After a whopping 31 hours of labor, Kelis finally gave birth to her first son on Tuesday night. The baby, named Knight Jones, weighed 7.8 lbs. Unfortunately a lot of drama has been going on between Kelis and the baby’s father, her soon-to-be ex-husband, rapper Nas. They split when she was seven months pregnant, and their divorce proceedings have been incredibly acrimonious. They still haven’t agreed on child support for the baby and have had a lot of arguments over who’s contributed what so far – and it sounds like Nas hasn’t done much. He was denied entrance to the hospital during Kelis’ first night of labor. Why? Not because she wouldn’t let him in – but because he was so wasted when he showed up.

TMZ has learned Kelis has finally given birth to her son with estranged hubby Nas — and this time, he was allowed into the hospital to see ‘em.

After nearly three days of labor, Kelis gave birth to son Knight Jones last night — and while Nas was not in the delivery room, he was outside and he did get to see his baby.

As we first reported, Nas had tried to visit Kelis in the hospital while she was in labor the night before — but was turned away because he was too wasted.

TMZ mentions “nearly three days of labor,” but according to Us Weekly Kelis went into labor at 2 a.m. Monday and gave birth at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. According to TMZ, Nas was performing that first night and told the audience he was drunk off champagne.

With his pregnant estranged wife in labor, rapper Nas finally tried to get by Kelis’ side at the hospital last night — problem is, the dude was way too friggin’ drunk.

After a performance in NY last night — where he told fans he was hammered off champagne — Nas tried to roll by Kelis’ hospital room around 1 AM this morning. But we’re told Nas was turned away because he was too wasted.

Kelis, the singer behind that “Milkshake” song, is still in the hospital — 24 hours into her labor!! We’re told she still has not given birth to their son, Knight.

But there’s still a major issue at hand — sources close to the situation tell TMZ the bill for Kelis’ hospital stay has not yet been paid — and because the soon-to-be-exes are still fighting over child support and baby expenses, it’s unclear if Nas will fork over the cash for the cost of the baby.

What a charming, considerate, and responsible way to plan on meeting his new baby for the first time: drunk. I’m sure this bodes well for what kind of father Nas is going to be. When your main priority is getting sloshed instead of being there for your kid… let’s just say my hopes aren’t high. Luckily for Nas – though not for Kelis – she didn’t give birth that night, and he was let into the hospital (though not the delivery room) when the baby was born. So presumably he wasn’t drunk.

Kelis’ rep released the traditional “‘The beautiful baby boy and his mother are doing wonderful’” statement. Kelis and Nas have both filed for joint custody of the baby. Congrats to Kelis, and several cups of strong coffee to Nas.

Singer Kelis, 29, is due to give birth later this month to her first child with estranged husband Nas. Kelis has some hit singles under her belt, including “Milkshake,” and seems like she should be ok financially, but she claims through a lawyer that she’s broke and depends on whatever Nas gives her. Nas, 35, is a successful rapper and is swimming in dough but allegedly refuses to pay Kelis, who filed for divorce in April, a dime. He filed a motion with the court in May to deny Kelis spousal support. Many of you pointed out in the comments that he didn’t specifically object to child support, but doesn’t feel he should pay spousal support.

Now Kelis is ramping up the court battle ahead of the birth of their child. She is asking for spousal support, child support, birthing expenses, money for a nurse, and $20k in baby goods. I was with her until she threw in the $20k for a stroller and baby accessories. Can’t she have a baby shower and get some of that stuff as gifts? She doesn’t need designer stuff for a little baby. Kelis goes on to say that she’s used to living an expensive lifestyle and should be able to continue to squander money once her child is born:

Kelis claims estranged hubby Nas has left her high and dry … not offering her a penny in the wake of her impending birth … and she says she’s broke — “I have run out of money.”

Kelis filed legal papers claiming Nas isn’t paying her support, pre-natal expenses — nothing, even though she claims he is filthy rich.

Kelis is asking the judge to order Nas to pay spousal support, child support, all pregnancy-related expenses, and one-half of all medical expenses after the child is born. She also wants $3,500 for the baby nurse after the child’s birth, and $20,000 for strollers, cribs and other baby supplies.

Kelis says, “My survival is based on [Nas'] will at this time. If he does not want to pay for an expense, it does not get paid.” The couple was married in 2003. The baby is due this month.

Kelis says she’s entitled to maintain the lifestyle to which she became accustomed during their marriage — they have five homes, fly first class, go to fancy restaurants, and on and on. Most interesting — “There were many expensive pieces [of jewelry] such as a princess-cut diamond tennis bracelet that was recently appraised for $190,000. My engagement ring is an approximately nine-carat cushion-cut diamond solitaire. I have numerous watches…such as Cartier, Rolex, Frank Muller and Chopard.”

Her lawyer, disso-queen Laura Wasser, says in a separate declaration she’s asked Nas to ante up some $$$ for Kelis and the unborn baby but he hasn’t responded.

So Kelis admits in her court documents that she has all that jewelry, but still says she’s broke. It doesn’t seem to occur to her to sell her diamonds and high end watches to make ends meet until her ex coughs up some support. She has a single bracelet that’s worth $190,000. Most people don’t see that type of money in years. Nas should absolutely support his child and help ensure that his baby is cared for, but to ask for $20,000 worth of baby goods and to say she’s entitled to it is over the top. No wonder Kelis is broke if she spends money like that.

