Katie Holmes is the cover girl for the August issue of InStyle, and these are some shots from the pictorial. I’m kind of meh on it – Katie’s been looking so good lately in candids, and in these overly ‘Shopped photos, she just looks plastic and cartoonish. The only thing I take away from the shoot is that she should wear more dark green – that shade of green really agrees with her coloring. Anyway, in the interview excerpts from InStyle, it’s basically the same old robot, except for one notable quote – Katie comes very close to saying that she doesn’t want to have another baby. THAT is very interesting.

Katie on date nights with Tom: “Two years ago he took me up on his P-51 Mustang, a fighter plane from World War II. He painted the words, ‘Kiss Me, Kate’ on the side… It feels like you’re on a bike in the sky. I thought, I’m either going to spend this whole flight totally freaked out or realize this is pretty thrilling.”

Katie on Tom and getting romantic: When you’re married to one of the world’s biggest movie stars, whom Holmes calls a “manly romantic,” life is bound to be exciting but also challenging when it comes to balancing careers and family. “In our family we have a policy: we make it work,” she says. “We Skype, and we try not to go for a week without seeing each other. We’re also very good at setting up camp wherever we go.”

Being a mom has influenced her work: “My work has changed for the better. I have more to bring to a role.”

She doesn’t feel pressure to have another baby: “We already have a very big family; a full household with cousins who are over a lot, and she has her friends,” Holmes says. “My biggest thing is making sure she’s fully taken care of and doing well.”

Experimenting with fashion: “I’m not afraid to try a new designer or do something trendy, but it has to look right on my body. You don’t want to look like a fashion victim!”

Aging: “Hopefully I can age gracefully. And if not, I’ll have to figure it out. But I don’t think I’m ever going to do my lips – my sisters would kill me!”

Teaching her younger self: “If there were one thing I could teach my younger self, it would be this: Realize your own power.”

On the excitement of landing new roles: “Every time I get a job I cry. It sounds hokey, but it’s a sparkly moment that reminds you you’re living your dream every day. No matter how many roles you get, it’s like, ‘Somebody thinks I can do it!’”

On always making sure to be ‘ladylike’: “I always try to conduct myself in a ladylike manner. That was my mom’s advice to me before every school dance, and it’s really locked in.”

I applaud Katie for talking about how she doesn’t really feel the need to have another kid – I think it’s brave, considering most people expected her to have another baby, and considering there are constantly “bump watches” on her slouchy frame. She’s not giving into societal pressures… but of course, there could be other explanations (that I won’t get into).

I hope this story is true, but it looks like Tom Cruise’s people have already denied it. Still… that doesn’t mean much, and I think it’s perfectly possible that this is on. According to In Touch Weekly, Tom Cruise has made arrangements for his daughter Suri to take a small role (it might be a cameo) in the movie he’s currently filming, Rock of Ages. That’s the one where Tom is wearing his rock n’ roll high heels and he put something on his L. Ron happy trail to make the little hairs glisten (don’t ask). The crux of the story: Suri was the one to decide that she was ready to work in movies!

A star is born: Little Suri Cruise is getting ready to make her big-screen debut in her father Tom’s movie, Rock of Ages, and according to a family friend, she’s hoping it will launch her film career!

The 5-year-old looks up to her star parents, Tom and Katie Holmes, and she wants to be just like them.

“Even though she’s only a kid,” the friend explains, “Suri gets to make her own decisions, and this was one of them. Tom and Katie would never push her into doing something she doesn’t want to do.”

Or, it seems, stop her from doing something she already does! And although a rep denies the new role, anyone can tell that Suri knows how to work a camera!

Who is with me in thinking this story is completely believable? Tom and Katie treat Suri like she’s perfectly capable of making her own life and career choices, and if Suri wants to be in movies, then by Xenu, she’s going to be in movies. Plus, it’s not like she has some grueling schedule or anything. No school, no tutors, maybe she’ll have to push back some audits and barley-water appointments.

ITW also notes that “Suri’s role hasn’t been revealed.” If anything, I bet it’s just a little cameo.

Yesterday, I put up some of the earliest photos we had of Katie Holmes at the Armani show in Paris. Thankfully, we got some better photos so now we get to see how much Mr. Armani secretly disliked the Kate-bot. He put her in this slouchy black outfit – although to be fair to Mr. Armani, Katie might have picked it out for herself. Ill-fitting slouchy pants… are they meant to be Capri pants? Or is the hemline just wonky? And that shiny faux-menswear-style shirt. It’s all pretty bad. I was wondering why this outfit seemed so particularly hideous to me, when really, it’s far from the most terrible thing Katie has ever worn. I think I hate it so much because A) Katie’s style has actually been improving lately, and it hurts me to see her take a dip, and B) because Katie rarely does that all-black thing, nor the all covered-up thing.

