s the thing: when I really think about it, it is offensive. I’m not defending Uchitel or any of these trashy women who slept with Tiger. But some of them are not hookers, they are just women who had jobs or whatever, and they ran into Tiger and began sleeping with him with no kind of financial arrangement. That being said, when the line of mistresses is selling their stories to anyone buying, there is some element of prostitution involved. And for Uchitel in particular, there was a financial arrangement in at least one case – Tiger was paying for Rachel to travel to him. It’s not straight money-for-sex, but someone was getting paid, you know?

The other thing I have to confess is that in the beginning, when the first few women started coming out, my first impulse was to think of them as hookers. And if someone had interviewed me on the spot, I’m sure I would have called them that. So I totally understand Behar’s reaction, and I think it’s kind of lame that ABC gave even this half-assed apology.

Oh, and if Rachel Uchitel was so worried about people saying offensive things about her, perhaps she shouldn’t have carried on an affair with Tiger Woods for six months.

Katie Couric is pissed at Larry King about his choices for successor

Larry King
CBS anchorwoman Katie Couric is reportedly fuming at Larry King. Couric considered herself a candidate to replace the 75-year-old when he retires in 2011, but instead, King is looking at either Anderson Cooper or “The View” co-host Joy Behar as his likely successor.

An angry Katie Couric is insulted that Larry King refuses to consider her as a top candidate to replace him on his popular CNN talk show, say sources.

Katie learned “through channels” that the 75-year-old interviewer admires her greatly, but didn’t select her as his No. 1 replacement candidate, or even his No. 2, disclosed a friend a friend of the “CBS Evening News” anchorwoman. King is widely expected to retire after his contract expires in 2011.

Katie, 52, is third on Larry’s wish list – behind CNN anchorman Anderson Cooper and King’s surprising second-place choice, Joy Behar, divulged a source close to Larry.

“Katie’s actually pretty angry,” revealed her friend. “While she respects Anderson Cooper, she regards him as something of a lightweight. When she heard Larry favored Anderson, it bothered her a little bit. When she heard Larry thought Joy would be a better choice, she really flipped out!

“She thinks the world of Joy, but believes she is an entertainer first and certainly not in her league as an interviewer.”

Joy received rave reviews for the Sept. 29 debut of “The Joy Behar Show,” which a New York Post columnist said “could turn out to be the smartest show on television.”

Despite buzz that “American Idol’s” Ryan Seacrest might be in line for the job, Larry has turned thumbs down for the television host.

Confided the King source: “Larry likes Ryan and calls him ‘a super-talented kid,’ but doesn’t think he has a news background to do his job the right way.”

[From The National Enquirer print version, Oct. 19, 2009]

I think there’s only one way to settle this: news anchor rumble! Seriously, though, the only one of those people I’d watch is Anderson Cooper, and even then, I would rather see him on location than sitting at a desk every night. I love how Katie Couric considers Cooper a lightweight! Like she’s any different. Personally, I’d rather have gum surgery than listen to that harpy, Joy Behar. She’s already got two shows! And don’t even get me started on that hyperactive chipmunk known as Ryan Seacrest. He’s way too busy producing hideous reality shows for E! to take a job that would give him some credibility.

Anyway, this whole feud sure marks a change in broadcasting. Remember when all the news anchors wanted to be on the network evening news, and getting a job on a cable channel was considered a bad career move? In other news: Larry King can’t retire fast enough for me.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck: Don’t pity me on ‘The View’

nytimes weekend 080109

Generally speaking, I couldn’t care less about The View. The only woman on there I have a genuine affection for is Whoopi Goldberg, and the part I like about her is that she really, really doesn’t seem to care what anyone thinks of her. That being said, I do enjoy reading about what goes on behind the scenes on The View, and this new interview is riveting. The ladies sat down for a cover interview with Ladies Home Journal (story via OK! Magazine) and the results were hilarious. Should I be ashamed for chuckling at several different parts of the interview? I don’t care. These women are cracking me up. From Barbara Walters trying to convince the world that big, burly Los Angels police officers are fans of The View, to Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s snotty attitude about people pitying her, this one’s a classic:

The ladies of The View are quite a collection of characters, and it’s no secret that Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck don’t always get along. The co-hosts are all sharing one thing however — the October cover of Ladies Home Journal. Inside they dish on their chemistry, their disagreements and their success.