Nas is pulling a Sean Penn - he has requested from the judge overseeing his and Kelis’ divorce proceedings to deny his pregnant, now-estranged wife (of four years) Kelis any kind of financial support. That’s pretty cold. When Kelis filed for divorce at the end of April, there was a few questions as to just how far along she was in her pregnancy. Some outlets reported seven months along, some had her at eight months. TMZ is reporting that Kelis is “weeks from giving birth” and thus, unable to work to support herself financially. To make matter worse, the baby hasn’t even been born and Kelis and Nas are already fighting over custody:

Kelis filed for divorce April 30. She’s weeks from giving birth and unable to work, but no matter to Nas — he’s filed his response to the divorce, asking the judge to deny her the spousal support she’s seeking. For bad measure, he also wants her to pay her own lawyer’s fees.

Nas and Kelis both want joint custody of their unborn child.

Kelis cites “irreconcilable differences” for the divorce, but we’re told she believes he was cheating on her and that’s what buzz-killed the marriage.

I just did some basic research on the whole Nas-Kelis-cheating angle, and it really seems like the gossip is a mixed bag. Last year, deejay/talk-radio hostess Wendy Williams claimed she had a tape of Kelis naked with some poser, and there seems to have been rumors about Nas’s zipper problems for the entirity of his four-year marriage. Did Kelis really leave Nas because of his cheating heart? If he cheated, does he owe her? Doesn’t he owe her at least some financial support considering she’s pregnant? Or are there bigger conspiracies at work?

Kelis’ representative has confirmed that she and Nas are getting a divorce after almost six years of marriage and eight years of being together. What makes it even worse is that Kelis is seven months pregnant with the couple’s first child together. Only a few months ago, Nas was telling MTV that he was excited for the baby and might ask fans for help in naming the kid, who they know will be a son.

One of hip hop’s most talked about married couples have split. VIBE has confirmed that Nas and Kelis are headed for a divorce. “I can confirm that she has filed for divorce,” a spokesperson for Kelis told VIBE. “We request the media to respect her privacy during this very difficult time.” At around 3:45pm PST, high-powered attorney Laura Wasser (who has also represented Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie, and Stevie Wonder) filed a divorce petition today on behalf of Kelis, citing irreconcilable differences. The bombshell comes amid recent reports that the acclaimed rhymer and influential R&B vixen were expecting their first child together—a son. Kelis is currently seven months pregnant.

It was only last February when Nas spoke excitedly to MTV about the prospect of having a baby with Kelis. “Yeah, man, I find out what it’s gonna be next week, so I’m happy,” said the multiplatinum rapper, who also has a 15-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

Nas and Kelis first met in 2002 at a MTV Video Music Awards afterparty thrown by hip hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. “I wasn’t going to go, but I’m glad I did,” Nas told VIBE in June 2003. “Then at the afterparty, I met my girl.” Kelis remembered the meeting with her future husband vividly: “Everyone moves out of the way, and Nas stands up, and I put my hand out, and I’m like, Hey, I’m Kelis. And he goes, ‘Who?’… So I’m crawling into a f’ing hole, and he’s like, ‘Wait-huh? What’s your name? And I’m like, Kelis, and he’s like, ‘Oh, well that’s great, because I’ve been waiting to make you my wife all these years.’” When Nas told her of his bold marital plans, she replied in typical Kelis form. “That’s great, because that’s all I wanna be.”

Of course they filed due to “irreconcilable differences,” but the big question is whether it has anything to do with this report of a sex tape (or rather, post-sex tape) featuring Kelis. She reportedly hooked up with up-and-comer rapper Infared, who then filmed her sleeping in his bed. On the video, he is heard saying to Nas, “Handle your mother f**king business. I got your b**ch here, she (sic) getting naked.” Infared later confirmed an “encounter,” but nothing was ever confirmed regarding timing. However, it sounds like it occurred while Kelis and Nas were married.

There probably will never be any confirmation whether or not cheating had to do with the divorce, but it takes a lot for a couple to break up while the woman is pregnant – especially so far into her pregnancy. Hopefully they’ll be able to handle this so that it doesn’t affect the care of the child.

Remember how everyone was getting those terrible helmet bangs about a year and a half ago and how Janet Jackson popularized it? My hairdresser had a big poster up from Jose Eber featuring that style, and when I asked him about it he just shook his head and said he hoped it would pass.

The severe bangs were flipped to the side until they slowly grew out to make way for more classic hair trends, but now they’re back again in all their forehead-blocking glory. I blame Katie Holmes for bringing back this questionable style. She manages to pull off a severe interpretation of her daughter’s bowl cut, but only because she has either naturally thin straight hair or enough volume has been taken out of her hair to make it flat and sleek. In my opinion this style just doesn’t work with thicker hair and looks silly.

Here are some celebrities who work it, and others who just should flip it to the side and wait for the trend to pass. Rather than group them according to my opinion, I’ll just post the photos and let you discuss. I don’t think this style works with hair that isn’t straight and thin, but you may disagree.

It’s just hair. It will grow out eventually and can be styled to compensate, but unlike a bad outfit you can’t just switch it for something else the next day without some effort.