I will say this, though – in addition to being (generally) more stylish lately, her hair has also been consistently AMAZING lately. I don’t know what she’s doing with it, but it looks so good. Her makeup is great too lately, What’s up, Kate-bot? She really needs to work on not looking like she’s rebooting though:

Next up: Katie’s casual look for an outing to the Dior children’s boutique, which she went to after the Armani show. The outing deserved a costume change! You know what? If Jennifer Garner was wearing this ensemble, I would probably find it dated and cloying, but on Katie, it’s not bad. I dislike skinny jeans, but she’s working a pretty good pair, and that blouse looks feminine and sweet on her, rather than immature.

Paris Fashion Week began today (I think) and these are photos from the Armani Prive show, where the two big celebrity attendees were… CATE BLANCHETT. And Katie Holmes. We so rarely get new photos of Our Beloved Blanchett, so lets milk these two lonely photos for all they are worth. I’m assuming Cate wore Armani, and it is magnificent, as most things are on her. You’d think that red would overwhelm her, considering she’s so pale and blonde and such. But it doesn’t – it works beautifully on her. Maybe that’s just because I love her… but I seriously think she looks amazing. I want the suit. UPDATE: I added more photos of Cate.

Next: Katie Holmes. No, we don’t have access to any photos where you can see her whole outfit. I think it’s black, loose and long-sleeved. Armani did her wedding gown, if I remember correctly, so Katie has some history with the brand. Plus, she doesn’t have much else going on – she’s been in Florida, where Tom Cruise is filming Rock of Ages, and she just threw him a big birthday party. Guess she didn’t want to stick around, though. Zoom…. PARIS! I do like her hair here. Very glossy.

It’s really no secret that Suri Cruise never hangs out with friends that are her age, for she appears to exclusively enjoy the company of grown ups (sometimes in some very adult-oriented venues). So that hasn’t changed, but while Papa Tom has been butching it up for the Rock of Ages shoot in Miami, Katie and Suri have followed along to the city and largely spent their time together poolside and eating ice cream. Now, In Touch claims that this very ice cream cone was a “guilt gift” from Katie because she feels so bad for her daughter’s friendless plight, and some Miami insiders have expressed their belief that poor Suri is a truly miserable child.

Suri’s Lonely Summer!

As her family moves to Miami while her dad, Tom Cruise, shoots a movie, little Suri trudges through her days — with no friends.

Building sand castles, eating ice cream and playing by the pool, Suri Cruise should be having the summer of her life. But what good is all the fun in the sun when Suri, 5, has no one to play with?

While living in Miami with mom Katie Holmes — as dad Tom Cruise films Rock of Ages there — Suri has been stuck entertaining herself every single day. And despite her parents’ best efforts, it’s obvious she’s unhappy.

“I’ve never seen Suri with any other kids around her,” a Miami local tells In Touch. “She never hanges out with other children her age, ever.” While learning to swim at the posh Continuum condominium complex pool on June 18, Suri was surrounded by stone-faced bodyguards instead of giggling pals.

The next day, she and her parents took a daylong boat trip and she was so exhausted by the grown-up activity that she had to be carried off the ship. “She was completely passed out,” explains an onlooker.

She misses Tom, too.

But besides that outing, Suri hasn’t been able to spend much quality time with her beloved dad, making matters worse. As he throws himself into his role in the musical movie, “Tom is working very long hours,” an insider reveals. “He hardly ever gets breaks, so Suri and Katie have never come to visit the set, as far as anyone knows.”

And though it’s true that Suri is used to the solitary life, one can’t help but wonder if she wishes she had more friends her own age.

“She has the perfect life, but it’s the perfect life for an adult, not a child,” explains a family friend. “She gets everything she wants except the one thing she probably needs — a normal childhood.”

You know what? Under relatively normal circumstances, I’d probably assume that Suri and her mommy are merely best friends; and it isn’t an uncommon circumstance for a very young only child and her mother to develop an extraordinarily close bond, particularly if the child is an “old soul.” However, this is not an ordinary family by any means, and even if it wasn’t a Hollywood family, Scientology virtually guarantees that Suri will never live a normal life. In fact, the CO$ believes that children are merely smaller adults because they really do have old souls. Like, literally, that’s one of the main tenets of the “religion,” and Katie herself has spoken of what “a very strong woman” that she believed Suri to be even before she was two years old. Still, do I think Suri is a “lonely” child? Probably not at this stage of the game when mini-Louboutins and a $100,000 treehouse are there to fill the void. Give Suri a few years, and she might change her mind. Or maybe not.

