Kenley Collins gets a fine for cat attack
Project Runway Finalists Fashion Show - Backstage - Spring 09 MBFW

The initial report indicated that Project Runway alum Kenley Collins threw her cat at fiance Zak Penley. The cat was only one of many objects thrown at Zak – the projectiles included apples, a laptop and water. Kenley later said that yes, she threw those other things at her fiance in the course of an argument, but she never threw her cat. Instead, she claimed to have “gently” tossed the cat in the vicinity of her fiance.

The cat’s day in court never came, but Kenley’s did. Kenley plead guilty to charges of disorderly conduct in a Brooklyn court on Monday. The felony charges of second-degree assault (with a deadly cat) were dropped. Kenley paid a $120 fine and will have to adhere to a two-year protection order keeping her from her now former fiance.

The cat fight’s over!

Former Project Runway season 5 finalist Kenley Collins pleaded guilty in a Brooklyn court Tuesday to a count of disorderly conduct, E! Online reports.

Arrested March 17 for assault after allegedly throwing her pet cat at her sleeping ex-fiancé, Zak Penley, Collins, 26, was given a $120 fine and a two-year protection order prohibiting her from contacting her ex. According to the district attorney, the reality star’s sentence was reduced because Penley never sought treatment.

In a March 26 court appearance, Collins denied using her pet as a weapon, saying instead that she put it on the bed “gently.” Initially, she faced a second-degree felony assault charge.

Charges are reduced all of the time, so I doubt the district attorney got involved and decided to prosecute on behalf of the cat. I said it at the time, but I really doubt Kenley actually threw that cat. Cats are not objects that can be thrown with any kind of ease – not that I’ve ever tried. But I have tried to move a cat who didn’t want to move, and the cat drew blood. The moral of the story: you too can chuck apples and laptops at your fiance, but never throw a cat.

Kenley Collins now claims she ‘gently tossed’ cat at fiance
McDonalds McCafe at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2009

Last week, we reported on Project Runway alum Kenley Collins’ assault on her fiance with a cat. The cat was allegedly just one of the things Kenley threw at her fiance, but it was certainly the most disturbing thing for all of us feline-lovers out there.

No fear though, because now Kenley has come out to defend herself. Perhaps something Clinton-esque? “I did not have sexual relations with that cat.” Or perhaps the non-denial denial? “I don’t have any problems with cats, I’m sorry if you think I do.” But Kenley claims her fiance totally exaggerated the whole incident. In her words, “The only reason why a cat was involved in this story [is] because when I first approached Zak, I was holding my cat and it was gently tossed onto my bed.” Ah, “gently tossed”. That old gem.

Project Runway season 5 finalist Kenley Collins denies she used her cat as a weapon during a fight with her ex-fiance.

The aspiring designer was in a Brooklyn, NY, court Tuesday to answer charges that she attacked Zak Penley with a laptop, apples and a feline as he slept in their bed on March 17.

During the session, she was told that the assault charge against her would be reduced to a misdemeanor.

“The only reason why a cat was involved in this story because when I first approached Zak, I was holding my cat and it was gently tossed onto my bed,” she said outside court. “There was no cat hurt or thrown. The cat was not thrown at Zak. It was tossed onto the bed. There was an argument. No violence was used. Nothing was thrown.”

Kenley, who was deemed difficult during her time on the Bravo series, said that Zak, with whom she has ended her engagement, exaggerated the story to police.
She’s due back in court April 14.

Probably a little from both stories. I don’t buy the “gently tossed” version, but do you know how hard it is to throw a cat? Not that I’ve ever tried. But they will put up a hell of a fight, and there’s no mention of Kenley being really scratched up or anything.

Sidenote: I once had a roommate who threw a punch at a cat, but the cat dodged her fist admirably and a few weeks later, the cat pissed on my roommate’s shoes. I’m just saying, cats remember who did them wrong. Or attempted to.

Project Runway alum Kenley Collins arrested for assault…with a cat

Insert your best “using her pussy as a weapon” joke here. Kenley Collins, a former Project Runway contestant who made it to Fashion Week as a finalist, has been picked up by Brooklyn cops for assault. The aspiring designer threw a cat at fiance Zak Penley’s face, along with a laptop and three apples. He called 911 and she was taken into custody.

“Project Runway” finalist Kenley Collins was arrested today after assaulting her fiance with their cat, authorities said today.

After throwing the feline, a laptop computer, and three apples at Zak Penley, Collins, 26, was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon (of meow destruction).

“It was a miscommunication,” Collins told The Post after getting released without bail from Brooklyn Supreme Court yesterday morning.

“Fights happen, And that’s that. There is no case.”

According to law enforcement sources, an enraged Collins woke Penley up just after 7 a.m. by hurling their cat in his face. Then she threw her laptop, and as he fell crawled on the floor, slammed a door on his head.

She threw three apples, and doused him with water, before he was able to dial 911.

“You’re lucky, it could have been worse,” Collins told Penley after the blow, according to sources.

Collins and Penley, an artist and musician who penned a song called “CAT?” for her Project Runway finale, were to be married in October.

Neighbors said the couple had been fighting for weeks.

“Lately there has been a lot of yelling,” neighbor Ken Edge, 31, said. “I can hear Kenley much louder than I can hear Zak. When she speaks, she yells. Since she moved in around September there have been a lot of noise problems.”

[From The New York Post]

Why is it that people who hit and hurt other people always explain it as a “miscommunication?” How can there be any miscommunication if you are no longer communicating, but using fists, weapons or, in this case, cats to get your point across? It is a funny image- some wacko lobbing a feline at someone- but assault is assault. Oh, and a word of advice to Kenley- saying things like “It could have been worse?” Bad idea. In some places that could be considered criminal threatening. What an idiot. I remember Kenley very well from her days on Project Runway. She was easily one of the most obnoxious, self-absorbed contestants they’ve ever had on the show. It doesn’t surprise me at all to see her in some kind of altercation. But I wouldn’t have guessed it would involve an animal.