On the secret of their success:
Barbara: “The chemistry is the most important thing. We have been imitated again and again – by men, by other programs – and the thought is there should be one older person, one comedian, one black person, and one younger person, and that will make it work. And it doesn’t. Our roles on the show have changed and I think we’re better than ever because of this group.”

On disagreeing on set:
Whoopi: “There are times when you think, I shouldn’t have said that, and I’m sorry. But nobody cares if you say something tough – it’s over and done with. They’re like, No, no, no I know what you meant. The next day you’re back on cue. Or five minutes later, after the commercial, you’re back to being the two of you.”
Elizabeth: “We know what triggers the other person, but we also believe what we believe. It’s all up for discussion, and we know we’re all coming back tomorrow. So we love each other even though we don’t always agree.”
Joy: “We are a reality show of the real kind. You watch the Jon & Kate Plus 8 shows, but they’ve been faking things for two years. We have a real show, we are real people and the audience relates to that.”

About the fighting rumors:
Whoopi: “The idea was put into people’s minds before I arrived – that was played up with [former co-host] Rosie [O'Donnell], and it stuck. I think for a while things got more personal than they should have and people glommed onto that. I think people want there to be feuds. But I am too lazy to fight – it takes too much energy to keep it going.”
Elizabeth: “I typically get two comments. One is, ‘I feel so bad for you.’ Or: ‘That has to be difficult to do every day.’ Neither is true, and I don’t enjoy pity. Anyway, the show isn’t as interesting when we agree.”

On memorable guests:
Sherri: “I love the gorgeous men who come through and that I get to put my hand on their thighs. The guys love it. Robert Downey Jr. put my head in his lap. And they kiss you. What kind of job do I have? Every man I love turns around and gives me a kiss. When [Barack] Obama showed up, I was like, this is it, I am done. And Jonathan Rhys Meyers? I am like a predator cougar on that boy. I will hurt you.”

On their male fans:
Barbara: “I don’t think of us as a woman’s show. I was at the Michael Jackson memorial, and these male cops kept saying, ‘I watch your show every day!”
Elizabeth: “My husband, Tim [Hasselbeck, former NFL quarterback] has played for two or three teams since I’ve been on the show, and every team he’s been on, they all watch the show while they’re icing their legs. They sit and watch and try to get what women are about.”

On Barbara’s little-known expertise:
Sherri: “Barbara gives the best single-women advice…about raising my son and relationships. She also gives good advice about sex.”

[From OK! Magazine]

I now love Sherri a little bit for saying Robert Downey Jr. and Jonathan Rhys Meyers were her favorite boys. I just went and watched Jonathan’s last interview on The View (he’s been on several times, so he must love those ladies too), and they’re all drooling over him. And now I am going to try to work “I am like a predator cougar on that boy. I will hurt you” into my everyday conversation this week. One part that OK! didn’t excerpt was where Sherry claims that John McCain’s appearance on the show was not a happy one. Sherri says, “John McCain was not happy with us. I don’t know if he and his wife thought we were just going to bake cookies or something, but we asked some pretty tough questions.” I can’t believe that excerpt got cut out while OK! made us hear about Barbara’s sex advice!

The View co-hosts demand a raise from Barbara Walters

the-view

There is a long list of things I’d rather do than watch the shrieking harpies of “The View.” Gum surgery, Chinese water torture, a Celine Dion concert…the list goes on and on. But plenty of other people are watching the show, because its ratings are higher than ever. That’s why the co-hosts of the show – Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck – are asking for a raise. And of course, they’re going straight to the show’s executive producer and co-star, Barbara Walters, with their demands.