Ah yes, it seems like just yesterday that Tom Cruise and his bizarre, lumpy stomach were waltzing around (repeatedly, no less) with toy guns and glass-cutting hipples in tow on the set of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, but now we’ve finally received a trailer for the movie. As expected, Cruise performs a lot of running, kicking, and death-defying stunting in this trailer, but it feels a bit odd to watch him doing all of this to the tune of Eminem’s “Won’t Back Down.” Also, I hate to say it (really, I do), but if Cruise were any other existing action star (like, say, Jason Statham), the entire thing wouldn’t seem so ridiculous. The fact of the matter is that, while Cruise had a decent run as super-spy Ethan Hunt in the first three installments of the franchise, his public persona has suffered so much damage that everything that he does nowadays seems like a spoof; and that’s clearly not the vibe that the producers were going for here. Anyway, Jeremy Renner looks great in the trailer, so there’s that, right?

Interestingly enough, Katie Holmes was recently asked for her opinion (as if she’s allowed to form them) on Ghost Protocol, and she describes the movie as “intense.”

MTV News caught up with Cruise’s better half, Katie Holmes, Monday during the press day for Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, [and] we asked if she’s seen any of the film yet.

“I have. I had an advanced screening,” she said with a laugh, adding that it’s a perk of being married to the film’s star.

As for her thoughts about Cruise’s death-defying stunts in the film, particularly those he performed atop Dubai’s Burj Khalifa (the world’s tallest building), Holmes turned the question over to Guillermo del Toro, who produced Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.

“What did you think, Guillermo, about the Burj?” she asked him.

“I love it!” he said, at which point they both agreed that Cruise’s stunts were scarier than their film, which revolves around the demonic activities of a group of terrifying little creatures that seek out and kill humans, particularly children.

“It’s amazing,’ Holmes continued. “The movie is going to be very cool and intense and the best Mission yet.”

The actress also mentioned that she’d be game for a role that required a few crazy stunts herself. “I think it sounds fun,” she said.

Oh, Katie. So many things spring to mind when botwife is permitted to speak; but it suffices to point out that, when MTV asked her a question that did not result in a pre-rehearsed answer, she had to deflect the unanticipated inquiry towards the person (in this case, Guillermo) sitting next to her. A Scientology richochet, if you will. Also, it’s rather amusing that she still desires an action movie career, since her first “meeting” with Tom Cruise reportedly occurred under the guise of an audition for Mission: Impossible 3 but was truly an “audition” for the role of Mrs. Unhinged, Lift-Wearing Midget. How romantic.

Now and because I know you all asked for it, let’s just revisit Tom and his epic moobs on the set of Ghost Protocol last October and December, shall we?

Kate Middleton has always reminded me of a brunette Lauren Conrad. Just in looks, mind you. Stick a blonde wig on the Duchess of Cambridge, and I doubt many of us would be able to tell the difference between Kate and LC. However, shortly after Kate participated in her official engagement interview last fall, people began drawing comparisons to another celebrity woman: Katie Holmes. To be fair to the Duchess of Cambridge, it did seem like Katie Holmes suddenly began styling herself a lot like Middleton. Go back and look at these photos of Katie, just days after Middleton’s big debut. It’s like Holmes styled herself to look like Middleton, minus the “Raccoon McWaity” eyes. Both Katie and Kate talk out of the sides of their mouths too, and both do the little half-smirk as well.

Up until now, Katie Holmes has never mentioned her Middleton Mania. But during the premiere of Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Katie did field some questions about Kate and Pippa, and she perked up considerably:

Tress twins? At Sunday night’s L.A. premiere of her new movie, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Katie Holmes gushed to Us Weekly that she’s a huge fan of Duchess Kate’s sophisticated getups.

“I love both [Kate's and Pippa's] style,” the 32-year-old actress said, “and I think they are incredible. I’m so happy for Kate — I wish them the best!”

Despite the 80-degree temps over the past few days, the brunette beauties both sported silky-smooth blowouts. At Sunday’s premiere, a Contrarian New York-clad Holmes’s straight and shiny strands fell against her bare back.

And cross the pond on Monday afternoon, the 29-year-old Duchess sat alongside husband Prince William, 29, at Wimbledon to watch British player Andy Murray’s match. The royal wore a white tiered Temperley London Moriah dress and nude pumps.

While Homes is regularly seen with undone, free-flowing tresses, it’s no secret that Kate is rarely seen with her hair in anything but a picture-perfect blowout. So to ensure that her strands will be in her signature style at all stops on the couple’s North American trip next week, Kate is bringing her hairstylist, James Pryce of the Richard Ward Salon, along for the jaunt.