Ratings for “The View” have gone through the roof- and so have the co-hosts’ salary demands!

Although the show’s boss Barbara Walters is thrilled that her 12-year-old production is on the rise, set insiders tell The Enquirer that she’s suddenly found herself with “a mutiny on her hands.” Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck all believe they should be generously rewarded for the newfound success.

Demands from the stars’ agents began pouring into Barbara’s office in early March when Nielsen statistics reported “The View” – which often ranked 10th or lower among daytime programs – climbed to No. 2 among women aged 18-49, says the insider.

The sudden ratings boom is being attributed to Barbara’s decision to expand the “hot topics” segment, about the day’s headlines, which now accounts for half the show. “The View” is now enjoying its most-watched season ever, averaging 4.2 million viewers – up from 2.5 million a year ago.

“Barbara should be beaming because of the show’s recent success, but she’s furious that the other women have been pestering her for a bigger piece of the pie,” says the insider.

“Barbara thinks their new salary demands are outrageous – some are asking for several million dollars – and she told one confidant, “They should all be ashamed of themselves – I’ve never seen such a greedier bunch.’”

[From The National Enquirer print version, March 30, 2009]

Oh, come on. As long as Barbara’s been around at ABC, I’m sure she’s seen a greedier bunch. And I’m sure Barbara is making a nice chunk of change as the show’s executive producer. Why wouldn’t she do the smart thing and keep her co-stars happy? As much as I can’t stand the show, they must be doing something to appeal to the viewers who like them. I suppose some people actually enjoy watching five women sitting around a table screaming and talking over each other. If I want to see that, I can just go hang out at my mom’s house for a day. But the chemistry – or, more accurately, the tension – between the co-hosts must be what’s getting the ratings. Or does Barbara thing everyone tunes in to watch her?

Joy Behar says many homeschooled kids are “demented”

School discussion starts at 5:45 and Behar’s comments on homeschooling are at 6:55

Leave it to one of the women of The View to say something completely ridiculous any day of the week. Most recently, Elisabeth Hasselbeck has been the host in the hot seat as a result of her sometimes blind following of the GOP and conservative talking points, without much to back up in terms of actual opinion. And Sherri Shepard is no stranger to the ridiculous comment. But this week’s perpetrator was Joy Behar.

The conversation came up about where the Obama girls would be educated once they move to DC. Discussion on public versus private schools ensued, until Behar, who, by the way, is a former school teacher, suggested that the girls be educated in the White House, in what she called a “Little House on the Prairie” way. But when Elisabeth uttered the word “homeschooled”, Joy’s response was one that has the homeschooling community up in arms, and rightfully so.

Behar: I think those kids should be educated in the White House, this is my feeling.

Hasselbeck: Homeschooled?

Walters: You think they should have homeschool? Noo.

Behar: With other children, they should bring them into the White House and make a Little House on the Prairie.

Hasselbeck: Little House on the Prairie?

Behar: Yes, in the White House, that would be what I would do.

Hasselbeck: I’m all for homeschooling, I actually think it’s a good thing. Some of them…

Behar: (Waving her hand in Elisabeth’s face) A lot of them are demented when they’re homeschooled. Please.

Behar went on to talk about how homeschooled kids don’t get the social interaction they need, that they’re afraid of other people and it’s all about “mommy and daddy” telling them what to think. Hasselbeck pointed out to her that homeschoolers participate in sports and extracurricular activities through school, community programs and consortiums with other homeschooling families and that Joy’s statements were all stereotype.

Joy Behar doesn’t know what she’s talking about and was really rude to a growing segment of families in this country and others. Homeschooling isn’t just polygamist sects who fence themselves off from the world, homeschooling is a very viable alternative to standardized school that shouldn’t be knocked if you don’t know anything about it. I applaud Elisabeth Hasselbeck for knowing something about the topic and defending it against an ugly and unwarranted attack. She wasn’t suggesting Malia and Sasha be homeschooled, she was teaching Behar the reality of homeschooling, but Behar wasn’t listening. As usual.