Here’s what amuses me: remember how Tom Cruise kept trying to make “KATE” Holmes happen? Every time he references Katie, he called her “KATE”. And now KATE Middleton is a duchess and she wants to be called CATHERINE. Like, the palace has officially declared that her name is CATHERINE, and that’s the only way she’s ever addressed in formal occasions. And now Katie is all “I’m so happy for KATE”. It’s just funny to me.

So, who has better hair, Kate or Katie? I give Kate (the Duchess) more points because I don’t think she’s ever taken a flat-iron to her locks. She likes her hair fluffy and full of body, which is the style I prefer. Katie sometimes does fluffy, but she also does flat-ironed, which I don’t care for at all. Plus, Kate gets even more bonus points for not being a robot, or having drugged-out zombie eyes – but I’ll take some points away for the raccoon eyeliner.

Here are some new photos of last night’s LA Film Festival premiere of Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, which stars Katie Holmes. I remember when Katie filmed this movie in Australia, back in 2009. I thought the premise of the film – spooky horror, with kids – was interesting, and I’ve been wondering what has been taking so long for this film to be released. And now the film got its premiere… on a Sunday, in the middle of the summer. This does not bode well. Katie was there, of course, but her husband was not! Weird? Tom Cruise came to the premiere of Super 8 to support his friends Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams. Why not come to support his wife? Hm…

Anyway, the Kate-bot wore this Contrarian dress – which I don’t like. From the waist up, it’s interesting, and it might even be flattering on Katie if she straightened her back, threw back her shoulders and really worked it. But with the poofy skirt, it just looks like a sad, girlish, dated party dress that Katie cut up herself. Meh. I’m not liking her hair, either. Katie has been doing good hair lately, it’s had a lot of body, and she’s been wearing it all fluffed up, which is a really great style for her. This flat-ironed look, with the part down the middle and her hair just lankly laying by her zombie-face… it’s not a good look.

Also: the little girl in the photo is Katie’s costar, not Suri. I was all “Damn, SURI!” But it’s not.

Here is the first official image of Tom Cruise in Rock of Ages. I’m not even going to try to explain what’s happening here, because honestly, it’s better if you don’t know. I would like to point out a few things here. First: Tom had it written into his contract that his rock star wears lifts, apparently. I love the way the spotlight is actually highlighting the fact that Tom is in high heels, and I can even see where the lift is built into the shoes:

Second interesting thing: whatever is happening on Tom’s torso. As we’ve seen in photos before (last year), Tom likely had some kind of lipo or something, because his stomach is looking kind of wonky. I’m also perturbed at seeing Tom’s hint of “happy trail” (which we should call “the L. Ron trail”). Those hairs above his pelvis are “glistening” to my eyes. And it’s disturbing.

Next story, vaguely related to Tom Cruise: Katie Holmes and Suri are in Miami right now (that‘s where Rock of Ages is filming), and the paparazzi got shots of them playing in the ocean. This is notable because it’s been forever and a day since we’ve seen Katie in a bikini. It’s also notable because this was one of the rare times when Suri was overdressed. She’s at the beach, and instead of putting her in a little swimsuit, Suri played in the ocean in a dress. I don’t get it either. Katie’s figure is pretty nice though. She’s much more toned than I would have thought.

As Bedhead discussed yesterday, Katie Holmes was due to receive the “Face of the Future” Award at last night’s Women In Film Lucy + Crystal Awards. Katie was the headliner of the event, surprisingly, and I won’t even get into how big of a joke it was to honor the Kate-bot. I’ve been trying to find out who designed this, and all I’ve got is Max Mara, and that’s a guess. The even was sponsored by Max Mara, so it would make sense for Katie to wear a dress by the sponsor. As for how she looks in this black-and-white ensemble… pretty, I think. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but she looks very healthy and pretty and “together”. For a second I even thought her boobs were bigger, but it’s just an optical illusion with the bustier thing.

Here’s little Elle Fanning in a really pretty Marc Jacobs. Marc probably meant this for an adult woman, but I think it’s absolutely perfect for a 13-year-old girl. It looks like an old-school “party dress” that young women would wear to formal dances. She’s such a pretty little thing too.

And here’s Annette Bening, who brought her husband as her date. They look happy and tight – good for them!

And lastly, we have Rose McGowan’s jacked face. This face caused some consternation between CB and I this morning. At some point, we can no longer blame Rose’s car accident on what we see before of. At some point, we just have to say “This is how she WANTS to look.” Yikes.
